Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.

Nestled in the heart of downtown Albany, Hyatt Place Albany stands out for its excellent location, offering guests easy access to nearby attractions. The rooms receive compliments for their cleanliness and spaciousness, yet there are mentions of soundproofing challenges. The staff's friendly and professional demeanor is frequently praised, although service can occasionally falter.
While the modern amenities and overall cleanliness are lauded, the parking situation is a sore point for many. Despite this, the hotel's inviting atmosphere and modern charm continue to draw in guests.

Detailed Reviews
Staff is very friendly, answer all questions and provide assistance with baggage when needed. The gym has great equipment and a working water fountain (which is uncommon at many hotels). The entrance to get to the hotel is very secluded and key card access only, so you also don’t have to worry about just anyone entering the floors where the guests will be sleeping. Front desk staff is very accommodating and pleasant to speak with. Housekeeping is also very friendly and accommodating, you can tell those who work there, enjoy what they do.

I visit Albany frequently due to work n always choose to stay here after trying out almost all the hotels in the city and having some major issues with cleanliness n parking at the other hotels, hyatt rooms look new and has been consistently clean. Also parking is better than some of the other hotels in the area, the staff is very friendly n always helpful with reservations or any changes required, special thanks to Anjali for being always helpful. The breakfast buffet has variety of choices to pick from and consistently gud. They have very gud rewards program too for the members. This should be your first choice if you visiting Albany ,Highly recommend this place.

This was one of the best experiences I had with a hotel. Great and fast check in. I felt safe knowing you can’t enter the room floors without a room key. I loved how quiet it was and how there is a brewery right next door.

The bed was comfortable. The thermostat in the room makes a ticking noise whenever the furnace kicks on and off like a morse code telegram is being sent. The shower door opened itself after a few seconds without being held shut with a washcloth, and there is no microwave in the room, whoever you are welcome to use the one in the lobby near the bar. For my week long stay, this was a serious inconvenience. I kindly asked twice (once each of two different front desk staff) for a loaner microwave for my room and was kindly denied both requests. The dorm style fridge is that of one without a freezer, it is tiny. I tend to being my own food and it was quite packed for the weeks stay.
The good... The bed was comfortable, and the room felt cozy. There was a train that passed by at some point but it only made a gentle rumble and was not startling nor disruptive. The gym was quaint and useful and the lobby has a filtered water bottle filling station. The breakfast provided was cooked with excellence and the staff kept the area very clean. The entire breakfast experience felt professional and respectable.
Parking is done in a ParkAlbany garage close by, but it feels slightly inconvenient. The Hotels location is a close (15 minutes) walk to the SUNY Admin Castle down the hill from the Capital building and the Albany government Mall.

Thank you for sharing your feedback! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the breakfast, the comfort of the beds, and the friendliness of our staff. I apologize for the issues you encountered with the shower door and the noise from the furnace. We also appreciate your suggestion regarding a larger fridge/freezer, and microwave. For future stays, I’d like to let you know that we offer suites at our property. These rooms are more spacious and feature a separate living area and kitchen, complete with a full-size fridge, freezer, and microwave—perfect for longer stays. We hope this will better suit your needs next time. Thank you again for your valuable feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back and ensuring an even more enjoyable stay.

After booking this hotel months in advance (June) the hotel canceled our reservation without any reason a few weeks before our trip leaving us without a place to stay despite planning well in advance.
They discovered they could charge more for the room (as they overbooked?) since we booked our room for an event at MVP Arena. We booked the room before the event was officially announced.
Multiple attempts through the booking agent and ourselves were met with no response. The property (manager?) inquired for information after our first communication and claimed they would follow up and we received nothing further. No assistance in any way.
This hotel will cancel reservations. This hotel cannot be trusted for a trip you are planning in advance and will leave you without a place to stay.

Room was very clean however the walls are not soundproof and we could hear whole conversations from the room sharing our wall both nights. Bed was next to the window which had cold air coming off of it. The heating system is very loud and never got above 68 even though it was set for 70. The first morning we tried the complimentary breakfast and all the hot foods ( eggs, sausage) were cold so the second morning we ate at The Iron Gate restaurant down the road which had an excellent breakfast. The staff was friendly however the second morning we went downstairs around 6:15 to have a coffee and were planning on sitting in front of the fireplace but the staff were sitting there. They said good morning but never got up so guests could sit there. Be prepared to pay for parking when staying here. It's $8 dollars if you park under the overpass. If you want your car closer, it's $20. The entrance is on the backside from the main road and it is dimly lit. Attached photo of parking and hotel entrance area.

When I checked into this hotel, they put an additional $50 deposit on my credit card for "incidentals". When I checked out, I was told it would be refunded within 3 business days. They never returned my money. I contested the charge with my credit card company, and they disputed the refund even though I didn't use anything that would be considered an incidental. NEVER stay at this hotel.

I stayed in quite a few Hyatt Places across the country so know what to expect. First time here, however first impressions was underwhelming. No sign of where the hotel lobby is when you walk into the door of the building. Luckily a guest came in and solved my puzzle. The front desk guy said this hotel opened last fall, and management will put up a sign soon. Seriously I doubt if management has ever set foot here. They would have noticed the issue immediately upon arrival.
Room is otherwise clean except for a big cluster of hairs from previous guests on the floor. The shower sliding door kept sliding open when in the shower.
The brightest STAR is Ed at the front desk. The most courteous receptionist, and he held the elevator door for me when seeing my hands were full. Adding a star to my review because of Ed!

At check in I was alerted about a $100 pet fee, which wasn’t clearly labeled on the site I’d booked through. The staff proceeded to tell me there was nothing any of them could do. The cost of the room went up by more than 50% as a result of this deceptive practice. Will never stay there again despite it being an excellent location.

I can't say enough good things about this hotel. My room, and the hotel in general, was spotless and modern. The staff was friendly and attentive, breakfast was decent and more than just cereal and bagels. We had a cocktail and snacks at the bar, which was a nice surprise, and the bartender was fun and outgoing. There is a beautiful outdoor patio connected. The rates were significantly less than the other hotels in the area. My only complaint would be the parking situation. There is no free parking, which is less than ideal, but even with paying for parking, it was cheaper than the other hotels, some by $100/night! I have another stay booked next week for another event, and this will be my go to hotel in Albany from now on.
