When seeking a place to unwind for a week in Bali, we didn't want a location that had too many rooms, nor did we want a spot too small to offer reasonable amenities. Ulu Segara was the perfect-size place, offering restaurant and spa amenities, attentive service and yet you felt a certain level of quietness to truly relax and unwind. The entire staff was incredibly friendly, pleasant and attentive to our needs. The restaurant did an exceptional job each day with breakfast from the buffet to the eggs and coffee made to order. Evening meals were fine, although I recommend mixing it up by exploring area restaurants during your stay, as well.

3 weeks at Ulu Segara what just what we needed & wanted. Having been to Bali many times we wanted somewhere off the beaten track, small number of suites & villas, stunning pool & awesome food & cocktails. This package delivered & more. The staff were so friendly & welcoming & after 3 weeks we were sad to leave. The buffet breakfast was great - with made to order coffee &tea plus eggs cooked fresh & delivered to your table. The mixed omelettes were delicious & I asked for poached eggs or French toast / maple syrup on some days. We ate late (7-10 breakfast) & used our LE vouchers for dinner - cocktails & then a two course dinner - either entree & main or main & dessert. The creme brulee was delicious. Margaritas were our cocktails of choice but quite a few more to choose from. Our suite was cleaned to a high standard each day & at the same time. Pool was fabulous & the women at Swari Spa & Massage gave fabulous treatments - included in our package. Highly recommended.

Interesting reading the negative reviews as our experience is the exact opposite. The location is quiet and relaxing and the position is stunning looking out over the Indian Ocean with a continual sea breeze and the beautiful uniterrupted morning sunrise. The Suite is magnificent at 100sqmts and beautifully appointed. The staff are so friendly and are typical beautiful Balinese. We just grab a cab to go whenever we want and they aren’t expensive and minimal waiting time. The transfer from the airport is just under 30 minutes from the airport via the new bay expressway. Our last visit was 30 years ago and Kuta and Legian etc is a constant traffic jam and hence why it is fantastic out here at the Ulu Segara at Nusa Dua. We are more than impressed with this place and booked it on Luxury Escapes. There is no doubt we will consider coming back and all i would like to say to the wonderful staff is thank you very much for your warm hospitality as you made us feel very welcomed at all times👍

We booked the resort via Luxury Escape and were fairly delighted by our experience. While the resort is clearly starting to show it's wear and tear around the edges, my partner and I had a most enjoyable experience. We had wanted to book a villa but ended up with one of the 40 suites in the main building as had taken too long to decide.
Pros
1) All rooms were suites and sported floor-to-ceiling windows along the length of the wall facing the ocean. This allowed for the view of sunrise or even in general the Indian Ocean from within the room if so desired. My partner and I spent 2 mornings on the balcony just watching the sun slowly creep up the horizon and break through the clouds
2) Housekeeping, restaurant, pool, and main lobby staff with friendly and helpful, makijng recommendations to the food and drinks. Though it might have something to do with the fact that my partner also speaks Indonesian.
3) My package came with daily top up of non alcoholic drinks in the mini bar, and housekeeping was alert enough to notice that we had consumed both the coke and sprite in the fridge on the first evening and not only replenished them as per package, but also provided 2 of each so that both of us could get one each. This small attention to detail was a major plus for me as in many places that provide a free mini bar, if there was only 1 can of coke in the fridge, then they'd only replace one can of coke and if you wanted an extra you pay.
Cons
1) The main road leading to the resort was thankfully being developed when I visited, though clearly, this was more of a result of the G20 being held nearby more than anything else. Being literally at the end of the road it was not within walking distance of anything. Whether that be a warung, convenience store, shopping area or attractions.
2) Having accidentally booked a stay here during the G20, it meant that we were unable to leave the resort between 7 am and 10 pm to facilitate the movement of officials between their hotels and the meeting venues, while it was not a major inconvenience when we were having a 'pool day' it was a major headache on the day of our departure. Our flight was at 1 pm, however, due to the road closures we had check out and leave the resort by 6 am.
3) Beware the monkeys. Thankfully we only saw them once during our stay, The monkeys scaled the cliff sides and wandered along the resort's sea facing wall, And though it took a while for the staff to notice this and do something about it they eventually chased the monkeys away.

After staying at many hotels over the last 11 visits to Bali (all 4 and 5 star) at various locations on the island this is the number 1 for us. The suite- outstanding large and clean with all amenities. Bathroom with all the frills ,kitchenette with large refrigerator/freezer and complimentary soft drinks/bottled water replaced every day. Sound system /TV and comfortable lounge. King size comfortable beds. Great breakfast and great coffee to start the day. Swimming pool large and deep. Best value for your money. The staff- first class with nothing too much trouble and smiles from ear to ear. We’ll be back for sure. Give this hotel a go. You won’t be disappointed.

We could finally travel again internationally and we took advantage of our Luxury Escape credit that we couldn’t use when the pandemic started. Bali is quiet at the moment and gradually getting visitors again. What a great location, the bottom end of Nusa Dua with an amazing view of the ocean. 5 days of much needed R&R. The rooms are huge, in need of a little TLC but at a 100sq m you couldn’t ask for more. The breakfast choice was more than ample, the menu was rotated everyday, the service was impeccable and a great location overlooking the pool and ocean. Lunch or dinner and afternoon tea, plus a 60 min massage was included in the price. There’s not much within easy walking distance, but be sure to take the free shuttle down to Geger Beach and visit Made’s Warung, great prices and great seafood and cheap massage on the beach.

Stayed here or rather put here at end of a cruise for 5 nights. This is a totally genuine review. Firstly the pros:- The bedrooms are huge with wonderful sea views. The staff are excellent and the food is good. It is reasonably clean. The cons (or the major ones).:- There are 46 units but only 28 sun beds and these are grabbed by the selfish very, very early risers on a daily basis. The property is well out of town.We needed a taxi to do anything as the shuttle bus serves 3 hotels and this is the furthest.Naturally, it is very often full and with the few departure times you cannot gamble on a space. The property is being developed all along one side .Cement mixers have been a frequent extra guest in the reception area. There are no tables and chairs around the pool deck. There are a few on a lower area but only when the “ beach bar” is open”. There is access to the beach when the tide is out but you can’t swim as there is a large reef. There is a restaurant which is pleasant but certainly not “ luxury”, more like a cafeteria. No entertainment whatsoever. In my opinion this a vote to stay in for 24 hours post cruise and pre departure. If you are staying for more that 24 hours in Nusa Dua , do your research and find a better hotel.

A wonderful peaceful getaway slightly out of town but with outstanding ocean views, and very friendly and helpful staff. Amazing colorful paragliders pass overhead while plentiful and varied breakfasts are available as you look across an enormous infinity pool. The hotel has easy access via lifts and buggies to hotel rooms and facilities. Beach access is challenging depending on the tides leaving the area closed to guests sometimes, however, it is a quick reasonably priced trip by taxi to any other beautiful beach or area of interest. A free shuttle bus also regularly transports guests to town and back. The naughty monkeys are little sneaks to keep an eye on but not get too close. They tried to take a few things, including knitting one day but all turned out well with the help of staff. They distracted the monkeys and my balls of wool did not end up over the balcony in the pool below. We found it tranquil, with warm sunny days and not too humid in July.

It's a rough old road to Ulu Segara. With roadworks in full swing for the upcoming G20 in Nusa Dua, The main road past Melia, Hilton, Mercure etc is a dogs breakfast. Ulu Segara is at the very end of that road :(
The hotel has quite a few self contained villa, but we stayed in the main hotel which is carved into the limestone rock from top to bottom. About 7-8 storeys. We stayed on the ground Floor (GF) not to be confused with the ground floor (G) lol
Can't say a word wrong about the staff!!! They were great. Except maybe at the pool where the did sort of stay ensconced up one end.
The room was spacious to be sure. Marble floors throughout which could be like walking on ice if wet esp in the bathroom. The fridge & freezer turned off if you left the room which meant no way could you freeze ice. We only could get 1 card so leaving one card in when out wasn't an option :(
We had Luxury escapes deal which included b/fast and lunch or dinner (2 meals a day) This was good as there's not much around in the area except maybe the Nusa Dua Bar & Grill run by an American.
Getting back to the restaurant, They could do with varying the menu a bit, both food and drinks. Waffles were labeled pancakes and visa versa. They alternated each day as did the baked beans/red beans. The easy peel butters and conserves were sealed with superglue! It would have been nice for them to open the bifolds onto the pool, but the stayed firmly shut the whole time. The pool was nice, just nice. A bit more lighting around the pool on the trees would have added to the atmosphere. The "Beach Bar" (about half way down to the beach) was not worth the effort. Maybe if the place was busier, ?
The hotel put on free shuttles to the Bali Collection where only 10% of the shops were open, which is sad.

Room and staff: A location with a beautiful ocean view. Rooms are spacious and clean. We were not disturbed by anything throughout our stay at this hotel. The territory is small, but quite well arranged so that you have your relaxation space.
Disadvantages: You can enjoy the sun until 3:30 PM, after that it disappears behind the hotel and you can no longer enjoy. Access to the beach can only be in the afternoon, when the water recedes, but you cannot swim in the ocean.
Food: Small diversity for breakfast, but enough.
Disadvantages: I do not recommend eating at the restaurant, there is no diversity and the food is not the tastiest I have tried.
Other: Amazing staff - wonderful people who do their best to make you feel good. Special appreciation for Ima from the restaurant and Rosita from the reception.
Do not go to the SPA in the hotel - unprofessional staff and they are not kind, totally disappointed.
There is nothing outside the hotel, you can't go out by foot because everything is far, but a taxi to the city is quite cheap and accessible.

There is a reef in front of hotel - however snorkeling is pretty under whelming! Must wait for quite a low tide, then stay away from the local fishermen. Gear is available from hotel, however the gear/time must be made at reception.
