Stayed with my husband, two teenaged daughters and friends and had a blast! Wanted to come back a year later but it’s closed for renovations 😞
Where is Ketut working now (see photos to know which Ketut is the GOAT)? This guy in the photos made our 5-night stay at the Meliá the absolute best. Nothing was too much trouble for him.
We were all on the all-inclusive deal, which was worth every cent! We started each day with an incredible buffet breakfast, followed by water aerobics in the pool. Then we’d have a late satay lunch on the deck overlooking the volcano (maybe even have a bike ride). Dinner at the Japanese Restaurant onsite was incredible - it was the best food I’ve ever eaten.
On the last night of our stay one of my daughter had an accident which landed her in hospital, and extended our stay by another five days. Although that was very traumatic and unexpected, the Meliá were fabulous throughout it all.
***We actually stayed in December 2023 but it took me a year to write this review.

We stayed at Melia in June for 12 nights with the AI option. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms are ok, quite old but well maintained. There are choices of restaurants in the hotel but only Sakura and Sorrento are excellent in maintaining the high standard of services and food. The restaurant on the beach front has a few hit and miss with inconsistent standard of drinks and food. You may have a delicious dish or drink one day but the next time when you ordered it, there was something missing in the dish or drink. It seemed to be depending who made it in the kitchen or bar. Love the coffee in the little cafe next to bike rental. The food in the asian restaurant was bland. Room service was wonderful and the food was good. The housekeeping needs to improve on dusting the TV cabinet top. During our 12 nights stay, the cabinet top was gathering dust and was not cleaned.

One thing I would suggest to Melia management is that they advised the guests upon checking in that the changing of bedsheets are subject to putting a card requesting change of bedsheets. We didn't realise that you have to put a card on the bed in order to have the bedsheets changed. However they seemed to replace bath towels every day. We noticed our bedsheets were not changed and inquired the housekeeping staff on our last day, only to be told that a card is required to be placed on bed on our last day.

Overall, the AI option is better if you don't want to worry over the cost of food and drinks (they are expensive by Bali standard).

Dear Madaboutleo, Warmest greetings from The Tropical Paradise! First of all, thank you for staying with us and for sharing your impression to other travelers on TripAdvisor. We are absolutely delighted to hear that your stay with us was pleasant. Your kind words regarding the excellence of our Sakura Japanese Restaurant and Sorrento Mediterranean Restaurant in terms of service and food quality warm our hearts. We do, however, apologize for the inconsistencies you encountered at the Sateria Beachside Restaurant, and we are committed to ensuring a more consistent dining experience across all our venues. Regarding your room experience, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and assure you that we will reinforce our cleaning procedures to guarantee a dust-free and comfortable environment for all our valued guests. We also wish to share that Melia Bali is deeply committed to promoting eco-friendly and sustainable tourism among our guests. As part of our sustainability initiatives, we have adopted a more environmentally conscious approach to changing bedsheets and towels. We change these items only upon guest request, as indicated by the sustainability letter thoughtfully provided in your room. To request a bedsheet change, simply place the letter over the bed, and if you require fresh towels, leaving them inside the shower or bathtub will alert our housekeeping team. Your understanding and support in this endeavor to care for our planet is greatly appreciated. Once again, thank you for choosing Melia Bali, and we look forward to the pleasure of hosting you again in the future. Best regards, Santhi Sugiyanthi Guest Experience

We have been visiting the Melia Bali on and off since 1988 and can honestly say we have never been disappointed. The service over this long period has remained very consistent and was even improved with the addition of 'The Level' service, Garden Villas and Laguna Suites.

The staff have always provided an excellent service always with a smile. We have just returned after a three week stay starting in the Laguna suite and with the help of the manager (Eduardo and Doni) we were able to upgrade to Garden Villa 3 (which had previously been booked) and what a delight this was with excellent service each day but then we never expect anything less from the Melia. The villa was thoroughly cleaned everyday by the villa team including Adi Arhanah Mayun, Sumerta Sandi Wess, Pool guy and gardeners. The villa and grounds were sprayed everyday to minimise insects.

On our way to breakfast we always had a smile and a hello from the gardener. Our breakfast in the Sorrento was always looked forward to and what a great start to everyday greeted by Dayu Sri and our friend over many years Sagung who sadly is retiring this year, she will be greatly missed by us and we are sure the hotel. We enjoyed well cooked and presented breakfast everyday.

We have never seen in all our travels such well kept and beautiful gardens.

We would like to thank all the staff in the 'level' under the management of Doni, nothing was too much trouble including making reservations for restaurants (Yudi even managed to have delivered our favourite Balinese marmalade which is no longer available in the UK).

Finally is is unusual in a 5* hotel to see the manager walking around regularly and stopping for a chat, Eduardo the General Manager I think is the exception to the rule. He explained that the hotel would be undergoing extensive refurbishment and update in almost every area. Our only plea is that they do not lose the distinctive Balinesse architecture which makes this hotel most special it is not the usual style which you can find in any other 5* hotel found in other tourist areas and long may this remain the case. We look forward to these changes and to new menus iving an even wider choice in the individual restaurants.

Wife and I stayed Christmas 2023 for one week. First impression was good; reception area was impressive and beach was very nice. However things fell apart with the room and poor service.
Initially allocated double room with a shower over the bath. My wife has mobility problems which meant shower was inaccessible and asked to be moved. Shown second room which was immediately apparent smelt of damp and the bedding was very damp to the touch
Brought this to attention of staff; the remedy was to bring a large dehumidifier into the room to extract the damp air which indicated this was an ongoing problem They also changed bed sheets.
Got into bed and felt dampness coming through from the mattress into the clean sheets. Couldn't get resolution as too late in evening.
In morning spoke to Asst Manager regarding dampness and asked to move as room was too damp for habitation.
He spoke to Manager in private with manager who stated they only had an upgrade which we would have to pay for. We refused on grounds that we weren't looking for upgrade only habitable room.
Staff slow to deal and made enq's with Air bnb we had stayed week before to move back there; they had no vacancies.
Eventually shown 2 x room - one on top floor with mezzanine bedroom which was again damp and second in smoking area. Reluctantly chose room 2 which smelt strongly of smoke.
The dampness was reported by other guests in other rooms. I believe is caused by poor air-con system and poor ventilation. It was suggested it was due to closeness to beach but found this to be incredible as stayed in Bali for 4 weeks in other beach-side properties without repetition.
Booked Christmas day buffet months in advance at considerable cost and told on TWO occasions we could just turn up between the relevant times for meal. On arrival told we needed to book seating in advance, denied access and told to return half hour before meal ended.Refused to leave as other people were also experiencing safe issue.
Eventually granted access; food was already in short supply. Meal was so/so for price
Only ate in pool bar area and cafe. Food was average to very poor. Used restaurants off site.
Hotel food and facilities overpriced for Bali.
Waiting and room domestic staff were pleasant and friendly but anyone above that level I found to be inefficient and challenging to deal with.
Counted the days until I left and was glad to do so; I will not return.

Dear 82glynj, Warmest greetings from Melia Bali! Thank you for your detailed feedback about your stay during Christmas 2023. We are sincerely sorry to hear about the issues you experienced and deeply regret that your visit did not meet your expectations. We are pleased that you found our reception area and beach to be impressive upon arrival. However, we apologize for the inconvenience caused by the initial room allocation. We understand how critical accessibility is, especially for guests with mobility issues, and we are sorry for the oversight in room assignment. The situation with the damp room and subsequent issues with bedding and air quality are not up to our usual standards. We acknowledge that our response to the problem, including the use of a dehumidifier and moving you to other rooms that were also unsatisfactory, was inadequate. Please be assured that we are investigating these concerns thoroughly to prevent future occurrences. Regarding the Christmas Day buffet, we apologize for the confusion and miscommunication about the seating arrangements. This was clearly a frustrating experience, and we regret that it led to your denied access and diminished enjoyment of the meal. We are reviewing our reservation and communication processes to ensure clarity and avoid similar issues for future guests. We are also sorry to hear that our food offerings and pricing did not meet your expectations, and that the service from our management team did not reflect the high standards we strive for. Your comments about the overall quality and value are noted, and we will use this feedback to improve our services and staff training. We are committed to providing a pleasant and memorable experience for all our guests, and it is clear we fell short during your stay. We appreciate your feedback and would like to extend a sincere apology for the inconveniences you faced. If you would consider giving us another chance, we would like to offer a special rate for a future stay and personally ensure a better experience. Please contact us directly if you would be willing to discuss this further. Thank you again for your feedback. We hope to have the opportunity to restore your faith in our hotel. To summarise the hotel it isn't a 5 star hotel, from my experience its the equivalent to a what you get 4 star in Turkey.

The beach is a part time beach it is only there when the tide come in, they don't have enough beach towels and loungers for the amount of guests they have, so we to go to our room and use our bath towels and lay on the sand.

We was in bali for 3 weeks and stopped in 5 different 4 was 5 star and 1 was 4 star and this was the poorest hotel by far.

The food was poor, for a start the pure fruit juices where watered down which never happened at the other hotels. We ate another beach restaurant on our first day which the is hotels only day restaurant, me and my partner both said the meals where poor, mine was the size of a starter, dry we went off the resort along the beach front and ate some where else and ate off resort since apart from the breakfast. The feeling I got about the food is give as little quality as they can and charge as much as they can because the prices are the dearest hotels we've seen while we stayed here. A 700ml bottle of water with tax is £4.50 bearing in mind the rest of bali is charging £.0.45 for 500ml bottle.

Also another issue for us but might not be an issue for others a fleet of staff start cleaning the rooms at 9am which if you wanted a sleeping in you could because you just hear the moving of the furniture. Compared to other hotels which started at around 11am

I write this bad review also because I had only 1 minor other issue at another hotel and they resolved it within hours unexpectedly after they sent us a feedback email they swapped us rooms, I emailed the melia and sent photos and got no response from them, so basically if you have an issue they don't care!

If you want a proper 5 star resort go stop at the intercontinental at jimberan it's only 9km away 25 min in a taxi the hotel is on different level to this.

We just got back from 7 days all inclusive at melia Bali. This is not a 5* or even a 4* resort in comparison to other all inclusive across Europe and places like Turkey or Tunisia, so keep your expectations low.

We went as a family of 4, with my disabled mother who has MS. The resort is relatively accessible however they do not have a pool hoist or a pool wheelchair which is pretty basic equipment to have. There is some ramps around but where they could put a ramp one side and steps the other they just choose to have a row of steps instead. My dad is a gold member for Melia rewards and stays at lots of their hotels and was disappointed by the service received.

Pros:
- lovely hotel gardens, the staff work hard and you can tell
- beachfront location
- lots available to order from the Lunch restaurant or bar but this isn’t on the menu, e.g drinks, fruit etc
- has a gym
- taxi service to the area is relatively good
- stunning sunrise

Cons:
- in Bali you have to sign for absolutely everything you order, even bottled water which is usually just in fridges around all inclusive resorts. This gets annoying, especially when wearing an all inclusive band. It seems wasteful of paper.
- service is pretty awful, especially the bar service and concierge at the poolside areas, they are really slow at making drinks in comparison to other all inclusive. The poolside concierge has buttons by the loungers to push however they barely show up to them, they are under staffed and management need to have more employees and start the service earlier. There is 1-2 guys doing this until about 11/11:30 which isn’t fair on them and makes the service awful.
- you can spend 30 mins waiting for no one to turn up to take your poolside order but when you go to the bar or Lunch restaurant to order they then take your table number as if you shouldn’t have gone direct to them.
- the gym has 1 aircon tower but isn’t enough when you’re actually working out
- the rooms smell damp, particularly my parents room smelt so bad with the aircon leaking into the ceiling
- the food at breakfast and dinner in the main restaurant is basic compared to other all inclusive
- they don’t offer traditional Indonesian food as you would get it on the outside world to the hotel, it’s alot of focus on making food look pretty and not giving you a real Balinese experience
- there is only 3 toilets for poolside and they need toilets by the spa for pool users that side. They aren’t cleaned often and it was common to have poo on the seats
- there is no disabled toilet on poolside
- if you’re not all inclusive it’s excessively expensive compared to the area outside the exclusive Nusa Dua area.
- the staff can’t handle the number of guests, they need more staff
- the pool is never cleaned thoroughly and has suncream, dirt and bogies floating around most of the time which is grim
- they have no music on poolside to entertain you during the day which is quite common in other hotels and makes it more enjoyable
- the resort is much more humid than other areas of Bali
- drinks eg smoothies all come in cartons and aren’t really authentic smoothies as you would imagine them to be

I can see why it’s closing for refurbishment, we were in room 3110, as soon as you open the door the overwhelming smell of mould and damp from the air con was horrendous, mixed with the smell of stale urine from the bathroom was enough to take your breath away!
The sheets and pillows always felt damp which in turn gave my husband a really bad chest, (still has it now)
The grounds are beautiful and always being cared for, staff were all lovely and friendly,
We had food at the beach/pool bar a few times, the food was all really good, just needed a few more options as not much to choose from. We weren’t All Inclusive so we went out for dinner over the road to the Bali Collection which is shops and restaurants a few times.
As we paid for everything we were disappointed at the pool, when you ordered a drink be it a can of pop or a bottle of water they were always warm, and at nearly £4 for a small can and nearly £5.50 for a bottle of water isn’t really good enough, they gave you a plastic cup with ice but nine times out of ten had to ask for a clean cup as they don’t wash them very well, all sticky and remnants of the previous drink in them, not very nice or hygienic.
If I went back to Bali I’d stay elsewhere, I’ve been to a few Melias and this will probably be the last one, not very impressed.
Let’s hope they sort the mould smell problems with the refurbishments,

I thought I was getting the luxury of a 5 star resort, but that was not the case. When I arrived to my premium garden view room, it smelled of mildew and rotting wood. In addition, the bathroom needed much updating, and the entire room needs painting. Lastly, the bed was extremely hard to the point that my shoulders were hurting the next morning (I’m a side sleeper). The room was so far from expectations that I had to upgrade to the lagoon access room. This was much better, but could still use some upgrading—painting and bed. When upgrading, there were two other guest doing the same. I believe to be a 5 star resort, every room should be exquisite. On the other hand, the staff were great, the food was good, and there were several areas to relax. Late check out was until 6pm (with a fee of $79 USD) and the departure lounge allows those with late flights to shower and dress before departing. Overall, I’d give the facility (rooms) a 3.

First of all, we sincerely apologize that your experience did not fully meet your expectations, particularly with the room experience. Please rest assured that we take your comments seriously, and we will review these areas for improvement, including the need for updating and painting where necessary. We value your input as it helps us to enhance the guest experience. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future, providing you with a more enjoyable and seamless stay. My family and I came to spend our holidays in MELIA Bali and the truth that we have to thank the very nice and good treatment that all the staff has and there are even some employees who know some Spanish which is very appreciated, it is a hotel that has many amenities such as entertainment area, typical Bali restaurants, restaurants with great variety of food, drinking area, swimming pools, private beach etc... The rooms are quite comfortable equipped with TV, mini bar, very comfortable beds, a small balcony with quite comfortable chairs and table and air conditioning I have to stress that they are people who really like the cleanliness and it is always very clean. If you like cocktails we advise you to go to Tapas Bar Jungle where you will be attended by one of the guys who prepares some very good cocktails Bayu Nirvana as well as his partner Suksema Bakti are very nice and attentive people. Another point that for us was very important of this hotel is that they have Gym with quite current machines and very rigged. If you go with an all-inclusive as we were you can access a wide variety of food in all restaurants. It was a very good experience and we advised it.

Our suite was spotless and cleaned beautifully everyday by Saurdana & Yuda who left amusing towel sculptures each day, thank you for the smiles!
Staying at The Meliá is a wonderful experience as you are made to feel welcome & nothing is too much trouble. We stayed at the Level & were also upgraded to a bigger suite when we arrived which was a lovely surprise.
We loved the food at the Lotus with the traditional Indonesian dancers.
All the staff were amazing and although we had slight confusion with the pickup it was sorted with a smile & efficiency. Thank you to all your wonderful staff, it is the people that make such experiences worthwhile. We hope to be back once you reopen after the refurbishment next year.

Absolutely not I have stayed here 3 times and eaten in each of the restaurants with family including small children and we have never had an issue. The whole hotel is spotless.the only precaution we take is that we brush our teeth with bottled water Hope this puts your mind at ease
