The Grand Imperial is a heritage hotel and the only genuine 150 years old heritage hotel operating in Agra. The Grand Imperial was built in the early 1900 s as a Colonial Hotel for the British when the British Empire was at its peak. The hotel has history of hosting several leading celebrities heads of states such as The Crown Prince of England, Lady Edwina Mountbatten, (Vice Regal of India), Shah of Iran, Prince Aga Khan, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, (President of India), Jawaharlal Nehru, (Prime Minister of India), Jai Prakash Narayan, Mohammed Ali Jinnah, (founder and President of Pakistan etc.) and many famous film stars such as Dilip Kumar, Madhubala, Vaijayanti Mala etc. From the roof top of the hotel, one can easily get a view of the Taj Mahal, the Red Fort, Jama Masjid and many monuments of Agra. The hotel has a unique Colonial Victorian architecture blended with Mughlai style.

Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI

The Grand Imperial hotel enjoys acclaim for its enchanting charm and historic character, with many travelers captivated by its colonial architecture and cultural entertainment. While the rooms are generally appreciated for their historical allure, there are mentions of cleanliness concerns and noise from ongoing renovations. Its prime location near Agra Fort is a highlight, as is the staff's friendliness, though service inconsistencies have been noted. The hotel's amenities, including the pool and cultural events, are well-regarded despite occasional hiccups, leaving guests with mixed feelings on overall value.

During our stay the hotel had work in progress, but this did not take away the atmosphere of its charm, even though the pool wing was practically unusable or almost unusable. As soon as we arrived a receptionist took us to see, explaining them all, the photographic documents that capture historical moments for the hotel and excellent visits, and then accompany us to our room. Compared to the entire environment, the rooms are perhaps a bit small but still clean and comfortable, including the bathroom. The hotel restaurant is good, but at absolutely affordable prices. Breakfast was the best of the whole holiday with good variety even of desserts. In the evening, in the beautiful lawn inside the property, there is a puppet show, sparse enough but still interesting, to be paid for with a small tip.
A good landmark in Agra.

This hotel is packed with old-school charm. Room was comfortable and beautifully decorated. The staff were hardworking and welcoming, despite us showing up late at night after a delayed flight. Restaurant fare is on the pricier side compared to outside food (as to be expected with hotels) but tasty and generous, we also really enjoyed their special Xmas Eve dinner. Location is a bit further out from the taj area but it was very easy to get around using Uber auto (rickshaws) and the hotel’s garden area + pool area made it feel like a quiet oasis from busy Agra, so we slept well. They were doing some work on the rooftop during the time we were there so we weren’t able to use the terrace - a shame as the views seemed great.

Our group throroughly enjoyed out stay at this beautiful hotel. There is plenty of room to spread out and many ways to spend your time - relaxing on the lawn, lounging by the pool, getting a spa treatment, or even grabbing a cocktail at the little bar.

The daily buffet is fantastic and features many options for vegetarians and omnivores, alike.

The rooms are big and comfy. We had one of the 1st floor suites "Emperor Shivaji Maharaj" room, which opens out to the lawn in the front and the pool in the back! This could not have been more perfect. The rooms themselves are well appointed with stocked water, mini-fridge, large wash room, dressing area, and a big, comfy bed. The size is such that guests will want to dance across the floor of their room!

The staff was very helpful and Shabiya in particular worked hard to make our stay a great one. She invited us to special events, like a "puppet show" on the lawn and arranged for onsite henna, which pleased many members of our group!

During the trip, I did have a spa massage. The massage was very nice, but I'd love to see a smile and "welcome" coming into the spa and maybe water or chai after the massage...it's the little things.

My wife and I stayed at the Grand Imperial while we visited the Taj Mahal. We stayed in the princess suite. The room was great. Very high ceilings and 2 AC units with direct access to the pool. The concierge, Shabiya (spelling?), was especially helpful. She does beautiful Mehndi by the pool in the afternoons as well! The pool was very nice with a guard to ward off monkeys so you can feel safe leaving your belongings out while you swim. We enjoyed the pool service in the afternoon. It was so nice to have drinks by the pool in the scorching Agra heat. The restaurant was great and reasonably priced. Ali, the tuk tuk driver outside the parking lot was helpful and reasonably priced as well.

We received a nice welcome after a long drive. We must have looked a bit ragged as they demanded payment on arrival which was a bit unexpected but perhaps they have had some people run out on them. Our two rooms were upgraded to suites which were amazing with lots of period features. The rooms were huge but light switches and fridge door were pretty grubby and could do with a good clean. We stayed 3 nights here to relax before flying home and had planned to have some pool time. Unfortunately the pool is in a bad state of repair with cracks all around the waterline and a rusty nail sticking out of the wall under water. Water leaks out of the cracks which explains their reluctance to put the filter on. The filter fills it back up and if they leave it on they are just watering the garden through the cracks. Pool needs an overhaul. Otherwise the hotel and grounds are really nice. The restaurant is really good and food well priced, possibly the cheapest we had on the trip and the two restaurant managers were really nice even though they dressed like ninjas. Buffest breakfast here was 500rs so we had a la carte to the room instead, toast and fruit A-OK. Compared our Rajasthan stops Agra didn't offer much apart from the Taj Mahal which was expensive and scarily crowded to get into. In hindsight we wouldn't have visited Agra or done it at the start of the trip not the end.

The hotel staffs were very friendly and greeted every time we pass through the corridors which brought the homely feeling, especially from polite Krishankant. The hotel's receptionist, lovely Shabiya, readily applied beautiful henna on my hand upon arrival. We were allowed to choose the room as per our comforts (depends on the hotel's occupancy). In the evening, we got to see very puppets show performed by talented Ajay, who is trying to keep his ancestral occupation alive, originally from Rajasthan. Lastly, the meals served by proactive Javed were very delicious and even provided services during late hours and early morning. Despite there was ongoing continuous construction, however were quite impressed with no disturbance at all. It was a wonderful stay of 2 nights and will surely stay again in the future. Keep up the excellent customer service.

Highly recommend for an authentic taste of India. From the moment you are welcomed in through the doors away from the Agra chaos you enter a haven of peace and tranquility.we were treated to a flower garland and rose tea while we in.
Shabiya was behind the desk she greeted us with a beautiful warm smile ,traditional dress and perfect English she was both knowledgeable and charming and showed us to our room.I won’t ruin it for you but the hotel took my breath away ,a fabulous mix of India and Victorian nostalgia.
There are lots of vegan options ,curry and more …..absolutely outstanding!

This hotel is a real taste of India. Beautiful architecture and details generous rooms and gorgeous garden. There was even a puppet show in the garden each evening. They are just completing a new wing of rooms which mimic the architecture and layout of the current rooms. The only slight inconvenience was that the hot water was inconsistent. The real treasure of this hotel is the staff- very keen to please and to make guests happy. Shabiya showed us around the property upon our arrival and made us feel especially welcome throughout our stay. She even brought a cake to our room when she found out that it was our wedding anniversary- so sweet!
