First of all, the great stuff: Macdonald’s Cottages has clean, lovely cottages. Dinner is cooked by Sisi every night. She accommodated to our tastes, our restrictions and our preferences with healthy, perfectly well-cooked, well-seasoned meals with excellent variety and taste. Sisi also cleaned and provided for our cottage including lovely fresh flowers each day. Ruben keeps the grounds and gardens lovely and meticulously well cared for, and provided us with delicious coconuts and fruits. Both Sisi and Ruben are very kind and warm and friendly, and made our stay even more meaningful. As far as activities, we brought our wingfoil gear, and were able to go wingfoiling every day, and enjoyed this immensely throughout our 2 week stay. We also went snorkeling with Ryan. He took us by boat to beautiful coral reefs and gave us ample time to explore. We are experienced snorkelers and SCUBA divers, and this was world class snorkeling. In all fairness, I could give MacDonalds Cottages 5 stars in that it is exactly what it says it is- clean cottages on beautiful property, without warm water, AC, or Wi-Fi, with only generator-driven electricity available from 8:30am to 2 pm, and 5:30-9:30. Unfortunately, it was very hot, and sticky especially at night, so not being able to have electricity to run the fans at night to cool us off, made it very difficult to sleep. This was compounded by an abundance of gnats and mosquitoes so I was completely bitten up. In addition, since there is no breakfast or lunch provided, we had our food in the cottage refrigerator, but it does not stay cold enough (especially since the refrigerator is off 14 1/2 hours/day that the generator is off), so much of our food spoiled. There is no store easily accessible. The sunsets and the water are BEAUTIFUL.

We two of us had a great time at Mc Donalds cottages in a hut made for 5 ! 😁 Bought our own food and drinks in Rakiraki, went by Taxi to the wharf and then to nananu I ra... so easy to transport everything. The Hut has a small kitchen and a fridge, where it was great to Cook our own food after some weeks of traveling on Fiji and eating after mealplans... but we had also 2 times good food at the Restaurant of the resort. Electricity supply from around 8am till 2pm and again from 6pm till 10pm, enough power to charge, also for the fridge and freezer (except you open the door all the time) Maxime the owner is very friendly and also the workers😊 Snorkeling was not the best for us in front of the guesthouse... 2-5 m only, probably because of the cyclone just before... little better on the other side of the Island. No diving experience here because of the visibility... Walking around the Island clockwise took us 4 hours... not easy in the beginning because of mangroves, but possible 😁 We would highly recommend this place if you search for a quiet, clean and self contained 😀 We will never forget our stay here🥰

Nananu i Ra is right at the northern tip of Viti Levu. Nananu-I-Ra is an island in Fiji about 3 kilometers off the north coast of the main island of Viti Levu, near the town of Rakiraki in Ra Province. The island is 3.5 square kilometers and has a maximum elevation of 180 meters. The name "Nananu-I-Ra" means "Daydream of the West" in Fijian. It's 96k from Nandi. Boat ride from the jetty makes it fun.

Group of 7 stayed in 2 cottages. Enjoyed cooking facilities, Bbq, and dined in restaurant as well. Swimming every day in crystal clear ocean, chilling out at comgortable beachside cottages. Lovely crew who keep cottages and grounds tidy. Take your own food supplies or use restaurant. So serene. Highly recommend this resort as a getaway.

We stayed in a cottage for 12 nights. We absolutely loved this place. The cottages are clean, functional and in the most beautiful setting. The food is terrific, and the staff are super friendly. The host Maxine was welcoming and joined guests for dinners at night. It is truly a great place to stay if you want to kite board. We got 8 days of wind out of 12. Its a short walk to windward beach from the cottages. There are kayaks and great snorkeling around the island for when there is no kiting. Great place for a true fijian experience.

Loved this place!. Accommodation was clean & comfortable, the food was delicious & the grounds were gorgeous. You can opt to bring your own food & cook yourself or eat each meal at the dining room for an extra fee. Plenty to do, you can go snorkelling, kayaking or just swim in the beautiful clear water. You can also walk along the beaches or tracks through the bushland. The Labyrinth is worth a look at sunset.

I loved staying here! There is very good snorkelling just in front of the place. The island is very quiet and tranquil with nice beaches to explore. It seems like this is a hidden gem as there was barely anyone there, which made it a really nice place to relax at. The facilities were good and the hosts very friendly and accommodating. Thanks Maxine and Feelow!

Both the island and the setting of the cottages are absolutely stunning. It's a lovely little compound in good condition, and very well maintained garden and flowers. The views onto the main island - which you can take in from hammocks hung from coconut palms right at the beach - are brilliant. All the rooms come with what the owners call a "kitchenette", but are actually fully functional and really well equipped kitchens. (Tip for the owners: It would be nice though if some basics like salt, pepper, oil, vinegar were provided.) Maxine, who runs (and owns?) the place was really friendly and helpful in organizing my trip. I was the only guest during my stay, and she was so generous to upgrade me from the dorm I had booked to a private room. Thank you! The downside: I felt like none of the staff (Maxine and two staff) cared for interacting with me in any way. If I needed something I always had to go find them first. When I first arrived they saw that I had brought some food and just assumed that I would self cater the whole stay, even though that hadn't been my intention. The initial introduction to the place left out some important stuff, and I also got no information on how the island worked and things I could do. I'm sure that all of this is different when there are more guests there (which I'm told there are when it's tourist season). But as it was I felt quite alone there even though the staff was actually around all day and couldn't have been all that busy.

We wanted to escape Suva and spend a week somewhere quiet and peaceful, and this place was ideal. The bure was basic but clean and comfortable, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious (especially the pizza!) It was dark and quiet at night so we both slept really well while there. And unlike so many places in Fiji, the price was reasonable! Would definitely recommend.

Nananu I Ra is such a beautiful, pristine, quiet and colourful island. Maxine's cottages have everything you need, are very clean and surrounded by beautiful nature. You can hear the sound of the waves and the birds, absolutely beautiful. Maxine was so kind and caring, she really made sure that I was happy and alright as I was on my own. I enjoyed our conversations and her positive and happy personality. She has great local knowledge and knows an amazing, affordable and quality local diving company which will pick you up from her place and give you the most fascinating diving experience on a great boat trip! You can get a kayak to explore and snorkel on other beaches around the island or just walk around. I've been invited to the local volleyball game, the guys showed me where to go for walks... I felt like living in a paradise. I'd highly recommend this kind and beautiful place, surely best on the island! Thanks to Maxine and the others!!
