Detailed Reviews
Our family visited Savasi Island over New Year’s Day 2020. We have never been to Fiji before, and quite honestly it was neither my wife nor my first choice. Thanks to some persistent lobbying by our children, ages 14 and 12, we decided to give it a try. We could not have been more pleased with our decision. The Fijian people are famously friendly and hospitable, but the Savasi team takes that to a whole new level. They greet you upon arrival with Song, and the first thing Ma says to you is, “Welcome home!” From that moment on, we did feel like we had found a new home.
The hotel is beautifully set on Savasi island, a spur of land cut off from the rest of Vanua Levu by a narrow channel. The lobby/ restaurant and most of the rooms face south onto the Koro sea, and benefit from gentle afternoon and evening breezes. We stayed in the Sea Breeze suite, with two beautifully appointed bedrooms, an infinity pool, an outdoor bathtub, and a deck overlooking the nearly private beaches and coral reefs that surround the island.
The staff were on hand to anticipate and fulfill just about anything we could imagine, taking us snorkeling, kayaking on the salt river and lake, on a waterfall expedition, and even into Savasi town for Sunday services at the Methodist church where we listened to the most amazing singing. Jope even took time to give chess lessons at happy hour to my boys and I!
We celebrated New Year’s eve in an intimate setting, Serenaded by Ukulele and guitar and island voices, and participating in a Cava sharing with the staff. A great way to bring in 2020 almost a full day ahead of friends and family back home!
The restaurant is amazing, serving delicious Fijian dishes that change almost every day. We especially loved the breakfasts of amazingly ripe fruit, freshly baked breads, and all sorts of amazing choices. Most days at lunch and dinner, freshly caught fish was on the menu, and it was invariably amazing. It must be said, service in the restaurant - while charming, attentive, and personal - does tend to move on “Fiji time.” No one is in a particular hurry, which we found to be a refreshing change from our normal frenetic lifestyle. Some may not enjoy that leisurely pace as much - but I did always find that staff adapted to the needs of all the guests.
We can’t wait to return to Savasi island, and for anyone seeking a place to feel at home in Fiji, I couldn’t give it a stronger recommendation.

we booked to stay 3 nights at this lovely resort ended up staying an extra night. Once you get here its hard to take your kids away. The staff are welcoming, helpful and caring all the time. The food is great and more than adequate for all to enjoy. The rooms we stayed in was amazing, both had their own swimming pools with ocean views and a few steps away from the beach. Beautiful place, amazing sunrise in the mornings and spacious rooms in a peaceful, quite and a private resort. The rooms have plants all around it offering privacy from other rooms that our family truly enjoyed. Nature blends very well with modern facilities surrounding by the ocean. In this times. its very rare you meet staff that are faced with a tourism downturn yet they remain so friendly and accommodating and truly enjoy the work they are doing. Our family enjoyed the company of the ladies at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Management team makes you feel welcomed and they make you feel like a family member rather than a paying guest. Cant wait to get back to this resort. Best place we have been to in Fiji and the Pacific.

Gary & I were at this excellent boutique resort in December 2019, which was small, intimate, filled with wonderfully personal staff, meals were always well prepared and delicious! Did I mention that resort service was top notch!?
From the moment we arrived at the resort, we were greeted by the most marvelous Fijian song by Ma and her staff.
The check in service was very guest friendly, we were welcomed warmly by Ma and were given a refreshing drink, a brief resort orientation and then given a foot scrub/massage, before being shown to our fantasy-like accommodations!
Our private bungalow was situated in a secluded spot, surrounded by nature which came with it‘s own infinity plunge pool, overlooking the ocean. After tramping around New Zealand for 2 weeks, this was just what we needed!
Food was top notch and plentiful, so much so, that at each sitting, I requested downsizing my plating at each meal.
Hats off to all the chefs!
One can do as much or as little while staying at Savasi Island Resort: the trip to downtown for unique souvenirs and local flavor, the waterfall/village visit and guided snorkeling on the outer side of the reef are a must!
Leaving was tearful as we felt we were leaving new-found family and friends.
Ma, we hope you, (Gary’s Brother) Ben, Mona and the entire staff are all well, especially in this uncertain Covid time.
Vinaka and stay well…….Gary & Liz

If you want a cozy place to stay in Savusavu, Savasi Island, located not far from the airport, is a comfortable and pleasant location complete with scenic views, delicious food, friendly people, activities at every level and a welcoming atmosphere. Our villa had a covered patio, an infinity pool and great views of the ocean. We liked staying at this small resort because we had a chance to meet people from New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the U.S. and other countries. Definitely a wonderful experience.

The motto of this resort is Private, Beautiful, Peaceful and it lived up to every word. As a family of 4 with 2 older teens this resort was perfect.
When we arrived we were greeted and introduced to the staff with handshakes. When we left 7 days later it was with hugs all round.
Our villa was actually 2 villas sharing a deck and private pool. Our kids had their own room with outdoor bathroom and our villa was large with sitting area, bar fridge/ drinks area and bathroom. There was an outdoor shower next to the pool which made 3 in total!
All the villas are spaced around the grounds and we could not hear anyone nearby. The only time we saw other guests was at meal times and then the tables were spaced around the deck and restaurant area. Meals were amazing and some days it was hard to chose what to have.
Activities were booked at your own time and convenience. We were lucky enough to have our own private guide each time and got to experience the amazing reef away from the resort without having to share or with crowds.
This resort was perfect for older teens who love nature. The edge of the reef was just outside the resort with plenty to see and explore snorkeling with lots of coral, reef fish and the odd white tipped reef shark. There is no playground or communal pool and most activities are water based so maybe not ideal for those with young children. And yes it is the tropics so there are some creepy and crawlies but nothing dangerous.
All the staff were absolutely beautiful. Everyone greeted you with a smile and nothing was too much trouble. Our room and pool were cleaned each day magically while we were at breakfast and beds turned down while at dinner - so discreet and non intrusive.
Thank you to everyone at Savasi for making this Christmas special for us, we hope to return one day!

We arrived to a warm welcome. It's a very small resort, with just as much staff as guests. Very private and tranquil. You don't want to come if you don't want privacy, relaxation, great service, beautiful surroundings and being away from the hustle and bustle of the world. I would recommend splurging for one of the villas. The rooms on the Serenity are very nice, but the villas are amazing. You are hidden away in a villa, nothing to disturb you, just the beautiful ocean. You can eat in the dining area, all outdoors, some under roof, some not, or you can get room service. They also let you eat in a cave or on the beach, you choose. Views are amazing. Watersports are snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming and diving. You can take a hike and always they have staff to go with you if you want. Yoga is offered in the morning and massages are available and wonderful. The staff is wonderful and I will not name names, just incase I forget one of them. But everyone was great. The food was delicious and if you don't like what's on the menu, they will make you what you like. Freshly made juices, straight from the tree into your glass. We would like to say a big vinaka vakalevu to everyone at Savasi Island resort. We had an amazing time!

Savasi Island Resort is a paradise. Small beaches scattered around the island, an abundance of fish to explore in the warm waters, beautiful accommodation and a staff who go out of their way to make you feel welcome and cared for during your stay. With only 12 villas it is easy to feel you have the island to yourself, but step into the dining and bar area and staff, musicians and other guests are there to mingle with. In our 8 night stay we rarely ate at the same table (mostly outside) as all offer different views and perspectives of the sea and surrounding lush tropical trees and gardens. Villas were fabulous and we especially enjoyed the private pool! We loved all the excursions - tubing down a river, kayaking to a salt lake, snorkelling to split rock where thousands of fish were there to watch, and the trip to a local village and short hike to a wonderful waterfall. As others have said, it is the staff above all, that separates this place from many holiday resorts. From housekeeping to the activities team and workers who kept the grounds immaculate, it was easy to feel part of an extended family. Special thanks to Ma for your endless energy and humour, Joe, Kele, Sala and Milla in the restaurant, Joppe for accompanying us on our excursions and sharing your knowledge of Fijian history and culture and finally, to Isaac who was always present and attentive and set up a romantic dinner for us on the beach on our final night. This is indeed a special place!

Booked a 7 night 2 bedroom cliff pool villa. On arrival at the airport staff waiting for pick up and then we got to the property and staff waiting and then sung to us amazing. The grounds are lush tropical and well maintained. Mai who meet us one of the happiest and most friendly person I have meet. We then went to our room just amazing views and waters edge pool and wrap around balcony. Large kitchen and lounge but no TV but that's great to unwind from the world your entertainment is the ocean and view outside. Bedroom very big. Though a little dated perhaps renovation it was clean and comfortable the air conditioner remote did not work but spare one from the other room worked. It's a boutique resort so not many people so you can relax. The food all inclusive and amazing different choices eat night never went hungry and the views and the different decks and locations to dine amazing and staff so friendly attentive and amazing you felt like part of the family nothing was ever to much to do. The activities were good and the day Spa

We went there as part of our honeymoon. Unfortunately February is the wet season and the weather wasn't nice but we made the most of it. You can forget about the activities if it's raining but we managed to go snorkeling anyway since you get wet regardless and we did the waterfall excursion in between rain falls. There is a dive shop (Korosun Diving) that is partner with the resort and it's really convenient, especially since the diving was really really good around the resort.
Food is at pre-fixed times like other resorts and you have to select your menu during breakfast for your lunch and dinner. Food is slow to come but the quality is good.
Unlike other resorts the wifi was free but only available in your room and extremely slow (don't plan to work remotely there).
Plunge pool feels nice and is deep enough and you can enjoy the view of the ocean but there's an army of mosquitoes ready to attack you as soon as you get out. Bugs were everywhere so make sure to put some bug repellant at all times.
The staff was very friendly, always checking in and accommodating. Ma, the manager, was really nice and helpful as we had to deal with flight cancellations at the same time we stayed there.

Bula Pierre and vinaka vakalevu for choosing Savasi to celebrate such a wonderful milestone! We are so glad to hear you enjoyed your stay, regardless of the rain. Thank you for making mention of our wonderful diving, snorkeling and food. In our tropical wet season, we do see an increase in bugs from time to time particularly on the lagoon side that is more protected from the sea breezes, but we provide lots of means to keep guests comfortable from these pesky little nuisances! It was a pleasure hosting you both and warm regards from the whole team.

Accessed by Fiji air on an easy 1 hr flight from Nadi on a small plane - we chose the ‘pay in Fjd ‘ option in their website & strangely it was significantly cheaper than paying in Aud - A bonus!
What is there to fault at Savasi resort? Very little, it is the most wonderful atmosphere in a serene setting.
There are a number of things that put this resort at the top of our many Fiji trips. it’s a combination of the beautiful environment, the staff who are amazing, the villas are authentic Fijian and the food was faultless.
We stayed for a six day package and the fact that food is included here is fantastic. Having travelled all over the world, we can confidently say this food was up there with the best. No matter what cultural food they were cooking, it was a A1!
We booked a 1 bed cliff top villa direct with the resort and were lucky enough to be upgraded to a 2 bedroom – villa 5 which was set back out of the wind, but still had sun on the pool most of the day. It was heaven!
Take an eyepatch if you are woken easily as the villas are positioned for the views, so don’t have full window coverings.
The only thing we found is maybe the air cons will need re- gassing as they struggled to cool the rooms fully at night when it was hot.
The resort is kept pristinely clean and we noted that the small things, like staff brush all the many paths with a broom rather than using a noisy leaf blower, ensuring the peacefulness. They offer activities if you want to do a lot and you can relax if not.
But what makes a resort like this has to be its staff. You can feel when people are happy where they work and the balance is just right here. They are the most beautiful people always friendly and willing to help, while professional and humble.
A resort is only as good as the staff they hold and the owners are lucky to have people like this as the face of Savasi resort.
We had a birthday dinner in the special cave area & the staff came & sang with a bday cake which was a lovely touch!
After more than two decades of visiting Fiji, we can say we will be back – it felt like family. Next time we will time our flights to go straight thru to Savasi from home, as international & domestic terminals are side by side.

Hi! We saw one from a boat but not poisonous and allegedly harmless. That was the only time. Cannot comment anything else on the subject. But if it was me, I would not let that fear get in my way of a holiday! I have lived in other parts of the world where these were supposed to be common.... never saw one! Enjoy! ... or take a consultation for phobias perhaps? Best wishes
There are excellent snorkelling spots to explore on your own within a very short distance from the villas or within walking distance to other parts of the island. Soft and hard corals to be seen and a variety of sea life. If you go with a Savasi activities guide, they can show you some of the best spots and point out incredible sea life- on my own trip we saw an octopus and an incredible variety of fish. I also recommend doing the 'half day snorkelling trip to Natewa Bay' activity, it is like an underwater garden of eden.
Yea you can swim from a beach at high tide. At low tide you’ll need to visit one of the beaches closer to the lagoon to swim from shoreline.
Very easy. You just walk down a path.
