The Turtle Island experience started as soon as we walked out of baggage claim at the Nadi airport. They were ready for our arrival bright and early! We spent a couple of nights in the Port Denaru area prior to Turtle Island and they happily provided transport to and from the hotel.
The seaplane transport was a quick, scenic trip from Nadi to the island. Once we made it, we were greeted with singing, hugs and a fresh cocktail! After a tour around the island, we got settled into our FABULOUS waterfront bure and met with our Bure Mama Adi. Turtle assigns a mama or papa to each bure and they they take care of you for the stay- plan your meal locations based on preference (breakfast in bed, private lunch/dinner locations, etc), pack and deliver your beach picnics, laundry, stock the fridge, and so much more.
Our bure was waterfront, and it was beautiful. We could see the colorful sky change from inside each day-not that we were inside much. We had more than enough space for the two of us. Our favorite things in the bure were the outdoor showers (one at the front to rinse off sand and saltwater and completely private shower in the back), two bathrooms, and the outside day bed.
The drink selection, food and service was outstanding. Each morning we were greeted with hugs and of course a “Bula!” I’m sure I will miss someone, but Lisi, Sarah, Grace, LaLa, Lema, Sai, Nikki, were phenomenal and never hesitated to get us what we requested.
The purpose of our trip was a combined wedding and honeymoon. To any brides reading, this was the least stressful, most beautiful location. When I say everything was planned in a matter of a 10 minute walk with Mama Lu to pick location, I am not exaggerating. Cake, flowers, all of it. I got ready in the Spa with Maca and Tima. They were so attentive and helpful with buttoning the back of my dress and helping with my veil. Everybody worked SO hard to make sure our day and location was perfect. Our day was so so special.
Cam loves to fish and we had the opportunity to fish 3 mornings. Two of the mornings we caught fish! Erami was our wedding officiant and our boat captain! He is awesome and has the best hugs! Plus he made sure I had enough sunscreen on for all of our outings.
I truly could go on and on about how great of a place Turtle Island is, but the people are what makes it such a great destination. To Adi, Mikah, Erami, Angie, Mere, Joe, Jerry, Bill, Elle, Lisi, Sarah, Grace, LaLa, Lema, Nikki, Sai, Mitah, Mama Lu, Maca, and Tima (and all those I missed)- Cam and I thank you for the most memorable trip. We can’t wait to be back. Keep smiling family!

As soon as we landed in Fiji, the extensive team at Turtle Island were aware and welcoming from the minute that we walked off the plane. Then from the moment that we took our first steps on Turtle Island, with the angelic voices of the staff welcoming and singing to us, we knew we had arrived somewhere extra special. Our Bure Mama T welcomed us with open arms, making sure that every attention to detail was looked after, treating us as a new family member. The islands charm needs to be enjoyed in person, absorbing all of it's beauty. We were lucky enough to be able to bring our children and enjoy family time on the island. Bula Nanny Aggie and Bula Buddy Sai could not do enough for our children, the experiences that they shared will remain with them forever. From crabbing, spear fishing, visiting the neighbouring school or clam digging, every single activity was enjoyed immensely. Our children aren't fond of Kids Clubs but this family village was something else. The food was wonderful, fresh, local and tasty. We love the passion that the staff have explaining where the produce came from and how they are mostly self-sufficient. The optional day tours were also another highlight, with many options catering to everyone's individual needs. The island was quiet enough to enjoy the serenity but had enough for you to do to keep as busy as you would like, including the day spa, water sports or external experiences like cave tours and fishing. The little things that they do to make your stay extraordinary is exceptional and adds to the whole positive vibe of making memories, in which we did. We really had the best time and we can understand why people return time after time to enjoy the beauty of the island and its people. You have won our hearts Turtle Island, we will be back.

The best way to describe Turtle Island is magical! We have traveled all over the world staying in various hotels, resorts, boutique hotels and the like and Turtle Island is truly one of a kind. Surely the location, bures and topography are 6 star but what makes it so special are the Fijian staff, and service they provide. Romance is alive and well on the island and although you are surrounded by what feels like the best family ever, you have privacy, alone time, and feel like you are all alone on the island but at any given time, you have ALL you need and more when you need it. 500 acres of paradise and only 14 couples that is the legacy continued by the owner Richard. Each and every meal is prepared fresh and healthy on their almost fully sustainable island. You are submersed in their culture and heritage and that creates a bond of a lifetime. We love the Turtle Family and as they say in Fijian Sota Tale! Andy and Denise

My husband and I just returned from a trip to Turtle Island to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary, and to say the trip far exceeded our expectations is a gross understatement. We found TRUE paradise, and we are still feeling the love in our hearts from the most amazing staff of people on an island whose superior beauty is exceeded only by the beauty of the people working there We didn't read any reviews or do any research before we left. Our daughter and her boyfriend were guests last November, and they returned from their trip saying "you need to go to Turtle Island!" We took their word, as well as the word from every friend, acquaintance, or stranger we met who had also been there. The advice is unanimous. This is the best vacation you will ever take. And it is worth every penny. From the moment you land and meet Maggy and Peter and their warm smiles at the Nadi airport, you know you are getting the best care possible. Once you arrive on the island, Bill, Bale, Mere, and their amazing group of staff welcome you with open arms and you feel immediately like you have returned to your loving family. The joy and love you feel from their smiles, their music, and their warm hugs is infectious. No surprise, this feeling of love and acceptance spreads amongst you and the other guests as well throughout your stay. The entire staff (all amazing, hard working Fijian locals from the nearby islands) take such incredible care of your every need. The accommodations of your personal "Bure" are spacious, clean, comfortable, and in a word, perfect in every way!! While I personally loved the beautiful, big shower, private jacuzzi, comfortable bed and day bed on the porch, and dual toilets, I must say the amazing cookie jar that our Mama Laveti replenished daily with the best cookies and brownies was a personal favorite! Your private Bure is of course on the beach with an incredible view of the spectacular Blue Lagoon!! You can walk out and swim or snorkel any time of day in the warm, clear, blue waters right at your doorstep. During your stay, your own personal Bure "Mama" or "Papa" is taking care of all of your needs (even needs you didn't know you had!) both behind the scenes as well as with you when you take daily trips by boat or cart to private beaches and excursions. I could literally go on an on with how amazing this trip was, how special the people are, and how well worth the price is for this once in a lifetime experience!! But since I am back at home and back to reality (greatly missing my "Mama" and the staff who cooked and cared for us, the best food we have ever had, I might add!), I instead need to sign off and return to my daily chores and responsibilities at home. I will leave this review with the final note that we can't wait to go back, we now understand why so many guests from Turtle Island return again and again, and Sota Tale Turtle Isand!!! ( See you again soon!) Vinaka Turtle Island staff for this life changing vacation!!

Turtle Island was a dream. My now fiance and I visited this May to celebrate my birthday and we also got engaged. The staff is excellent. They made me feel very special on the night of my birthday and assisted my fiance with his proposal. The food was exceptional, I am a vegetarian and the cook went above and beyond to make me my own creations. The private villas are lovely. They include a double shower, two toilets, two sinks, a spa and outside day bed. You also have your own section of beach right out front. The views are incredible. The snorkeling is beautiful. The people are the best.

We headed across to Turtle to celebrate a wedding anniversary, to get some much needed rest and to recharge. Turtle delivered on all three fronts, thanks to the Turtle family who all dedicate themselves to making sure you are smiling and content at all times. Staying in Bure 2 was ideal, just a 30-50 m stroll and into the crystal clear ocean. The food was a highlight, delicious, nutritious with lots of variation, the cocktails - fabulous.

When asked over the years where is that most special place you love in the world? I have always said Turtle Island in Fiji! It's been 32 years and for my 70th birthday my bucket wish was to go back! We just returned from a week of heaven and happy to say it's even better than I remember! What makes this so special for me is the warmth and joy of the Fijian family that you share time with. Their bright smiles and the joyfullness in their singing is something magical. The fact that there are only twelve bure set on a white sand beach on the blue lagoon makes you feel like a castaway on a glorious tropical island. Each day they set aside a private beach where they deliver cocktails and lunch and you radio in when you want to be picked up.. While your bure is very luxurious and EVERYTHING (from diving, sunrise horseback ride to stocking your bar) is included....there is nothing pretentious here but more of a feeling of community. We met people from all over the world that come back every year because there is nothing like this.! Once experienced...never forgotten.

Our stay on Turtle Island was a treat. The best part of our stay was the wonderful staff. They were always warm, friendly, and attended to our every need (to the point that I felt lazy). The resort is also great. Turtle Island puts in a lot of effort to make everything comfortable, and natural feeling. The bure's are a great example of this. The are the perfect amount of luxury under a handcrafted thatched roof bure. I enjoyed the small capacity of the Island too. The highest number of guests on the Island during our stay was 18. The experience is set up to be as private or group-setting as you want it to be. You can choose to eat meals around the central table, or enjoy a meal on a private beach. There are so many activities that we couldn't do them all during our week long stay. When you check-in you are assigned a Bure Mama who will be your guide and main point of contact while you are on the Island. Mama Wait made our stay extremely comfortable and became a friend. Communication on the Island is very well thought out. Each bure gets a radio that you can use to request anything your might need while on the Island.

My partner and I treated ourselves to a stay on Turtle Island in late December 2021, and to say we were blown away is an enormous understatement. This was honestly one of the best holidays we have ever had, and we've made memories that will last a lifetime. The resort (and island as a whole to be correct) is as close to the definition of paradise as you can possibly imagine, with countless private pristine beaches, walking trails, and crystal clear turquoise waters). Our bure was spacious and rich in simple luxuries (no WiFi in the rooms, but beautiful furniture, bedding, and amenities were what it really was about). The food every day was incredible thanks to Chef Beni - some of the best food we've ever eaten. A special thanks must be given to the staff, who are what make this resort truly a special place - each and every person working on the island showed kindness, warmth, humour and love - we truly felt like part of a family. If there's one thing we look forward to coming back to the most, it's the people. A special thanks to Mama Lu, who looked after us the whole time like we were her own children! We are beyond grateful.

From the minute you step off the plane in Nadi you will be looked after by the amazing staff at Turtle island. We caught the seaplane to the island after having a nap and a bite to eat at the Nadi apartment whilst waiting for more guests to arrive.
The accomodation is spacious and clean and your Bure Mama looks after your every need, cleans you room twice daily, and organises all your activities. The food is delicious and you can have it as a communal dining experience or anywhere on the island that you wish. Every staff member knows your name and nothing is too much trouble.
Every day you can choose one of the many secluded beaches to have lunch at and you will be delivered there with your amazing picnic lunch and any drinks you choose (including French champagne) The beach is then closed to everyone else and you have complete seclusion until you're ready to return to the resort.
I can't recommend the place highly enough!

Yes, absolutely you can. You can have romantic dinner for two on the pontoon, end of the dock, in front of your Bure, on the beach, you name it! So easy. All you have to do is to arrange it with your Bure Mama (Your personal Buttler) and you also get to choose what you like to eat off of a menu!
The air conditioners are over the beds in the Bures. They’re ok depending on the time of year but it’ll be a bit on the warmer side. There are plans to upgrade them at some point to try and provide a cooler experience for those that like those creature comforts but I didn’t hear any specific ETAs on when that improved AC might be available in all rooms. There are likely a couple of Bures that will be tested with that new design first and then rolled out if it’s successful.
As for bugs, yes there are bugs as it’s a tropical island. They do have bug repellent available in the Bures and around the main portions of the island for guests to use. You will get the occasional bug bite but it might vary depending on the time of year, temperature, etc. If you prefer stronger or more sensitive skin bug repellent you might be best packing your own. All the beds have mosquito netting at night to help with keeping you bite free while you sleep. Biggest thing to pack is sunscreen. Easy to run out even after a week if you’re not careful and do a lot of swimming/snorkeling/diving where you constantly need to re-apply. That you’ll want to pack your own as while they do have some available on the island it’s not the cheapest for some smaller tubes of sunscreen.
Bula,
Turtle Island is truly all-inclusve. We want your stay to be carefree, so all your meals and dining experiences, beverages (wines, cocktails and spirits) and activities are included. You’ll soon discover that you’ve been transported to a heavenly place where there are no bills to sign, no currency to convert, no monetary considerations whatsoever.
We certainly do have Gluten Free Options. When you book with Turtle Island, your personal concierge will list all of your allergies and preferences. Whilst it does not list Gluten Free Options, if you would like a sample copy of our menu, please inquire via our website.
Regarding the pros and cons of both resorts, obviously we could be seen as biased! Truthfully, all of Fiji is spectacular and each part of the Fiji Islands tells a different story of our incredible country. For the second year in a row, Turtle Island has been voted #1 resort in the South Pacific by Travel + Leisure readers. Turtle Island is located in the Northern Yasawa Islands which are famous for having the best beaches in Fiji and also drier and more stable weather conditions than the East of Fiji.
