My husband and I had the immense pleasure of staying at Nakia for our visit to Taveuni. At the outset we were told that they aimed to treat us like family, but I said to my husband " I dont know anyone who is that accomodating to their family." Everyone went out of their way to make us feel at home and strived to help us do all we wanted on our vacation. Asita, Titi, Ron, Va, Shubs, Joeli, and the other staff knew our names and habits from day 1. Jim, one of the owners, took the effort to know what each of his guests were up to every day, checking in with us in the evenings on how the day had been. Robin was unfortunately away during our visit, though we would love to meet her. Julie, who runs Taveuni Ocean Sports, was also gracefully helping to run the resort and ensure that our planned diving mornings ran smoothly. This varied from a quick check in about plans, to communicating these with the staff at Nakia. And don't get me started on the food. The portions were generous and the food delicious. Nakia also grows much of their own produce. On one occassion when I asked for coconut water, they let me know to wait a few minutes because someone needed to climb the coconut tree. They also quickly learned my love of passionfruit, and brought me the last one on the morning of our departure. Taveuni is a quieter island with a more remote feel, and you are subject to the whims of nature here. There are rainstorms and mosquitos to contend with. But, at Nakia, we felt entirely comfortable. The staff were so attuned to our needs, always ready with a mosquito coil, that we were able to appreciate the magnificence of this place. Countless times I sat outside, sipping hungrily at a cup of homemade chai (which I highly recommend) and enjoying the ocean view. They also now have air conditioning in the bures, which offers respite on the hotter days. Needless to say, we are already planning our next visit.…
Lovely to visit after Christmas in 2020 - with international borders closed I was lucky to be stuck in Fiji and be able to enjoy the hospitality of Robin Kelly and family. Beautiful clean room (sunset view) and a lovely room. Staff were reduced (due to pandemic and low tourist numbers) but you’d never know as everything was perfectly taken care of. Swimming pool was pristine (despite a recent storm) and was so relaxing to eat all meals on the veranda - we were even able to celebrate New Year’s Eve with the family and other guests! Such a treat …
We had a wonderful time at Nakia resort. Because we are locals we've been fortunate enough to stay at many resorts in Fiji, and this was by far our favorite. We stayed at the Somosomo family bure. The accommodation is beautiful, the view amazing, and the food was spectacular. Really - we looked forward to every meal. But what really made this place special was the people we met. The owner Robin treated us like family (and is a lovely person), the kitchen and wait staff spoiled us (and our children), and Ron (the resort's jack-of-all trades, and our tour guide for Taveuni's various activities) was warm, interesting and fun. I can't say enough good things about this resort, and the people we met there. Our kids loved it and so did we. My suggestion: if you go to Taveuni, don't pass on this gem.…
To call this special place a "resort" understates the magic of it. It's more like a welcoming visit with one of the most beautiful families you'll ever meet, in a magnificent land. Robin, Julie and Jim have created their own dream life on Taveuni Island and they graciously share their life with you during your stay. The land is beautiful with breathtaking views and thriving life. Every member of the staff beam with warmth an authenticity as they ensure your stay is nourishing and adventurous. The food is incredible with a vast variety of choices - each one a gourmet experience. As you enjoy each meal from the deck overlooking the ocean, Robin, the matriarch of the family, makes you feel well cared for. And the diving... oh the diving. Firstly, Julie, the daughter and owner of the dive company, is one of the most beautiful souls I've ever met. She beams warmth and has a depth to her spirit that effects everyone around her. It's most evident in the wonderful staff and dive crew. Each one of them are charismatic, fun and highly knowledgeable. Underneath the entire experience is the awareness that everyone that works there has a deep love for the coral reefs and a spiritual connection to the ocean. The special feeling you get when diving with this team leaves you with a sense of satisfaction that what you just experienced was a once in a lifetime gift. And then the reefs of Taveuni reveal themselves to you. Truly the best diving in the world. I left this trip deeply considering the idea of leaving my life in the US and returning to stay for good. I really didn't want to leave.…
Not Just going to Fiji, but truly being in Fiji. Went to Nakia on recommendation of a friend. Went with my 14yo son, that same friend and another close friend. Nakia is such a welcomed reminder of how many different ways there are to live a beautiful life. These folks aren't running a resort so much as sharing a slice of paradise, a way of life in a part of the world so stunning it literally brought me to tears. If you are looking for a genuine shift of energies, a remembering of living without exertion, Nakia will take you there. Oh, and better food than any Ritz or 4 Seasons I've been to. Soooo good! The diving experience was also phenomenal. Wonderful hosts with great skill, knowledge and caring. Genuinely no other resort I have personally experienced in the world that I would rate more highly. …
