Bibi's is located on an old plantation, with spacious grounds and just a few cabins spread around. The grounds has lots of fruit trees (referred to in other reviews) but many were damaged during Cyclone Tomas so unfortunately we weren't able to enjoy any fresh fruit. Pauline and her family who run it are extremely hospitable and provide any assistance you need. Pauline helped organise a half-day snorkelling trip with Taveuni Ocean Sports and gave us all the information we needed on getting to Bouma. She is a lovely person and we had some great conversations. My 6 year old cried when we left as she loved the grounds with all the different varieties of hibiscus, bougainvillea and other trees, being able to roam around, and Pauline herself.

We stayed in the family cabin which was roomy and very comfortable. No TV but it wasn't needed with the stunning views through the coconuts across to Vanua Levu. Also no hot water but again not an issue for us as we only needed a quick rinse off after being in the sea. The generator is turned on at 6pm and off at 9pm which is plenty of time for eating dinner, reading, writing etc. There are mosquito nets on all the beds which made for a very comfortable night. We didn't do any cooking while there but the kitchen seemed to have everything you would need. Instead, we relied on the fabulous home-cooked curries provided (for FJD10) by Krish who lives in the small blue house next door. He would come over in the afternoon to ask what you would like for dinner and his lovely wife would then cook it for you. We therefore didn't use any of the local hotels as this was a good, cheap, quality option for dinner for a family. The local shop didn't sell fresh food and the only other options were the rather expensive restaurants at the resorts and hotels nearby in Matei. There was generally a shortage of fresh fruit and veggies and the resorts would be flying these in to service their restaurants, hence the price.

Bibi's is a 5-10 minute walk to a lovely little sandy beach with stunning views across to Vanua Levu. Our daughters (aged 6 and nearly 2) loved playing on this beach and swimming in the very calm water.

Our main reason for visiting Taveuni was to visit the Bouma NP and Tavoro Falls. This was about an hour from Bibi's on the local bus, there are other hotels and resorts located a bit closer and it would have been a bit more comfortable for our kids to not have to travel quite so far, it meant that we ended up not going to the Lavena Coastal Walk as that would have been another day trip. So in terms of location Bibi's is not bad, but it depends on what you are after. It was only a 10 minute walk to the airport, which was definitely a plus.

Overall, I'd really recommend it to anyone on a budget, it was so comfortable you felt right at home and the views are gorgeous.

Ok, So Bibi's Hideaway is more of a "Backpackers" resort than trees swinging in the breeze and white sandy beaches with aqua blue waves crashing on the shore, but what an excellent place to stay when you visit Taveuni.

Totally family owned, the bure's are simple and adequate without the price tag of other places within 500 metres. At FJD$60 for a double you can't go wrong. Limited power (generator 1800-2100 daily) ensures you can extend your light until it is time to sleep. No hot water (not that you need it here anyway) and all the fruit on the property is yours to pick and eat as you want. Choose from Papaya, Pineapple, Banana, Guava, Mango, Cumquat, Oranges, Limes and Lemons.

The guy next door, Chris, introduces himself to the guests and for FJD$8 he will "home deliver" a fijian or indian meal every night that you want him to.

Down the road about 50m is a beach that you can snorkel from in all tides, and the airport is about a ten minute walk up the road. only a handful of flights come and go each day (three i think) and there is minimal traffic noise.

Word of advice, make sure you book before you arrive as Bibi's can be fully booked quite often due to the affordability and serenity of the place and the gardens that surround it.

Bula, Vinaka! We just spent 9 days at Bibi's, having returned after a similar stay last year. There are 2 bures. The "Honeymoon" is one full size bed, all self contained, but no refrigerator. The second is a cottage that can accomodate 4, with 1 double bed and 2 twin, bathroom w/hot water, kitchen w/refrigerator and full size stove w/oven, and of course all crockery and utensils. Fiji is going through a draught so water is not always pressurized as you may be used to. In other words some days it was pail baths and using water bottles left laying in the grass to heat. Regardless of conditions beyond the Bibi's control, you could not ask for better host's! Paulina, Patrick, James and Nate all most generous and gracious hosts.Fresh fruit so plentiful you want to open a fruit stand and sell it for them, but their idea is to just share it. If you're lucky you might even get some of Patrick's fresh lettuce! Be prepared to enjoy all the beauty the Island offers and learn to relax. If you are lucky enough to come to Taveuni, hopefully Bibi's will still be here to show you the beauty of not only the Island but of Fiji's most lovely people with the warmest of hearts that you will cherish forever.

We stayed at Bibi's Hideway quite by accident; our flight back to Nadi was canceled at the last minute, leaving us stranded for an extra night on Taveuni. Thanks to quick thinking and a bit of industry on the part of our driver, Mr. Sukh (a terrific guide if you're ever on Taveuni), we booked an overnight stay at Bibi's without a problem. The cost was quite reasonable, being eighty dollars Fijian, and the amenities really made it a good value.

Bibi's is located about a two minutes from the Taveuni airport and is owned by the nicest people ever. Everyone in Fiji is very friendly, but the folks at Bibi's stood out even by Fijian standards. They welcomed us warmly and went out of their way to make us comfortable.

The bungalow was spacious, well-ventilated, had good screening on the windows, and even came with a fan. A constant breeze blew in off the ocean nearby. While there is power only from 6pm until 10pm each night, that is more than adequate. And, most importantly, the refrigerator was propane-powered which meant we could enjoy cold drinks all day long. The place came with a nice kitchen equipped with a wide sink and a propane stove. There was a sofa, plenty of chairs, and a pleasant porch facing the ocean. The bathroom was clean, tidy, and had hot water. We thought we were in heaven.

As for meals, the family next door was eager to cook for us and the food they prepared was delicious and very reasonably priced at ten dollars Fijian per plate. They would prepare traditional Indian or Fijian dishes upon request. There is also a small grocery nearby where you can purchase snacks and beverages.

Our stay at Bibi's was delightful and we were only sorry we had to leave early the next morning.

Bibi's Hideaway is full of possibilities.
If you want peace and quiet, take a stroll in the big, beautiful garden, pick some delicious fruits (there are bananas, pineaples, lemons, oranges, passionfruites, papaya, coconuts, and more) and make a juice to enjoy at the veranda. If you want more thrill, step outside the garden and into the jungle. There you can find both impressive foliage, big spiders and fresh (hard to break) coconuts.
On the other side of the road you find the beach. It is beautiful with it's white sand and big trees giving some refreshness a warm day, but (belive it or not) it is even more beautiful under the water surface. Me and my family love snorkeling and diving and this place was the fabulous. We saw shark, eagle ray several times, giant clam, astonishing coral "forests" and plenty school of colorful fish. I even saw a lion fish!

Well, to sum this up, Bibi's Hideaway was my dream come true. I went there with my family (I am 21, my brothers where 16 and 18 by then, and my father is 52 ) and we all enjoyed it very much. We lived in the family house for two weeks and we came to feel like home. The family that owns Bibi's Hideaway are wonderful people. I don't want to write about them without having asked them first but I can admit that I think of them almost every day . They made me so happy. They were angels. They gave us advice of daytrips and helpt us get a taxi if we wanted to go somewhere. (I really recommend visiting the waterfalls a bumpy bustrip away from Bibi's)

As you have noticed I have much to write about this "heaven on earth". It's a place I hope to visit again in the future. That time I will rent the Honeymoon bure and look at the fireflies amongst the garden palm trees with my boyfriend.

Maybe it doesnt lay on the beach, bo it's even better, because thanks to this its cheap, and You can walk 5 minutes to the nearest beach! Paulina (the owner) is the best host we've met in whole Fiji, and You know how people there are :)
Professional, friendly, helpful and You will receive free fruits for a welcome gift! :D
Bures are clean, comfy, nice and quiet. Great place for rest, charge batteries, and even spend some more time. Definitely recomend!

Bibi's Hideaway was a hidden gem. We found it through Lonely Planet and managed to book at the last minute. This was not easy as we had to book through an agent in Australia and booking ahead would have been better.
The Bures are lovely, very simple and basic, but that really doesn't matter as Paulina goes to so much trouble to make them look lovely and is very helpful. The grounds are spectacular and the beach close by.
If you can manage without hot water and electric only for a few hours each evening then this is the place to stay.

We stayed here for almost a week and really fell in love with the place. It was a nice quiet place with an amazing garden at your disposal. The free fruit was good but some fruit were out of season. The rOoms were good but we had ants everywhere even when we try to hide the food they got to it. The place is well worth a visit but we had a bad experience as the owner told us that we had to leave as he had double booked the cottage and the other people were coming the next day so we had to leave and the owner wasn't very apologetic when he told us.

Can't say enough how much my fiance and i loved the place, food, and especially the family. Patrick's dinner he cooked nightly was amazing! Watching the sunset from our bure veranda was unforgettable. It is close to the aiport in Taveuni which is ideal because it takes hours to travel to the other side of the island. But remember if you don't like the odd bug or gecko,semi-warm showers, and limited electricity (7pm-10pm) then go to a fancy pants resort. The grounds are covered with papaya, banana and other fruits which are free for all to pick. The beach is a 5-10 min walk (depending on which you choose) but who cares you're in fiji. The family dogs are priceless too, i had a dog the entire week haha. If you want to experience true Fiji food and lifestyle with people who love their island. Then the Bibi family is truly remarkable. Price is reasonable and a small grocery store next place over to buy essentials. And the island bus which goes by twice a day is the best way to travel to the waterfall and other attractions. Cause if you go to fiji the locals are the nicest so far on our world tour bar none. Thank you Bibi family, you definately left an impression, and it was a good one. Say hi to the locals, wave whenever you can, they don't bite! It's considered impolite to walk by a Fijian without acknowledging them. Remember you are a visitor.

We spent 2 nights at Bibi's. We got the family Bure with living room and nice kitchen. Everything was very very clean. The kitchen was well equipped (even with gas stove and fridge) and we did our first cooking on Fiji, that was great fun. We had a nice shady terrace at the back of the little house.
the garden is well kept, and you can eat all the fruits in it (in case you find any - of you don't find fruits, the owner provides you now and then with some nice papaya.... ;-).
It is great to be away from the road and the rather snobby atmosphere of Matei.
We had great conversations with the people working there and with the other guests.
The price is quit high: 110 $ (Fiji Dollar) without breakfast, but it still was worth the money.
