Galapagos is famous for its volcanic landscapes and unique wildlife, but it can also be somewhere for you to rediscover your true and unique nature, somewhere you can feel yourself again... We are so glad that we didn’t choose to stay in town! We loved being in the interior of the island. The grounds were beautiful and the atmosphere relaxing and exciting at the same time. The food was incredible—coconut curry shrimp dinner was the best meal we had on the island. Cattya was warm, welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable. The drive to town was a nonissue for my family and well worth staying in this unique hotel. Highly recommend!!! I hope to be able to return one day.

We stayed here in February 2020. The location is the best: the Semilla Verde is in a quiet rural area in the central highlands, which is cooler and wetter (most days cloudy, most nights it rained) than Puerto Ayora on the coast (sunny, hot and dry). The hotel is surrounded by lush green vegetation. Giant tortoises roam the property freely, grazing on the grass and fallen fruits. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with modern bathroom fixtures. The room had an air conditioner, though most nights we did not need to use it. WiFi was very good. Service was excellent. The maid tidied the room twice daily, once in the morning, and again in the evening while we were at dinner. Food was very good: like home cooking, and they accommodated our dietary restrictions. We booked the 6-night package with room, most meals, four guided day tours, and transfers to and from the Baltra (GPS) airport. The tours were excellent: on time, delivered as promised, knowledgeable guides. The concierge, Cattya, was very knowledgeable and capable, full of of suggestions for activities, kept our schedule organized, and she was helpful to the very end: when I left a backpack in the taxi on the way to the airport she contacted the driver and had it delivered to me at the airport before my flight departed. I'm impressed!

Soon after our arrival we were greeted by the most wonderful and kind hostess, Shania. Our bags were sanitized and brought to our room while we were given a welcome drink and a rundown of the property. The room was immaculate and the view from the balcony was stunning. The shower had great water quality and they even provided disposable masks and sanitizer in the bathroom for our use. If you choose to, they will wash your clothes as well for a small fee. Towels and room were cleaned daily, and the AC was incredible. The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept like babies every night .The property itself is beautiful, and walking the trails is a must do! Sabah the property dog is a complete gem, and will even guide you on the trails (and even lick your face). There are several giant tortoises on the property, which is super cool to see. Breakfast was provided and was absolutely delicious. The staff are incredibly friendly and always willing to help with anything. We had dinner twice at the hotel, and those were the best meals we had during our time in Santa Cruz. Home cooked, mouthwatering, and delicious. Going to the main town is only a $7 taxi ride, the staff will call one for you no problem, and it is easy to flag down a cab to return back to the hotel. It is a 20 minute ride to town, but don't let that stop you, the hotel is more than worth the short ride. The best part is returning at night and looking up at the night sky. It is breathtaking. You can see so many stars, and you can even see the Milky Way cloud. This is a view you don't get in town because of the light pollution. The property itself is great, but the staff (especially our hostess Shania) went above and beyond to make our stay in a hotel feel like home. We wouldn't stay in any other place in Santa Cruz!

To the staff, thank you for giving us an experience that we'll never forget!

Dear Maxine, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your experience in the midst of this global pandemic. Semilla Verde was originally built for friends and family to enjoy quality, intimate time together. We stuck to that original philosophy through our transition over the last thirteen years from guest house to lodge to hotel. And now couples, families and groups including yoga can enjoy that same homely feeling, in a private and natural environment that has the touch, taste and feel of an authentic Galapagos Islands boutique lodging. Rest assured all the necessary hygiene and protocols are in place, and the adult population of Galapagos has now been vaccinated with the Pfizer jab. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Robert, Shania & the SV Team.

My husband and I stayed for three nights at Semilla Verde and had an amazing time! At first, we debated staying at this hotel, because it’s located in the highlands, away from the main town of Puerto Ayora, but upon arriving, we knew immediately we had made the right decision. Because it was outside of the town, it felt more like a vacation – which is what we were looking for. We loved the quiet, sounds of nature, and loved sitting on our patio watching the wildlife that was literally outside our door! That in itself is a reason to stay at this quaint hotel. The giant tortoises roam the grounds, even walking straight up to us when we were relaxing on our patio one evening.

The ride to town takes about 10 minutes or so, and costs a reasonable $7 one way. The hotel staff sets up the rides for you, so you don’t have to stress or worry about that. Speaking of the staff, they are one of the reasons this place was so special and memorable. We met Cattya, upon check-in, and she went out of her way to help us personally. She helped us plan our days, giving us tips and advice, and restaurant recommendations that were deemed safe and wouldn’t get us sick in town.

The hotel is divided into two main buildings. We booked a standard room, and were located on the ground floor. The room itself was incredibly clean, the staff came around twice a day to tidy up our room when we were gone on our adventures. The building we stayed in had a living room and kitchen on the main floor, where guests are free to come and go and use all the facilities. We had bought pizza in town for lunch one day, and told Cattya we planned to eat the leftovers for dinner one evening. When we came down to the dining area later that night, we were surprised to see that the staff had set up a table with plates, silverware, glasses, etc. just for us and supplies to reheat our food in the oven! Every step the staff took was so carefully thought out.

Lastly, we had breakfast every day at the hotel and one dinner. The breakfast was pretty standard with two rolls, cereal, yogurt, and eggs to order. We wished there was a little more variety or choices, but since it was included in the price, we don’t want to be too picky. For dinner, it’s a set menu. We had told the staff our dietary restrictions, and they worked to come up with something that would appeal to both me and my husband. We had a delicious three course meal, made of carrot soup, chicken and rice, and cake for dessert. We were the only ones eating dinner that evening at the hotel, so we had a candlelight dinner just the two of us.

The Semilla Verde helped to make our Galapagos trip even more special, and we would not hesitate to return again!

Cattya is a great host, very attentive and responsive Breakfast was delicious Turn down service was offered daily The location is far from the beach (7$ cab ride each way), in the midst of the greenery of highland was what we were looking for. My children enjoy the small pool There were tortoises on the property so one can closely observe them without having to do a specific tour elsewhere for it. Wandering around this vast property on its own walking trails was very relaxing and enjoyable.

From my first email with Robert, to the time I checked out, nothing couldn't have been more smooth and perfect! Robert, who is the owner and property manager, was really quick to respond to my room and tour request. He was very thorough, professional, and with an extreme attention to detail.

We landed at the Batra Airport, and we're promptly greeted by Juan, who works as the transportation specialist for Semilla Verde. He had a sign with our name on it, and directed us to the bus, that took us to the ferry, and then onto the truck, where he drove us straight to the property. From the time we exited the airport, to our arrival there, it was roughly one hour.

Once we arrived there, the current property Manager Kim, was very welcoming, and showed us around the property. Everything there felt like we were on a movie set, as the setting us just spectacular! The fact that there are dozens of large Tortoise roaming around the property, just add to this magical experience we received there.

Since we were theconly guests there due to covid, we had the entire resort to ourselves! So when it came down on choosing our room, it came down to between room 1, and room 9. Both are in separate buildings alone on the top floor, and both have very different perks. Room 1 had the unobstructed views of the horizon, with many giant Tortoise roaming in front of us. Room 9 has an giant bathroom with a jettub, and a large king size bed. It is also more modern, as it is in the newest building. We opted for room 9, as my wife liked the nicer set up, but I would've been happy with room 1 as well.

Breakfasts every morning, and the lunch on arrival we had there was absolutely delicious each time. Our chef Gladys truly cooked some outstanding local dishes, as Everything was so fresh and hand picked each day. My wife loved their coffee, and the cool thing about it, is that they grow it right here on property! There's also a nice pool, a yoga studio overlooking the small pond with once again, giant Tortoise roaming around in there.

We even had the Robert book multiple day tours for us, which each was well priced, with some outstanding tour guides. On arrival, Duncan took us on an amazing island tour nearby, where we got up close and personal with the Giant Tortoises! He was so friendly, knowledgeable, and very passionate about his work. I highly recommend asking for him for your local tour of Santa Cruz. Then on our other 2 excursions, we had the pleasure to have Alejandro as our tour guide. Once again, friendly, professional, and with some awesome commentaries throughout each excursions!

This is definitely one of the most amazing trip my wife and I ever took, and it wouldn't have been possible without thr amazing team Robert had assembled there. Kim, Juan, Gladys, Bertha, and our favorite yellow Labrador Sava, made us feel welcomed, and right at home. There's no way I would ever stay anywhere else on my trip to the Galapagos. Mucha Gracias to the entire team for such an incredible stay in your beautiful slice of paradise...

Dear Steve, Thanks so much for a thorough review of your entire experience, from organizing the trip to its successful completion. For anyone considering a visit to the islands, a hotel-tour package, like the one Steve chose, is by far the most popular choice amongst our guests. As the owner of the hotel, and a qualified Galapagos National Park guide, I have formulated these bundles to offer you the broadest, most comprehensive experience of the islands wildlife and landscapes in a short visit. They are a one stop solution, meaning you don't have to worry about what hotel, what tours to do and how to go about booking them; we'll handle all of those details with you, and for you. Simple. Generally, our guests choose between the five and seven night packages, but they are fully flexible and we can keep you busy with exciting tours and suggestions for self guided activities for stays between two and fourteen nights. Our guides will give you a complete introduction to the islands and we hope you leave with a much better understanding of how the islands were formed all the way through to Darwin's Theory of Evolution. Also, a much great appreciation for the natural world. If you are desperate to getaway and are wondering if Galapagos is possible with so many travel restrictions, then with a little preparation, it is entirely possible. You must have a negative pcr test within 72 hours prior to arrival in the archipelago. And if you are returning to the US or Europe, in most cases you will require a negative pcr test within the 72 hours prior to your return. The authorities in Galapagos are already able to process pcr tests, and are in the process of facilitating service for tourists; this should be online very shortly. In the meantime, we have already made contact with hotels and clinics on mainland Ecuador so that it can be completed prior to your departure from Ecuador. If you have any general questions about Galapagos or specific questions regarding Covid protocols, please feel free to contact me via the hotel email, telephone o WhatsApp. We're ready for your visit, and looking forward to welcoming you to the magical Galapagos islands very soon! Warm regards, Robert & the SV Team.

Robert and Cattya are gracious hosts who take care of every little detail so you can focus on taking in the splendor of Galapagos. Returning to Semilla Verde after a day of excursions feels like coming home... if you live in a spa... and your family treats you like royalty.

The yoga studio overlooks a small pond where you can watch giant tortoises cool off and exotic birds splashing around as they sing. Every room has a unique view of the lush grounds, where there are several km of beautiful walking trails. Cute little geckos stick to the windows at night and keep the place free from bugs. Frogs sing you to sleep at night and roosters call you to breakfast in the morning.

The food is local, fresh, organic, and delicious. Every morning you will be greeted with fresh-squeezed fruit juice, coffee grown on the property, rolls warm from the oven, farm fresh eggs...it's a dream.

I can't recommend Semilla Verde highly enough! This was our first time staying here, but I am certain it won't be our last :)

I loved everything about my stay at Semilla Verde. In fact I loved it so much that after staying 4 days I decided to extend my stay once back from a boat trip 7 days later. The spacious and comfortable rooms are located in two large houses, with plenty of space for relaxing alone or making friends with other guests around a drink or a cup of tea. Fresh drinking water, juices and teas are available all the time. The lush garden of trees and bushes that surrounds the two houses has a small pond and a swimming pool. You can walk around the entire property in the company of giant tortoises and a variety of birds. You will feel like a guest staying at a friend's house thanks to the care and attention of Cattya, the manager, and her team. Cattya is very friendly and professional, she will make you feel looked after and pampered and she will provide excellent advice for your excursions and trips around the island/s. Fresh meals are cooked every day by the team and served in the main lounge room at large tables. I really enjoyed sitting with other guests and exchanging experiences and addresses! I stayed in two different rooms, they were both lovely, had very comfortable beds and facilities, in fact they both felt like small apartments with beautiful balcony / terrace with chairs and a hammock to enjoy the view and the breeze. But I loved room 1 for its views, so if you have the opportunity to select that room I really recommend it! Semilla Verde is on the hill around BellaVista, not by the beach / Puerto Ayora. It's about 15 mins drive by taxi to Puerto Ayora, but there is an abundance of taxis at all times and it is super safe in the island so that is not a problem. In fact, you can enjoy the cooler temperature, the sound of nature and the view at Semilla Verde and then go to the beach by taxi to Puerto Ayora (to catch a boat to go to Playa de los Alemanos or to Tortuga Bay) or to El Garrpatero which is a beautiful beach not too far from the lodge. You can agree with the taxi driver to pick you up at a given time, it is custom over here so not stress. I really recommend Semilla Verde, you will feel at home away from home and maybe it will make you feel like extending your stay as it happened to me!

My family (my wife and I and three adult children) visited Semilla Verde in late December. It was an exceptional experience. The views from the room were fantastic. The estate ground were beautiful and populated with a number of tortoises that found the property as appealing as we did. We found that their steps to insure cleanliness of the lodgings and safety from Covid were excellent and worked for all members of our family. The location is located well between the two major departure areas for boat trips to the other islands. The staff was wonderful and helpful with all of our planning and dietary needs. I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in being removed from the activities of being in town but still close enough to take a quick taxi.

Dear mc2galt, It was our absolute pleasure to welcome a family of such intrepid travelers to the hotel over the festive season! We're all so happy that you enjoyed the hotel and the grounds, so thank you again for choosing Semilla Verde for your Galapagos vacation. The tortoises are just incredible and we are very lucky that they choose the estate on which to spend so much of the year. Many people assume they are fenced in, but that is not the case. They come and go of their own accord attracted by large areas of grass on which they graze, shade from the equatorial sun, and of course, the rainwater ponds. We have reforested the 5 hectares/12 acres of sloping, south facing land with the original Scalesia pedunculata (Daisy tree) that once covered these fertile higher grounds. We grow our own organic, shadegrown coffee that we serve to our guests, and have created a mile of nature trails so that our guests can walk around the property and observe the tortoises, birdlife and vegetation. The hotel buildings are positioned at the highest points of the property and so offer spectacular panoramic views over the forest, national park and ocean to Floreana Island. As you mentioned, Semilla Verde is located between the airport/departure points for tours to outlying islands and Puerto Ayora, the main town on Santa Cruz Island. This prime position means that it is easy and convenient to escape the usual bustle and escape to a private refuge in the hills. Also, it means that you are almost the last on the tour bus rounds and so you have an extra 1/2 hour in bed or relax, take breakfast and enjoy a cup of our coffee whilst you watch the tortoises! We have always been very careful to maintain the property clean and hygienic, but especially so now, with the pandemic. All our staff have received specific training and we have implemented all the necessary protocols to ensure a safe visit, including social distanced dining and hygiene stations. Anyone who is considering a visit may contact the hotel directly via the website or email or WhatSapp. We're here to help you plan and execute a perfect adventure-vacation in the Galapagos Islands. Our very warmest regards, Robert & the SV Team.

For a boutique property (9 total rooms I believe), the amenities and service are outstanding. Communication in advance of your visit is excellent. Arrive with a smile from Cattya who manages the property so well, and she also functions like a personal concierge offering to make various reservations, taxi calls, and educate you on the best places to visit and dine.

Rooms are well appointed, we were upgraded to top floor of the main house, room 9, which has a fantastic view all around. The smaller lower level rooms in the Finch House are nice too with a hammock and walk out straight to the tortoises; but we definitely enjoyed the upgrade. The wood finishes are a little more island-rustic than a resort hotel, but that is part of the charm.

Plenty of spots to lounge outside your room too. The classic jazz playing in the main living/dining areas, the yoga/workout bungalow, the wrap-around porches with hammocks, the short hiking trails to watch tortoises...

Food at the hotel was better than most of the restaurants in town. Super fresh fish, fruits, juices, veggies; and no worries about intestinal issues whatsoever.

We were glad we decided to stay away from the town bustle, and it is just a 20 min taxi to everything.

On our last night we dined at the best hotel, the Finch Bay, and walked the property. That place is beautiful as well, situated on a private point closer to town, and much bigger of course, handling National Geographic tours. We would have stayed there if not at SV; the new wing and pool is gorgeous and modern. The service there was not as consistent however, at least for our dinner; which is part of the trade-off for size and predictability.

It is not the Ritz Carlton so don't expect that. But if you are open to a unique, quiet, relaxing experience with personal attention that you won't find at the larger hotels, book Semilla Verde. From a typically critical luxury traveler, that is high praise; it was well earned!

Dear Steven, Thank you for choosing Semilla Verde Boutique Hotel. The hotel can organize a private transfer for up to four people for $60- e/w. That includes a driver who will be doing an almost 100km round trip from Puerto Ayora to pick you up at the airport. He will personally escort and will take charge of your bags from the airport, transferring them between the bus, ferry and taxi to the hotel. This whole process takes just over an hour from when you leave the airport. However, if you are happy to negotiate it yourselves (beware, it can be rather overwhelming with so many other people doing the same), then you can do so for about half the price. After passing through customs you will need to wait about 30 minutes in the airport whilst the bags are offloaded, then take a 15 minute free bus ride from the airport to ‘Itabaca Canal’ that will take you to Santa Cruz Island via ferry. This crossing takes 10 minutes and will cost $1 per person. Once on the other side of the canal, take a taxi or bus to “Hotel Semilla Verde”. There is a small signpost outside the property on the main road. Take a right turn down the track and the entrance is 200 metres down on the right hand side. The taxi will cost you $25 and drop you directly at the hotel (highly recommended). The bus will cost around $3- per person but will leave you on the main road and you will have to lug your bags down the driveway. There is no car hire on the islands. Rather, the taxis are the usual mode of transport and cost just $1.50/trip within the town limits / $7 e/w from the hotel to Puerto Ayora. I hope this information is of use. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Warm regards, Robert.

"Semilla Verde and most restaurants, etc take credit cards. We were not able to get our ATMs to work in the Galapagos--bring small bills!"
