The place obviously has deterriorated since it was opne for the Asia Forum. The gardens and hot springs need much more attention. The exteriors is peeling and rusty.
Club lounge has nothing to offer and works on a dunious schedule. Problematic check in becasue of failing connection to get the American express card though. Smoking permiates most eating areas and smoke free environement is of no cencern to the hotel. Advertised French amenities are just not there. No attention to detail whatsoever.
This is a good place for large Chinese groups traveling on a deeply discounted rates to attend a meeting. Overall, this is the Soviet Union meeting Communist China French style. Stay away!

Stayed here while speaking at a forum conference. My non-smoking room was lovely--open concept design with a balcony and an at-an-angle sea view. It was sparkling clean BUT smelled quite musty. (I get asthma so even considered wearing a mask while in the room). The hotel realizes that they are overdue for a remodel and construction was happening at a furious pace (to be ready for the big March forum that takes place there annually). Bulldozers were just below my room tearing up one of the big reflecting pools at the hotel entrance, and the big kids pool appeared to be shut down for rennovations, as well. Only one of the elevators in my wing worked, as the other was under repair, slowing down movement. There was also drilling and hammering from about 8:30 until after 9PM each night. I was going to bed late and getting up early, so it did not matter too much to me, though it made for less that restful work time in the room. that said, the grounds of this hotel are lovely, and the Forum conference facility adjoins the hotel and it top notch. Afte the remodel and upgrade, I think things will be much better. If you are going for a conference, you'll be fine after March. If you are looking for a resort, I'd recommend you avoid this area (it is isolated--a gated island off an island) and there is really not much to do other than use the hotel facilities. To get to a beach, you need to take a boat. And the town of Boao is several miles away. I'd recommend basing yourself at Sanya instead...much more for tourists to do on that end of the island.

Very good breakfast. Very spacious and clean room (we upgraded to the deluxe sea view room). Used to be a Sofitel so the semi-private bathroom (bedroom and bathroom separated by a curtain) may not be for everyone. Overall a much nicer place than the Boao Statehouse. Little spoken English lead to a confusion when checking out, but more the fault of Agoda booking. One of the best beds. Firm with a pillow top. Wifi slow. Attractive looking pool but did not have time to use it.

This used to be a nice Sofitel property but now it is taken over by poor management, in our opinion. Since it is located on an island, it is difficult to get in and out. And the entrance to this island now collects tolls from people who do not stay at this hotel, it is problematic each time we take a private car or taxi back to the hotel from outside of the island. We'd have to show credentials or the driver is given a voucher and we must take the voucher to the front desk for validation and give back to the driver otherwise the driver could be on the hook for toll charges when he or she exits the island. Overall service of the hotel is mediocre at best. The bell desk is more interested in making a commission off of a taxi you'd otherwise need to summon because normally empty taxis don't come to this hotel to avoid paying a toll. Rooms are also dated and definitely need to be touched up or completely renovated. Additionally, at the high speed rail station, there are these taxi cabs waiting to rip you off and usually would try to grab your luggage and force you into their vehicles so they could charge you an arm, a leg and perhaps some other body parts. Overall, this is not a place we plan on visiting again in the future. The overall experience is just not desirable.

Noisy, dirty rooms, the waiters are not polite, golf caddies playing golf, always....you feel like an alien and they always check you.....waiters with a very bad english but kind, hainan staff with no culture and good manners. Place was beautiful except the most important: the golf course, full of stinky water, with bad grass, not well playable. We asked the manager of golf practice to repair some very dangerous roof metal parts falling down and many ground holes (see real photo) made by their own caddies! Thei call it INTERNATIONAL, but with no education staff and very poor English, is not a five star hotel to go.

I stayed for 6 nights for business meetings including a very boaring weekend. I was surprised that there is no beach and unfortunately the weather was rainy and windy . There is nothing around within walking distance and Bo'ao is a 15-20 minute taxi ride.

Jade Belt is an island across the river. You can take a 59RMB boat ride to the island to put your feet in the sand. It's a crazy place with fruit stalls and mopeds. No chance to relax on the beach so don't get your hopes up.

The room I stayed in was RMB 3000 per night (The Jade Belt Suite). It was a beautiful room but the service was strange. In a hurry, I left glasses and bathroom towels on the balcony and they wouldn't touch them. And they didn't straighten the bathroom. It was like they were told "don't touch anything". I know I shouldn't say anything negative about such a beautiful room but it was really odd.

One restaurant was buffet style and the other was ala carte. The food was fantastics but the same every day. There is a cigar bar on the 2nd floor and my collegues said the selection was extensive and inexpensive. The 2nd floor bar is elegant and cocktails ranged from 50-90rmb.

If you are in Bo'ao for a business meeting, this would be the place to stay. BTW - Bo'ao looks like it has a lot to offer and I hope to spend personal time to explore. While I was wondering around, I bumped into a woman who owns a B&B in town. We were both surprised to see a "foreigner" and had a great talk. She owns the Boao Inn B&B. I haven't stayed there but it looks interesting and I plan to go back with my husband sometime.

This hotel is just beautiful and very clean. The staff is friendly and speak good english. The rooms are very spacious and the beds are very comfortable. The breakfast included is outstanding with just about every type of Asian and Western breakfast item you can imagine. The made-to-order eggs were great! Since we were traveling with small children we were not able to go to the Habana Club in the hotel, but did stop by and take a look. It appeared to be a fun place for Latin dancing with live music. The only drawback for our family was the option for room type. There were no rooms with two double beds. There version of double beds are two single size beds. We ended up with a king room. Our two year old slept with us since the bed was big enough, and we fashioned a small bed for our five year old from the sitting chair/ottoman and extra bedding. We did have two other members in our group and were able to have two rooms next to each other, so that was very helpful. Overall this is a fantastic hotel for the price and highly recommended.

We stayed at this Hotel for 4 nights, and had a very relaxing stay. We experienced great service and there was enough staff who had good English which always helps. It was quieter the week we were there, but that was nice as we had come to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We had a fab room with views of the sea, pools and gardens and great sized room as we have a busy 2 year old, and they were very clean and great bedding and a luxury bathroom. The location is away from it all which we liked so if you love lots of action not so good, but they have Fab restuarants and a couple of bars, also plenty to do at there leisure centre, we enjoyed relaxing in the Hot Springs and pools. The best part was the Hot Springs and Fab food very good, also the service. The least would be having to pay to go over to the beach by Ferry as thats the only option, and it's not that cheap as there wasn't a beach directly on the Hotel site which we thought there was, not a big deal we just didn't go to the beach as when you get there you would have no seat or amenities. Overall we enjoyed it.

Exceptional place for resort, getaway, vacation and sunshine. Went in a little bit breezy autumn/winter weather, but the view and sunshine are still fascinating. Not crowded in the open area, despite the conference room being packed. People are usually simply there for conference but not vacation. The Jap/Korean food restaurant there is fine too, but forget about the room service.

The nearest airport is 1.5 hour's Hainan Haikou airport, but heard that a new airport in Boao (nearby) will be opened real soon, end of the year, or early 2017, so it will be another plus.

Hotel rooms are very good and the hotel is good for a business venue. Staff speak minimal English; it took about 5 members of staff to realise that I wanted an iron!
Relatively isolated. Hot water pools are excellent and so is the spa.
