We loved the airy lobby imbued with understated luxury. Bell boys were consistently warm and helpful. The hardworking young gentleman at the noodle station of the breakfast buffet deserved special recognition. In contrast, check-in staff was aloof; not rude, but not welcoming either. We booked a "mountain view" room but was given a room facing a wall. Although the issue was rectified when I called, the switching of rooms took at least half an hour at 11 PM when we were exhausted from our long haul flight, and could have been entirely avoided had the front desk been more attentive. Also, I emailed the hotel using the online contact form prior to our arrival but never got a response. While I was lounging on the outdoor patio on one of the deck chairs, the deep seat combined with my relatively short legs caused my feet to touch the seat cushion. A staff member materialized to scold me for it, and was not nice. There was no signage for such a rule, and c'mon, this is patio furniture we are talking about! The room felt slightly dated, but was more spacious than expected. Our request for a late checkout was accommodated. The room rate included breakfast buffet and the up charge was very reasonable given the wide and delicious selection. I debated between giving a 3 and 4, but ended up with a 4 because our overall experience was positive. Management needs to train certain staff to be more polite toward guests. Only after that is accomplished will this JW be up to the brand's standard.

My wife and I had the pleasure to stay at this property during our trip to China in Mid December 2019 to celebrate my birthday.

The staff was amazing in assisting us and upgrading us to a beautiful 1 bedroom suite overlooking the ocean with a huge 2 part balcony.

I want to specifically thank the management team for making our stay a memorable one. I also want to thank the restaurant & lounge staff for making sure that what i was eating was safe due to my severe peanut allergy.

The hotel was very clean & spacious. It has a pool that is shared with the other nearby Marriott property which is private for guests only and has a beautiful ocean view.
The breakfast was a large buffet style with something for everyone.

The location was right on the beach and boardwalk just steps away from the town and nightlife of Sanya.

I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a affordable luxury hotel in Sanya and would happily stay there again hopefully in the not so distant future.

Thanks again and a special thanks to Eva the rooms director for making sure everything was top notch for us during our stay.

Visited during the Chinese National holiday and very happy to stay as it’s a little quieter and away from the crazy beach. Staff, room, food and the pool were amazing. You can swim in the ocean nearby.
Only complaint I have is the very much overpriced pool and room service menu.
128 cny for a burger is crazy!
50 cny for a local beer!!
All good as this forced us to eat out and order in food delivered to hotel. I noticed many people delivering food, hotel management should take this seriously with the over priced food.
Besides the food price, this hotel is amazing.

I was hesitant staying here given the reviews but gave the hotel the benefit of the doubt due to the very good price they had available.

Let me try and make this simple with some bullet points on the good and not so good:

Pros:

Room decor despite other reviews seems ok. West wing is older than the east wing

Location to many restaurants and bars on the beach is convenient

Huge...and I mean HUGE pool (despite very cold)

Great view from the room (though make sure they allocate you the right type!)

Cons:

Waiting for four hours for my room to be ready. Only to be put into a room with a view of A/C and little ocean view despite it being a “premium ocean view”. After calling front desk they rectified after one hour and apologized, however this was not off to a great start.

Executive lounge....well this was like a zoo, nothing executive or club like. Most of the dishes were empty the entire night. Not the hotels fault but seemed many of the guests had not eaten for days!?

Wine quality in the lounge is very, very bad. Two types of cheap Chardonnay, red wine and cheap spirits.

No turn down service, despite repeated requests. I don’t believe they offer here

45-60 minutes is too long for room service

Staying at many 5 star resorts, this does not live up to the JW name and should have stayed a Marriott.

No breakfast or lunch in the lounge

In summary this would not be my choice of hotels in Sanya, however if you are looking for a good location, beach activities and don’t care too much about the hotel itself you might want to consider this.

The JW Marriott Sanya is a huge hotel with nice rooms, lobby, swimming pool, fitness center, and restaurants. While the building is nice, the management and service at this hotel is not five-star quality and is the worst service I have experienced at a JW Marriott Hotel.

When I checked in, I was not greeted at all, and the girl at the front desk continually looked unhappy while checking me in. The check in process was chaotic as there were many guests cutting in line.

The executive lounge was a chaotic experience with several misbehaved children, adults listening to TV shows/DouYin without a headset, and guests camping out for hours waiting for their midnight flights. The staff in the lounge did not refresh or refill the food regularly during afternoon tea and during dinner. But the most appalling was how dirty the lounge was. Lounge staff raked trash/debris from the tables onto the floor when "cleaning" up after a guest. The only toilet in the lounge was also filthy (one night there was vomit on the rim of the toilet). Housekeeping would come to refill the towels, but did not clean the toilet or the floor. The hotel only offered a few liquors, and it was odd that they don't offer vodka. Only one sweet red wine was offered and no sparkling wine was available. Definitely substandard to what you get at other JW Marriotts. Perhaps the oddest thing in the lounge is that Coke Zero was kept in the back room and the only way to get one was to ask a staff member. Very odd.

Absolutely horrifying experience.

As a Titanium member who booked in advance.
I was given an accessible room(which I did not request)with serious hygiene problems after 30mins wait at the front desk.

Then I was given another room with the same hygiene problem! after request a room switch), I have stayed in the hotels for 2 nights, and they had never cleaned it!

The welcome fruit they give had already gone bad, and the mini bar which they offer as a substitution for the closed lounge is empty.

As I got no response from the hotel team, I called Marriott. Then the hotel got back to me after I check out and offer me a buffet (which wont' be available as had already checked out) and a
next-time upgrade (as I'm a Titanium member, shouldn't i expect a room upgrade in usual times? )as compensation.

I can't accept their solution, and I get back to Marriott again. However, I wasn't given a proper apology after all. All they did is asking the manager on duty to call me (who insists she had no power to give any compensation). Whom at the very beginning said they won'tbe able to give any compensation the form of Marriott points, but at the very end said that they could offer 1w point's when I require 25000(which is the points enough to redeem one night while I have stayed for two nights).

然后我在要求换房后又遇到了另一个卫生问题的房间!我在酒店住了2晚,他们从来没有打扫干净过!
他们提供的受欢迎的水果已经变质了,他们提供的迷你酒吧代替酒廊,但却是空的。

由于没有收到酒店团队的回复,我给万豪打了电话。然后,酒店在我退房后回复给我,可以我提供自助餐(因为我已经退房,因此无法使用)和下次升级(因为我是钛金会员,所以我不应该期望通常情况下升级房间?)作为补偿。

我无法接受他们的解决方案,然后我再次打给万豪。但是,我没有得到适当的道歉。他们所做的只是要求值班经理给我打电话(后者坚持认为她无权给予任何补偿)。她一开始说他们将无法以万豪积分的形式提供任何补偿,但最后当我说需要25000时,他们可以提供1w点的积分(这是足够兑换一晚的积分)我已经住了两晚)。实在是难以接受的服务和态度

After staying with Ritz Carlton, St. Regis, EDITION, Autograph Collection in Sanya, the JW Marriot in Dadonghai is definetely ridiculusly the worst. As an loyal Platiunm member of Marriot Bonvey, I did not ask for any specail treat, but before check in, the reception let me wait for half an hour and totally forget my wife and I. I have to check five times if there are any vacent for me to check in. The room is low rise and at the end of corridor, which is rare happened, but I can accept. The room is at the most west part of the building and it is really hot, which drive me crazy. Additionally, the room is smoking room and the smells make my wife feel not good. I was asking for a non-smoking room, but they have no response.
I think it might be the last choice for me to stay in Sanya and for god sake, please improve your service and treat your members nicer.

The staff work very hard to make your stay pleasant. The hotel is at the end of the road surrounded by the beach and a hill. It is very clean. The rooms a good to stay in usual with other hotels we have stayed in. The breakfast was interesting geared more to Chinese people rather than western person. The pool is good ,very big, the water was very hot and I found it difficult to swim in, but great just relaxing, it does need a bit more shade areas. I liked that a lifeguard told a parent off for leaving their very young child on their own so she go off and have a swim on her own (shocking parenting). Great access to the local shops, beach front restaurants.

Would I stay again yes. I would look at the executive package

Been JW Marriott many times and this stay was as good as ever.
Bonvoy platinum upgraded as normal without issue to executive floor 787 with nice ocean view and fair sized room with good facilities in it and nice balcony area.
The grounds are well kept and held a wedding during our stay.
Stayed a week before National holiday and was quieter than expected.
The large outdoor swimming pool had 2 lifeguards which was most reassuring about attitudes to our safety.
Restaurant breakfast food was good with nice options.
Maggie and her team in the executive lounge have improved food and drinks options since our last stay. Most excellent
The duty manager Hao responded immediately to an issue we had and was quickly resolved.
We are lucky speaking both English and Chinese so do not have issues as other people refer too.

The hotel is lovely, the pools are great and the staff very helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet was excellent.

The views of the bay from the pool are excellent and there are plenty of sun loungers and shady places to relax.

For a hotel of this type of resort there were something that just lacked attention to detail - when I checked in there was a pack of old food in the fridge. The staff at reception change my room straight and were helpful.
When ordering drinks in the lounge there were lots of win offerings on the menu but not in stock, which took a while to figure out. Service was generally slow in the restaurant. Rooms don't have USB plugs so take your own.

No entertainment. The boardwalk offers a lot, but it is a stretch for people who may not be able to walk very far. The hotel is lovely, but again, everything is a long walk even within the resort. Good luck. Not sure I would stay anywhere else in the region.
