The hotel looks impressive, but rooms are fairly basic and there are limited dining options (especially at lunchtime). The hotel caters mainly to Chinese clientele, so expect the usual Chinese hotel issues - although our bed was soft thankfully! There are 2 lovely pools and a great view....however there is constantly people taking wedding photographs around the pool which is very annoying and they will ask you to move if you are in their shot (even though you are a paying guest!). Location is close to the centre of Sanya and we had a really enjoyable trip. We got a good deal on the hotel, so do not regret staying here - but don't expect 4/5 star luxury as they state!

I love the architecture of the five spectacular buildings located on Phoenix Island. The word-producers who add words to dictionaries should come up with more superlatives so that we can better describe the ever-growing number of amazing structures being built in China. Although since 2005, I have been coming to China multiple times per year, I continue to be amazed how quickly China has become the world leader in so many things, including architecture and resort properties. Phoenix Island Resort Sanya is outstandingly amazing in many ways, including awesome architecture, great views, excellent and attentive service, and wonderful ambiance.

Hotel is as many have described, situated on a reclaimed Island, linked only to the main island by a causeway. The cruise terminal is also on the island where the hotel is, so maybe it will be convenient for people catching a cruise out. However as of present, very little cruises does their embarkations at Sanya though the Sanya authorities are massively reclaiming and building to expand and enhance the cruise terminal.

There's four towers at the resort, but you can see that only at most 2 of the towers are in operations. I learnt that there is not much business yet and also it is the most expensive hotel in Sanya at the moment.

Room was very much resort style, and there's a bathtub at the balcony though I thoughts it's quite silly as there's nothing to block you from the opposite block guests who is just 300m away at best. I won't call the room luxurious but it just has a better than average resort feel about it, and its fittings are of the best quality, e.g. Bathroom showers etc. everyone has commented about the amazing views so I won't elaborate on that. The pool area is great, facilities for adults and kids alike and I can see from my balcony that there's a man made beach, though it was a walk away from the main block I was staying in, so I didn't venture there

Location wise, it is situated near the main town of Sanya which tourists don't come to Sanya for, cos it's the typical rather messy Chinese streets. You can take a buggy to the main entrance across the causeway if you want to venture into town like I did. A short 15 mins walk after turning left at the first traffic junction walking straight from the hotel entrance takes you to Pedestrain Street where there are many modern shops, eateries and local produce shops. Lots of shops selling pearls too, though I don't know if they are real or fake. However nothing much for a tourist to see for the whole day unless you are really interested to discover the locals way of life.

Overall I would say the hotel premises is above average but not fantastic, main disadvantage is you feel you are stuck on an island detached from everything. The food is really nothing to shout about especially, so pretty much you are trapped on a nice resort island with little choice of good food.

Beautiful large suites, great buildings and nice territory with modern disign. Everything is full of future and wealth. Egg-shape parts of design is everywhere, evening illumination at the building looks wonderful. There is no beach at the island, but maybe you are here for other things: superior interiors, service (english of personel is at good level) and delicios breakfasts. Good place for dates:) Children could be bored a bit, but some pools and activities could make them happier.
I recommend!

We were in Sanya for one week. The town is very nice and provides a lot of opportunities. We stayed at Phoenix Island Resort Sanya. The resort is on an small artificial island. The rooms are very clean and have a big balcony with furniture to relax. Our cleaner was Linda. A very nice lady that always made sure that we have everything to enjoy our stay.

You have a hotel that is wonderful looking, from the inside as well as the outside, everything looks incredible and luxurious. however, the service is not good and not well thought through as none of the employees can speak fluent or basic English, this is a disappointment to me as this is a standard for every hotel and it makes things like ordering food extremely complicated if the majority can't speak English , and even more disappointing I asked an employee to call the manager as she stated he can speak English, I was devastatingly shocked when I spoke to the manager and he as well could not speak basic or understandable English, I think this is unacceptable from such a hotel with high expectations, as foreign tourists that don't speak Chinese like me,will not be able to do anything unless they have a translation software which is extremely frustrating. I can imagine this Hotel being the best hotel for a Chinese person but it's definitely not for anyone that doesn't speak Chinese as of right now, please fix this and get your employees some English lessons.

Secondly, I would also like to address that there will be a massive cash confusion when ordering food as you must pay 2000 RMB deposit ,which first of all is very strange as I have been travelling around the world and I have never experienced anything like this before in any hotel I have visited. instead of paying all the food at the end you have to pay some sort of deposit every time and they could also not explain to me why I have to pay deposit as their English is not understandable. Also during breakfast in the morning at around 10:00 I noticed that the food wasn't restocked leading to me and my family only eating bananas, eggs and bread for breakfast, very disappointing, their wasn't even enough jam or butter for one slice of bread, and then the food is also quite expensive, overall very disappointed with this.

Thirdly, the WI-FI doesn't work, and when it occasionally decides to work it's extremely slow and not usable at all by any means. Then I have also not got a genius welcome drink and late check-out ,even though I am a genius user on booking.com . However other Chinese people had got a welcome drink and late check-out.

Fourthly, it's seems as foreigners are not welcome especially my family,I have had many incidents proving this for example I ordered a taxi to go to the people's hospital since my son was ill, once the taxi arrived a Chinese woman entered the taxi instead of us and drove away and we had to wait another 20 minutes. even when I complained about this nobody cares at all. Then I noticed other Chinese guests got welcome drinks and late check-out and I didn't even though I'm a genius user.

In conclusion I can't recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great hotel in Sanya as it will just make difficulties,
I have expected alot from this hotel and have been disappointed. Furthermore, I am not planning to come back to this hotel until this is fixed.

We booked in this hotel bcuz it was classified as 5* (but this is a 3* hotel in all aspects), maybe due to their landmark and location can be a 4* but on their service and cleanliness they are below a Holiday Inn or Ibis standard (and we speak Chinese). We were a family of 4 and we stayed for 4 nights.

Upon check-in at the reception we were told we only get 1 key card per room (what??). After some hussle we got the 2 second key card. 1 of the rooms were disgusting, the floor was so dirty, they either didn’t clean or people haven’t stayed here for long time. We asked to have it cleaned and they said the housekeeping staff will clean it the next morning (what???) we asked to change rooms but they said they were fully booked (however the resort was really empty). So we had to stay in a dirty room for the first day. (I must say the housekeeping auntie was very kind on the second day).

Upon arriving to our building (there are 5 building- Building interiors are cracked and there is no air-con anywhere else expect in your own room. It was 10pm and it was really warm and humid. We asked to get some ice and I was told they don’t have and my father tried from his room and he was told the ice machine was broken. But in fact they were just lazy to bring it over. Bcuz then we asked how they could run their Bar and Buffet without ice and they said “oh they used all the ice and now there is no more” long story short - after 10min they brought ice!!! The first day it was a nightmare already so we requested to cancel our stay from the second night onwards but they refused as we paid in advance.

On the second night after dinner we wanted to check out the roof top bar, upon arriving to the 33th floor, we were stopped by the hostess who told us we can’t just go in and check out the place, we must buy a 100RMB ticket which can be used to pay whatever we order inside (I guess that’s their minimum consumption which I don’t mind). Even we were hotel guests and we wanted to check the place for the third night dinner and drinks we were not allowed enter or even to sneak peak (the place was empty, only 2 tables at 9:30pm). Someone should provide better customer service training. I have much more but this should be enough.

Poolside is nice but you have many noisy photographers shouting around for traditional Chinese couples photo album. If this island would be in hands of a multinational hotel management company it would really be a huge hit! But the management of this island is horrific. My worst experience ever!

These five towers visually are instant landmarks of Sanya. Staying in tower 4 the fist impression is that maintenance is sadly lacking. Only one elevator out of three working. Cracks in the floor of the shower, no mini bar and no room service... the bathroom was simply not clean. It is difficult to get a taxi to pick you up because of the security. Also another tower is under construction so at 7am on Saturday morning the construction hammers begin... end of peaceful sleep. It's a pity because visually this place is great, is advertised as 5 stars but 4 would be generous. Sanya has many better places at better rates.

This hotel is top notch, easily one of the best I've ever stayed in.

Before I start on the hotel amenities and others, I'd like to highlight the only reason why I didn't rate the hotel 5/5. The hotel is situated on a reclaimed land in Sanya. It was rather difficult for us to find the hotel and we got lost for roughly 2 hours on the roads. We had to stop several times to enquire about the location the island and hardly anyone could show us the right direction, until we had no choice but to pull up before a police car and have the civil servant show us the right way there. I guess it's because the hotel is still relatively new so even the locals themselves are quite unclear of how to get to the island. When we reached, service was excellent, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. However, we did notice that it would take us some time to walk out of the island and then along the bridge connecting the island to the mainland whilst driving in. Although we were very kindly informed that there would be round the clock lifts by the hotel's very own carriages out of the island, it was still rather inconvenient to get out of the island for the wait, I have heard, is rather troublesome and queues can get insanely long, especially at night.

Alright, going back to the good points of the hotel. I loved everything about it. The staff were very smiley and professional, and they never hesitated to help us each time we had questions about Sanya in general. The interior of the hotel was as grand as its facade. Rooms were grand, big and spacious. More importantly, the well-furnished rooms were also extremely clean. Bathrooms and toilets were conveniently separated and slightly see through. There was also a big balcony that came with my room and the view was splendid. It was a joy to wake up and sit in the balcony and enjoy the sunrise. Viewing the sunset from the balcony while having a bath there was wonderful too.

Breakfast in the hotel is served rather earlier compared to most hotels I have been before. It was alright, with a nice spread of various cuisines and foods. The waiters and waitresses were also very nice, and did not fail to offer assistance whenever possible.

Overall, the stay was very very comfortable and I will definitely go back there again.

The five buildings are aesthetically stunning from the outside and light up beautifully at night (unfortunately not all light up at night now). We stayed in a 2 room suite. The package came with dinner on the balcony which was a generous section of kebabs and several dishes from the Chinese restaurant with a bottle of wine. A great start to our stay.

Unfortunately, there are some internal building issues. When the balcony door was open the central air conditioning caused massive condensation flooding/bonding all over the apartment floor (this would explain the damp musty smell in the room). There was a large spa and bath on the private deck. The drain on the spa was not however functions. The suite was clean and furnished to a basic level. Each room had it's own en suite.

Included in the package was afternoon tea on the Sky lounge. Amazing views from here but most of the seating/viewing area was roped off. We came at 3pm and music was blearing out. Sexually explicit songs in English laden with expletives. I am not normally too bothered by music but this was something else! As we were the only ones there we asked for the volume to be turned down and they refused. The manner and service was rude. The ambience was totally wrong for serving afternoon tea and families. If the hotel insists on creating such an environment there should be a R18 or R16 age limit.

The outdoor swimming pools were well maintained and provided lots of entertainment for the kids. The breakfast selection was excellent and well managed.

We enjoyed our stay but if we returned to Sanya we'd try somewhere different next time. There are plenty of excellent choices. This resort does not have a beach. If you want a beach holiday book in Yalong Bay.
