The room we stayed in was the cheapest kind. They told us the room would be "mountainview". To an extent it was, but we were on the 3rd floor so not much of a view. The room in itself is really basic. White walls, white sheets. If you're looking for gorgeous accomodations, this is definitely not for you. Bare bones, but CLEAN. That was what mattered most for us, since we weren't planning on staying much in the room except to sleep. The only problem was that the washroom had a faint smell of sewage. But with the door closed it doesn't affect the rest of the room.

The best thing this hotel has got going for it is LOCATION. It's literally a 7 minute (trust me, I timed it) walk the beach. A beautiful stretch of pretty deserted sand and water. It's far enough away from the main area of the beach (where they sell food, souvenirs, and watersports) where its more crowded and noisy, but close enough to run over there for some yummy snacks. Our stretch of the beach is only shared by a few other hotels, but still, not many people, peaceful and quiet. Also, right across from the holiday is the Butterfly Museum (the hotel provides free admission tickets). Plus they have a free shuttle bus service that takes you to the square as well as into town. And if you still feel like a dip after a day on the beach, the hotel pool is nice for a night swim. It's huge, but a bit too shallow for my taste (at least you won't drown).

Overall, I don't think I'd go back if I had to pay the regular price (around $70-80US). We got a special deal on a package (flight + hotel + breakfast). Bottom line: great location!

Cactus resort I didn't expect good hotel when I selected this hotel. But hotel room, breakfast and facility were better than my expectation. And this would be the cheapest resort in Yalong bay. This hotel is very close from famous island and forest park. Staff with poor English skills and purely Chinese menu, but with clean rooms and good value for money at the location. The room was large and comfortable with very nice beach near hotel. Swimming pool was excellent and restaurant average. The beach bar (Can be Better) , which faces the ocean, can offer you comfort environment with gentle sea breeze. They also have a Spa that give you the spa massage, which can give you the feeling of home. The mini water park can give your children happy games on water, with safe and interesting equipment. I liked the
The fish massage can make you feel the movement of the small fish, which offers you the different massage feeling is 30 mins for 38 RMB. The swimming bar offers you a place to rest and enjoy your swimming time. This resort offer the biggest swimming pool in Yalong Bay ,gives you perfect feeling with large area and green water.

There are many reasons why this hotel is excellent and why me and my wife had such a great stay.
The swimming pool is a massive highlight with its opening hours and cleanliness and bar. Next you have the golf cart to the beach which is great too. The location is also amazing, being tucked into a corner of Yalong bay making it very relaxing and a welcome treat to enjoy the fresh sea air in China.
However let's look at the facts - this is a reasonably expensive hotel for China and is aiming to compete with other major resorts not only in Sanya but also south east Asia. The amenities inside the hotel need a bit more thought in my opinion. Restaurants with a wider and more reasonably priced menu for one - be aware that with a lack of restaurants nearby you are very restricted. Maybe more in the way of evening entertainment - being in Yalong bay after about 10pm your options are limited unless you want to pay for taxis, or a courtesy car service to another overpriced bar or restaurant. In my opinion Yalong bay and Cactus Resort are beautiful and worth a visit but the area needs to be more prepared to offer entertainment to tourists who on arrival are without many options, and therefore have no choice but to pay way over the odds for average food and service, that anywhere else in China or in Hainan would cost under half the price. I have been to resorts in Fiji, Australia, South America and Europe and this still has a way to come before competing with the big boys.

Absolutely worst possible stay in Sanya! Cheap, cheap, cheap hotel. Lousy food, atrocious service, dorm style rooms going at far too high of price! Pool has no cholrine, which with a few 100 visitors, results in a health hazard for any swimmer. Only "public beach" access -- makes for a zoo like experience! Better to not try!! Better off staying at ANY of the other hotels along the beach. Wouldn't even recommend it to back-packers! You'll get more for your money elsewhere!

I stayed here in the first week of January (Room 4025) and I must say that I am satisfied overall with the experience. I think its a great place to stay if you don't intend to wander outside Yalong Bay area. There is a private beach (beautiful one) for the hotel residents and it certainly has a resort like atmosphere with live performances in the night. Has Korean and Chinese restaurants as well. Average cost for two persons in these restaurants would be 150 RMB (including the huge 12% service charge).

Pros:
1. Very clean room with friendly staff. (The people at the reception did speak English)
2. Beautifully maintained with a large pool, fountains, swings and greenery all around.
3. Value for money.
4. Bus Service to other parts of Sanya (5 RMB/person to Dadonghai Beach)
5. Private and well maintained beach for the hotel guests, with the Golf Cart ride which saves the walk to the beach.

Cons:
1. Too far from the city.
2. Relatively expensive taxi ride is the only way to get to the hotel (RMB 120).
3. No restaurants around the hotel.
4. Nothing to shop for except a few seaside shops near Dadonghai Beach.
5. The internet was VERY VERY slow with occasional disconnections. Don't know if its the norm in China

When you wander out of the hotel, remember that the bus service CLOSES AT 6 PM. We did not know this and had no option but to take the 41 RMB cab ride back to the hotel. Remember that BARGAINING IS A MUST. They ask for higher prices but insist that you would pay the meter fare only. If you go to other parts of the city, make sure you take the bus back to the hotel (cheapest and safest way).

We also had a bad experience shopping for fruits at Dadonghai. We were ripped off by the fruit lady who made us pay 120 RMB for fruits which, after discussing with a Chinese friend later, would have cost not more than 20 RMB. Since we did not know the prices there, and since the lady was trying very hard (really hard) to confuse us with numbers and her conversations (She was just showing the fruits into our bag, not even asking us whether we wanted it or not, and that too not the fresh ones, but the ones that had fallen off from the set). I am normally resistant to this type of cheating, but this lady even managed to confuse and fool me with her incessant chatter.

On the other hand, Dadonghai had some cloth shops along the shore and they were pretty cheap than those we find here in Korea. We also lost our expensive sunglasses here at this shop. We forgot it near the dress changing corner and the next day when we went there, the sales girls said they hadn't seen it. This is quite different from my experiences in Korea, as a foreigner.

In one line: If i visit Sanya again, I would definitely stay in this hotel but I would NOT go outside Yalong bay.

If your objective is to enjoy outdoors, a very nice and huge swimming pool, easy acces to the beach a nice and convenient location near a nice mall, and you want to maximize your budget, this is your hotel. Rooms are clean, quiet and decent, food has good variety for a chinese hotel. People at the hotel seems to try their best, flexible and nice. We stayed there for 5 nights, family of five, and we just loved it. Is not the sheraton or ritz, but highly reccomended to have a nice time off. They offered scuba diving service as well which is not that overpriced, compared to the typical cost of that in that area.

Excellent Hotel - Read some bad reviews on trip advisor - but i think those people must have been staying elsewhere!!
Great hotel, lovely rooms, Massive pool area, short, pleasant walk to picture perfect beach, excellent room service.
Only thing i would say is that an upgrade to a sea view or pool view room is a must if you want a balcony - but its well worth the extra money to have somewhere to sit out & overlook the fountains, lights & pool activities (& sip your G&T).
The pool could do with a little pool bar - but that’s hardly a problem or reason not to go.
The majority of the guests are Chinese who tend to disappear throughout the day then come out at 5pm when they spend their time wandering round in the hotel dressing gowns & stay in the pool playing until 11pm - so no need to take anything dressy to wear!!
Food is very good - especially on the half board option. Service, if anything is too attentive!! Every time you sip your beer or green tea, they are there ready to top you up!
Breakfast is a little crazy - but no different to any other breakfast in a hotel in Asia. HOWEVER if you like a cup of coffee at any stage throughout the day - TAKE YOUR OWN!! the Chinese may be great with tea - but when it comes to coffee, they have no idea - and its ridiculously expensive ( 38Y for a small cup - Beer around 20Y for a large bottle).
Pool is huge & very pleasant - although due to the heat when we were there the water tended to be quite warm!! throughout the day though there were plenty of times when we were the only people in it despite its size!
Lovely fountain displays throughout the day. Easily walk able to the surrounding hotels in the evening ( nightlife unless you're in the pool is slightly lacking - but even taxis into Sanya will only set you back 40Y) The Crowne Plaza is worth a strole to.
Excellent!! Would have no hesitation in going back. There may be better / more expensive hotels in Yalong Bay - but after 2 weeks at the cactus, i can honestly say it was just what we were after!

This hotel was a nightmare from the minute I walked in to the moment I checked out less than an hour later. Not only did they try and upcharge me an extra $300 plus USD, but after fifteen minutes of calls to the travel agency (which was equally as useless) the receptionist ADMITTED she made a mistake and since they had already swiped me card, it would take a few hours to undo the charges. Upon entering the hotel room, was greeted by the sounds of saws, banging, cutting, etc.. of boards right outside my room. Called Receptionist and was told that there was no renovating going on in the hotel (yeah right). After ten calls with no help and numerous calls to the travel agency (who told us we were stuck with the hotel even though we chose it based on their recommendation - dont use CTrip), we left the hotel and had to scramble to find another one. Additionally, although I never authorized any transaction of any kind at the hotel, the hotel swiped my card irregardless and charged me without me signing a slip. Talk about horrid experiences.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for 8 nights. The resort itself is beautiful, very clean. Dining options are not so good. The hotel offers a buffet breakfast in one resturant, and a buffet dinner in another. Neither are open for any other meals. The food choices at both are alot to be desired, especially if you're a westerner. Breakfast was 118 RMB per person, which had us filling up on cold, hard fried eggs and potatoes. Dinner was 188 RMB per person, and the only food we could tolerate were the chicken scewers. A waste of money. There are no choices for lunch unless you walk 10 minutes down to the beach, where you can get a hot dog, a sandwich, or a plate of fruit. The directory showed 2 lounges and resturants on the property that weren't even open. We found ourselves ordering room service for breakfast and dinner and skipping lunch. The beach is nice, but they don't offer cushions for the hard wooden chairs, so we couldn't stand to sit or lay on them for more than an hour. We ended up taking a taxi to the Sheraton down the road, where they had a buffet set up on the beach each evening for dinner. 503 RMB per person!! Was not nearly worth that, since we're not into chinese food containing mostly fat and bones in their dishes. But, the atmosphere at the Sheraton was beautiful so we spent the next 2 days using their comfortable beach chairs and beautiful pools (300 RMB each per day), but worth it. The best food we had our entire week was lunch at the Sheraton on the beach, we ordered ground beef sliders. Delicious! We were getting so bored that we took a taxi to the Yalong Bay National Resort district, cost us about 75 RMB for the ride, but it is a fun place with lots of resturants and bars, and bands at night. The most entertainment we'd had all week! All in all, we were pleased with the resort and it's beauty, especially for the price. Also, bring your own coffee if you want it in your room. And be patient with the staff, very few speak English!!

This hotel was close to what I expected. It is not a five star resort but is very nice. Hotel is clean and new with little of the peeling paint and constant construction you often see in China. The one thing that this hotel is lacking is really top notch service but this is typical throughout China. As an expat who has lived in China for the past year, this hotel is China good - excellent from a Chinese standard. The Bar, Moon Bar, was under construction and I would have really liked to have had some place to have a drink the nights we were there. My wife (who is Chinese) arranged tours while we were there that so we were able to eat off property. The property restaurants are expensive from a Chinese standard. I think the English was limited but I let my wife do that talking so we had no issues. If you want to do mostly sightseeing, you might be better staying downtown Sanya but this place is nice if you want to spend the day at the pool or beach.
