I travelled to Sanya for a long weekend to celebrate a friend's birthday. Arriving at the resort after 11pm, the check-in process was a bit slow and the guy checking us in wasn't that friendly. That said, we had a great and comfortable stay. The room was clean and spacious and the hotel staff were generally helpful although they don't speak much English. The WiFi worked well and I must say Asitha was so helpful during the stay as he helped us get a birthday cake and recommended restaurants and bars. The resort pool was nice and there is a private beach access which made the stay even more wonderful. The breakfast was alright as it has western and Chinese cuisine. The resort Spa is beautiful and enjoyed the treatments. The location is perfect for going to the city centre and Sanya Bay. The hotel needs to improve to cater to international travellers as it has potential to offer an exceptional holiday experience. I will return again.

I often come to Luhuitou, which is the rebranded name of previous Anantara hotel chain. I have to admit that my experience is so far outstanding, rooms are huge and clean, breakfast international and with outstanding food quality. The only room of improvement must be the sunbeds on the beach, which are not comfortable at all (need a soft cover).
Highly recommend to visit!

I traveled to Sanya with my mother for three days of sun and sea, away from all the noise and pollution. We chose Anantara as I stayed in a few of its chain resorts in Bali and Thailand before.

The location of Anantara is very good for those don't want the noise of the city. It is tucked away from the town and it takes a bit of travel to get to. The lobby is nicely decorated and peaceful; the staff is very helpful and nice.

The room is very nicely designed and the bed is very nice and comfortable. I appreciate the nice decor and the layout, and mostly the beautiful ocean view. The breakfast is ok but not as good as Anantara Bali. I am most impressed by the nice pool and the sun beds. Or may be because Anantara Sanya was relatively new resort there, so it was not packed with many people around the pool or its private beach. I certainly enjoyed the nice quietness. However, the beach is right next to another large resort with way more people, they were quite loud and screaming a lot, which spoiled the nice sound of the waves. The staff around the pool area was not paying attention to the guests' needs of towels or drinks. I often found they were checking on their phones or just sat there.

Anantara Sanya spa was a let down. My mom and I went for body oil massage in the hope of complete relaxation and de-stress, but the room we had was very hot and stuffy, we both felt quite dizzy after the massage. And the price of the massage was quite expensive comparing to other spa I went in Thailand or Bali.

I would recommend this resort, and hope the nice environment and quietness won't be ruined in the future.

Response from Jimmy T, Director of Sales at LUHUITOU Sanya Resort
Responded 27 Sept 2013
Dear Sir/ Mdm, Thank you for taking time off your busy schedule to pen down your thoughts and share with us your experience. In general, we are delighted to learn that our resort provided a tranquility and a good relaxation for you and your family. However, we have noted your feedback on the service shortfall in areas which are totally not-acceptable. We will definitely address these issues to the relevant departments concerned to strengthen the training. We have also taken note of your feedback on your less than expected experience at our spa which should be our one of our main pride in the resort and have shared with our Spa Manager. In spite of your experience, we are truely appreciative that you would still recommend our resort. Dear Sir/ Mdm, please feel free to contact me personally on jteo@anantara.com if you require any further assistance. We certainly hope that this one time "off" experience will not deter you from Anantara in the future. We look forward to the privilege of welcoming you and your family back to Anantara Sanya in the near future and assure you of our best attention at all times. Sincerely, Jimmy

I came here with family in December 2019 for a year end trip. It was quite disappointing. We weren't given a villa but an apartment next to the resort which is outside of the resort. Although we can use the facilities in the resort, it makes the entire trip quite inconvenient as we need to keep calling for buggy. The resort is not well kept to begin with. The receptionist is not as attentive as the ones in Phuket or chuangmai. The food served for breakfast is pale in comparison with chiangmai's Anantara. Next come to the room, it's clean, thats for sure however there is a bad stench smell coming from the draining pipes and toilets. I can only attribute it to poor workmanship of the apartment. The view from the apartment is spectacular though. We made complaints to the Anantara management after our trip because Anantara resort should not be such poor quality. During our complaints, we only found out that the reason it's poorly managed because it was sold to another company already and currently they are just honouring existing bookings. This is pretty bad and they should at least take care of Anantara's brand name.

There’s a guest staying long term who plays screeching loud trumpet every day. Literally every day. I think he does it on the balcony - you can’t relax in the room or by the pool. The hotel refuses to do anything (presumably they only care about the money from the long term guest.). He has been here months doing this and refuses to stop, so rest assured it’ll happen to you if you come here. You can also expect loud firecrackers at 2am, 3am, and 6am, which are loud enough to wake you up. Hotel doesn’t even have earplugs when you ask - the level of service is zero. The staff barge in to the room when Do Not Disturb is clearly switched on - this happened three times. Totally unacceptable.

Terrible check in experience and lack of customer service

The manager called Taylor is a total disgrace and has no sense of professional customer service at all. The receptionist, Jason, is terrible. Both just don't care and Have a terrible attitude. Don't waste your time and money here. Better hotels elsewhere. The manager, Taylor, didn't even both to come to talk to me in person and said if you want to cancel then go ahead and cancel or else pay more money to upgrade. I only requested a room with no wall view! the service is incredibly bad and they have no sense of care.

My only suggestion, stay away from this fake five star hotel. A hotel with wall view, imagine that!

Stayed here third time and despite loyalty they still opted to give a room with bad view. While hotel is almost empty, and when asked for better view they ignored the request. Disappointed and next time won't be loyal to such services. Other options to be explored.

Our family recently stayed at the 800sqm 2-bedroom beachfront villa of this resort. Having had remarkably exceptional experiences at the 2 previous Anantara resorts of Phuket Mai Khao and Koh Samui Bophut, we naturally had some expectations of this resort. Unfortunately, after 2 nights stay here (with 2 remaining), we have decided that this is one resort we will never return to,

I have to applaud this resort for the stunningly beautiful landscaping within the resort grounds. You can always see gardeners working under the hot sun, trying to keep the grounds in the impeccable condition. However, unlike the other Anantara resorts that I had stayed in, the staff on the grounds don't greet their guests and don't offer their smiles. It's almost as if guests are invisible.

The villa is enormous but is separated into 3 separate villas. The living room is detached from the two bedrooms on either side, making it quite a pain to walk from one to another. There is no in-room phone for us to call each other within the villa so one always has to keep walking in and out to get to the other room. The bathroom is especially worth a mention with the spacious vanity sinks and the crafted wooden panels. The outdoor tub is huge in size and surrounded by lush vegetation.

Both the private and public swimming pools are spacious and very welcoming in the sweltering heat. The private pool however is quite packed almost at all times of the day, except when it gets dark. It could be because of the Father's Day weekend and so the resort had a lot of guests with small kids.

Lobby had the doors wide open so all air-conditioning was not felt. Check-in also a bit messy and clearly having only one receptionist on duty is way understaffed. Throughout our stay, we felt that this resort is severely understaffed. Reception had 2 staff on duty on most days which was barely enough. On one morning, even the Shi Yuan restaurant saw only 2 people on duty. I find this quite unusual for a resort with such a high occupancy rate. To my surprise, many of these staff are so new that they are just at the resort for over a week. The housekeepers are interns who are about to return to school after their internship ends. This is why the housekeeping quality is so bad. It's so painful everyday as they do housekeeping. We had to stay in the villa to tell them what to do or clean up. Besides from making the bed, changing towels, they do not do anything else. Cups were not washed, living and dining area totally ignored, toothpick left on the beside table also not cleared etc. In the end we stayed around to help point out what else had to be done. I was missing a bar of soap and it was not given to me until I voiced it out on the third day.

I can't fault the hardware aspect of this resort but the soft skills are definitely lacking. More training is an imperative! We are not asking for them to anticipate our needs and requests but having to be acting like a supervisor to give directions on how and where to clean is quite absurd.

Breakfast variety is limited and the bacon looks and tastes weird. The Saturday night BBQ is quite limited in variety too and the fish and prawn are so small and stinks. It is definitely not worth the price.

We tried their spa on 3 occasions and that is the one thing we are quite happy about. The treatment rooms are spacious and cosy. The specialists are professional and attentive. There's only one held back that too much natural lighting came in from the windows that had no curtains. It made resting in peace a little difficult without the eye masks.

The resort had a shuttle bus arrangement with the Intercontinental and Serenity Coast next door. We only made use of it once because the shuttle bus was too packed and when it came to Anantara, there were no more seats left.

We saw the General Manager on a few occasions in the restaurant and at the front lobby. However, he did not offer to make contact and looked stern and cold, so much a difference from when we met with the then GM Mr Christian Gerart of Anantara Phuket. We do not feel welcomed or treated with warmth. On the morning of the second day, we heard the GM telling the staff at the restaurant that her coffee is too sweet and that he was giving her face by ordering the coffee. He would not order the coffee anymore when he next comes. I'm not sure if he knew that he was seated somewhere near guests and that guests can hear his comments. How good can it be when a GM makes a bad remark about the beverage offered at their own resort? What kind of impression will it leave upon guests?

Overall, the resort remains in tiptop condition in terms of the landscaping and size. The villas need a bit more care and refurnishing especially at the corners. Housekeeping really ought to be trained. We found someone's used pair of swimming trunks in the vase in the villa. Please work on the service levels. As the housekeepers are interns/students/temps, it is also quite difficult to match with the previous experience. We also lost some valuables in the villa and reported to the resort but they said they could not find the items. This is very saddening and unlike any Anantara resort we've stayed at. When we hopped over to Intercontinental for a stroll, the service quality there amazed us and made Anantara pale so much in comparison. Even though we were not guests of Intercontinental, they were friendly, smiling and offered suggestions and advice. They even offered to bring us back in their buggy so that we need not walk under the scorching sun. That's anticipating needs. That was what Anantara did for us in Phuket and Koh Samui, Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of Anantara Sanya.

This is one resort we will never return to again.

The hotel is poorly maintained - nobody will believe it is just two years old - and the dining and bar services are close to non existing. The main issue is that there is nobody who speaks English. Order a bottle of sparking water becomes a nightmare. The spa is expensive and well below average. I struggle to see why the hotel is rated so highly. There is no value for money.

We definately did not enjoy our stay at Anantara Sanya.

1. it's an old hotel and you can see that in every corner. Defect shower head in the room, mold in the restaurant around the climatisation and in the shower.
2.the service is awful.they don't speak a word of english!impossible to order a glass of wine or gin tonic. Even if those drinks are mentionned on the drink list, they were unable to understand what we wanted.
3. matresses at the pool area, which they normaly should put over the sunbeds, were wet and smell disgusting. They never entered them while it was raining outside and lying on wet matrasses while sunbathing is definately not fun
4. people, who were not guests at the hotel were occupying the sunbeds at the beach.
5.since there were not a lot of guests in the hotel, they closed the bar at 6 pm
6.Check in and out is very very long!!!40 minutes
7.no climatisation at the gym

But the thai restaurant and the massages are good.
However, we would never go back to that place,we definately did not enjoy our stay.
