A really excellent location as so close to the beach and I was lucky enough to have a room overlooking the pool and sea which was great. The pool looks lovely and the rooms are spacious and generally clean. Very hard matresses (this seems to be something Chinese customers prefer). The hotel was geared up for the Russian market and all signs were either in Chinese or Russian so very difficult for the English speaker. Also none of the staff spoke English (not sure about the Russian!). What let the hotel down was the restaurant in particular but the general 'shared' areas such as the lobby. It all looked a bit tatty and I am amazed to find the hotel was only built in 2007 - it really hasn't been looked after very well for a hotel of that age. Personally I would like to visit the area again as only had limited time and it was an interesting place to go but would probably look for a different hotel in the same general location.

Loved the location. It was about a 15 yuan taxi ride (10 minutes) from downtown so we didn't have to deal with all the traffic and crowds.

It was only 1 minute from a secluded beach so one could easily go for a dip or walk (again, without the crowds).

Staff sucked. They will tell you not to take taxis even though metered taxis are fine. There was also a high discrepancy between what local tourists were interested in seeing and what most western tourists found appealing. Use fair judgment on plans as the staff tend to suggest monotonous itineraries.

Location is perfect if you want peace and quiet and convenience as it is only 10 mins from the airport and 1 min from a beach. It was great to get away from all the people in other parts of China! Facilities and hotel were good. Swimming pool is very big and never packed, in fact during the day there was no-one using it! The breakfast buffet was pretty much the same everyday, mostly Chinese food apart from eggs and bacon which got abit boring. We only ate at the 'western restaurant' in the hotel once where we had a club sandwich which was made fresh so was good, but the menu was quite basic.

The negatives of the hotel were the front desk staff. On our first night we were told that we shouldn't get taxi's around the area and instead use the hotel car. So when we wanted to get some dinner they ordered the car (which was a dingy van) and were told the driver would take us anywhere we wanted to go. We obviously didn't know the area, and so he drove us to a nearby seafood restaurant, but after seeing the place we didn't want to eat there and instead wanted to go to a place we had seen earlier where there were some expats eating. After fussing with the driver he drove us there but said we would have to make our own way back to the hotel (even though we were told that the driver would wait for us and bring us back). We could tell that the driver took us to the first restaurant because he was friends with some of the people there, and so he wanted to go back to his friends, and so we ended up walking back to the hotel.

Also, I would suggest you don't trust anything the staff say because we noticed that they were generally wrong (we were told not to take taxi's but the majority of taxi's used the meter so they weren't trying to con us and sights aren't as far away as they say they are).

One final thing that could have ruined the holiday was the fact that when we were checking out the staff had no regard for looking after us (they had got their money and that's all they care about) and the lobby assistant tried conning us by getting us a taxi for the airport and saying it would cost 30RMB when we only paid 15RMB (through the meter) on the first night from the airport!

We stayed at this hotel for one week in March 2013. We booked a seaview room with a nice view of both the ocean and the pool. The room was ok with a slow internet connection and standard Chinese bed (Rock Hard). The hotel is situated far away from any shops in a very quiet area, going to Sanya city center for shopping by taxi cost 28 Yuan one way.
The hotel have two restaurants, one Chinese and one with Russian food. None of them is very good. The breakfast was a disappointment. The staff does not speak English but some speak Russian. All information about guided tours and so forth is written in Chinese and Russian.
The beach is just one minutes walk from the hotel and there is a beach bar. There is a nice swimming pool which is empty most of the time. For relaxation it is a nice place.

We stayed at the Yelan Bay Resort for a few nights in July 2012. The hotel is located a short distance from Sanya Airport, which was convenient but aside from this reason, the location is actually quite ordinary.
The hotel rooms were really small and overlooked the pool area. The bedding was hard, which standard and to be expected in China. If we had have paid more for the hotel, I would have given it a harsher review but I'm a firm believer that you pay for what you get. Food was ordinary and after three nights, it all got too much and we checked out to find another hotel.
Also, avoid the 'massage' parlor. Many hotels in China offer massage services with separate seedier services. When we went to get a massage, there were only the 'latter' which were available, which was ridiculous so avoid!

Not a bad hotel but the whole place is tired and showing its age.
The breakfast was pretty poor even by chinese standards, not even the coffee was good.
Tried the bbq, brazilian bbq was not available and the regular one was pretty poor.
Staff generally nice and helpful.

Jet bikes available on beach and reasonably priced (150rmb for 10mins).

Not in walking distance from anywhere worth going, so it'll be taxi anywhere. Taxis's usuakky waiting around hotel anyway, or rent a scooter in town.
Hotels caters primarily for Chinese and Russian visitors.

Great hotel location with clean picturesque beach area across the road. Cosy hotel with dining room on the first floor with a quite a variety of tasty food.
The bathroom has all the necessary stuff: slippers, bathrobe, toothbrush and toothpaste, a comb, shower cap, shower gel, shampoo. Room service was perfect. The only disappointment for us was the absence of refrigerator. Also, there was a teapot with glasses, teacups, teaspoons and 2 black and 2 green tea bags for having tea at the balcony or in bed.
There was a little store in the hotel where you could buy snacks, drinks and some other stuff (umbrella, swimming suit etc).
Time recommended for safe swimming in the sea 7am-7pm, and the pool was available 6pm-11pm.
The bus stop is right near the hotel, so you can easily go sightseeing and shopping downtown.
For us as a couple it was perfect hotel: quiet and green, warm sea nearby, not crowded beach and bus stop nearby so we could visit lots of wonderful unique places.
The restaurants are situated 15-20 minutes walk from the hotel. So it's great to take a nice walk before and after the meal.

There are some strong points for this resort:
1. They have an incredible swimming pool. It's definitely the highlight of the resort. It's clean, well maintained and big enough not to feel crowded.
2. The beach is across the road. No need for taxis or buses to get to the beach.

The rooms are comfortable enough and have a good view of the pool. Cleaning staff are relatively thorough.
The breakfast buffet is average. Not appealing for everyone. They could introduce fresher ingredients.

I had an issue with the electricity in my room, and the staff spoke very little English so it took some time to get it sorted.

Still, a good location. If you want to get a bus or taxi to the city (about 5km away) then the road behind the resort is full of taxis and has a bus stop.

I booked a "180-degree seaview room" with balcony for only around Rmb339 (~30 Euro) per night (breakfast included) in July. The room price is definitely low in Sanya. The hotel is a small one, but still consists of a swimming pool, chinese restaurant (western restaurant is not open) and a bar. While the hotel is not well decorated and is not of 4 or 5-star hotel standard, it is clearly a value-for-money one.

Unlike the popular Yalong Bay, Sanya Bay is signficantly less crowded. The beach is free. No need to pay! The hotel is located especially in the rural area. It is thus very quiet.

However there are some drawbacks. Very few restaurants are within walking distance. Guests can only dine at hotels if ones don't go out. Food is nonetheless reasonable priced relatively in Sanya. Each dish of chinese food costs arond Rmb60. Secondly, I encountered electricity suspension for few hours during my stay. Hopefully, it was an accident only.

My sea-view room is located at 4th floor, absolutely 180 degree sea-sight, though the balcony is REALLY simple, but you can hear the sound of waves at night, and a little breeze from the sea, that's such a enjoyment, the bed is huge and well-located, take your girl and just HAVE FUN!
BTW the sea-view room should be your only choice in this hotel, any other lower level room sucks.
