Detailed Reviews

My family (parents with two kids, 1 and 4 years old) stayed at Westin Haikou in August 2022. As we just moved to Haikou, we were planning to stay at Westin for 1-2 weeks until we find a house to move in. Due to the pandemic and unexpected lockdown of the city, we ended up staying for a month!! This is the longest stay we had at one hotel and to my surprise, half of me still wanted to stay longer even after 32 nights, the hotel was that good!
Before coming to the city, we had to decide between Marriott, Sheraton and Westin. The Westin did not have many positive reviews so we were reluctant at first, but the location was so good that we decided to try. Looking back, I am glad I chose Westin because it was just ten minutes away from the places we had to visit frequently for the kids and for ourselves. There are numerous restaurants and shopping malls near by, and the famous park is right next to the hotel. The hotel is located right off the beach so great views from the room. The infinite swimming pool and jacuzzi were just amazing, warm and clean water with breeze of an air in the evenings, we loved swimming after dinner and just watch the sea, ships, and lightings of century bridge, that was spectacular and so relaxing.
The hotel is relatively new, so the rooms, furniture and fixture are all modern and up to date. And the staff there are even better, as I stayed over a month, I had numerous interactions with their employees at different points. Leo from Guest service was very helpful and whenever we had a problem, he was there. He was always professional and speaks good English so for us non-Chinese speakers he was a gift! We also had good relationships with dining room staff as we went there almost every morning for breakfast and sometimes for dinner buffet. While breakfast menu was good, we got tired of having the same menu day after day, after about one week. Bruce, the chef, understood and he would make some amazing pancakes for my kids and dumpling/Chinese pancakes off the menu for us. That was really nice of him and we cannot wait to go back to try his pancakes. Also I enjoyed having ice Americano at breakfast, and Suelleon always remembered to get us our drinks and pastries!
As a member, we frequently visited their lounge and I would like to say that they had the most friendly employees working there, special thanks to Betty and Wendy for helping us with kids and always welcoming us with warm smile. They always went out of their way to make guests feel comfortable and taken care of, and this was especially meaningful during the one week lock down.
In summary, I would like to say that the Westin was amazing in almost every aspect. If they can improve the variety of menu at lounge during happy hour, it will be better. We stopped going to the happy hour after a few days as the menu were quite repetitive and nothing much for kids to eat. Also it will be nice to have take-out cups/containers at the lounge as sometimes it was very crowded and difficult to find a seat there. On the other hand, their dinner buffet was incredible and excellent in value, they have different types of meat, seafood, sushi, sashimi, lobster and even fried foie gras!! All in all, the management at the Westin is doing a great job and hope they continue providing the high level of customer service!

Visiting family members in Haikou and choosing this hotel to stay while visiting.
1. Hotel Amenities and infrastructure: Have been aware of this Westin for quite a while a few years ago before it opened, I believe the hotel is built 10 years ago(from today) and opened recently (around a year ago). I am also excited to stay at this only Marriott hotel in downtown Haikou, other ones are kind of far away from this part of Haikou. The hotel rooms are neat but I find signs of an old building such as the HVAC controller looks really old. So the decoloration in this room represents the age of this building. There is also some weird smell in one of the rooms, but after the hotel team moved me to another room, there is no weird smell anymore!
2. Food: The breakfast is a little crowded I believe due to the HUGE concert happening in Haikou so not gonna blame this on the hotel. The executive lounge is great, 5 hot foods include chow mein and fried rice, and alcoholic beverages are solid as well.
3. Service: Service is top tier in this hotel, every staff in this hotel is friendly and very helpful for everything! Also, shout out to the people at the front door of the hotel, they do their best to help the guests!
Overall a great hotel, with great services and views by the way! The only problem is the hotel is kind of old due to the building being built a long time before the hotel opens.

This hotel is beautiful and employees are respectful and very pleasant to interact with. They aim to please, this is apparent. However, suprisingly they fall short in one significant area, which is the lounge experience. The food is excellent, the servers are nice, however there are areas that need to be addressed. For happy hour/dinner at the lounge, the food runs out constantly without monitoring for refils. Only when you ask will they make a call to restaurant to restock. More importantly, they are CHEAP, the worst thing you can do to loyal customers. The lounge does not always serve hard liquor, specifically whiskey and vodka, when they should be. I saw vodka once, and I have been here for a week. Ive seen no whiskey, which is what I consume. The reason is management is simply cheap. They admitted this much when the manager implied if they put whiskey the guests will drink it all up……lol…duhhh…thats what the lounge is for, and thats why I am loyal to this brand, spending more than 100 nights at Marriott hotels. They have the privilage of the Marriott Bonvoy brand, and they are destroying the brand, in my opinion. Some properties do this, trying to minimize inventory to beef up margins…aka being cheap, as they confirmed to me. This is an embarrassment. You are Westin, a premiere prestigious brand. I communicated my concerns about 4 days ago and gave then the opportunity to improve, however all I got in return were offers of complimentary buffet and evian water to my room, both which I rejected. I can care less about free food, I care about the brand.

The hotel facilities are outdated, the room layout is outdated, and there is a musty smell, completely unlike a newly opened hotel. The Location and service are not bad, however not recommended. There are too many areas that need improvement.
