Stayed here whilst husband was playing golf. Kids with friends for the weekend and was looking forward to a little luxury. On arrival (he was already on the course) I couldn’t access the entrance to the hotel as it was closed because of some conference with football teams. No signage to say where to go. Eventually found an entrance where the staff were helpful and were able to check me in. Room was spacious and well decorated. There’s nothing else around the hotel so you are pretty much confined to it! I changed and went to find the bar to have a drink whilst waiting for husband to come back only to be told that the bar was closed because of the football teams and that I should use the minibar in my room. Decided to use the lovely looking jacuzzi bathtub and minibar in my room for a few hours. Sadly there was no minibar in the room, no cocktail or wine options on the room service menu and the jacuzzi was broken. Oh and there was no wifi. Dinner that night at the BBQ venue was uninspiring, though we had a comfortable nights sleep. Breakfast was plentiful and the pool and hot springs were very good. Given that the room came as part of a deal with the golf, it’s not too bad, but the hotel is aging and not well maintained. I would advise staying in a better hotel in Haikou center and getting a car out to the golf course instead. If you’re a golfer needing a bed for the night after a long day it might be fine, but for a golf widow, it doesn’t provide enough to justify being just that! This is probably the most karen middle class review I have ever written, but this place simply didn’t deliver!

Stayed here with a group of friends for a long weekend golf vacation. The positive is that the golf is fantastic and staying onsite makes it easy in the morning. The negative is that it is very Chinese - not much English spoken here. The Japanese restaurant had a fantastic deal for 199 yuan all you can eat and drink but had not English menu. The Chinese restaurant had a similar issue and required finding a special menu then crossing out everything that wasn’t available. The lobby bar needed to find the designated English speaking staff member - so it was a trend each place we went. The room itself was OK - having stayed at the Renaissance and Ritz previously I can say I much prefer those hotels but this resort does its job if you are on a budget.

The room is very comfortable but communication is a problem. Staff are very pleasant and try hard but their target audience is local Chinese or Hong Kong. China also doesn't allow google or social media on any internet - so if you need these be sure to arrange your own phone roaming. As a female on the golf course, the caddies were wonderful but Chinese men (other golfers) were very rude.

Target audience is Chinese and the experience falls flat on its face because of it. The courses are separated between north and south and they wouldn’t even bring my bag from one complex to the other when playing at the other location the next day. This is just one of several examples of there being so much to change before i’d recommend this place to people who haven’t spent time in proper China - or could speak enough mandarin to confirm that they were serious about not providing a basic service like this. The courses themselves are lovely with designs that are unique and different. The condition varies between courses but I was surprised at how poorly some of the greens were kept considering it’s required to have a caddy. My caddy also told me they were “super busy” with 500 rounds across their 10 courses that day, which isn’t a lot. It sounds like they shut down the south courses over summer - or at least some of the courses - and I did find the condition to be better in the South complex (eg the greens on meadow and shadow dunes were in pretty good condition v Legacy course which has ball marks everywhere). The speed of greens seemed to range between 7.5-8.5 for those wondering. This was in early October with good sunny weather. There is only one driving range on the property and it’s connected to the North courses; however, there is no putting/short game area here - cost for the range was 80 rmb and you could hit it off the grass. There was a putting green servicing the south courses and you could always warm up at the north and take their shuttle to the south when finished, but the shuttle only runs every 20+ minutes and it’s about a 5 minute drive. Again, going back to my first comment, if this was in a Western country they’d have the process working like a well oiled machine but they make it a much bigger hassle than it needs to be that you just forget the thought of warming up. The caddies were all very young (<25 years old) and were average-good caddies; don’t expect great service or golf knowledge - I generally appreciate having one or the other when it’s mandatory to have one. Some ancillary details: - I highly recommend the Dunes course for a lads trip. The greens are fun (but not too ridiculous) and there’s great risk/reward holes. - there was no f+b serving any of the courses except for at the clubhouse despite being a “busy weekend” - they assigned us “English speaking caddies” most rounds. Their English was extremely basic so don’t be too fussed if you are assigned a standard caddy - Im pretty sure they could provided the yardages in English if needed.

I was here for a business event and I was pleasantly surprised by the location, room standard and the overall level. The staff is friendly and very polite but the communication was difficult as only a couple of members of the staff were talking English while the others were trying to interact by using a translation app. We asked for a late check out in order to use the shower two hours after the check out time and they kindly allowed us

Have now stayed at this resort a few times in the past 12 months. All of the staff are very welcoming, though I’d love to make special mention to a particular lovely lady by the name of Beth. Each time we’ve visited she goes over and above to make sure each expectation is surpassed. The staff at these resorts can make it a difficult experience as an English speaking tourist in China. Beth certainly stands out and makes the experience an enjoyable one. If you’re an English speaking visitor make sure you ask for her and your holiday will go very smoothly. Rooms are beautiful, comfortable beds and good A/C which you need all year round in Haikou, all with a view out over the golf course. Golf courses are all presented in top condition with plenty of variances in the difficulty of each course. New addition of an undercover indoor swimming pool is a plus, along with the outdoor pool, lazy river, wave pool an the mineral spas you’ll have options to suit your needs. Plenty of choices for dinner, all of good quality. Only a short bus ride into the city that Mission Hills run for guests that’s worthwhile heading into for a look. Overall a top quality resort with plenty of options to suit anybody.

Recently stayed here while coaching in nearby Haikou. Beautiful resort and well appointed. Fantastic buffet breakfast with everything you could ever want. Didn’t get to experience it to its fullest due to work commitments. Not near the town, so need to drive places.

All I can say maybe if we didn’t have our own personal butter in Beth Wang looking after us this trip wouldn’t of been anywhere near a 5 star review. This young woman was exceptional in how she looked after us.I have traveled the world holiday in various places but the service this girl gave our group I have never experienced. As for the hotel and facilities they were excellent. But our hold trip was based around playing golf. Was a shame we weren’t able to play on all coarse’s but due to maintenance they weren’t available. But 3 coarse’s we did play on were excellent. The only negative comment I would make is that maybe need a few more staff whom could understand English. But because we had Beth looking after us this was a problem for our group. In finishing all I can say if you are going to plan a trip to Mission Hills Haikou then suggest you try and get Beth Wang to look after you and will make your holiday a much better one.

BEST week of my life. Amazing food, amazing rooms, amazing golf courses and we were lucky to experience 5 of them!! Most organised hotel I've ever been to. Beth is absolutely amazing, most down to earth and hard working person, I think she never sleeps that's how hard she works. If you have a chance to speak to her make sure you do! Highly recommend mission hills haikou.

Recent 11day golf tour to Mission Hills Haikou. They have a resort desgned for the golfer in mind with 10 cousres to play. There 5 restaurants cateing to all nationalities within the resort. The golf courses cater to all golfers. Black Stone & Lava fields courses are the better ones to play for challenge and looks in my opinion, but you need to try all to make a decision. Yes I did play 7 of the 10 courses in 9 days.
