Dongguan Guanlan Lake is very suitable for families of all sizes to play, with a great location and surrounded by
Beautiful scenery. The hotel offers a variety of activities to entertain guests. The hotel's lawn camping buffet dinner is very rich, with the wind blowing by the lake at night. Eating the buffet dinner is very pleasant!! I have a great time here and will tell all my friends about it.

My wife & I came here for one night break. This place has really gone downhill since I was here a few years ago. Our room which was a 01 room barely had any signal, we had to go to the coffee shop to work because of this.

Their lobby coffee shop has no idea what a latte or cappuccino are, we were served black coffee with awful foam. We arrived for breakfast at 7:30 and most of the food was cold already, and again, not much choice of coffee. The only decent thing about the breakfast were the omelettes.

We scouted this hotel for a potential family trip later this year, decided better not. Much better resorts in the area.

We stayed at MH Dongguan for a 7days/6 rounds of golf holiday with our 9yr old daughter and another the couple.

The first thing you notice when you arrive is the sheer scale. The hotel complex is huge. The "piazza" at the rear which over looks the 18th of the Olazabl course needs to seen - it could easily hold a party for 400+ guests.

Upon check-in we were welcomed by the wonderful Julia. She was one of a handful of ex-pat staff at the hotel (she's from Mexico). We will say upfront that Julia made our stay the most memorable and relaxing. She greeted us every day at breakfast and helped to organise kids club and other activities for our 9yr old daughter whilst we played golf. She even organised for one of her colleagues (Jin - who was also excellent) to look after us when she had a day off. You can't ask for any better service than that!!

We were given rooms on the 16th floor (18 floors in total) and they were excellent - comfortable, modern and large. You even get a little walk-in wardrobe. The views from the oversize balcony is manificent (on clear days when there is no smog).

The "World Kitchen" served a great buffet breakfast every morning - with sufficient western and asian choices. At night it turns to serving a buffet of food from around the world (hence the name). The World Cup Lounge at the club house & Melange Bar Lounge at the hotel provided an excellent venue for a beer or three after golf.

For the golfers reading this review, we played 6 coures out of the 12 (in order): Annika, Rose-Poulter, Faldo, World Cup, Olzabal & Norman. All were excellent and had their own unique characteristics. As it turned out we played the courses from (realtive to each other) easiest to hardest - not that Annika was a walk in the park. We had great fun with our caddies. They knew their stuff and can pick up your capabilities quite quickly. The greens were a tad slow (9.5ft on the stimpmeter is apparently fast for them - that's as far as the sign went) - despite the speed the greens were all in excellent condition and ran true.
The only thing to note is that the 12 courses are spread out across 3 sections. There are 5 located around Dongguan complex, 5 in Shenzen complex (40 minutes away) and 2 in the Mid Valley complex in between the two. They operate shuttle buses, which whilst well run, do only depart every 20-30 minutes. So make sure you leave early if you have to go from one side to the other. But don't worry about your sticks - you get a bag tag at check in and all you have to do is tell them where you are playing the next day - it will turn up everyday on a cart with a caddy ready.

For families... there is a substantial kids club available (which is about to be renovated and made larger!!) in a building that also houses the gym. There is an excellent 18 hole putt putt course for the kids (and adults) to enjoy. They also have a "petting zoo" to keep the little ones entertained. Unfortunately the pools were out of service during our stay for repairs. We were there in "winter" after all (18-20 deg. C through out the day).

Whilst I didn't use the spa facilities, my wife reliably informs me that the facilities were excellent, extensive and reasonably priced. In fact, by 5 star western standards most things were reasonably priced (I am from Australia so its relative to that) - the exception being wine. Stick to the local beer (refreshing) or spirits.

Outside of the resort, there is MH Mall - a western mall with an ice skating rink and other fun activities for kids. There is grocery store here where you can get snacks, fruit etc.. to stock up your bar fridge. You can get there via the shuttle bus. Beyond that, you can organise a private car through the hotel to take you to Shenzen city/CBD for shopping (Luoho/Commercial City) and touring around (Dafen painters village a must see). Allow at least 1hr drive each way.

Overall, the experience, the golf, the amenities and particularly the service - with Julia looking after us everyday (like having your own personal concierge!) - was most definately 5 stars.

Read so many good reviews about this property, came here with my entire family, 12 of us.

Trust me I have been to many 5 star properties in many countries.
This property just says 5 star, but it’s not at all 5 star!

3 kids, adults and senior citizen. Nothing is available in property for kids without additional charge.
Everything is additional charge, club house, kids play area.

Hardly any of the staff speaks English. And cost cutting! No electricity in play area. No air conditioner, lots of bugs! Even the room air conditioner is not working properly.

Would suggest not to come here! Esp. not at all with kids/family. Far away from city, nothing to do except you’re here for golf.

What they show in the website pictures, it’s not at all like that. It doesn’t even look good, in person. Pictures are from all over thr properties in China. It doesn’t show particular one property pictures.

We came here for good family vacation, looking at the property were so excited. Closer to Hong Kong, perfect for the weekend gateway.

But, we were wrong. So, upset with our decision of choosing this property, will never suggest to anyone.

Responded 24 Sept 2018
Dear Mr. Sha Thank you for choosing Mission Hills Resort Dongguan. As we did not meet up your expectations of the entertainment facilities, we apologize for it and we would like to thank you for taking the time to bring up your comments. Mission Hills Resort is always focusing on our guests experience and we have a wealth of entertainment facilities to satisfy our guests needs; besides all of them, I would like to specially mention that the recreation center also has a Kid’s playground that perfectly fits your daughter age and it is complimentary for our hotel guests; as well a trampoline paradise has been opened recently, I am sure your kids can try and have a lot of fun there. The family fun package includes plenty of activities not only in Dongguan resort but also at the MH mall where a free shuttle bus runs every 30 minutes, Cinema, ice skating, mini-golf and cooking classes to name just a few of the activities. It is high worthy when traveling with family. Your comments about the lack of knowledge of English by hotel staff have been noted and we will look into and strengthen the training to all the staff. I have personally revised all the photos in the website and all of them belong to the resort, with the exception of only one photo uploaded by a valuable guest which shows the MH mall. The resort is located in a National Park which provides a fresh environment unfortunately insects are part of it, in order to avoid bugs and mosquitoes we suggest our guest not to keep the balcony opened and also a bed net and a repelent machine are available in every room. Finally I would like to mention that the appraisal you left upon your departure to our Indian chef has been shared to our staff; and we are trying our best to be more vegetarian friendly in order to fulfil all our guests’ needs. Thank you very much for taking the time to point out our problems, so that we have the opportunity to improve ourselves. We look forward to welcoming you back to our Mission Hills Resorts in the future. For any assistance please don’t hesitate to contact us at guestexperiencedg@missionhillschina.com. I went here with my wife on a trip organised by CGE, and I highly recommend them as organisation was perfect
The actual golf courses are brilliant but probably suited to the better golfer. Steve organised my caddy Meili and she was a great caddy and fun company
The food and drink at the resort is varied and reasonable quality without being first class
The spa is very high quality with many options
Non golfing wives don't really have much to do.
The rooms are spacious and Devore good but the carpet needs replacing
I look forward to returning with golfing friends

Recently spent a week here with a group of 112 from Australia. Despite being rained out for 2 days I would not have missed the experience for anything. The Courses are spectacular but very difficult for all but low markers. Check your ego at the gate and play off the the Gold or Blue Tees. If you are fortunate enough to get a game on the Norman course Blue Tees only if you are not off single figures. The Hotel is superb, staff are wonderful and the caddies are outstanding. After about an hour they will will stop giving you yardages and just hand you a club. Take my word for it, ( I play off 8) just hit the club they give you, along with the putt read they are almost always spot on! The food within the resort is OK and reasonably priced, however whilst drinks in the Club House Bar and from the room bar fridge are cheap beer and wine in the hotel and restuarants is quite expensive. Do yourself a favour and go to the hotel shop where beer is very cheap and fill up your fridge. Be certain to sacrifice $8 on a bottle of Great Wall Cab Sav, the local drop and without doubt the worst thing I have ever smelt or tasted, the $8 will be well spent because you will never ever smell any thing like this again. Be happy that the boquet translates well to the palate and tip it down the sink! This is a place for golfers and if the handbrake doesn't play I would suggest that you leave her at home. Be warned that the border crossing from Hong Kong into China and particularly from China back into Hong Kong by road is a nightmare. Fly direct into China if you can.

When you think big, you cannot imagine how big....

Rolling green courses, grand vistas, big, sprawling open spaces are some of the words that describe this very beautiful resort.
Serene and lush, this hotel is a fantastic getaway from the crowded city life of Hong Kong or mainland China. Restaurants in the hotel boast a great menu with a variety to suit all palates. Top quality and fresh, each dish was a delight.

The spa is like most others but the massages are awesome, all the girls have a special technique guaranteed to relax away tired and sore muscles.

Really enjoyed my stay

Menu is extensive at world kitchen..in fact about 4 menus. Very reasonably priced so I wouldn't worry about cost compared to Australia or NZ. I ate lunches and dinners after golf for 2 days.
Dongguan, China
Dear Guest As a response of your answer, I will explain some ways to reach Dongguan Hotel using public transportation: -You can take the metro in Hong Kong until Lok Ma Chau Station which is the last station of the light blue line; after that it is necessary to cross immigration (first is the exit of Hong Kong and the second one is the Entry of China Mainland). Once this procedure is finished you would be able to: 1. Take the Shenzhen metro to Huanggang Check point (you would need to exchange from line 4 to line 7 in Fumin station); or, 2. Take a taxi to Huanggang Check Point Bus Station (it takes around 15 min.) In both options, once you have arrived you need to cross the pedestrian bridge in direction to the immigration building and before entering you will see an escalator on the right side going to the first floor. The shop 17 is Mission Hills shuttle bus, you need to take the F shuttle bus to Dongguan Hotel, and there is a shuttle bus available almost every 20 to 30 minutes. (The price is 60 rmb) -Another option from Honk Kong is to take a CTS bus departing from Wanchai area; you will find a counter in the first level, located in the middle of the buildings Olympus and Allianz. The small counter is face to the harbor road. There are tickets to Huanggang border (the price is 50 HK dollars). Once you arrived to Huanggang you need to cross immigration to exit Hong Kong, after crossing, another bus will be waiting for you to take you to the immigration for entering China Mainland. Once you have passed the two immigrations you need to go to the shop 17 to get a ticket to Mission Hills Dongguan. Please feel free to contact me in case you need more detailed information or any clarification. Looking forward to see you, Julia Perez Guest Service Manager

Hi Lizzy. To the best of my knowledge, as I didn't use the gym, I'd presume they'd be included in the cost of staying there. They'd also have towels that you could use for free. The only shuttles they have for free are the ones that travel between the various clubhouses - dongguan, mid levels and Shenzhen. Anything out side of that, you'll need to organise a driver or taxi. Best via the hotel as they'll organise a driver who speaks English.

Hi, The shuttle is free and leaves every 30 mins. But this is only to the middle valley clubhouse and the Shenzhen clubhouse. ( worth a look.) As for getting around the resort there is a lot of walking. From the main lobby to the pools is a 10 min walk. Dongguan is very spread out to give you the feel of being the only ones there. The walk to breakfast is again a 5 to 10 min walk. If you have a problem with stairs, continue the walk from the lobby through the walk of fame to the convention center. They have a lift to go downstairs to the major restaurant where breakfast is served. If this is too much walking for you, try to transfer to Shenzhen. In our quick look around it appeared to be a more compact resort. There are signs stating 60RMB to use the pools, but questioning the staff we were told it is free to room guests. I did not check the final bill to confirm this, but I did not sign a receipt for this charge where every where else they were very strict. When you enter the pool area they ask you to sign in with your room number. They then give you a free towel. You can also ask for a locker. These were great, as it gives you a water proof wrist band that opens your locker, so no keys. Hope this helps.
