I spent two nights at the Aruma. My first time to stay in a boutique hotel. A very pleasant experience. The room was spacious and comfortable, a very modern design. The hotel restaurant had the standard travelers breakfast in the morning, fresh and hit the spot. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. I was there on a business trip but it coincided with the yearly Carnaval Arica hosts. The hotel is a few blocks from the city center, so it is an easy walk to tour the city and sample the Carnaval experience. Nice hotel, I would stay there again.

This is a modern, spacious hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Arica town centre is pretty grotty, so there are no views worth mentioning, but it was a good base for exploring the nearby mountains. Not a place to eat -- probably the worst pizza in the world! -- but very welcoming.

Hotel Aruma is located very close to the main shopping plaza (one block away) of Arica and within easy walking distance to many restaurants, cafés and the main Morro viewpoint. It's also only about a CP2000 taxi ride from the bus station. Right next door is a small convenience store and two blocks always is a large supermarket.

We stayed here for three nights after coming from Cusco, via Arequipa and making the Peru / Chile border crossing from Tacna. So after more than 20 hours of bus travelling we were pretty shattered and wanted to splurge on something nice. We are very glad we picked Hotel Aruma as it was a perfect hotel with which to recharge and relax.

Pros: the hotel is almost brand new and was built in April 2013. The workmanship in the room and throughout the hotel is impressive and unlike many other hotels we had stayed in previously the owners of this hotel had shelled out for some really decent fixtures and fittings. The reception staff were really friendly and spoke good English, the wifi worked well and was fast and the breakfast was of really high quality and large portions. We also got a free drink on arrival which was a bonus and it was nice to sit outside on the balcony and watch the street scenes below.

The room was fantastic, a large and very comfortable king sized bed and great linen, although the super sized duvet was a little hot for our liking. The room was tastefully furnished with plenty of storage space. It also had a lovely garden view and was very quiet. The tv had many cable channels to choose from. The bathroom was immaculately presented with lots of hooks and rails and places to put toiletries. Best of all was the shower with plenty of hot water and the best shower pressure we had encountered in our South American travels.

The hotel also had a small pool and business centre, although we didn't use these facilities. All staff were very friendly although only the reception staff spoke english.

Cons: such luxury didn't come cheap, but at $US 110 a night we though it was definitely worth the spurge. Also housekeeping walked in on us without knocking one morning, but this was an accident and she was profusely apologetic. Other than that we found it impossible to fault this hotel.

There are probably cheaper hotels in Arica but I doubt there are too many as good as this one. Value for money score 10/10 and we would definitely stay again (PS the Pisco sours are super yummy !)

This hotel was spotlessly clean with a nicely done modern finish. The bathroom shower had easily controllable and stable hot water. The small pool / jacuzzi looked nice but is cool water, not warm. The rooftop bar has a nice breakfast with a view of the city. The room was quiet overall with the exception of Saturday night disco down the street. This hotel stands above the standard ones.

We stayed here coming from Bolivia into Chile and it was great! Staff were excellent , rooms wifi and shower were all top class and the breakfast was good! I'd highly recommend staying here as there is only 20$ in the difference between this and the other average hotels here!

Aruma Boutique Hotel is on Patricio Lynch 530. It is a lovely place. The staff are very friendly, efficient and willing to help with travel plans. One girl even phoned to reserve bus tickets for us then voluntarily wrote out directions as to how to pick them up, including which collectivos to take to get to the bus station. The room was lovely as well. Very clean, really nice linens and clean fluffy towels. Lots of hot water and a shower that drained well and did not leak onto the bathroom floor. Good wifi in the room and elsewhere in the hotel. Breakfast was good, with 3 or 4 types of fresh fruit, eggs cooked to order, 2 or 3 types of fresh fruit juice, tea, coffee, bread, jam and various cereals and yogurt. All fresh and nicely laid out. It was a treat staying here.

This hotel is in a good position close to the centre of the town. The staff, especially Arwen and Pricilla, and the woman serving in the rooftop cafe, were very friendly and helpful. The room was a little small in terms of where to put your clothes and rucksacks but we were only there one night before going up into the altiplano.

Since Alejandra greeted us at the reception until she bid us farewell the next day our stay was perfect.

The hotel is modern, well appointed, they have taken care of all details. It is comfortable, eco-friendly, relaxing and with a great view of the city highlight (el Morro) from the breakfast room, which doubles as the bar to enjoy the welcome drink in the evening.

Wifi works great. Location is perfect.

I would recommend and return to this place.
