Senyati camp is a good stop over for one night for backpackers. The PLUSES : - The elephant hide is really something amazing to experience !!! - You have your own ablution block - The camp sites are cleaned, and hot water is thanks to a personnal fire that an employee sets for you. The MINUSES : - The pool is not an amazing add and it looks like it is not maintain. - We gave away some clothes (we carried from Europe) and food as mentionned on their booking documents as a need for their Community. However, the reception agent was not friendly when we arrived, neither when we gave the stuff we brought for their "Community". I did not expect recognition or a medal for it, but just a smile or a thank you would have been welcomed. We also do not know where the stuff you give are going exept "to the village next by". Afterall, I think the big problem was that employees that welcomed us were not friendly at all... The big MINUS : On our ablution block we had read a paper presenting the list of activities Senyati can arrrange "Elephant ride" or "lions walking"....While on another poster you read "Senyati support ecotourism". This type of activities they can offer is unacceptble now a days, and it is nothing about ecotourism when you get informed of what is really behing elephant ride or even worse : lions walking .... !!

We stayed here for one night. The campsite was nice. We had hot water and the bathroom was clean. The only tricky thing was the door which opened in a weird way. But once we figured that out it was all good. We did not have a trash can but we thought it might be because of possible baboons. It was very dark at night, so sleeping was not a problem. Security is on shift the whole night. We enjoyed watching a herd of elephants going to the waterhole and back during dinner. Sadly there were no animals at the waterholes when we got there at night and in the morning. All night we could hear animals loudly around the camp. We arrived very late without a booking because we heard they still had free spots. The lady at reception was not rude but neither friendly. She seemed a bit annoyed. She just let us pay and did not explain anything about the campgrounds. This is why we did not find out about their great hideaway at the waterhole until the next morning.

My third trip to Senyati and Botswana, and my first in the rainy season. What an experience! From naughty baboons to flying termites, Senyati once again offered food for the soul. Talking of which, since my previous visit they've installed an eatery for guests - serving light meals and deliciously large cappuccinos. In my book there is little that tops enjoying the elephants at the watering hole with coffee in hand. It was wonderful experiencing the rains and the life that it brings. And as always - elephants galore! What a treat to have them right on your doorstep. My last night was especially great with about fifty of these magnificent bush dwellers appearing as out of thin air to enjoy the fresh water. As soon as one group had had their fill, another would magically shimmer into view - sometimes a couple of females accompanying youngsters, sometimes small groups of young males. I can sit all day watching them interact; it's pure meditation. This visit also taught me how to be completely silent and learn to listen to nature. The rains bring all kinds of things alive - from plants to the tiniest animals and almost everything makes a sound. The loudest being the frog choir around the watering hole. I should say mass choir, because as the watering hole turned into the river it most likely originally was, the number of frogs more than quadrupled. Oh what a beautifoil noise!

The place itself is really worth it! But the staff (reception & bar) & their services aren’t. On 28-12 we went to vic-falls with your shuttle. Around 11:30 we went back to the camp and got a burst car tire. Those things happen, but we had to wait at least 6-7 hours before we could finally return to Botswana. No help was offered from the colleagues on the shuttle and we stood in the bush in Zimbabwe for all those hours without food, drinks or signals. It's ridiculous how long we had to wait and how the driver was abandoned by her colleagues. We didn't get back to the campsite until 6:50 PM. the response: oh that's long. Glad we left!

I have stayed at the campsite for 5 nights in total. Location in between Namibia, Botswana, Zambia I Zimbabwe. Perfect gateway. Surrounded by wilderness, close to the nature. Sandy campsite with good amenities. Lot of trees with singing birds. The main attraction is the waterhole - dozens of elephants coming every night. Lots of activities. Friendly staff. One drawback is that WiFi works only during the day - one need to buy Botswana SIM (quite tricky procedure). Huge recommendation for Obi - the safari guide. I wish to come back.

A very nice camp with very friendly and supportive staff and management. The camp is well maintained and gives the opportunity to get very near to the animals. The day trips from the camp into the Chobe Reserve and on the Chobe River was an experience and well guided by experienced rangers from Senyati. I recommend a visit during your travels in the most beautiful Botswana.

Convenient (15/20 mins) from Kasane and the Kazungula Crossing (from Zambia) - approached from the South side and found the Road in a very poor state - 4-wheel drive essential. We were a self-drive (Tent on Land Cruiser Roof style) doing an Epic Trans-Africa Overland staying one night en-route to the Makgadikgadi Pans. Sadly we were plagued by Baboons, the Watering Hole had No Visitors & the nearest Game was 300/400 yds away - luck of the Draw, I know, but still disappointing. Each Camp Site (choose your own from those Unoccupied) was compact, cheek-by-jowl but with nice (& clean) ablution facilities, and their Bar was nice, packed with an expectant Crowd, overlooking the 'empty' watering hole. In the morning there was a an almost unseemly rush to hit the road

So disappointing. We were sent a pro forma invoice on which we paid deposit and then when we settled the remainder on site they added 18 % tax which we were never informed of. Still wondering whether this is legal in Botswana. Poor value for money. Unfriendly staff. They feed the meerkats and as a result one of them bit my toe as they are pests now. Don't believe that there is an oven in the self-catering units - you could prob fit two sandwiches in there. Campsites looked OK (we stayed in chalets)

Response from Anne van Pletsen, Owner at Senyati Safari Camp
Responded 27 Aug 2023
LINDY SINCLAIR You dont need Botswana! You need therapy! VAT is the law! It is not a choice, but the law!! (14%) VAT HAS to be paid and it is your sense of entitlement that did not only spoil you time at Senyati but most probably overshadows your whole life. Your poor family who has to live day in and day out with your moods! You sound like a bitter person angry with yourself and angry with the world At least one should not tell lies when you write a review. Lies hit you back in the face. 14% is not 18%! Your nosiness and entitlement even allowed yourself the liberty to sneak into campsites though you had no right to do so. Wind your neck in! If the mongoose nibbled at you, it is because you hurt them. Botswana is not for you. Stay in Johannesburg where you can enforce your entitlement on your suppressed workers. In Botswana people such as yourself is very last season. We do not advertise ovens in our Chalets. Please stay at home! Botswana can do without tourists such as yourself.

We absolutely loved our stay at this very special place. We had bungalows which were well positioned in the front which overlooked the plain and were in awe to see elephant, silently walking right past us towards the nearby waterhole. There is an underground viewing tunnel which enables one go right up the waterhole and watch the elephant drinking up close. The meerkat are so cute and tame and offer wonderful entertainment as they run around scratching for food while a trail of children follow them. There is an elevated restaurant and bar with the same spectacular views of the bush and the waterhole. The bungalows were well appointed and had everything we needed. We would definitely recommend staying here.
