Suspect this may be best accommodation in Tuvalu but only 1 star. Note that new buildings for the Pacific Forum in 2019 now block views to the sea so any old photos now have buildings in front of them. Hired a scooter from the hotel which was reliable and fairly new. A$5 per day. Arrived after a storm to find balcony door wide open and room floor flooded. Later other leaks showed so expect room floor still gets wet in rain. No hot water even though there is a hot tap so guessing hot water system failed but not replaced. Told no rooms have hot water. Communication by phone and email with hotel to book was very difficult and yet now seeing that normally one or two staff are at the front desk left me wondering why they never answer phones or emails. Bed and pillow comfortable. Hotel is very close walk from airport however it was raining on departure so asked for the hotel bus which failed to arrive as the driver would not answer his mobile and went off doing something else. We booked to have dinner at the hotel restaurant only to be told at 7pm they didn’t know if the chef would be coming so 7 of us went to 3Ts and had an excellent meal. These sort of experiences you can expect as a tourist in Tuvalu. If the hotel want to improve the guest experience and get more bookings they need to attend to these things.

Timeless Tuvalu is the brand for Tuvalu Tourism. One of the least visited countries in the world, Tuvalu is truely a travelersless destination. However, it was packed when I arrived in Funafuti on 15th December 2019 - Surprisingly crowded. The reason was Pacific Forum Leaders Meeting (PFLM). All the government heads from Pacific region, including the PMs of Australia, New Zealand, PNG, Fiji, Solomon, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu, Kiribati, etc. with big delegations, including foreign ministers and high level officials, were in 'Tiny Tuvalu'. Dozens of diplomatic crews and media people from around the world were here. The week was surprisingly busy week for all Tuvaluan. However, the next week was normal 'travelersless' again. A week long holiday was declared by the Government, thanking all officials and people of Tuvalu to make last week's PFLM a grand success. Things become normal for Tuvaluans. The hotel rooms are getting empty. The menu and food variety available in the country was shrinking day by day. Anyway, the PFLM gave a big boost to the tourism industry in Tuvalu. However, maintaining that is challenging. Let's hope this hotel and tourism industry in Tuvalu will get new travelers in 2020.

The old name of this Funafuti Lagoon Hotel was The Vaiaku Lagi Hotel. I stayed there for two nights. This hotel is located just a few minutes walk from The International Airport. In the room, there was no bath tub. Breakfast was included. I took every lunch and dinner at the restaurant in the hotel. All publick institution such as government office, post office and library, and banks and hotels are just located around the airport. I rented a bycle at a rent-a-cycle shop near the hotel, and visited both north and south end of this island. It just took for 30 and 20 minutes from the hotel.

Also called Funafuti Lagoon Hotel, it's the best on the island. Sluggish air conditioning with a high powered ceiling fan does the trick if you don't move around. Continental breakfast includes fresh fruit. You can pay bit extra for cooked that looked good. No internet, phone or text. Telecom provider for SIM was shut down for the week's sudden holiday along with the rest of the island including the post office and Museum. Needn't pay AUD 10 extra per night for the second floor view, it's been obliterated by government buildings. Updated photo attached. No beach access.

Although this hotel is very basic by international standards, I will definitely stay here again due to the friendly, helpful and sincere staff. We were in a difficult position - stranded for extra days by Fiji Airways, but we were very well looked after by the wonderful people here. Thank you
