I stayed at the hotel for two nights - one on either end of a recent trip to Panama with my parents and a friend. The booking process was simple and smooth, check-in was really easy with no surprises, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. We were very impressed with the cleaning measures in place during COVID-19 as we saw them constantly cleaning and wiping down surfaces at breakfast, and we even had to wear gloves to serve ourselves the breakfast at the buffet. We were also very grateful when they were able to put together little lunchboxes for us because we were flying out really early and wouldn't be able to stop for breakfast on our last morning. The rooms were all clean and comfortable. Good water pressure in the shower. And I liked that they had extra sanitizing wipes in each room too. We didn't get a chance to use the pool while we were there, but it looked nice from our window! Haha oh and the free parking right out front was super convenient. Very grateful for that! All in all a great stay and would definitely recommend if you need a hotel near the airport.

I stayed at the Courtyard Metromall for two days before a week long cruise and a one day after the cruise ended. Overall, it was a lovely hotel. Its brand new, I believe 6 -9 months old and it looks to be a place where a lot of business, conferences and events take place. In the first 2 days, the Courtyard had a number of adolescent sports teams that were playing at some regional event, what looked a communion celebration, a family reunion and a lot of business men mulling about.

The hotel is across the street from Metromall, a new mall with hundreds of stores and eateries. On the other side of the street is an older mall which may not look all that great but has the best deals.

The rooms were nice, dark wood and nice splotches of color. The bathroom was large which was very nice. I had all the room I needed to shave and wash my hair. There was plenty of space for storage and a safe and coffee maker as well.

I didn’t take pictures of the gym but there were at least 3 treadmills, an elliptical and some weights. Though the equipment looked a teeny bit dated, the room has 3 flat screen TVs to watch while you’re working out. The room also had a water cooler and towels to dry off.

The lobby/lounge area is a good size but ended up being a little small for the capacity that the hotel holds. The peak times are 5-8pm so everyone is downstairs, eating, drinking, over at the pods watching TV and on the computers. It’s a very ‘happening’ place but can be too much if you just want to relax. There are 3 computers that are free use for guests so I didn’t have much use for the in room WI-FI. The hotel has a big touch screen in front with travel info, weather stats and world news. I really liked that part.

The hotel has a tourist police officer 24 hrs a day/7 days a week though I never felt unsafe. The staff is very nice and accommodating and do speak English ( but Spanish is preferred!). The restaurant is very cheap compared to the other Marriott establishments so I ate room service to my heart’s content.

The only downside would be the walls. Room 326 ( I think) had very thin walls. While trying to sleep I could hear, cough, wrestling of plastic bags and even my neighbor going to the bathroom. It didn’t bother me much but I thought it was only fair to let everyone else know. However, when I stayed there on the way back I couldn’t hear a thing, so it might have just been that particular room.

Side note for those traveling to Panama City for the first time. Taxi for two people should not cost more than 15 US one way. I heard of a guest who paid 40 bucks and I thought it was ridiculous. If they offer you anything higher than 20, keep looking. The airport is filled with taxi drivers that will work with you.

Also feel that I need to point out that the mall is really the only thing close to the hotel. The airport is a 20 min ride or so and any tourist attractions about 45 min.

Of the hotels available in Panama City, this is one of the better choices. It is rather near to the airport (although there is no shuttle, only somewhat pricy taxis), near to a new mall with various reasonable choices to grab a bite to eat, and it has a cleanliness that exceeds even most US hotels. As such it is an oasis for a traveler used to US comfort.

Having said that, the appearance could have been a lot nicer if Marriott hadn't recently begun to deliberately downgrade their Courtyard hotels with lobbies that are supposed to be somehow more functional and "hip", but appear mostly just cheap. Instead of a stately check-in counter, they now have small-ish unprofessional looking service desks; not only do they look somewhat improvised, they also have a fake wood paneling that just screams "I am so cheap". Can't we go back to real wood, and/or tile and marble? Then, in various locations they have rather silly-looking artificial grass. It looks even more fake than the wood on the counter - and what's the point of artificial grass? Is this supposed to be attractive to their clientele, based on the idea that they spend all their time indoors and don't know what real glass looks like? And why grass, one of the lowliest and most common plants, instead of their earlier flower bouquets? And what happened to the restaurants they had - now they are replaced by a self-serve, cheap looking counter that is reminiscent of what you would see at a gas station.

In the past I have wholeheartedly enjoyed Marriott hotels for their taste and service. But what they are recently doing with their Courtyard hotels is a bold step in the wrong direction regarding taste.

Check in was brutally inefficient. Empty hotel, took 20 minutes to check in. Agent unfriendly. Happy to tell me I had just missed the restaurant closure at 9am and they have no room service. Generally dirty Public Areas and elevator. Was glad to leave and only stayed one night. Its option 2 for airport overnight stay and they cater to ZERO overnight travelers on a stay over. Room was ok overall.

Well, how do I start? Check in was a bit late, although we arrived after 3pm which is the check in time. Room and corridor had a weird stench, unsure if it's the carpets. Bathroom door was unable to close, and maintainance was unable to rectify, leaving it as is. It's a weird experience having persons in the room, hearing, and experiencing the ambience of the poop. Sound levels worked well...iykyk. Next day, realized the windows, that I thought was frosted, turned out to be dirty, with no sort of visibility. Card did not work for elevator and room. No room service available after 9:30PM. Wanted to go pool side later on just to sit, but that was closed as well, and we were told the manager would not allow us. There was no seating for guests outside in the foyer, and when asked if we can get a chair outside, again, same response, manager would not allow us, who was working for 2 hotels and would not be able to assist. We decided to have drinks inside our own room, but guess what, no ice dispenser on the floor, despite signage indicating it was there. Was forced to go to another floor to obtain. Glad card was still working at that time. Upon trying to order food, the phone was non responsive, and by that, we realized, there was no jack to the phone, and it was dead. Swore it should have been a wireless phone. We were however allowed to use the microwave in the lobby after having to go to the lobby to acquire food as well. Yay. 1 star

This hotel is very good, friendly people, fair price, the room is very good, and the location is excellent, just right in front of the Metromall shopping, very near to the airport. The Taxi is just around 15 USD.
Everything was good during my short stay in there, just stayed for a few hours to rest.
The only downsize was that they do have a transport to the airport but I could not use it, first they told me I needed to reserve which I did not so ok, second in my journey to the airport the transportation was not there, and this time I did reserve that's the only bad point I could mention from there, so if you plan to use this transportation service make sure they have it available, that's my only concern in there and the only problem I had. The rest of the stay was wonderful.

We were part of a tour group and stayed here for 3 nights. The rooms were clean with refrigerators. There was free internet. Great location next to the MetroMall (many high end American shops) and near the Johns Hopkins Hospital. The buffet was fine for us. It was an easy stay as the hotel layout and rooms were most efficient. This is where you stay when you don't want any surprises, but just want a comfortable, affordable stay.

We loved out stay at the Courtyard Marriott. All of the staff were helpful, attentive and friendly. Everything was well attended to and clean. Pool area was very relaxing. Restaurant was also pleasant. Access to hotel's intenet was good. The hotel does not have a regular shuttle service to and from the airport unless you request it. $15 for 2 and then add $5 for each additional person. Hotel is located 10 minutes from the Tocumen airport and 2 minute walk from the mall.
The 3rd floor of the mall has numerous fastfood places to eat. Quiznos was great! On the 1st floor is a large supermarket (Machetazo). Also, delivered to my room was a Happy Birthday dessert from the receptionist. Very kind and thoughtful gesture for my birthday while I was there. THANKS!!! We also stayed here 1 night before we returned to the US. All was GREAT!!
Here are our particulars: When we arrived we spent the 1st 2 days visiting Panama City. Day 1 walking and exploring Casco Viejo, eating lunch at Rene Café next to Plaza Independencia and back to the hotel for poolside relaxation. Day 2 visited Panama Canal at Miraflores Locks. Awesome museum here and had lunch while watching boats go through the canal. Then drove to Amador Causeway and walked around. Very pretty view of the Panama City from here. There were 6 of us so we hired a taxi through the hotel to take us. Day 3 we took a regular yellow cab back to the airport to pick up a rental car. Budget has the best prices. DON'T choose Avis at the airport!! They want a $5000 deposit!!! Many , many people walked away from them. Our travelling companion walked away also and went to Alamo. We had no problems with Budget or Alamo. We then drove to El Valle de Anton via Corredor Sur.
You can buy a Tarjeta card for the Corredor Sur (toll road) at the Mall at E Pago on the 3rd floor next to Costco. $10 total for the card will get you out of and back to the airport. You can add money to the card at the toll booths if needed. The toll booths do not accept change like in the US, you must have a card. El Valle De Anton is worth a visit if you like hiking and nature and much cooler temperatures. Takes about 1 hour 45 mintes to reach. We stayed 3 nights at Casa Mariposa and loved it and the sloths! (This will be another review on Tripadvisor). Our next leg was 3 nights in a condo on the beach at San Carlos. We were there for New Year's Eve and the fireworks and loved it. Stayed at RIOMAR.
I hope my rambling will be of help to future travelers. Please feel free to ask any questions.

Great Modern City. We asked for an escorted sightseeing tour of Panama City and the hotel suggested Jipson Chavena. He is a taxi driver at the hotel that speaks excellent English. He gave us a great tour and was very informative for a reasonable price. His phone number is 65806686. He told us things about Panama City that we did not learn from the tour group that we joined the next day. If you come in early for a tour, consider asking him to show you around. This is a great hotel. Good central location, located next to a beautiful modern mall with a supermarket. Good omelet station at breakfast that will custom make anything that you want for breakfast.

The is an expensive hotel that works for the old saying "you get what you pay for", which is often not the case in Panama.
From the bilingual people at check in to the waiters in the restaraunt, everyone is professional, knowledgeable, and accommodating.
The breakfast buffet was well stocked with quality foods and beverages. The "Corner Bar" just off the lobby made excellent sushi and beverages.
Everything, everywhere was constantly being cleaned and maintained and in the room-everything worked.
I read a lot of reviews of other hotels where people asked for things to be fixed or made better and it never happened. Not the case here. The coffee pot died one day and was replaced within the hour. I called and asked for extra pillows, no problem, delivered to the door.
The room was perfect, comfortable, carpeted, with a desk, a reading chair with a comfy hassock, good lights for reading, a mini fridge, air conditioning that was not loud, and nice artwork on the walls.
Big bonus is the hotel is right next door to the best shopping mall in the country as well as the finest hospital where we had business. The gym and pool were spotless, fresh towels were provided. Room service was prompt and well done.
The bathroom towels were large and fresh and the soaps and shampoos replaced daily.
in a world where "stuff happens" i could find no faults with this hotel during our 8 day stay.
again, if you are cutting corners and dont mind thin towels, crummy food, cold tile floors, mildew smelling rooms, loud traffic, and a scary neighborhood, then you need not stay at the Courtyard by Marriott in Panama City.
