I had been in this hotel 30 years ago when it was called Rodina . how 'changed Bulgaria, my goodness. and 'changed a lot the hotel. redone , well furnished, modern, a good 4 stars.the problem if anything and 'another.- it's handled in a bad way. there is the most complete anarchy. at the reception they put sad kids who are not interested in the customer at all. you ask them to change the towels because for three days no one passes, they tell you yes and do nothing, and you have to go back twice. ditto for cleaning. only on request and not even esaudita.chaos even at breakfast. they could be enough. but they run out of juices and no one changes them. the sandwiches disappear and no one replenishes. or arrive at 7 or eat nothing. in short, a hotel that could be great and all in all also central but managed in a bad way.

A lot of noise from music from the bar at the top of the hotel. Lasts until about 1:00 or 2:00 am (I was there from Friday to Saturday). I stayed on the 14th floor which is not even the highest, but it was still very noisy with bass/droning music. I saw other reviewers complaining about this since last year so apparently it hasn't stopped in all that time.
If you have an important meeting the next day and want to sleep on time, it is better to look for another hotel.

+1
Two of us returned to this hotel after staying one night outside of Sofia. There were several problems this evening.
1) Last time, we stayed at the third floor, room 321. When we arrived around 9 pm, they took us to the same room only to find out that the room was not cleaned. So we had to go back to the reception and got another room. So we went to the room 1220 and found trash (Covid test box) in the room and two strands of hair in the bathroom. Also, one of the bed covers had stains. We called the reception but they did not do anything. So we called again and then they said they will move us to another room. Finally, we arrived at the room 2005. It was fine but we could hear the music and bass sound from the top floor. It is very noisy.
2) The reception people tonight were very rude. They didn't smile at all. They did not have name tags on. (Maria and Ilia were kind and helpful the other days.) Tonight those front desk staff, they didn't let me check in as they thought I was part of the group tour people. They did not pay attention at all and just standing there. When I asked again, they finally listened and start processing me but did not apologize for the long wait. When we had to come back to change the room, no apologies either. They were unpleasant, rude and not willing to help.
3) Also I couldn't make it to the breakfast and I requested a refund that I am still waiting for 4rth day already have made me wonder if I could ever get the refund?
In summary, I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. It does not provide 4 star comfort or service.

This hotel is not recommended for the following facts: cold food, very unpleasant staff, at the Bar demand that I bring back the glasses , the second day we go back to the hotel and the room is not redone!!!!!! Trips or organized by a Swiss travel office (tour of Bulgaria) and 2 nights we ate the same menu! But what 4 stars and???

Me and my boyfriend stayed at Grand Hotel Astoria and had a great time. The restaurant offered modern and sophisticated cuisine and dishes were served in minutes. The hotel itself is huge and with a lobby giving it a luxurious look and glitz. For those who are interested, there is also a casino on the lobby level and a disco on the top floor.

Considering this hotel is favoured by the tour companies, this hotel is a disgrace. Wiring coming out of the walls, a shower that floods and taps that are directly under the shower head so you either burn or get frost bite. There’s no swimming pool, limited TV channels (they didn’t even televise Roland Garros). The worst breakfast imaginable that was overcrowded and tasteless, limited food. There were numerous tour groups and once that breakfast door opened it was like fighting to the death to get a piece of toast. The group that was near us was hoarding food (10 slices of bread per plate, they took slabs of cheese)…and the wait was over 30 minutes when we only get an hour before our tour bus leaves…do not stop here under any circumstances. The hotel should be condemned and demolished.

The hotel is newly refurbished and hasn’t yet hit its stride. The staff are uniformly helpful where they can be, but the place is hopelessly overheated and they won’t turn the air conditioning on or the heating down. The only solution is to open the window the few inches allowed and put up with the noise of traffic all night. Other low spots are the cold scrambled eggs for breakfast and poor room cleaning. Probably best to go elsewhere until they’ve sorted out the snags.

Hotel with great location, is about 10min walk from the vitosha, has a very close ATM to withdraw Bulgarian money, excellent shower, nice and clean room.
It has a casino inside the hotel on the long and a nightclub on the top tb floor.
The breakfast really is tunultured, you have to arrive at 7:00 and run in line. There's a cell there waiting to open. Normal food, nothing special but it was all delicious.
The employee who took the bags was very insistent in the tray, we had just arrived and we had no Bulgarian money, he went after us on the street to take it to an electronic box or exchange, I found it exaggerated.
For those who do not want to eat in the restaurant of the hotel, there is an excellent pizzeria right near the street that goes down to vitosha which has fair price.
