Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great place to stay in Suva. It's an old colonial building with paintings, old posters and photographs on the walls, wooden floors, high ceilings built in the hey days of the colonial era. Best feature - purpose built architecture of those colonial type covered verandah buildingsto ensure a nice natural breeze flow. They don't have a restaraunt but its a short stroll to the Holiday Inn and Grand Pacific Hotel restaurants and bars, ocean side pool, the museum and its Ginger Cafe set on the botanical gardens, and Paradiso restaraunt. The United Club pub is just nearby also and The Bowling club if you want to have a beer "like a local". The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.

At ~FJ$20/night, I obviously adjusted my expectations. At this price point however, I would have expected but did not get: - Warm water/shower pressure - Working power point in my room - Clean linen (or indeed, linen at all) - Clean floors On top of this, we were in a large group and the check-in experience took 10 x as long as it should have (easily over an hour). The staff insisted on working their way down a list and doing everyone sequentially one-by-one, including long check-in forms. Suggestions to hand out forms to all at once to speed up the process were ignored or not understood. A good price point for someone travelling cheap, but just be aware that even at that price point it’s a loose ship being run.

I booked this hotel/hostel due to good feedbacks but those were dating back to its long gone good times. The interior is a bit run down, there is no wifi, the shared bathrooms were not cleaned while I was there, electricity for the fan is only available at night. The room was almost bare of anything: there was just a bed and a table but no chair. As a backpacker I didn’t mi d that too much but together with the fact that rooms had no power outlet. Phones could be charged at the only 2 available power outlets in the lobby which were mainly used by the staff. The shared kitchen is a nice feature. Wooden walls separated the rooms thus you could hear everything going on next door or in the lobby. Upon arrival the staff didn’t bother explaining anything or giving a quick idea of where, e.g. the shared bathrooms could be found. Quite a few walls were wallpapered with countless house rules. I felt uncomfortable throughout the stay also due to a night guard sleeping in the lobby — who I met on my way to the toilet. He was friendly but I felt awkward in my nightdress.

South Seas is not luxury, but then you are not paying luxury prices. It is convenient, beautiful old building, with friendly welcoming staff & clean with a lovely veranda & lounge. I would have loved a hot shower, but showers were cold & only available at certain times due to lack of water pressure (think this was a Suva city problem). My room was spartan, spacious & clean - my mattress was extremely thin - but I actually had a good night's sleep! The staff helped me book a taxi in the morning & were friendly & helpful throughout my stay. They had also responded to my initial booking enquiry promptly & answered their phone when I called - unlike other budget accommodation options I had tried to contact. It is conveniently located around the corner from the Fiji Museum, which also has the Ginger Café on its premises - handy for grabbing a meal during the day & set in the beautiful Thurston Gardens. It is a lovely walk down from South Seas past Albert Park or through the Thurston Gardens to the Grand Pacific Hotel & the Old Parliament & into town along Victoria Parade. Walk into town & catch a taxi back up the hill to South Seas. Would I go back - absolutely!

This old school boarding house-style hostel/hotel is located within walking distance of the main sights of Suva. A charming weather board Heritage Building providing a glimpse of a time gone by. If walls could talk... layers of white paint keep many secrets here. Rooms are ultra clean and asylum-spartan. You will not be able to hurt yourself as everything is either bolted down or it has been removed. All rooms have overhead fans and electric lights. There are no electric sockets so don’t even think of charging any of your electric apparatus. Hand those in at reception if they need to be charged. The long veranda is deceptively welcoming for high tea and Pink Gins. Alas this is self catering 101, where you can whip up your version of tropical treats in a communal kitchen.

Budget accommodation in a quaint building with no major failings (except there is no Wi-fi available). The double room we had was basic but fine with a fan but no AC. Shared bathrooms were a bit dilapidated but clean and functional. Staff were fine, although we didn’t need there help with anything in particular. There were shared kitchen facilities which looked fine, although we didn’t use them. Communal areas are actually quite charming with old furniture and pictures. Overall, a useful place to stay if you are passing through Suva on a tight budget and don’t need much except a place to stay. There isn’t much competition in Suva at this price.

It definitely has this charming style, the private rooms are clean, no problems. The kitchen is convenient and it is not so far away from the city center. But the staff is very lazy, don't care about anything. And we stayed here 2 times fr a few days each time. First time the night staff invited friends and they were drinking and watching rugby with the sound full on until late at night, just next to our room. Their friends were'nt customers of the hotel. It's a shame if they were putting a bit of effort into their work it would be a nice place to stay.

My partner and I stayed in the private room. The positives of this hotel is that it is budget and close to the city. The negatives were the staff were had very poor customer service, our room was infested with ants and the cleanliness was questionable. If your budget allows, I would recommend staying somewhere else.

We stayed twice, rooms are generally clean, though sheets sometime have stains on them. No power outlets in the rooms, only in lounge. The rooms are fan cooled (no AC), which was ok. Kitchen is fine and basic (not always the cleanest). Bathroom is shared, not really hot, no curtains in men's showers. Staff was helpful and let us check in late at night and store our bags during the day after check out. Felt safe there and there is security guy in the night. Probably best price you can get in Suva.

The private rooms allow a good night sleep, although some mattresses need to be replaced. The hotel has a good kitchen for preparing your own meals, yet is close enough to many restaurants in the city center. Good night security and pleasant reception staff.
