We were welcomed by the lovely Michelle and Andy who had helped arrange for us to be picked up from the airport. The accomodation and facilities had everything we needed. The beds were large and comfortable with each bedroom having its own bathroom. The fabulous views and pool were enjoyed and used regularly everyday. The facility is very private especially if you get a group together and book the whole place out. Great location being handy to other resorts, beach and town. The hosts very accomodating. Thanks Michelle and Andy we will definitely be rebooking here for our next trip to Rarotonga.

Was our first time on the island and we fortunately came across black rock villas! The place was super clean with everything we needed. The view overlooking the sea was insane and I did not get out of the infinity pool the whole time it was that good. Snorkeling was amazing just down at black rock and the beach was one of the best on the island. Perfect location and view and pool. Michelle and Andy were great hosts and was so nice to have our own place rather than in a resort! Will definitely be back

We spent time in one of the Black Rock Villaa and would absolutely recommend them. The villa was very well appointed and very clean with every amenity, and the beds were so comfortable. The villa looked out on the pool a few steps away and the pool was the nicest we've used in Rarotonga. The views from the villa were superb looking out over the lagoon - we spotted a whale. Black Rock is fairly close to Avarua which was great. Another plus was having free wifi and good TV reception. A great place to stay.

Thank you so much for your kindness and collaboration; it's much appreciated. It was a real pleasure to have you both with us, and to see Gary in the pool as happy as a fish in water. Best wishes to you.

We loved our week’s stay at Black Rock Villas. Michelle and Andy made us feel very welcome. The villas were very well appointed and clean, with everything you need for self-catering. We also had a small car as part of our package. We loved the private infinity swimming pool and being able to go to the beach across the road. We would definitely stay there again.

Spent a delightful week with a friend from New Zealand in BlackRock Villas on Rarotonga. Two spacious villas (on the west coast) with a great infinity swimming pool with a beautiful view on the Pacific.
Our hosts Holger and son Sven (Holgers Dutch wife was on holidays) did everything to make life even more pleasant than it already was. There were books and DVD's available and every morning we started with papaya's fresh from the luscious gardens which surround this little paradise. Each villa has two double bedrooms each with its own suite toilet & shower facilities. The kitchen offers all the gear for a decent meal, but there are also nice little restaurants on walking distance.
Go and look for yourself and enjoy! One speaks English, German and yes, also Dutch!

If you would like a place to chill out then Back Rock Villas is for you. My 21 yr old son and I stayed for just on a week, during this, the supposed cyclone season.

The weather has been almost perfect and we have enjoyed our stay tremendously. The Pool here at Black rock Villas is exceptional and we lost count how many times we went for a swim and didn't want to get out.

Black rock, which gives the Villas its name, provides a great, safe little natural pool in the sea for a dip, immediately across the road from the Villas.

The Villas are well appointed and very comfortable, lovely views and handy to just about everything on the island.

The Gardens surrounding the Villas are lush and green and the Owners keep the property immaculate. Our Hosts, Holger, Mieke and Sven couldnt do enough for us, from an impromptu lesson in husking a coconut to sharing their extensive knowledge of the island and what there is to do and see.

The restaurant, Tuoro, is open for Saturday and Sunday nites only and it pays to book in early as seats are limited and it is often frequented by other ex pats and business owners from around the island. The service is more personal as the nightly bookings are not all about bums on seats but personal attention and absolutely great food.ensures a wonderful indoor/outdoor dining experience.

The "devine chocolate mousse" is unable to be taken off the menu whenever it is revised as Mieke has to face so much opposition!

So if you want a place to truly relax, have your own space, great value for money especially for families with awesome hosts then Black Rock Villas is the place to stay.

I would highly recommend that if you want a holiday of relaxation then you do not stay at Black Rock Villas. Prior to my arrival there I was dealing with a very nice man the owner of Black Rock Villas Holger. When we arrived Holger sadly was no longer at Black Rock and was back in NZ and his son is now in charge. Now its not like we were party animals, quite the opposite in fact, I was in Raro for my wedding and staying at our villas was our parents and other family members. Sven the now manager of this property could not moan or tell us off enough.... no jumping in the pool, no bikes on the lawn, don't splash too much because I am sick of filling the pool up, stop using so many towels i'm sick of washing them etc etc. We felt like we were kids and had an angry parent looking after us. To top it off we had prior approval from Sven to host an after wedding bbq lunch at the villas which we did successfully. We tidied up and left to come back to NZ. We we arrived back we see a charge of $600 had been made by Black Rock Villas. I questioned Sven about this charge and he claims we stole kitchen utensils!! 1 frying pan, 1 pillow case, 1 pillow, 1 pillow protector (whatever this is), wine glasses and towels. Why we would want to steal such minor things and how we would fit these things in our luggage I do not know!! After numerous emails between myself and Black Rock he has still not refunded this money he has illegally charged and we are taking matters further which is going to end up costing him in the end. I am a travel agent in NZ and I would 100% recommend you do not stay here, it would of been a far better holiday if the owner was friendly and relaxed and did not march around like an angry teacher the whole time. I am very disappointed in Sven as his parents seemed so friendly and nice and their son is going to run the place into the ground as word of mouth is a very powerful thing especially in the industry I am in and especially that there were approx 70 guests at our wedding who visited the place over the week who know our story and live all over NZ, not a wise move Sven.

Orinally settled on Rarotonga after investigating stopover options
between LAX and AKL. Ruled out Tahiti due to cost and the fact that we have kids ages 10/13 and Tahiti accommodation is aimed at couples/honeymoon market. This proved to be a wise decision.

Arrived in Rarotonga after a 12hr flight from LAX, rented jeep and drove to previously booked accomm only to be told that owner had forgotten to make the reservation and would not let us stay -hacked off to say the least!

However luck was on our side as we had passed the Black Rock Villas en route. The property consists of 2 elevated villas very close to the airport. The property had caught my eye on previous internet searches but I had ruled it out as it was near the airport, local beach not great and it was more expensive than similar properties on the island.

Don't let these things put you off....Heathrow has more flights in 5 mins than this place sees in a week! The island is very small and good beaches are never more than a few mins drive. Our kids loved the Black Rock, 2 mins walk, where the locals jump from rocks into a deep channel. Also it is definitely worth paying a little extra for quality accommodation. Being away from the only road on the island is a good thing also.

Anyway, the bottom line is this is a terrific place and the owners (German/Dutch couple, New Zealand citizens) could not have been more friendly or helpful. The 2 adjacent villas are identical and very private. They are 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom with large living/kitchen opening on to large verandah looking out over the pool and the sea beyond.

There is also an outdoor oven and BBQ and rear garden with clothes drying facilities. The washing machine is in the second bathroom and proved to be a godsend as this was our final stop on a round the world trip and we arrived with mountains of dirty washing which was all clean before arriving home and starting work!

The owners provided us with fresh fruit every day from the garden, snorkel gear, and a good selection of DVDs for the kids which is handy particularly in the rainy season. We were there in January and the weather was great, 26-29 degs and v little rain.

The pool is fantastic and immaculately maintained (albeit unfenced), the owners also run a small restaurant on their own verandah at the weekend although there are many restaurants close by.

Some advice about Raro:

This is still a very undeveloped island and extremely laid back. Don't go there expecting luxury and fantastic service etc, even though there are a handful of luxury resorts they are very small scale.

The 2 supermarkets in town are very basic, fresh fruit, salad and veggies very scarce, although you may find better supplies in smaller villages around the island.

The people are extremely friendly.

All in all, well worth a visit

Highly recommended - this is a quiet, beautiful location overlooking the lagoon and ocean, with only 2 villas and a restaurant on the property. Our villa was well-appointed, and very comfortable - the ocean breezes blew through the rooms and the fans overhead meant the temperature was always pleasant. It was an easy stroll down the driveway and over the road to the beach to snorkle or stroll or watch the sunset. We stayed for a week and ate at the restaurant on the Saturday and Sunday nights - the meals were the best we had while in the Cook Islands. We didn't need to hire a car - instead we used the local bus that travels around the island every hour for NZ4. Some of the restaurants and attractions even picked us up and dropped us back afterwards. We took a fabulous day trip to Aitutaki, which included bus pickup, the return flight, a 4WD tour of Aitutaki and a wonderful lagoon cruise on The Vaka - gourmet lunch, swimming and snorkeling in a beautiful lagoon, plus Polynesian entertainment. And the weather was so mild!
