AIRPORT MOTEL-Tiare Village is nestled in the secluded wooded hills of Rarotonga, approx 2.5 kilometres from AVARUA, the main town on the inland road, north side of the island. We are conveniently situated 1.5 kilometres from the airport, shopping centre, banks, market, nightlife, the Cross Island Walk and the beach in Nikao. We have a reputation with travellers and tourists alike, as being a friendly, clean and comfortable establishment. Fresh fruit (pawpaw, passion fruit, coconut, bread fruit, bananas, mangos, avocados, guavas and chillies) can be picked fresh from the trees in our garden when in season. We like to introduce each of our new guests hopefully to make one feel more comfortable. It can be lonely travelling on your own. You can chose to join the other guests Or you can read a book and admire the peaceful tropical surroundings and relax.

The worst place one could stay. We were not informed that we had to stay in the bus. When we arrived she denied and said she made it clear when we booked. She charged a 2percent on credit card without informing us. The showers were cold. The beds were dirty and had bed bugs. We asked if we could have a different room and she lied to us saying it was fully booked. The village was empty. The swimming pool was dirty. She gave us the bicycle for free and insisted I put this in my review that she had been generous to offer me the hazardous bicycles. Please stay somewhere else as you can pay cheaper or just the same thing some where else.

I did an internship on Rarotonga and as Tiare Village is one of the few accommodations affordable for students I stayed there for nearly 2 months.

For this purpose it was the perfect place!
Adrienne, the manager is exceptional helpful, friendly and well-organised.
On my day of arrival she showed me around in town and helped me to find a place to do my shoppings. Also during the wohle time of my stay, Adrienne helped me quite often.
As she offered me the opportunity to move to one of the pool-units, I can not really tell how it is like to stay in the main house, but to me it seemed to be very clean and save.

The pool unit was fully equipped with everything and I was always well supplied with fresh towels and linen.

Tiare Village is located behind the airport on a hill and surrounded by fruit trees. Guests are allowed to pick the fruits they like and you should definitely use this opportunity!
The town is within walking distance, it takes about 30mins to go there; to the beach maybe 20mins, but I recommend to rent a scooter as the streets are not really suitable for pedestrians and with a scooter you reach everything within a few minutes.
You might be looking for an accommodation directly at the beach, but the only budget accommodation located on the beach is the Backpackers which is unfortunately neither clean nor save.
Tiare Village is definitely quieter, but there are always some people around if you are looking for company.

I had a great time and if I return to Rarotonga within the next years I will definitely stay there again.

After a three-week holiday in NZ, we thoroughly enjoyed 5 days at Tiare Village. Adrienne, the manager, was very helpful, friendly and kind. She picked us up at the airport (even though our flight was a bit delayed), and provided us with very helpful advice and suggestions for our stay. She drove us downtown in the morning where we were able to rent a motor scooter, which proved to be an excellent choice for independent transportation on the island. Adrienne also helped us make several other arrangements, including getting us to the airport for our flight home. She went beyond the call of duty in helping us retrieve a lost item (we had left in another location on the island) in the last few hours before our flight because she had the necessary personal contacts!

We had one of the poolside units, which included an adequate kitchenette and its own full bathroom. Compared to many other backpackers in which we've stayed, this was wonderfully palatial, clean and airy! The pool was clean and refreshing, and the well-kept grounds lovely, with many different palms and other trees as well as flowering bushes.

As other reviewers have noted, Roratonga is well-populated with wild chickens, and the roosters, while gorgeous to look at, do crow! Aside from that (easily remedied with some ear plugs), the setting is wonderful – feels “off the beaten track” and away from traffic. Even though it is near the airport, we were not aware of plane traffic. The Whale and Marine Museum is a short walk, and downtown Avarua with its many shops and restaurants is not much further. If you are there on a Saturday, don't miss the Saturday Market! Much for sale, and live performances too!

We would highly recommend Tiare Village to anyone who wants clean, quiet, low-key accommodations for a lovely stay on Roratonga.

I stayed here in September 2008. I was dorming in the main house with the DAUGHTER of the owner. She violated my personal space and belongings by going through everything I owned and stole ALL my emergency cash on hand. I had JUST started out my trip so I had US $300 buried in different place throughout my bag. She was the only one who had access to the locked room and when I reported it to the police, they informed me that she is known for this type of behavior and has been reprimanded in the past. The owner just said I should have given her the cash to put in the safe, which I agree and did from then on, but I thought the safest person to room with would have been the daughter. There are much better hostels in Rarotonga and I suggest you stay elsewhere!

Kia Orana I do not and will not tolerate “theft” period! It was me whom advised you to go to the police. An interview was held and nothing came from their investigation and your views unfounded. As you well know there were 2 girls sharing your dorm during your stay and you befriended both. If there was proof without a doubt I would certainly have sort for an arrest irrelevant the relationship. When a review of this manner is placed on line it is with the intent to cause damage for the hurt this caused you. This I understand. But to defaime my daughter without proof is slander. Tiare Village is important to me. Safety and security as commonsense prevails is the responsibility of mine to advise and my guest to take up the advice/recommendation. I am sure after 3 years since this happened you have become more mindful of the unfortunate pitfuls. Although this was a one-off situation in the 10 years I have managed the Village I am vigilant of security surrounding my guests even to the point of been told to stop nagging. Tiare Village has a good reputation which I work very hard at. Posted reviews whether positive or negative is good. The negative is also welcome as I prefer to view this as a need to revisit / upgrade or maintain aspects of the business for the betterment of future guests. I hope probable travelers keep reading the following reviews posted. Kia Manuia..

Ok, so we spent two and a half months travelling in the Cooks, and this, by far, was the worst place we stayed. And we are not "sensetives"- we stay in budget places, happy on a matress on the floor if the hostess is nice. But Tiare Village...

Here´s why you should stay away: Firstly for keeping your health in order, secondly for your sanity. There will be mould on the carpets, on the walls and in the showers, there will be mould on the floors and roof. There will be roosters in the garden, koo-kooing from around 5 in the morning, (some of the chickens walked into our kitchen and stole our food, funny, huh? Feels reall sanitary)
What´s worse? In the centre of the bungalows there is a pool witch is, literally, a spawning place for mosquitoes, so you will be bitten, oh- and dont expect the windows in your room to have closing mecanisms.

We stayed four nights, and not for one night did we sleep, because of the people having parties in the room next door, and there was never any staff there, so no one to complain to. Oh, the ever awake rooster´s never ending. kik-a-ricki.
Were we articularily unlucky?
The staff was absent for most of the day- the rent-out biscycles in such a condition they are a serious hazard on the road.

The place is very far away from the town and any of the beaches.

You deserve better than this! There are places in the same price-range on Muri beach, try Are Mango for example.

The woman who owns this place is from New Zealand. She tends to discriminate guest based on nationality. She tried to give me the worst room and insisted that I had stayed in the worst dirty room located inside an old bus. She treats guests like trash! Some people who have money are treated better some people with less money or from certain countries are treated worse. There are notices posted all over the place forbidding you do this and that and telling you how you should for example hold a coffee mug. She is extremely picky person watching you all the time. Don't go there!! Go to Raro Backpackers on the beach. Also the location isn't that great.

Small room, very noisy fan, and so interrupting security alarm...I counl'd sleep whole night cause of that. And esp. very rude owner. She lie always. There's shared room also, but she said there's not shared room. No such a room, not no availability. Just she want to get money more, that's all.. And she never clean up the toilet. And she would smile at once before you pay, after paying, nothing. And no free luggage storage. Even I stayed for 1 week, she ask 2 more stay for luggage storage. No information about that even on website. Haha. Money makes people like that.

Morning Hakjin.. When you first came to Tiare you did not have a booking and began to barter the room rate not once but three times and as I suggested it be better that you seek alternative accom.. I showed you the room prior to you deciding to stay and as this was all I had available you chose to stay for 7 days. (oh dear you neglected to mention I did give you a discount for the 7 day stay). Later you advised that you will be flying to the outer islands and you asked if you could store your luggage here till your return – I advised you as it is also advertised in our website – it is only for guests returning to stay at the village that I provide free storage otherwise you will have to take your luggage with you.. You suggested upsettingly that you will stay another night on your return and as I advised I do not have availability. You suggested that you wanted to then stay in a shared room – I do not provide dorms as I told you from the outset. Tiare Village provides exactly what we advertise. Enjoy Aitutaki it is a beautiful island..

Bad service and bad quality of rooms. You are pretty much on your own there and seems that things are not working that well. But, if you are a backpacker and do not mind about filthy rooms, then just go for it, prices are ok. They have a lot of roosters around there that make a loud noise almost all the time.

Do yourself a favor: double your budget and have some quality for yourself.

Kia Orana Matt You booked and stayed with us for 4 days. One should never pay to stay in filthy accommodations and advise others to do so and the prices are ok??? your message is confusing.. Cleanliness within the accommodation and the surroundings of Tiare Village is priority!! I recall two incidences: 1. was on your arrival.. we were there to meet you as per advised and waited 1/2 an hour then left..unfortunately with bookings I do not recieve photos of my guests and you were not standing at the normal arrival area as I advised you to do.. however on my return to Tiare I rang the airport office to enquire if you had boarded the flight they advised you did not, then I asked the reservation clerk at the office to check if anyone was standing around and they verified there was and I asked them to ask if your name was Matt and they advised it was you and within minutes I was at the airport to meet you.. the second incident: where we were missing each other during office hours - I was cleaning one of the units as you well know.. In acommodation such as mine I multi task.. however for the inconvenience I offered a free hour internet usage and an apology.. which you took and acceptable gratefully.. I guess this is what you refer to as bad service???.. I call it "over and above the call of duty".. As for the roosters they do not belong to Tiare Village this is a common problem all over the island in that regard I do sympathise unfortunately nature is what it is.. Keep it real Matt! Thank you Tripadvisor for bringing this review to our attention. Manager Tiare Village

Don't know how those good reviews occurred, the suites by the pool may be nice, the garden with fruits and the gardener were nice, but the privates in the front house, seriously are not "rooms" at all. Divided by the walls of some kind of thin boards that doesn't go all the way to the top, you will have half fans and half windows with other rooms, cause it used to be one big room, and you can hear sounds from other rooms and bathroom quite clearly. And another tiny "room" next to the receiption just like sleeping at the counter, you can even hear the owner typing. The owner is very strict, doesn't allow people to store luggage after check out. Almost 1 hour before my check out, I was approached by the owner knocking at the door of the public bathroom in the middle of taking a shower, to make sure I will pack my backpack on time, not leave the bag to walk around, and even offered to send me a taxi, that was very rude. No atomonspher, only saw 3 people when staying. And you can hear 1 or 2 very loud sound of the plane flying by in the middle of night. The motel is in the middle of nowhere, over 1.5 km to the bus station or shopping complex or beach, not on the outer circle that a bus would pass. You can find much nicer privates of similar price, more conveniently located and closer to the beach, like Aremango, or on the beach like Rarotanga Backpacks, privates and dorms. Most flights arrive/depart in the middle of night but you don't have to stay close to the airport like this one, as the farest place will be 20 something minutes, and they all offer pick-ups of similar price or even free.
