Located right on the beach on the western side of Rarotonga, Napa Beachfront Hideaway is a very relaxing and secluded accomodation. The bungalows are clean and very well furnished for all needs, and everything is kept on a "humane" size (do not expect a five star industrial resort here !). The beach is very agreeable. Deep enough for swimming, good for snorkelling and most of the time devoid of other people. It is not very far from groceries and restaurants, but you will need to walk a bit or better rent a bicycle. There is no airconditionning, but the fan is enough to make it through the night. Overall, a small but very nice accomodation. It might not be the "best" beach spot on all Cook Islands, but it has an unbeatable value for money ratio and makes paradise affordable.

In March 2008, we found we could cover the cost of a trip to the Cook Islands with our accumulated Airpoints Dollars, so we booked return trip flights from Wellington to Rarotonga. A couple of months later, while searching the Internet to learn about things to do while in the Cook Islands, we discovered the Cooks are a popular destination to get married. Since Joy and I had previously discussed getting married sometime before the end of the year, we began planning our wedding for December in Rarotonga! We decided to find a smaller, more intimate place on the island to spend what would essentially be our combined wedding and honeymoon. It was through this effort that we discovered Napa Beachfront Hideaway.
If you prefer a resort hotel in paradise, there’s plenty on Rarotonga from which to choose. We figured, though, what point are a swimming pool and fitness centre when you have warm coral reef waters only 10 metres from your doorstep? Satellite television, daily housekeeping, and room service and are well worth trading off for the privacy, serenity and romance offered by Napa Beachfront Hideaway. Located on the western side of the island, this property’s secluded beachfront location offers a perfect view of Rarotonga's magical sunsets. The three modern bungalows are well-spaced, stand-alone buildings set around a lush tropical setting. Each is spacious with a high ceiling and covered porch and features a fully-equipped kitchen and modern bathroom with shower. By moped or car, Napa Beach Hideaway is only 5 minutes from the main golf course, 10 minutes from the airport, and 15 minutes from Avarua, the main town on Rarotonga. Other amenities offered by the larger hotels on the island—e.g., high-speed Internet, spa and massage service, and tennis courts—are all also within a short distance.
A key feature of Napa Beachfront Bungalows, one which the large hotels on the island can never match, is the personalized service offered by the manager, Jill, and her partner, Moko. When we arrived from New Zealand, Jill picked us up at the airport and greeted us each with a traditional island lei. Fresh flowers and fruit were also provided in our bungalow when we arrived. Jill made all of the arrangements for our wedding, some in the last 24 hours before the ceremony. The day after we arrived, Moko provided transport for us to the local court house to apply for our marriage license. Later, after we’d hired a jeep-like vehicle to get around, Jill took us shopping in Avarua to find beach wedding wear for the groom. After our wedding, in which Jill and Moko stood as our witnesses, we spent our days swimming with Jill and fishing with Moko, and the two of them often joined us in the evenings at Papa Slow’s bar and deck on the Napa Beachfront Hideaway property. Jill and Moko made our wedding and honeymoon an experience we’ll never forget!

I came to get away from everything for 3 nights over easter and found it beautifully relaxing. With only 3 bungalows it is not a huge resort, and the other occupants were quiet and friendly people. The beach is right there, and the constant sound of waves breaking on the reef lulled me to sleep! A lot of my pain disappeared over this time! The hostess is so friendly (welcoming hug!) and helpful, taking me to a car rental place and showing me where things were. Tip: Take reef shoes with you, since there are stonefish in the water.

We stayed actually next door at the Reefcomber sunset motel which is not listed in rarotonga as it just cma under management by the napa beacfront hideaway. The latter was booked and they moved us next door. Pros) 1) amazing value. we were absolute beacfront and complete privacy. no thoer place can provide this at this price 2) metua and sel were the kindest hosts 3) beautiful snorkeling at our footsteps 4) location is perfect to go into the city and restaurants, close to the airport
Cons) 1) forgot about us when we came to check in at 7am, and had overbooked us, a trivial oversight 2) the actual napa beacfront is 3 units and there is much less privacy. better to book the whole lot together if you want privacy. 3) the units are well appointed with free telephone. although we did not get one where we were and had to buy a sim card. the airconditioning was not working 4) basic self contained units, but extraordinary value. the units they operate at sunset reefocmber are more private and more beachfront if you can get them.

There are 3 Beachfront Hideaway bungalows. We stayed in the one closest to the beach. The size is great for 2, the porch is overlooking the lagoon. 25m to the water's edge. Just gorgeous!! This is a great deal! Walk to 5 restaurants and one small grocery store. RENT SCOOTERS!! It's FUN and you will need them. Bus goes clockwise and anti clockwise once/hr. Stops where you flag it down. The managers Jill and Steve are just wonderful! Friendly, helpful and fun! They had New Zealand TV there interviewing Steve about his Fishing trips as he is the captain and the master fisherman of Capt. Moko's Fishing Charters....If you fish... GO! They put on a great party and invited us...they BBQd local fish, (Barracuda and Parrot fish) and had homemade succulent local food. They took their Ukuleles out and played and sang... it was a great time. Oh, and we will be on NZ TV some time in the future! What a deal! :-) I think Jill will do anything for you to make your stay the best! She is absolutely the greatest! We will DEFINITELY come back and stay at NAPA! Don't forget your Camera, your Reef shoes, your snorkel gear and if you go in the hot season, your mosquito coils, If you walk down the street about 10 min south, you'll find a grocery store, next door they have pints of local dark rum...it's great! YUM! Didn't do the bar scene, don't know.... Dinner - You need to go to the Flame tree in Muri Beach. Great food and drinks...You must get the "RASPBERRY MULE" cocktail..It's one of the best drinks I have EVER had!! I will have to make it myself...can't wait! Oh, and say Hi to the resident gecco! (no, they don't bite) I think he was there 3 years ago as well?? :-) We can't wait to go back to Napa and Raro...We just love it! It's definitely PARADISE :-) PAM AND MIKE, SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA

We have been to Napa 5 times now since 03, getting engaged there in 05,a great location with fantastic beach front and stunning sunsets. Bungalows are always clean and very functional with Capt Moko, Jill and Papa Slow being great friends that look after your every need. Weather is normally fantastic, food is fresh and local ( try the Humu's ), and the beach front bar is a great place to have a cool drink and watch the sun go down. Make sure you go fishing with Capt Moko, went quite a few times and had some great catch's of Tuna, Wahoo, Mai Mai to mention a few......I'll be back for the lost Marlin soon! If you want to relax in the sun on your own beach, surrounded by coconut trees with your own bar behind you then don't go anywhere else!!! Daryl and Kate, Cambridge, UK

Unfortunately we only got to stay at Napa for 2 nights, but we loved every moment we were there!! :) Our gorgeous little bungalow was very privately positioned and who could fault that view?! We spent most of our time on the brilliant little balcony which was big enough to protect from the bit of rain we got one night. The beach in front is just gorgeous!! You are able to swim on what feels like your own private island it's so quiet! Have a walk along and watch for the tropical fish :). We definitely saved a bit of money by using the fully functional kitchen, like a home away from home, just much better view!! Thanks again for a fantastic stay.

We enjoyed Napa Beachfront very much. The service and friendliness from Metua and her staff was excellent. Our hut number 13 was just right. Very comfortable bed, linen and beach towels supplied. Everything you need in the small kitchen. The TV wasn't going, but that wasn't a problem for us as we had a good book to read and forgot about what was going on in the world! For us one of the bonus's was the what we called the "Cabana" an area especially designed for community eating and drinking. We had everything we needed in there, Being so close to the ocean was also excellent although it is quite rocky there. There is a dairy across the road and a Bakery 300 meters up the road. Overall a perfect location and we will be back one day. Thanks.

I stayed at this wonderful spot in paradise for 5 nights. From the start of our booking and sorting arrangements, Charlotte who manages the 3 bungalows was nothing but amazing, and willing to help with bookings. Its a wonderful spot to have quite relaxing break. The beach is just about on your doorstep, it's wonderful listening to the waves after a busy day. The units are well appointed and have a welcoming feel. Bus stop at the top of drive is handy, shop and restaurant all within walking distance. Reef shoes are a must, sit back and enjoy the sunsets, and unwind

We stayed here for 8 nights in total, in between trips to other islands. Like the last reviewer, we were also forgotten about on our arrival at 6 am, but this was not a big problem for us, the room was quickly made ready. Metua is a very kind lady and makes you feel very welcome; on our last night she provided a BBQ for ourselves and 2 other guests, which was a generous gesture. Our flight home was at midnight, and it was no problem for us to stay in the unit until just before our flight - we really appreciated this gesture, as it meant we could concentrate on enjoying the last day of our holiday without worrying about where to put luggage etc. If you don't like a 'resort' atmosphere and don't expect daily room servicing, then this place is perfect - very relaxed, spacious units, you hear the sea waves which lull you to sleep ... perfect holiday! There are several good nearby restaurants, some of which you reach by wandering down the beach. We particularly liked the Waterline. You can also walk easily to a couple of shops, and it is easy to flag down the bus as it dows its circular route around the island. There are washing facilities provided, so it was really helpful for us to do some laundry between trips. We really enjoyed our stay at Napa Beachfront - part of our South Pacific experience!
