I stayed at the Hotel Libertador in Santiago for the second time recently, and was surprised when I saw some of the bad reviews on here after my visit. I guess, as more of a backpacker, rather than a business traveller, I consider this hotel to be very comfortable.
Included breakfast was great, wifi worked throughout - better on the 2nd floor, in the lounge area though. Location is hard to beat, as on the main avenue, one block from pedestrian malls and a couple away from the plaza. Friendly reception staff and great value (You would pay a lot more for a single room in a backpacker hostel, and receive much lower quality than here).
Overall, I highly rate this place if you are looking for comfort and convenience. If you are want luxury, then you need to pay the extra to stay somewhere else!

Make sure you can speak Spanish pretty well if you stay here. First, if you are used to the Crowne Plaza, then this hotel will give you pause. If, however, you are a budget traveler this place will be fine except that it is pricy ($100 for a triple). It is on Avenida Libertador. You have to park in the San Francisco garage which isn't the easiest to find, but the hotel clerk can draw you a map. We had 3 single beds, no AC, color TV, and a hot shower that you had to climb up and into. The windows opened onto the noisy street. There was a nice lobby on the second floor with a big screen TV, as well as a restaurant where breakfast is served (and included with price). The architecture, furnishings, etc. were all straight out of the 70s. This place grew on me, but I know more upscale travelers would not want to stay here.

Very near to Metro station, at very main avenue of Santiago. You can walk to the historic points from the hotel, surrounded by restaurants and tourist points. Breakfast included, not internet machines. Warm and clean rooms. Bathroom ok. Kind people in all the place. Good relation between price and service.

Absolutely terrible! One of the worst hotels I have been to for a long time! We stayed for just one night passing through Santiago. First impression is very bad - the entrance is a side door in a shopping alley which at night is closed with an iron curtain. Trash everywhere in sight.
The second impression was not much better. The rooms seem like not renovated since 1970s. The bed sheets were not crispy - in fact I am quite sure they were not changed :-(((( There were no towels in the room. It took 4 calls to the reception desk to finally get them. Another inconvenience is no A/C in the hotel.
The quality of breakfast was low as everything else.
Te hotel is supposed to be 3* - but this is a bad joke.
Stay away from this place if you don't want to ruin you holidays.

The only redeeming feature of this hotel is its very central location as its located on the main street near down town. However this is also a curse if you happen to have a room on the street side as there is no air conditioning and the street is VERY noisy all night long - so you have to choose between trying to get some relief from the heat or the noise. The rooms are quite small so they get very stuffy.
If you speak Spanish the staff on the front desk are helpfull but I did see quite a few people who didn't speak Spanish have problems.
I would not stay here again.

Unbelievably this hotel was booked by our cruise wholesaler to have two nights in after a brilliant 14 night luxury cruise. It would have to be the worst hotel I have ever had the misfortune to stay in.
When our car pulled up, I thought we had the wrong address. It was Sunday and the hotel entry is down an arcade, behind a steel gate. The guy on reception spoke no english, but we did end up checking in eventually.
After seeing the room, I went out and checked on availability on some other nearby hotels and if it wasn't for having some pick ups arranged and only being there 2 nights I probably would have moved hotels.
The room itself had no airconditioner and was hot. And it stunk. There must have been something dead down one of the drains. The wardrobe was broken, the lino floor in in the room and the tiles in the bathroom where filthy. We wore thongs to use the shower it was that bad. The stench was so bad that we went to a nearby supermarket and bought some disinfectant to pour down the drains and on the shower floor and air freshner to spray around. I know that the hotel should have done that but the language gap made it too hard to explain. There where not even glasses in the bathroom for (bottled) water tooth brushing. We did mange to get a fan that had to be plugged into the TV outlet. In fact the TV was the only good thing about the room. A new Samsung 32" LCD (the remote was at reception). At least with the TV, I could say one nice thing about the room.
Breakfast was limited and based on the (lack of) cleanliness of the rest of the hotel, we ate cautiously in the one sitting we had.
It was not a cheap hotel pricewise. I would dread staying anywhere as bad again. Many nicer options around the area at a similar rack price.

This hotel is located in the central seedy part of town, it is recommended you don't go out after dark it is unsafe. The other end of Santiago has the new hotels and safer cleaner part of town it is recommended to stay there instead. Also the hotel is outside of a main bus stop so the buses are running all night and it is very noisy. None of the family got any sleep which was very hard coming off a 12 hour flight. One thing that was good was the buffet breakfast, cant complain at all about that. I had read trip advisor and thought it would be ok after our travel agent booked us here but if you are reading this and have a family, dont come here if you want some sleep and would like to go out at night.

If you want to stay at a dump for $80US per night then this is the place for you.
The location is very central but that's where the good news ends. The rooms are in bad shape, the breakfast isn't that good and the whole stay just wasn't enjoyable. Not recommended.

If you like being eaten alive by bed bugs, this is the place for you! I stayed in a triple room, and all three of us woke up covered in bites. I stayed here on a group tour, and other people reported the same about in their rooms.

If you read my other reviews on TripAdvisor you will see that I usually try to find something good to say about all hotels I stay in. In this case the only good thing is the location. Everything else from room amenities, cleanliness to front desk service is absolutely terrible. Everything is worm out to the point it barely works and the staff us extremely unhelpful.
I got to my room at 22:30 to find out one of the double windows (old fashioned windows anyway) did not shut down properly which meant the room was almost as noisy as sleeping on the street. After 40 minutes and calling reception 4 times a house service staff came to tell ne that the problem could not be solved and I should change rooms. When I called the front desk about this they only offered a room on the 6th floor (I was in 3rd). This happened at 23:15. This happened after I tried earlier to get a room on the 6th floor where my parents were staying only to be told they could not put us on the same floor. Now, surprise, they could... I did not move because I was too tired already but their approach was really terrible.
Other bad points: bathroom really old and ugly, stained carpets, minimal breakfast, they don't issue more than one key card per room, I found an old lady sock on the radiator (?!)
