We stayed 5 days in January, renting 4 rooms. No problems at all. Very clean. Hosts were always helpful. Had a problem with the Air conditioner and someone came right away and repaired it. Very clean. Beds very comfortable. A relaxed ambience. Shared space with other guests is clean. This is near where some of the demonstrations have been, so there is graffiti in the neighborhood. There were a few minor incidents with demonstrations in the circle, but these do not affect the hotel guests. There are lots of great restaurants nearby and it is easy to walk to a lot of museums and cathedrals and parks.

Owners were very solicitous and provided great advice on things to do. They spent time discussing options and answering questions. Very friendly. The french press in the kitchen broke and they got a new one right away. They are very focused on providing excellent service and hospitality.

Stayed here for a ski trip and it was very convenient.
Everything you need to see is within walking distance from the hotel. Very safe area with lots of shops and restaurants around. Subway is just a few minutes walk away.
Highly recommended!

Ideally, I will like to rate it at 3.5/5.

Me - A perpetual wordlwide traveler who stays in at least 2 hotels a month in worldwide destinations.

The plus points of this hotel :

1. Excellent Service - Absolutely no complaints watsoever about the service. The front desk guys are really nice and go out of the way to keep you satisfied. All of them speak perfect English, in case you are a English speaker. They will do whatever they can, to fulfil your wishes.

2. The room is really beautiful inside and made of very high quality furniture, building materials. It looks really v v posh from inside.

3. The rooms are earth quake strengthened. This is important when staying in a hotel in Chile, as Chile is in frequent earthquake zone.

4. The building looks nice and pretty and on a beautiful street. Not a address to be ashamed off, when staying there.

5. The internet worked well and at good speed. Though at times, the connection went off suddenly but the overall, I am satisfied with the internet.

6. Their was a steady stream of hot water. Hot water is v v important for me.

7. The LCD was nice and had sharp images.

8. The central heating was perfectly regulated. I was could sleep in peace without sweating or feeling too cold.

9. Their were enough spare "plug-in' points across the room to plug in yr laptop or cell phones.

10. The towels were nice and fluffy. Their were enough shampoo, soaps etc available in the room.

11. The bed was very comfortable. Though it had too many pollows. I threw 4-5 pillows on the floor and just slept with one pillow.

The Glitches

1. The room was too small. It seem the property has different sized rooms. Anyway, my room was really tiny.

2. The bathroom is very tiny. Espeacially, if you are a tall person, it can be claustrophobic trying to sit on the toilet seat with the door of the bathroom, closed.

3. The noise factor is the deal breaker. Their is just too much noise . You can hear all the conversations going on in the building in various rooms on the same floor and at the reception. This is one factor which I really did not like. Its the deal breaker for me.

4. The bathroom does not have a bathtub only a shower, which is fine for me.

5. The dining hall is really tiny and kind of claustrophobic as well.

6. For going to the airport, the hotel arranges some cab service which takes 15000 pesos. I made this point here cos, the hotel staff told me, they have a contract with the cab service that they will never charge "more than 15000 pesos". when I reached the airport, I saw that the meter showed only 8900 pesos. I told the cab driver that I will pay 8900 pesos but the cab driver said, they have instructions to collect 15000 pesos and a "cut" goes to the hotel, from 15000 charged. If this is true, its shameful!

7. No fitness centre/swimming pool etc on this property.

Overall, I think for 125 usd a night, this place is a good deal. Should they increase the price, to 150 usd a night, I will not partake again.

Dear Sally We sincerely appreciate your opinion and would like to comment on our lower points: -Our Rooms are indeed divided in three different categories, the smallest being the one you had on your last visit. Although our rooms on superior categories count with similar caracteristics in terms of equipment and accesories, they are also bigger and may be even found with Jacuzzi and private terrace. -We are concient of the noise that may harm our passengers´s rest, mostly due of our very centrical location, nevertheles we are currently working on reinforcing the insulation already installed in all our doors and windows in order to be able to offer a better repose to our guests. -Concerning our Taxi fees, please notice that for simplicity of our guest´s we indeed work on a Fixed Fee basis, charging the same Fee for scheduled Airport Pick-up (which is normally higher) or Airport Drop-Off, and assuming any overcharge in case that the trip last longer due of traffic delays. Looking forward to have you back in our Hotel, Sincerely yours, Tomás Bertoglia

Very helpful, charming staff. They will go the extra mile to make your stay memorable. Clean, comfortable, well presented rooms. A fabulous restaurant downstairs, serves bfast, lunch & dinner. Prices are reasonable.
The district is full of shops, wine bars, charming things to see and do -

This charming boutique hotel is doing things right. Not only did they save us at the last minute from another nights stay at a less then desirable place, they went above and beyond. Wonderful rooms, clean & spacious. Artwork throughout the hotel is amazing especially when you take the time to learn the stories behind them and find out they are handmade. This is not a chain, this is family owned and run.

Restaurant downstairs serves amazing food from fresh ingredients. The neighborhood this hotel is at is called the Lasarrier district and is full of shops, wine bars, charming things to see and do. We spent the next day walking over to and up the Cerro Lucia for the spectacular views of Santiago. The staff will help you get to whatever you would like to see.
Without a shadow of a doubt, if we head back to Santiago this will be where we stay again.

Very stylish and comfortable rooms albeit a bit pricey, intimate and friendly restaurant, very helpful English speaking front desk and very close to the centre. Very good breakfast. They have a lovely lounge area on level four, with a nice outlook over Parque Forestal, where you can just chill out and indulge in a free cup of tea. Good wifi. Easy stroll to the metro station at Plaza Italia. Rooms facing Su Merced are noisy so make sure you get one facing Coronel Santiago Coronel. On the downside is the fact that all rooms come off a central stairwell, so noise does seem to echo up and down somewhat and that can be a bit of a problem when people are coming in late at night. However we were happy with this place and even stayed here a second time after a trip to Valpo.

I've been traveling thought Central and South America for the past 90 days and this place by far has it all. Great location, Great service, amazing food/wine and the rooms are fantastically designed, ultra clean and very hip. I normally stay in small niche hotels thoughout the world and this one was one my favorites . From the manager walking me around to help get me familiar with this new location to the front staff acting like personal assistants, faxing, email, scanning they do it all. Look no further. Enjoy.

My daughter and I stayed for 4 nights in May at the end of our holiday in Chile. What a find! The staff were simply wonderful. They were all friendly, happy, helpful, and absolutely delightful. We could not fault the service.

The building has been stylishly renovated and the finishes and fittings are of good quality. There are 4 floors, with a small restaurant on the ground floor, and a lounge area on the 4th floor. Rooms face the park, or the street at the back of the hotel. Beds and bedding are very comfortable and towels thick and fluffy.

We were upgraded, at no additional cost, to a very spacious room on the 3rd floor, which had lovely views over the park. However if you are a light sleeper, street noise could be a problem.
The weather was not fantastic when we were there. Cold and rainy, in fact very heavy rain. It did not stop us from seeing as much of this interesting city as we could.

However, the heavy rain caused a leak in our room, so the manager quickly moved us to another room. It was much smaller, but quieter as it faced the back of the hotel. He also gave us a discount for the inconvenience!!

Breakfast was delicious and varied every morning. We pre ordered it the night before, and it was served in the restaurant at a time to suit us.

The hotel is very well located and within walking distance of many attractions, and good restaurants in Bellavista and Lastarria.

No pools, spas or gyms. Just fantastic staff and a lovely place to call home when in Santiago!!

The hotel is conveniently located. The metro and Bellavista district are only a short walk away.

The staff are friendly and helpful.

The room is a decent size with a king bed, two luggage racks, wardrobe, cupboard, minibar, chair, table, two bedside tables, a small flatscreen TV and a heater/air conditioner. Complimentary water and alfajores are provided on arrival (the alfajores were amazing!)

The bed linen is comfortable, though the underlay on the mattress is slightly lumpy and makes a noise when you turn over.

The bathroom is a decent size. The sink is located just outside the bathroom. The shower pressure varies. A couple of times it was semi-strong, though most of the time it was weak.

Toiletries were provided; 2 bars of soap, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, shower cap, vanity kit and a shoe sponge. However, the shower cap, soap and shampoo were not replaced daily. We had to hide the leftover shampoo to get a new bottle.

The towels were a good size, though they had some yellow stains on them. One of the towels had a hole in it.

With breakfast, you need to order the portions the night before. Portions were small, but you can always request more. The food was tasty, each day there was a special item on the menu.

We had a room on the side street facing the hostel. At night, we could hear music and screaming from it. There was also noise from drunk partygoers walking home and buses driving on the adjacent street. At random times throughout the day and night there was a loud buzz/machine noise that sounded like a generator starting.

Wifi worked fine, speed was good for basic browsing and emails.

Stay here for the location, but take ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.

Dear Guest, Thank you for sharing your experience in the hotel and for such a detailed description of our services. For us, it is important to hear what we did well, and what could be improved. We are so sorry about the problems you had with the noise from outside, which is something that we cannot control. However, we will let the head housekeeper know about the problem you had with the towels and toiletries, so that no future guest experiences the same. On the other hand, it is good to know that you liked the location, the staff, as well as our alfajores. We hope you enjoyed your trip to Santiago and we will be happy to welcome you again in your next visit to the city! Best Regards, Paulina Toledo

We stayed at Su Merced for 3 nights & had dinner there the first night...
PROS: V good/clean rooms; a lovely lounge on the top floor with a balcony overlooking a big park (we often had pre-dinner drinks there); helpful staff; great location - easy walk to restaurant area (Barrio Lastarria) as well as cafes near Cerro Santa Lucia Park/hill nearby - (Good morning walk to the top then coffee); not far from metro so easy to get to museums etc & metro art worth seeing too; good breakfast; rooms small but v clean & comfortable (1 exception-see below; easy walk to the meeting place for "Tours 4 Tips" (we preferred that instead of hop on/off bus as it seemed to get stuck in traffic too often).

CONS: Large windows but the sheer drapes can't be drawn back to let more light in &/or see the pretty view of the park. As well as that, the windows can't be opened so you need to rely on the air conditioner a lot. Consequently, the room often felt claustrophobic. Fortunately, there is a lovely lounge with a large balcony upstairs that all guests can use - only Instant coffee & limited tea bags etc. (room for a bit more generosity like other hotels??) but the room is a pleasant spot. As mentioned, staff were helpful & when we arrived on a Saturday in early May, both the young man on reception and the waitress at dinner were very warm and welcoming. However, early in the week another v young woman hardly looked away from her computer when we greeted her when coming & going - maybe a mention by management that greeting people with a smile is important! Things did get better when we asked for more assistance...

On our 3rd day we asked her how to take the Metro to the Human Rights museum - she was extremely helpful, showing us on the map etc. Maybe she just found the greetings on reception unnecessary &/or boring but in our view (& most others' we would presume) it only takes a few seconds to acknowledge someone with a smile as they walk past. Maybe some hospitality training has been lacking in this regard? Something easily fixed with a friendly reminder to her? Anyway, we would recommend Su Merced - so much nicer than staying at a big hotel!

Dear Guest, We really appreciate your time to review our hotel. Your opinion is very important to us, as they give us the chance to improve and the motivation to continue. We are sorry to hear that one of our staff members was not very courteous. Please, accept our apologies and be assured this will be corrected. The windows cannot be opened because, some time ago, most of our guests complained about the noise. Now, most of our rooms that face the main street have double glass and this has helped to reduce considerably the amount of noise. Regarding the sheer drapes, they can be drawn back. You could have asked for help if you had problems with them. Thank you so much for your comments about our lounge and its beautiful view. Also, we know that our central location is a plus, we are close to everything: shops, restaurants, museums, etc. We wish you all the best! And, we will be waiting for your next visit! Best Regards, Paulina Toledo
