This place is amazing. Señora Mariana took really good care of us. The location is superb and the facilities are impecable. We stayed for 3 nights in a beautiful room with a very warm fireplace and library. They have a very lush music collection, the arquitecture was warm and charming. The breakfast was very nice. They also have a sauna which i really recomend after doing the treks. I wish we had more time to stay

This is a unique and magical place to relax and enjoy the spectacular beauty of Huerquehue National Park. Patricio is an attentive and skilled host and his meals -- and wine list -- are superb. The walk to the lakes starts at his doorstep. Plan to stay at least 3 nights -- I wish we had one more!

We stayed two nights at this place, and loved it; first night we stayed we were the only ones staying there. Many reviews mention the difficult approach and when we stayed there in November the road was in very poor shape and we had to park on the other side of the river and carry our bags across a narrow footbridge. There are 5 rooms in the main house; one a double with en-suite, two more doubles and two family bunk-rooms, all with shared facilities. Breakfast is just OK, make-your-own with home made bread and jams and I think I'd get fed up of this if I stayed longer than two nights. Dinner is optional (but there's absolutely nowhere else to eat!) for 8,500 each with soup or salad and main course, no dessert or drink included. We thought Patricio's cooking was first class and he gave us two of the best meals we had in Chile and it was fascinating to share our the dinner table with him and talk about his various experiences. Huerquehue park is beautiful and there are two excellent walk from the Refugio - one behind it up to the nearby lakes and one to the west to the top of a nearby mountain

Where to begin? A unique "refugio" experience - we stayed three nights and could easily have stayed three more if we had known and planned ahead! Brave the crazy road and enter a special secluded place away from Wifi, clocks and schedules. The walks in the park are stunning - enough for several days then allow a few more for rainy days to sit indoors making new friends. Wonderful generous hosts, great food and company. A great little library tucked away in a reading nook upstairs. Home made bread and jams to die for. Only thing missing is dessert so if you have a sweet tooth maybe stock up on some chocolate on the way in. Bookings essential - only a few rooms.

Refugio Tinquilco is located in the Parque Nacional Huerquehue region a few meters off the famous Los Lagos hiking tour. It should be noted if you come by car, that the last 2 kilometers from the National Park information center (where cars usually are parked) to the Refugio are a gravel road with relatively large potholes, so a SUV or pickup truck are adviseable if you do not prefer to hike anyway. The refuge is a two-floor building in the middle of nature; there is one four-bed room and several double rooms, most of them with a shared bathroom. The ground floor consists of a large kitchen, eating area and comfortable living room. Everything is well-maintained and clean.
We spent one night at the Refugio; as it is recommended in several international travel guides, we met a number of international guests. At this time, the refuge seemed to be fully booked. Breakfast is included, and dinner or other food can be ordered in addition. Most people choose the evening meal which is served at a large table for all guests facilitating communication. The owner is preparing meals himself together with his staff and also takes part in the conversation. Food was very good, and the staff readily respected any preferences guests might have. Rooms are small but comfortable. The staff and the owner were very friendly and gave us interesting insights into Chilean life. As usual due to the wooden structure of the refuge, people walking around or talking at the table can be easily heard in the rooms. Refugio Tinquilco is excellent for people who like to socialize and meet other people; in low season when there are few or no other guests around, it might also be suited for travelers who want to spend some quiet time in nature.

We stayed at Tinquilco after a couple nights of hiking and backcountry camping in Huerquehue National Park, and we only wished we had more time to spend there. Patricio has designed and built a truly special place that was incredibly peaceful and restorative for us in the middle of a long and tiring trip. We only stayed one night, but could have easily spent a week. The rooms are cozy and snug, perfect for a quality night of sleep. The breakfast was good and the home-cooked dinner spectacular. We enjoyed the communal meals with other guests, delicious wine and good company. We had a swim at the private beach and the riverside sauna is not to be missed. It is an authentic Finnish sauna with a custom-built river pool with icy water to cool off in. My husband and I truly loved our stay here and would recommend it to anyone looking for a retreat.

The refugio is 2 kms inside the Parque Nacional Huerquehue gate. Beautiful pine lodgings at the trail head of some magnificent day treks. Couldn't be more comfortable and includes a breakfast of home made breads, selection of jams and French press coffee. The best things were the the day treks and meeting a real legend. The lakes trail takes in four high lakes through amazing ancients forests and the San Sebastián summit trek was breathtakingly beautiful and is an all day effort. Meeting a real legend, Patricio, of the dictatorship years was a privilege. He let's pass snippets of his part in the "revolution" and the affect on family and friends then he and son Camillo cook up a tasty evening meal with lively conversation. A memorable two days.

A magical transport to a quieter time with stunning hikes and fabulous shared meals. It was a thoroughly enjoyable visit--so much so that re-entering civilization again was akin to returning from a long back-pack or river trip. We stayed four nights and could have easily enjoyed more. Each morning, we got up early to drink coffee, watch the mist on the lake and listen to the chucaos and huet-huets calling until the sun came over the ridge to San Sebastian and warmed us and dissolved the mist. Patricio's meals were a revelation of simple food prepared with really interesting combinations and flavors. And the communal table with Patricio hosting was really a great treat. We hiked to the lagos (a beautiful but pretty busy trail), and I also hiked to the top of San Sebastian (beautiful in a different way but not crowded). Both were world-class hikes and the flowers and new foliage were really pretty in late spring. Accessible via bus from Pucon and a 2 km hike, but we took our rental car down a bumpy road (slowly) and did the river crossing (slowly), and it worked fine (we had dry weather though). We'll be back. Certainly not for anyone who wants all of the mod-cons, but truly a Refugio!

Stopped here for breakfast on my way up Los Lagos. The host was very accommodating and friendly. The food was excellent and the setting so peaceful and natural. Wish I hadn't had my room in Pucon. Would have rather stayed here!

Towards the end of our 3 wk trip thro Patagonian Chile we arrived here, a beautiful out of the way feeling place, greeted warmly by Patricio who turned out to be the perfect host. He is a mine of interesting information and provides excellent home comforts, great food and a superb wine list here at his fantastic, rustic mountain hideaway, Refugio Tinquilco. As we told Patricio on departing after a 2 night stay during the first week of November 2019, this special place seemed to sum up all that was good and amazing about our travels around Chile and Argentina - all under one roof, and then some! We can't wait to return to this very special place in a wonderful National Park at some time in the future. Thank you Patricio for a great stay, great hosting, great food, great wine and great natural surrounding. S & A
