We're not backpackers so we like to have a bit of comfort when we travel - and this hit the spot. The hotel is near the main street of Pucon but quiet and out of the way. Some rooms overlook the lake. It also has a spa which is free to hotel guests and includes a jacuzzi, pool and sauna - just what you need after a day's hike. As always in Chile (or so it seems) the staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms weren't huge but clean and comfortable.
A word of warning, if you're going to climb Villarrica make sure you're fit. Our group took 6 hours to climb the volcano and we were all fairly fit and healthy - it's very hard work and truly terrifying in places. Plus, when we reached the top we couldn't see into the crater because of the strong wind - they don't tell you that! Good views don't make up for it...
Tour group Politur are good - they're the most expensive but also the best equipped and most knowledgeable. You get what you pay for.

We travelled during the off season and Pucon was pretty quiet for what would otherwise be a very busy place. The hotel was practically empty and we had our choice of rooms. We ended up staying four nights and had a nice time. We started in one room in the newer part of the building. Room was good. Bathroom worked. Good TV and wi-fi. We heard about a vacancy and upgraded to the best room in the place with a view from one side of Villarica volcano and the lake from the other. Very quiet, clean and comfortable. Staff were great. English was generally not a problem. The breakfast room was great. Breakfast at that time was the typical toast, ham, cheese, cereal but I think at busier times they probably offered more choices. Coffee wasn't bad but Chile isn't a coffee culture so it wasn't really great anywhere. I would stay there again.

Stayed here on a busy night in Pucon, wanted a bit of luxury, a cool room, nice night's sleep. Got some of that, though ummmm, this is such a pet peeve of mine. If the WiFi DOES NOT WORK, don't advertise that it does. I also stayed at a $16 a night hospedaje and the net worked fine, so the problem is NOT the service in town.
Things are clean, quiet, bath is nice , the staff TRIED to make the net work, alas they use a commericial service and frankly I think they just have the entry codes wrong.
There is a computer room, and I was able to plus some Cat 5 wire into their box and use my PC, Skype etc.,....but at ~$80 a night, I want stuff to WORK.
Also, the room keys are a bit of a puzzle, as the facility is a bit old, but nothing is perfect.

Response from Pucononline, Propietario at Hotel & Spa Araucarias
Responded 25 Oct 2011

We spent 2 nights on a long weekend in winter at Araucarias, the room was okay, it had a double bed and single, the mattress was just okay, and heating was a quartz heater. I cant say it was cold but fresh. The bathroom was okay, water was hot. There was a window over the door that let light in from the passage. It was not noisy because I doubt it was full but wonder what it would be like then.
Breakfast was simple and their scrambled eggs delicious.
Don´t think I will return. Internet impossible, but that seems to be a problem in all hotels.
It is well situated in town.

Stayed in this hotel as part of a group tour, so we didn't have a choice. This was probably the worse hotel we stayed in during our trip. The walls were thin, the rooms were really dirty, and place had an overall run down atmosphere. The location was great, but I would think that there had to be much better options in this tourist town. On the positive, the breakfast was decent.

I stayed here one night on the spur of the moment - booked on booking.com I got a room with a double and single bed with tv-HBO included, hot hot water in the shower and a view onto a nice green space.

Stayed there 3 nights March 2017 and had an excellent time. My wife and I stayed in a apartment that was very spacious and clean. The location was perfect for us and the staff always helpful. The free breakfast was outstanding and the price was very reasonable. I would recommend this hotel highly.

It was not so good. We stayed a few nights and we didn’t have the chance to sleep, because you can hear everything through the walls. The breakfast was very good and complete. The room was spacious and clean. You have many options to go out and have a dinner near to the hotel.

stayed as part of a tour group, so no choice, walls very thin so could here showers right down corridor (when there was hot water), the SPA was closed for repairs, breakfast was very average, arriving as it was prepared, so if you were early there was not much at all.
Most of our group were ill within 12 hrs of leaving, don't know if it was related

This hotel is in a great position just away from the main shopping street with views of the lake. Shame it's so in need of an upgrade/ refurb. Stayed as part of group cycling trip. Rooms vary in size, mine was poky, others has huge rooms. Shower room tatty, lukewarm showers. Other had good hot water. Some of the group had rooms with radiators that weren't functioning until they bled them themselves. Pool area tatty and the ladies loo (I'm told) was gross. Not sure how this place calls itself a Spa. All it has is a pool. There were minimal staff so no one on the bar but staff would come from reception to get beers. The lounge/bar had a big fire which was burning for us when we arrived on a cold day - that was nice. This place has real potential, shame it's not realised. Our group tour operator hadn't used this place before and they tell us they will look elsewhere for the next group.
