Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Customer Service was terrible. We had to wait in line for an hour to check in and check out. My husband is American and they wanted us to pay tax just because I am Chilean. We would ask for towels and they never brought them. At the tourist agency they did not have maps. They told us we could use breakfast coupons for lunch if we paid the difference. After we had had lunch, they come back and tell us that they actually checked with the manager and we couldn't use the coupons. Hotel is old, you can hear what's happening in rooms upstairs, downstairs and next to you.
They charged us for things we did not eat. Their accounting was a mess.
Manager was very unpleasant, not helpful and full of himself!
I would never recommend this hotel and we will never go back!

We stayed at Hotel del Lago for four nights. It's one of the newest 5 * hotels in Pucon, and I must say we kept being positively surprised every minute we stayed there. This review is a long one, but that's because I realized there are no reviews in English about this hotel. I think word has to go out there about how good it is!
The view from the rooms might not be as good as its main competitor's, but it does sit in front of a very pleasant plaza, where kids can have a wonderful time playing in a simple... playground! And once you enter the hefty lobby, you just forget about everything else out there. It's a beautiful building, truly worthy of a 5 star hotel, but with tasty decor and none of the glitz people are used to in Hyatts and Hiltons around the world.
The rooms are all suites with a small sitting/TV room upfront and the bedroom itself is separated, but it also has its own TV set. The decor reminds me of wealthy americans' homes - oak-colored woods, superking box spring beds, rich fabrics on heavy curtains and bedcovers. It may sound suffocating, but the light colors don't allow it to be so. We went in winter, so it was actually a very cozy room to go back to, after a day freezing up in the snow-covered mountains.
The hotel also features a number of amenities, such as an indoor heated swimming pool (good size with a cascade), a spa with dozens of different massage techniques (you have to pay separately for these), an average size casino right behind the lobby, a movie theater (we've never been there - so much to do outdoors in Pucon!). Everything is tastefully decorated, which gives the hotel a feeling at the same time very cozy and very chic.
But what sets this hotel apart from the others is service. The housekeeper would come into our room two or three times a day, to clean, cover the beds with bedspreads, then uncover them by the end of the day and get them ready to sleep, open the curtains, shut the curtains, put a chocolate on the pillow (delicious, by the way), etc, etc. In the end of the day, we didn't have to do anything on our own, they did everything for us!
Besides housekeeping, one of our party fell sick in the middle of the trip, and was tended to by a professional nurse, who not only was available all day, but also made a fantastic job being quick, polite, and sympathetic to the ill person. The service was so good that, the minute we called the nurse in, the whole staff was ready to help. For instance, about 15 minutes after we first called the nurse, I had to go out for some reason, and the bellboy who opened the door for me already knew we had an ill friend. He asked if the person was better, and offered to go to the drugstore to buy the medicines.
The staff at the front desk, at the pool, at the spa, everybody was so helpful without being overwhelming or showing off in any way at all. The tour agency works inside the hotel (at the reception counter, in fact), and thus tour arrangements are very easy to make.
I think I would change just two things. One is the breakfast, which is good but not excellent - it could improve a lot. And the other is the tour organization. Since we went in low season, I felt tours were too short and didn't fill up the day - although there's plenty to do in Pucon! And I also think they didn't offer all the possible choices available. In the end, I think we left Pucon having visited fewer places than we could have.
Of course the excellent hotel structure and service has a price. I've heard rates here are as hefty as the lobby! For us it wasn't that expensive because we booked this hotel along with a package that included Santiago city and all the flights and transfers. So we only payed about $200 more per person, to stay at del Lago rather than a four-star.
I definitely recommend this hotel for the ones who can afford it.
