Detailed Reviews
Good, the bad and the OK:
The Good, Location! Just off the back of Orchard Road almost midway between Dhoby Ghaut and Somerset MRT Stations. Plenty of Eateries nearby to suit any budget, if you want cheap, there are food halls in the basement of every shopping centre with a wide variety of cuisines. The rooftop pool area is pleasant, the hotel was very full when we were there, but the pool was empty, nice place to relax if you want a break. Only 350m away on Emerald Hill Lane there are a couple of traditional old bars that aren’t too badly priced for Singapore.
The Bad, Breakfast. It’s all been said before, it’s pretty poor and on paper plates with plastic cutlery. Typically, Noodles or Rice, Boiled egg, Cooked Tomatoes or Baked Beans, Mushrooms or Chicken Sausage, Halal Ham, Scrambled Egg, Toast, Hash Browns or Wedges, Tea, Coffee & “Juices”. Juices were squash, tea had barely seen a teabag and the coffee was like treacle, other than that everything tasted as it should. It’s just a very limited selection, especially for Singapore, they will do cereal if you ask. There’s not really any lounge area, just a few chairs in the lobby.
The OK was the room, compact rather than small, two comfy single beds, one chair, one bedside table, large shelf, TV & fridge, don’t expect a view of anything other than another building. Bathroom has a small bath, over bath shower, basin and hairdryer, water was hot, linen was clean, carpet not so much. Had no problem with staff, restaurant manager found us table on a busy day and got cereal for the kids, reception arranged taxi and concierge looked after our cases, they were happy for us to use the pool area after checkout. The hotel also met our request for twin beds and adjacent rooms.
Would I go back? This was not our first choice, we booked a higher rated hotel eight months ago only for the Singapore government to cancel our reservation due to acquiring it as a Covid isolation facility; leaving us trying to find any availability just three weeks before Christmas. Chancellor was the best we could do including breakfast & pool, it was still a lot more than our original choice. In answer to the question, I probably would use it again, if you don’t pay extra for breakfast and use the nearby café’s there’s not that much wrong with it, it’s just there are better places out there if you book early.

The hotel's location is very central on Orchid Road, close to bus stop and Malls. The hotel room was comfortable and being on the 8th floor had a panoramic view over the trees. I spent 2 nights there and the room was not serviced. Breakfast was included, however, polystyrene plates and plastic cutlery!! That was a shock. The breakfast was simple, not a great selection. This was post Covid-19. The WiFi in my room was not connecting, great fully, a technician was sent up and it was sorted out. I would stay there again due to the location.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights during our visit in Singapore. It is a clean, but basic hotel. There were 2 packages of toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo was a refillable container on the wall, water pressure was good. There were 2 towels, no washcloths. Beds were comfortable, but the bedsheets and pillows were smelly. Breakfast was ok which was included in the price. The lighting could have been better if they used white bulbs, instead of yellow glow which made the room dark.

The hotel's accommodation is standard as you would expect of a 3 star rating. It's comfortable and have the essentials we needed. I do like their initiative to drive a more greener and sustainable offering with the filtered water system rather than bottled water and soap dispenser in the room. The bed was comfortable, not too soft or lumpy.
What I was most impress with was the Tour desk service available at this hotel. Susan Hoo and her team were AMAZING!!! We traveled in a family of 10 with young and elderly members and Susan was so helpful in providing advice and recommendations and put together an awesome 4 day itinerary for us that worked with our pace. We felt we were able to cover all the key attractions and was able to travel in comfort at an affordable price and excellent service. I would highly recommended the tour desk service at this hotel!

The hotel location is good, but rooms are small, maybe that's how it is in Singapore. But the hotel service is pathetic. They have just one luggage trolley which the guests have to pull to the room and bring back to the lobby. No service there. The room service is also slow and mostly do not understand basic courtesy especially if travelling with small kids. Further, the worst is the breakfast- the menu is 90percent non vegetarian and does not cater to international standards- for eg they wont serve an omelette, or wont give warm milk for small kids. No tea or coffee. The food preparation, even in case of non veg is pathetic. And breakfast is served in disposable plates. The worst part is, that they remove the buffet strictly at 10am and wont offer even a cup of coffee or bread strictly at 10.00am. Not only this, they switch off the lights at the cafe area even if guests are sitting and guests are told to wrap up in the next two minutes. We were traveling with small kids and it felt as if we were not on vacation but in a hostel mess. A very bad experience at the hotel

They said, every price selling cost measures its quality and services. Depending on what you need as a traveller, if you want to just have a clean bed and set aside 1 or 2 hours to chill by the swimming pool, this is the place. If you want to find a fancy place, then you have to match your budget with the proper needs you deserve. To me, Hotel Chancellor provides basic necessity. Don't set too high hopes if your budget is just mediocal. My stay was alright, but I think the frontliners need to smile more, and management has to work on the image dull-looking lobby. High ceiling is nice, just these two aspects and am sure will have more repeat happy guests.

As soon as we got in to our room (4 rooms) on the 6th floor smells mildew and stuffy. We asked for wash cloths and gave us hand towels instead, spoke to front desk and was advised that they don’t have anything at all. When I was trying to tuck myself in there was breadcrumbs on my bed. Also, they have a complimentary breakfast, I didn’t even enjoy eating my breakfast because the food was awful. Please everyone if you happened to go on vacation in Singapore NEVER go to this Hoel, I will not recommend. This Hotel is OLD and lousy.

+1
Each bed has only one pillow as compared to the other hotel . When request for more they try to find lots of reason to push away our request . And there is this weird scent in the lobby as well as the room we stayed in . My sis complained that the pillow and blanket have this weird smell and her body itch after lying down on the bed . And there were stains on sheets which is really gross . And the door safety lock (?) is not even locking properly ? I assume its just there for displag ?! Luckily we just stayed for a night . But i swear its the worst night.
Although there was bathtub in the room, but this is the first time that iam not even excited about using it :/
The hotel look really disappointing because its in the Orchard area . I tot they might at least have the basic standard but in the room there is only three toothbrush, three cups and one small soap thats it .
As for the pool area, the place for shower have those green algae in it which is really turn off . And they dnt even provide pool towel for it . The chairs there was those old sch plastic seats ...
And for breakfast, all of the guests were to use plastic plates, fork and spoon and also paper cups. The chooces werent alot but for the price paid .... no comments

We visited Singapore in early February 2020, in the early days of pandemic. In the afternoon we arrived Singapore declared orange status which meant getting uncontrolled & difficult to trace.
The airport was pretty cautious, yet not many people wearing masks. Chancellor Hotel complied to the rules they should register each guests historical travel: date & number of flight, seat number, last departure city, etc. Very good indeed.
The hotel itself is quite old. I believe it was very famous in the 80s-90s, observing its facility and strategic location (very close to Plaza Singapura). However many modern hotels in the same league were established in Singapore. So I guess not many foreigners chose this hotel, except for tourists who usually arrive with chartered buses.
Anyway, the room was nice. The facility was working. Although as I said: almost all furnitures are quite old (bathroom, drawer, cabinet, door). But if you don’t mind all these, Chancellor is among the best in Orchard Road & very close to Dhoby Gout MRT station.

The staff at the reception. are very helpful and nice. The water dispenser in the room is top class and normally seen in hotels. It was a sort of novelty and really useful. The rooms are decent but there are problems with the bathroom cum toilet. The curtain at the shower is inadequate to prevent water entering the toilet area. It is an awkward hotel where there is no restaurant functioning except during the breakfast hours. Nor do we have any decent eatery in the vicinity. The food on offer for breakfast buffet might have been a delight for a non vegetarian ; but my wife and I being vegetarians found it extremely difficult together a decent breakfast combination to meet our nutritional needs. The bus stop nearby makes it easy for accessing various parts of the city.

This hotel is at the start of Orchard Road on the east end. The whole of Orchard is just out the door and turn right. It is just one small street back so its quiet. Very short walk to Centrepoint shops Etc.
Stay away from this pathetic hotel
Taxi is available 24 hours. Ask reception at the time of check out. They will call on phone. in the morning they will cgarge around S$ 25 unless you have lot of luggage for which they might charge extra.
