Furama City Centre hotel garners appreciation for its attentive service and prime location in Chinatown, making it a convenient hub for exploring nearby attractions. Guests have called out the hotel's overall cleanliness, though some suggest room servicing could be more frequent. While the amenities, including dining options and the pool, satisfy many, there are mentions of the need for modernization. The atmosphere and room decor are often cited as dated, but the spaciousness is a plus. In terms of value, opinions are mixed, with some travelers finding the pricing reasonable while others question it based on their experience.

Very disappointed with being on the 9th floor with a view of just the swimming pool roof, despite asking for the highest floor available (maybe it was the highest twin room available). Even more disappointed that the pool was closed just as we decided to use it.

Our room smelled of cigarette smoke, despite being a non- smoking room. I eventually realised it was coming in through the vents, especially in the bathroom, so clearly there's an issue with the ventilation system.

In-room facilities included an air conditioner, tv, safe (which was easy to use), iron and ironing board, kettle, and even a small fridge. However, there wasn't much storage space for clothes.

The room was nice (apart from the ants) and the shower was incredibly powerful! The toiletries were a nice touch (toothbrushes, shower caps etc) and the drinking water machines in the hallway would have been better if they had enough space to put the 1L jar down instead of having to hold it while filling!

The help-yourself sections by the lifts and reception desk (spare towels, toiletries, tea, coffee, etc) were a useful addition.

The buffet breakfast was fabulous and included yoghurt, fresh fruit, pastries, pancakes, porridge, made-to-order pancakes, scrambled eggs, (turkey) bacon, fried rice, dim sum and teriyaki chicken/fish ... - worth every cent.

The staff were all friendly and helpful.

Lastly, the bridges linking the hotel to the shopping centre (Chinatown Point) meant we could get to the MRT without having to cross the road at ground level and without getting wet when it was raining.

We always stay here when visiting Singapore because of its great location near Chinatown the MRT and shopping malls surrounding it. But there definitely needs some work in many ways done to it. The hall carpet on the floors we saw were ripped or bubbled there was a definite smell either coming from the carpet or elsewhere. The walls needed painting and the whole hotel looked like it needed some upgrading to bring it up to a good standard. We found the breakfast area needed more choices and staff who looked like they cared. The tables took ages to get cleaned and cutlery was replaced sporadically. The concierge staff were always busy and when there was only one staff member on they were run off their feet booking taxis and storing luggage. More staff is required to assist especially if someone needs help to assist getting luggage up or down the escalators to the reception area. We booked a club room and Ivy in the lounge as always was so friendly and fun to have as a server. Note the rooms are only serviced every 3 days so no fresh towels or even rubbish removal. You can contact reception for towels and there are areas where you can replenish your teas, coffee sachets etc. but the least you should expect is rubbish removal. Although there were many negatives we would probably stay here again for the price and location.

My wife and I stayed 5 nights, arriving at 10:30PM from SIN Airport by taxi(US$25).
A nice receptionist copied our passports, provided hotel information, a responsibility document, then our key cards(including WIFI password) to our prepaid room.
We used the room card to operate one of 4 elevators to the 20th floor #2020.
The executive club king was carpeted with a fully outfitted bathroom with tub and separate glass shower, a comfortable king across a long shelf unit with closet, refrigerator, hot pot, medium sized TV with 5 channels, desk with chair and easy chair with ottoman.
The central AC was quiet with a wall control, good secure WIFI, quick hot water & a nice outside pool on the 6th floor.
The 6AM breakfast(replenished and serviced) was very good, focused on full Asian and Western tastes with several hot dishes, an egg station, breads, fruit, juices, yogurt, muesli, and 2 coffee machines.
The Executive Lounge off the lobby had a 6-8 PM Happy Hour, included with our room. It was served by 2 nice attendants and offered an assortment of drinks, 2 hot hors d'oeuvres(changed daily/readily replenished), mini-sandwiches or seafood on toast rounds, cheeses, crackers & cakes.
We crossed to the many shops and food courts around the Chinatown MRT.
Although this well managed 1984 Modernist hotel shows some age(room trim, small bathtub leak & hallway walls/carpet), its clean, quiet and provides great value in a country of high prices.

This hotel is a nightmare. On arrival, we had to drag our luggage to the first floor for check in (no direct lifts). Then we were given a room full of black mould around the rim of the basin, and in between the tiles on the walls and bath-tub.
On the way up to the 7th floor, the carpets were broken and full of bulges, and it is hard to bring our luggage to the room. We thought we could get a drink of bottled water, and found none. Instead, there was a bottle there for us to collect drinking water from a dispenser on each floor. Ok, never mind the drinking water, we started checking the room.
The chairs were full of dirty marks, as if someone with a leaking bottom has sat on it. And we dare not touch the basin which is full of black mould which is harmful to health.
We tried to call a cleaner and had to scan a code to talk to a bot, going round in circles without results. We then found a note saying that cleaning will only be done after staying every 3 nights. Common things like tooth brushes, soap etc. are all self service and the shelf is always empty.
Finally, we had no choice but to go down back to the reception to change our room. The changed room on the 19th floor was slightly better, with less black mould.
We will not stay there again due to the lack of service, difficulty getting new linen and cleaning services daily. There were also ants and my wife was bitten by bugs because the changed room was still not clean enough.

Noteworthy details
Dirty rooms with black mould and chairs. Lack of service and no daily cleaning or room make-up services Check-in reception requires traveler to haul luggage to first floor via escalator, which is pretty difficult. No help from the hotel. Bitten by bugs after sleeping one night; had to put insect repellent. There were some very tiny ants too. Basic amenities like tooth brush, towels etc. are all self-service, but the shelf on our floor seems always empty except for tea bags which we don't need.

Overall the hotel is OK, I was a little disappointed, I guess my expectations were a little high. The location is great ! The staff on front desk are great, for the most part, however the staff in the "dining room", the ones that I had interacted with...very bad.... guests should never have to ask for napkins, cutlery, coffee beans to be replaced or anything else and when we do, we shouldn't feel like we are bothering them. The dining room looks like a cafeteria and that's not good. Long tables don't work, and certain guests just take over the entire table when they are not using it. The plastic covers on the tables make it look worse. The food I didn't even eat, it looked very unappealing. Fruit and tea were the total of my "American Breakfast" and that wasn't every day I would usually just go in have a look then skip breakfast. The rooms are dated no matter what floor I was on. First 19th and then 21st. I was surprised regarding the bathroom products. On the 19th an all in one in the shower and on 21st I had separate body wash, shampoo and conditioner. We had an issue and changed rooms, front desk staff were VERY accommodating. 10 / 10 for them. The bathrooms need to be bleached as mold is growing on the shower head holder and between the bottles. The water pressure was awful and the water temperature was never constant, cold hot cold hot always adjusting the temp. I've never experienced that before in Singapore. The pool area needs work, colour, more plants maybe behind the "waterfall" it just needs something. The laundry area is fine, although a little $$$ to use. Overall the hotel is dated and is due to a refurburb, not just a coat of paint over the furniture.
I would still recommend the hotel only for its location, just a place to rest your head at night and eat out. I can't say you get what you pay for as I have stayed elsewhere in Singapore for the same $ amount per night and had a much higher quality hotel, rooms, food, and customer service.

1) Room and Facilities

Stayed in Family Suite. Spacious and good layout. Bathtub provided. Small kitchenette with electric stove and microwave oven and sink for dishwashing.

Plenty of USB ports provided. A game console with retro arcade games installed and connected to the TV.

Fits 3 comfortably, 4 if squeeze (1 double bed and 1 single bed and 1 day bed).

Aircon is cold but a little noisy. Shower taps are a mystery to figure out how to get the proper mix of hot and cold water.

Water dispenser provided in the hallway, very convenient. Vending machines on lobby level.

Toiletries provided but no room slippers! Floor carpets are thinning at the joins - there may be some sharp things jutting out - we put some face towels on the floor to avoid getting injured.

Lifts to room floors are very fast, no waiting. Car porch entrance on Level 1, have to take escalator or lift to Level 2 lobby.

Room and hotel is clean, just old.

2) Location and value

3mins walk to Chinatown MRT, directly connected via overhead pedestrian walkway to Chinatown Point and People's Park.

Also nearby Clarke Quay MRT but Chinatown MRT is nearer and easier to access.

Plenty of food options nearby including breakfast options, so no need to opt for the breakfast buffet.

An old school old style hotel that's comfortable enough to sleep in after whole day of exploring the city!

Overall great value just don't compare to 5 star hotels!

Stayed here for 6 nights in August 2024.

Location - excellent! Walking distance to Hawker Markets and the Chinatown Point shopping mall, and you can access the MRT station through a walkway in the lobby. Little India/Harbourfront/Vivocity is a short train ride away. We caught Grab taxis to Lau Pa Sat and MBS which all cost <$10

Staff - the staff we spoke with were lovely. I will comment that the front desk phone was rarely answered when we called down requesting towels which was frustrating.

Rooms - we stayed in a premium room with a gorgeous view of the Singapore Flyer. Some parts of the bathroom were a bit grimy and could have used a scrub eg the rubber sealing on the shower door. Beds were firm and comfy.

Service - unable to order alcohol to the room with room service. They wouldn’t deliver ice to the room unless we paid $5 and instead had to come down to kitchen for a plastic bag of ice. Rooms are only serviced every 3 days and you have to request new towels which was unexpected when we were paying >$300 AUD per night. Lobby toilets were under repair for half our stay which was inconvenient. We had access to 2hrs of drinks and finger food each evening which we used a few nights.

Breakfast - very repetitive fare. The omelette station/egg station was really good.

We didn’t end up using the pool but went for a walk and it did look really clean.

Thank you Ms Pauline for the great hospitality at the furama city centre premier club room. Having stayed here for more than 30 times, we are quite familiar with the hotel rooms. The last time we stayed here was monthsback. I was surprised that their manager, Miss Pauline, still remembers us.

We have booked their club room. It includes breakfast buffet and dinner at 6pm to 8pm. Free parking for in-house guest. The club lounge is located just opposite the hotel reception. You can use the link bridge to get to the chinatown point shopping mall which just a 3 minutes walk away from the hotel.

The breakfast area is located at the tiffany cafe, which is beside the club lounge. They served breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffet. There is also ala-carte meals available for purchase. There is a swimming pool and a gym located at level 6 of the hotel.

The premier club room comes with a deep soaking bathtub, and a separate standing shower. The premier club room offers a great view of the hong lim park and the marina bay view. You can walk to the famous smith street to try out the famous michelin chicken rice stall, as well as to explore the chinatown area in Singapore. Taking a bus down, you would be able to venture the clarke quay area, city hall area, as well as the bugis area.

The hotel is located right in the center of Chinatown so it enjoys a prime location for both proximity to many shops and restaurants and access to transportation. It is a medium luxury property with large air-conditioned room. Good and varied breakfast. Turning to the negatives: the air conditioning is very noisy, the cleanliness of the room is not the best and for a choice based on energy the room is cleaned and rearranged and the linen is changed once every three days. Honestly it seems more a choice oriented towards saving personnel costs rather than energy as, although sharing a change of sheets every 3 days, from a 4-star I would have expected the cleanliness and tidying of the room on a daily basis. Towels given the humidity of Singapore always stay wet so the most frequent change appears necessary. To this end on each floor there are bath towels made available to guests along with tissues and toilet paper and other amenities. A sort of self-service hotel where the only savings, I repeat, appears to be the non-payment of salaries to waiters. Even in the dining area the breakfast staff is overworked and undersized so that the tables are inadequately cleaned.

I recently spent 11 nights at the Furama City Centre hotel in an Executive Club room.

Location: It is an amazing location for Chinatown, food and shopping. It has very good access to public transport.

Lobby: It is unusual that the lobby is on the 2nd floor, access is via the side street and up a set of escalators.

Room: The initial impression upon arriving on the floor was one of disappointment at the shabbiness of the stark brown walls and well worn carpets. The rooms were a very good size, clean and contained all of the amenities that were required. The water pressure in the shower was especially good. The free internet was very fast. The view across the harbour was magnificent. Housekeeping is every three days but if extra towels or consumables are required, they are readily available.

Pool Area: The pool area (no spa) on the 6th floor lacks character. It can be difficult to access for people with disabilities due to the flight of steps going down to it. I do believe that you can phone and they will give access through the 5th floor. It is a very cold pool, to the point of taking your breath away. This was my greatest disappointment with the hotel.

Tiffany Restaurant: Breakfast was part of the deal. There was a good variety of western and Asian buffet dishes. I also had an evening seafood buffet which was excellent value, less than $45 for hotel residents, there was an array of cold and hot dishes together with desserts. This is definitely to be recommended.

Executive Club: Having cold non alcoholic beverages available during the day was always welcome after coming in from the heat. In the evening alcohol - wines and spirits are served between 6 to 8 pm. Different warm dishes eg prawn cutlets, chicken skewers, curry puffs together with cheese and biscuits, savoury nibbles and cakes were also supplied.

What the hotel lacks in ambience however is completely overshadowed by the amazing staff in the Executive Club. I would wish to thank, in no particular order: Agnes, Ray, Ivy, Ralph, Mei, and Desmond for their outstanding personalised service and friendship which made my holiday with the Furama so special. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

There are many more flashier hotels in Singapore but what sets the Furama City Centre apart from their competitors is their staff.

Would I stay there again? Most definitely!

There was free wifi in our room and it was quite reasonable. I have heard there may be some black spots but can only say ours worked well.
