A nice, clean hotel in a convenient location with friendly staff. Housekeeping staff are very helpful. A41 bus from the airport stops outside the hotel costs under HK$24 – cheap and convenient. Buses, minibuses and MTR are all within a few minutes walk from the hotel and there is a free shuttle bus to Shek Mun MTR and New Town Plaza.
My adult children used the pool quite often to either get a good start to the day or to unwind after sight-seeing. Free bike rental was a bonus – we spent a morning riding around some of Shatin's traffic-separated cycle paths. The hotel's drinking water dispensers were great to fill up water bottles before heading out for a day's exploration. Food at nearby Shek Mun and City One gave plenty of choices, including traditional Chinese food, bakeries and vegan dishes. The 7-11 convenience store at the hotel entrance was a big plus.
The only negative point – we stayed for 2 weeks, but it was a bit unclear what the policy for changing bedding, towels and emptying rubbish was.
Our party was 5 people in 3 rooms and we all enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel.

The hotel was recommended by our friends, the Wong family from Germany. I had reserved a large room with two beds for me and my three children for two days. Unfortunately, when I checked in, it turned out that the room I had booked was much too small. It had two small beds. The employee informed me that it was too small for four. She then asked, I think it was her supervisor or manager, what I could do and after a short conversation I was given a large family room with two beds and an additional adjoining room with a large king-size bed at no extra charge. It was practically a generous upgrade from the hotel manager. I think I was very lucky and received an even more generous gesture and attention from this manager. That's what I call great customer service. Unfortunately, I wanted to book another three days with the same configuration and conditions, but unfortunately that was no longer possible, which is understandable of course :-) The employees are very friendly and the rooms are very clean. The only drawback, if you can say so, is that it is not so centrally located but it is still easily accessible by public transport (MTR train and bus) and an in-house shuttle bus with 4 stops/destinations.
Unfortunately I can't say anything about the in-house restaurant as we were invited to dinner by relatives on 2 days and therefore didn't use it. My personal conclusion is 9 out of 10 points, only the location deducts one point but that is a personal point of view.

The hotel is new and modern, very room cleaning, spacious room with good furniture, and you can refill the drinking water on the floor, it’s more comfortable, than the bottles of water every day. 3/F had self-laundry service. Infinity pool was very nice view and relax environment.

We got to know about the hotel through friends of ours who were going for their second stay at the hotel. Their raving review managed to convince us to try out the hotel ourselves.
PROS
The hotel is nicely located by the riverside and have a lovely panoramic view of Sha Tin and Ma On Shan from a distant. We had booked the river view room and requested for a high floor. The view of the river and the mountain in the background is really picturesque and calming. The hotel is also conveniently adjacent to YATA minimart where we got ourselves some instant food, drinks, and a bottle of wine.
The room is compact in size with a simplistic minimalist design. Not to mention impeccably clean. We appreciate the strong water pressure and good shower design. The smart TV was working perfectly with HD channels, though no CNN channel. :(
We utilised the free bicycles to cycle along the riverside until we reached Sha Tin, such a memorable experience.
The pool on the top floor is of a good size, and the perfect lookout spot for planes passing through in the sky.

Stayed one week at the end of the year 2023. Room was bright and comfortable and faced the cycling park across the street. The floor to ceiling window gave a gorgeous view of the river and the surrounding neighbourhood. There was a lot of storage space in the room, which would make a longer stay possible.
Bathroom was bright and clean, with a great number of hooks, which was a rarity these days. The shower was difficult to operate at first but they did provide clear instructions. There was no body lotion in the amenity box but one could request for it from housekeeping. The hairdryer was fixed to a drawer in the bathroom, which was a bit inconvenient.
One thing that I found strange was that they did not put bin liners in the rubbish bins, which made it difficult to keep the bins clean. I had to specifically ask housekeeping for bin liners as I wanted to throw out my own rubbish. I also found out that they just threw the stuff I put in the recycle bin into the same bag as the rubbish.
Staff were not very professional. When I asked for simple information at the reception (e.g. shuttle bus time, bike rental arrangement, etc.), they often asked me to go to the concierge. I sometimes got conflicting information from different staff. Staff also seldom offered information voluntarily. I felt like it was easier to get information myself from the hotel website.
The lifts took a long time during peak hours. I waited for 5 minutes on the ground floor once before a lift arrived. The card readers in the lifts were also not very sensitive, which meant that people sometimes missed their floors (I saw it happen a few times during my stay).
All in all, ALVA Hotel was a mid-range hotel with pleasant rooms but could do with better service and management. The room price was exorbitant during the holidays (over $2,300 per night for a standard room) but was reasonable on off-peak days.

This is our second long stay at Alva Hotel by Royal and each time was 30 nights.
The room (apartment with queen bed) is modern and spacious. It has lots of storage space which is good. With long stay package, microwave and small fridge freezer are also provided. The hotel also provides free shuttle to Shek Mun station, Royal Park Hotel at Shatin New Town Plaza and Kowloon Station (at different times) which is very convenient.
And above all, the most important is people at the hotel made you feel very welcoming and comfortable including telephone operators, housekeeping staff, front office, concierge and restaurant. In particular, we would like to show our appreciation to the following staff who are went above and beyond:
1. Eric at Front Office: Eric is very professional and efficient.
2. Ivy at 10th Floor Housekeeping: Ivy is always carrying a pleasant smile with a very genuine and polite attitude. She keeps our room really tidy and clean.
3. Tommy at Housekeeping: Tommy is very nice and helpful.
4. Apple Ng at Sales: Apple is always quick in responding and very professional.
Overall, the services are exceptionally satisfactory and we will definitely choose this hotel again.
