We booked the New Peking Guest House as it was very reasonably priced and we didn’t mind it either since Hong Kong is such an expensive place as it is. The service at the hotel is pretty good. The staff is very well managed was quite helpful. Our room was small but fully functional. It was comfortable and well lit. It was extremely clean and well furnished. Overall I would say it is good value for money and would definitely recommended.

My friend and I stayed 2 nights here. This is my second stay over in Hong Kong. The service was brilliant we didn't even need to ask the questions before we were given answers we would have needed to seek! However, I would like to warn people about the area. Although I didn't feel particularly unsafe, you are going to be assailed by all sorts of people on your way in selling everything from tailored suits to hash! Best to just ignore them. The elevator was also a problem, you wait for ages to get down again. On the plus side there is somebody manning the elevator at all times on the ground floor and once you are used to the riffraff outside it becomes easier. The location is also great, it's very central and there are a number of MTR entrances in the vicinity. The service makes the downstairs issues bearable and I would recommend this guesthouse to anybody.

During my staying in Hong Kong this places was my savior. It is well located in the heard of Kowloon and may be reached easily by KCR. The triple bed room was small yet more than enough for my friends and myself. We spent three nights there and were more than happy. The house lady was always amiable and always trying to make us happy in any way possible. The private shower in the private rooms was good and the hot water was even better. If you are looking for a convenient, safe, cheap place this is the one.

Ordinarily I would give a 3* or even a 4* considering the absolutely lovely owner who would do anything.

However... the rooms are tiny. The walls are tiled giving a bathroom feel and the light poor giving a dinjy feel sadly. It was very clean and the shower very good. But I paid $50 a night which is a record for my own hostel(complete website name yourself) use and sadly the very poorest value for money!

God, and I've not mentioned the lifts (see other reviews) or raved about the location.

We had missed our flight to Hanoi on January 1 and had to look for a new hostel, because our previous one in Hong Kong was full.

Because of the good reviews we went to New Peking Guesthouse and felt immediately very welcome. The private room was cheaper than our previous dorm and was neat and clean. Two beds were a bit hard to sleep on, but comfortable enough.

Private bathroom which is cleaned daily with fresh towels every day. We hung our own towels to dry in the corridor and the owner couple delivered these to us after they had cleaned them, a great piece of service!

Free wifi and in the middle of Kowloon a.k.a. the place-to-be.

New Peking Guest House

1. Price is Reasonable.
2. Room is Small but Very Clean.
3. Our Comfort Room is Quite Big (Room 104) compared to Others.
4. Staff and Owners are Friendly.
5. It is Very Near MTR, Bus Going to Airport and even McDonalds.
6. Elevator is quite a Challenge but mostly in the Evening.
7. Owner even allowed us to check-in earlier than 12noon and we even left our luggages with them after we checked-out since our freturn light is still at 7pm.

Overall, I highly recommend New Peking Guest House! If ever I will go back to Hong Kong I will definitely consider staying there again.

Hong Kong is a place where you can drop a lot of money on a hotel, but this little gem puts you in the middle of all the action and is really easy on your pocketbook.

Owner Peter, his wife and worker will treat you very well and they are very helpful if you need other services. Need a visa to China? Leave your passport with Peter and he'll get it for you. Having done this many times on my own, I know Peter is not making much - if any- money on this service. He has also stored my bags for several days while I made a trip to mainland china and didn't want to carry all my luggage. You really can't ask for a nicer guy. If you book your room online, you will receive an email from Peter with directions to the hotel and a guideline as to how much you should pay for a taxi from the airport. If you have a lot of luggage, spring for a taxi. If not, opt for the train to Kowloon.

Now about the rooms. They are all very small. But they are clean and comfortable with TV and AC. You can save a few dollars by opting for a room with a shared bathroom.

Personally, I go to Hong Kong to see Hong Kong....I'd rather spend my money on activities rather than on a place to sleep, so New Peking is perfect for me. I don't mind the small rooms because I'm only there to sleep and shower.

Located on Nathan Street in the heart of Kowloon, getting to and from anywhere in HK from New Peking is really easy. Buses stop in front of the hotel, the subway station is also very close by. Easily walk to the Star Ferry to get to Central. There's lots of great shopping, restaurants and bars within a radius of two blocks.

As for the building that New Peking is in, Chung King Mansion, it appears to be a bit seedy, but I have never had a problem with security there, nor have I ever felt threatened or unsafe. I find the Chung King building to be an interesting hub of activity with vendors of all sorts, great little food stalls (good Indian food!) and an overall great place just to do some people watching.

New Peking Guesthouse is suprisingly a very clean hostel inside Chungking Mansions. Even though the room is very small for three people, I think the space is acceptable given the sizes of rooms generally in HK. The beds were clean, though a little hard but still comfortable. We were given extra pillows free of charge. The towels were also replaced everyday. The ensuite bathroom was very small but there was a heater and a bathtub. Also, there were drinking water available for all customers. Tip: Bring a water bottle to save money. You can refill your water bottle before leaving the hostel for the day. Wi-fi is free but sometimes, there were problems with the connection.

The downside for the hostel are the lobby and the elevators. The building could be a bit shady to people as there were a lot of Indians at the lobby pestering people and offering accommodations to all guests. All you need to do is brush them off. There are only two elevators inside the building. It will really take time when using it as these are also the elevators used for delivery of supplies of each guesthouse per floor and other tenants of the building. Overall, I would still recommend this guesthouse for the promixity to various restaurants, stores and supermarkets as well as the cleanliness of each rooms. The rates are also affordable if you're on a tight budget and would just want a clean place to sleep in HK.

The Hotel is located in the sketchy Chunking Mansion on Kowloon. It's fairly well located on Nathan Street but beware of the rather odd people hanging out around the entrance and the building. Don't take any advice or offers from these people. There's only 2 elevators working in the building so you have to queue to get to the right level which has your hostel. The hostel owner was extremely friendly and the place seemed very clean even though it was small. Check-in went well and the owner gave advice and they also have a computer to use. The room itself is the smallest I have ever been in. There's just room for a bed and a small closet toilet. It seemed clean. However, when I woke up in the morning my back had been bitten by bed bugs or similar. It wasn't bad but I didn't stay for another night. I think that the whole Chunking Mansion building is fairly infested due to the odd tenants and bugs probably get around even though the individual hostel might be ok. Without the bed bugs would have been good enough.

Stayed three nights in a three bed room with two mates. Not the biggest room but enough for the three of us easily. The room also had a TV, working Air-Con, a fan, and Wi-Fi. Attached was an en-suite with shower and toilet, also small but functional. Everything was cleaned daily and clothes that were left out were nicely folded and placed back for us.

All contact with the staff was good and they spoke English. The only downside of the experience was Chungking mansions itself. It is a big building with multiple hostels and shops inside. As such many hawkers/peddlers stand outside trying to sell you watches etc. There is also only 1 elevator that goes to each floor so the wait can be a bit long at times.
