Detailed Reviews
I had the absolutely total pleasure of staying at this hotel for 5 nights and now am leaving my very positive review of all my time here. The hotel is SO much nicer in person, photos online simply dont do it justice. If I could give it higher rating I would, and if Im lucky to return to Beijing, I wont look elsewhere. The concierge desk did more for us than they should have, they probably noticed we were lost tourists, they took the reigns and made our holiday one to never ever forget about. Funny enough about the location, there is a Wallmart next door.

For my December trip to Bejing I had to arrive at late night and be ready for business the next day. Guest services Venera was very helpful to arrange me the room layout I'm most comfortable with (I spent a lot of time at Wanda lately)and be ready for my late arrival to get to bed without delay. Thank you!

+1
I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in June.
The hotel is located about 45 minutes drive out by taxi from the airport, which costs you around 100 to 120 RMB. Another (much cheaper) option to reach the hotel from the airport is by using the Airport Express. Take the Airport Express train to the first station Sanyuanqiao, switch to line 10 and exit at the Guomao station. You could either walk from the Guomao station or take line 1 to the Dawanglu station but please keep in mind that the line 1 subway is always very busy. Exiting the Guomao station have a look at the BTV tower and walk towards that tower, the hotel is opposite this tower.
I stayed at room 2110, with a great view overlooking the new CCTV tower towards the China World hotel towers. The room was large and was well equipped and I especially loved the TV in the bathroom, where you could watch a movie while taking a bath. Another great future was the rain shower with lovely amenities by l’ Occtaine.
Please bear in mind though when you are going out for the day, and it is sunny outside, to close the drapes in the room. After 2pm the sun is shining in the room which can lift the temperatures in the room to tropical temperatures.
Other nice futures of this hotel is the large swimming pool, the fitness and the spa on the 6th floor.
On my second day I went to the Sunday Brunch of the hotel in the VIC restaurant. This ADD restaurant was also open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I had a pretty good meal with champagne and all the staff including the kitchen staff under the guidance of head chef Mr. Marko where pretty nice and helpful. I especially loved the French pastry’s.
All mayor sightseeing sites are not far away, like the Tiananmen Square is about 30 minutes out by taxi and about 40 by subway line 1 (again mind the rush hour!)
Besides that all mayor sites are easy reachable by the subway of Beijing. Some other sites like the Ming tombs, the great wall and the Summer palace are not reachable by subway but can be booked through the concierge. You could either choose a tour with a group or book a private tour. Prices vary from 300 RMB to 800 RMB.
I had a pretty good stay at this hotel and I will come again once I am in Beijing.

As expected, hotel is nicely decorated with good hardware, Sevice? very inconsistent, senior management must look I to how your staff are trained and provide services. check in was acceptable but breakfast is chaotic. I sat down on a table, ordered coffee, got up to get food, when I came back to the table, it was taken by someone else! Come On , have a system please, the one at china Hotel or any other good hotels would know what to do, even local cheap Inn central has a better system in seating customers,
management please work on it, quite frustrating to see such a good hotel fails so miserably in basic customer service.
room keys. fails every day and need to re-magnetized even though I out two keys separately away from phone or anything electronics. both keys fails everyday during my stay. frustrating

Arriving at this 5-star location in the heart of Beijing's CBD is just what you expect. A myriad of staff around to open doors for you, pick up your bags etc. The lobby is a suitably grand affair, everything seems to be on an oversized scale to impose and impress.
Following that, the bedrooms are a disappointment. Firstly, i have to say that the hotel design (classical chinese, with a twist or european turn of the century and a smattering of modern touches) is not to my taste. Its not bad or in any way offensive to my tastes, but the plethora of dark woods, gold colouring and chintz thats aplattered around doesnt appeal.
The bedrooms epitomise this design element, but the main disappointment with them was that the rooms were small. They werent tiny or uncomfortably small, just not what i had expected from such a hotel (and price).
Everything you'd expect from such a hotel was there... The full set of amenities, a comfortable bed, a decent shower etc. You also get 2 small bottls of local mineral water every day, which is a great touch (they also offer a litre of Evian in your room, for a disgusting £10).
The hotel has a decnt pool area (actually its a huge pool for a hotel) and a good gym (the changing rooms also feature sauna and steam rooms).
The main problem with the hotel is the service. This is a 5-star hotel, charging 5-star prices, but the service was barely 3-star. The loundge staff took anything from 10 minutes to 30 minutes to serve you and and equal time range to bring you a few drinks (despite the area not being busy with other customers)... At one point i waited 40 minutes for 2 coffees when i and my guest were the only people in the lounge and there were 3 staff on hand!
The breakfast buffet had a simliar slapdash approach to service , though the food available was good.
For the price you pay, i certainly expect a certain level of service... This falls way below that level. Not somewhere id reccomend unless you can get a real bargain price

Beautiful hotel with excellent facilities. Very friendly staff and spacious rooms. Also very well positioned in the city, within walking distance of great restaurants and clubs. We spent 6 days here and I personally could have stayed forever. The gym is particularly good and the pool is stunning. We made the stupid mistake of thinking the wifi wasn't working because couldn't get on Facebook or Google. My bad.

This is the first trip to Beijing. Our family stayed at Beijing Sofitel. It is centrally located.
The porters are very attentive. I was particularly impressed with "Terry". He made sure our luggages are well taken care of into and out of hotel. He gave us some good histories on the local area. I particularly like his pleasing smile and kind attentiveness. He made our family feel right at home early in the morning and late at night when we come back.
The hotel is luxurious. It had eloquent decoration. Rooms are spacious. Quality of room materials are good, but had some dents/ scrapes. Overall, very good. View of the room is excellent up high. But there is major construction is going on next street. I am not sure what is going on there, but it is a behemoth big building foundation. I am not sure if the room view in that direction will be blocked by that building in the future. I hope not.
The breakfast is beyond "first class". The variety is the best we had in four five-star hotels we stayed in China. Considering we stayed at hotels use by "Ronald Reagan, Clintons, George Bush 1 & 2, and Obama", that is to say the food is truly "beyond first class". Mr. Frankel, the food manager usually strode by in the morning to make sure all things are taken care of. In short, excellent culinary experience.
Spa and swimming pool are not crowded. I used the swimming pool by myself early in the morning and at night. The plantetarium like ceiling lights which slowly change light every few minutes. That light setting makes swimming backstroke very enjoyable.
Over all, a great hotel. We will definitely come back here for our next Beijing trip.

Bonjour! Thank you for telling us about your experience in the Sofitel Wanda Beijing. It was our pleasure to receive such positive feedback that I will share with my team internally. Your opinion and suggestion are very valuable to us, especially regarding the room materials as well as the influence of the construction site. Regarding the room materials, we are and we will keep doing constant checks and maintenance work on our facilities to ensure the best experience for our guest. We also have noticed the potential influence from the construction site and are currently conducting a project to improve the sound proof ability of the windows, which will help to reduce noise significantly. We hope our work could next visit even better and once again, we appreciate your timely feedback and look forward to welcoming you back again in the near future. Overall the hotel is quite nice except for a few small details, the air con in the room is a bit muggy even if you set it at low temp. you still have to ask the engineering to adjust the central temp., seems like alot of accor hotels lately have this issue.
Then, concerning the food, their buffet area called VIC, dont bother trying, at the level of the price the food choices are limited and the taste is terrible.

Nice room, nice food, long wait for check in, and very hard to get taxi. unless you want to walk 10 min to the super busy metro line 1 and line 10 to get a feeling of the rude and rough metro passenger behavior in BJ. even when we called for a taxi in the front door taxi line, the bell staff gave us a look as if he did not want to get one for us even that is his job!! after 10 min he found a taxi, then the taxi driver won't take anyone except going to the airport!!! that's against the law and the staff won't do anything about it.
there is a wart mart supermarket right next door and lots of good food around the hotel within walking distance from the back entrance. hotel food is great but on the expensive side, not for ordinary business travelers but for the rich
.the checkin process is slow. 3 staff working at snail speed and no one help monitor the check in line so we were cut by rude local people with no help.
disappointed of the service although the hardware is great

Dear Uncle_Vin, Thank you for your comments on TripAdvisor. We apologize that we did not meet your expectations. Taxi is indeed becoming an issue in Beijing and usually it is out of hotel's control; however we will do better training to the bell boy and also will try our best to get taxi for our guests. Regarding the checkin and queue problem, please rest assured that I have already shared your feedback with our Front Office Manager for better organization of the line. Thank you again for your concerns and we hope to better serve you in the future. Best regards, Betty

This was my second stay at the Sofitel which seems to never really hit the mark as a true five-star property. Some Beijing hotels are really geared to foreign guests. The Sofitel, however, seems to have fallen into the category of international hotel with a domestic China service attitude.
My suite was beautiful and quiet. Absolutely no faults except for a burned out bathroom mirror light and a nasty stain in the center of the bedroom carpet. Reception and bell staff were courteous and efficient.
My biggest gripe is the dining experience. Breakfast is a bit hit and miss at the 6th floor restaurant. Dishes are OK with selection that is average for a global chain hotel. But table service is non-existent. For some reason, the Sofitel doesn't believe in having an ample supply of napkins or cutlery. When you ask for coffee, some wait staff will give you a French Press while others will pour weak, lukewarm brown water from a thermos or deliver a cup that has been filled from a common urn. Requests for a napkin are met with stares as in "why on earth would you ever want one of those?" Just go hunting for one on a spare table - it's faster than asking.
The worst offender is the dinner buffet. At a heart-stopping CNY358 (USD60), the dishes are not replenished. Arriving around 7:45 pm, I was told by the hostess that "the best option is the buffet because ordering off the menu will take a long time." She had clearly been told to "sell the buffet tonight." The only thing is that it wasn't a buffet. A buffet has food. The restaurant looked like it had been hit by a cyclone - a good third of the guest tables were stacked with dirty plates, there were empty chafing dishes under the heat lamps, the feature salmon dish was completely picked over right down to the bones, name cards were placed beside platters that had no food and worst of all, the chefs stood around staring at everything as if they just wanted to go home. A napkin, of course, was no where to be seen. Requests for cutlery, a glass of wine and a beer where acknowledged but never delivered.
And what of the staff? They were too busy trying to satisfy the irate diners who were crowding around a service station demanding their receipts in order to pay. It was all quite laughable and rather sad.
Dine elsewhere but if you must endure the F&B at the Sofitel, bring your own dinnerware, an extra supply of patience, a napkin, and be prepared to wait a long time before emptying your wallet. Instead, go to the JW Marriott for delicious and professionally-served meals.

I'm fairly certain you could put 3 people in a room as we were given 2 queen beds in ours. I would email hotel directly to confirm though
Thank you for choosing Sofitel Wanda Beijing first of all. We have limousine airport pick-up service if you would like to book, or you could choose airport shuttle bus which is line no.1, it will drop you to GUO MAO which is walking distance from hotel. Looking forward to see you soon in the hotel.
If your flight arrives at 9:30... realistically you will be at hotel only by 11-ish. Like most hotels, if they have an availability, they will accommodate you ...but if you want guaranteed check-in, then I would suggest the same as Darrell R.
