The place was clean, the location of the hotel was not bad. It's well connected, about 10 min from subway and less from bus stops. The staff was courteous and helpful. The bed was comfy and there were four pillows provided (two soft and two not too soft) which is pretty good. We paid about 500 per night, which I felt was good value for money. The room was quiet and pretty well isolated. There was a doorway that could be opened to connect two rooms - great when traveling with children. Lastly, the shower gel and shampoo were upscale.

To be frank, the breakfast was poor. There was some variety, but not much. The available food was lukewarm (things that were supposed to be hot) and just so-so. I was expecting much more from Holiday Inn (even if it's Express). There was a gym, but that's all you could say about it - two treadmills, a bike and an elliptical. There were no free weights or machines. The rooms were a little worn.

Great location and easy to get around!
The staff was very helpful.
The staff organized a driver for us and we were easily able to make it to the Mu Tian Yu Great Wall.
The breakfast was pretty decent (eggs, sausages, bacon, cereals, rice, noodles, etc.)

Given all the positive reviews, I was a little underwhelmed by this hotel. For the price point it's correct, and it is very well-located to the Temple of Heaven, if a 10mn walk to the nearest metro station. The bed itself was comfortable, but cleanliness was mediocre overall. Could use a fresh coat of paint (dirty walls), the shower wasn't very clean in the corners, and the faucet was loose in my room. Breakfast was not very good, not so much variety. Given how many better hotels there are, not sure I can recommend this property.

Stayed 3 nights in August 2009 (bad month to visit Beijing, its too hot!!). The hotel is either new or has undergone extensive renovations recently, so the rooms are in a really good condition. The free WiFi is fast and easy - both, my laptop and my phone connected without a hitch. They also have free internet terminals (I think there are 8 of them) for guests to use.

The breakfast spread is OK, though not great. The one big problem is a strange smell in the rooms - apparently they have some sort of sanitation issue. However, since we hardly spent time in the room, thats was bearable. Also, the hotel is far from the touristy bits of town (Forbidden City, the lake area etc.), but taxis in Beijing are cheap. However, as we found out, getting a cab suring rush hour can be quite an experience (we waited 45 minutes and walked a few miles before we got one willing to take us back to the hotel one evening).

The best part about the hotel is the staff, especially Mike the Operations Manager - flexible and anticipating guest requests and fulfilling them quickly. Even housekeeping did quite a good job. There was another friendly woman at the front desk, but I forget her name.

On the whole, really good value for money, considering it is an Express by Holiday Inn.

We stayed in this hotel for 10 days during our trip to Beijing. We were very pleased with the hotel. Our room was clean and well maintained, and the staff was very friendly and helpful, arranging and calling cabs for us so we did not have to hail them on the street, since, as other reviewers have correctly noted, some cabbies did not seem inclined to stop for foreigners, perhaps it is because we were there during National Week, a major Chinese holiday. The staff was very helpful, and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. There is a small convenience store that is attached to the front of the hotel, I don't think they are connected to the hotel, but you could get soda and light snacks there, and the prices were quite reasonable.

Breakfast was included in our stay. It seemed that if you came down when the restaurant first opened, there would be mostly Chinese style breakfast choices on the buffet. Around 8:30 it seemed that the buffet choices would change over to more of a "western" style breakfast, with scrambled or hard boiled eggs, bacon (sometimes) sausage (sometimes) and beans in tomato sauce. There was always toast, jams and cold cereals available, as well as fresh cut watermelon daily. Not the most exciting breakfasts offered, but you are in a hotel, and the food was fresh and hot and enough to get you going on your busy day.

The hotel does offer dinner, but it did not seem interesting to us, and we found some wonderful authentic Chinese restaurants (Peking Duck) within walking distance.

The hotel is conveniently located. It is not in the busy part of Beijing, so you get a good night's sleep. it is within walking distance of the Temple of Heaven.

We felt our stay was worth the price we paid, and would recommend to others.

Tips:

To operate the air conditioning in your room, you need to insert one of your room key cards into the slot right inside the door. Keep in mind that if you remove the card, the air conditioning will turn off, so if you want to have a nice cool room when you return from a busy day of sightseeing, leave one of your key cards in the slot. We heard so many people in the dining room complaining that their air conditioning did not work (it was very hot when we were there in October). It was actually because they did not know they needed to use the room key to turn the unit on.

Ask the hotel staff to order cabs for you.

Make sure you get a hotel card with the name and address of the hotel written in Chinese, so you can show it to a cab driver when you want to return to the hotel after your day is finished.

Let the hotel arrange for your transport back to the airport.

The hotel also can arrange day trips to all of the various sites in Beijing, such as The Great Wall. We booked one trip to The Great Wall through the hotel, and had a remarkable, unforgettable day!! The guide spoke excellent English, we had an air conditioned van, and we get to see and do much more than we expected. Well done.

We used IHG points to stay here and have a little luxury. Good location, easy to catch subway about 1 mile away at TAORANTING, but the line that the subway is on isn't much use apart from changing to other lines. More useful are the buses that go from the end of the Nanwei Road (towards the subway direction)

The 59 goes to the Railway station by way of Tiannamen Square
The 66 goes to Tiannamen Square. Both cost 1 RMB each or 0.40 RMB if you have the Beijing Card. Service was superb each time we used them.

The hotel is nicely air conditioned with a free breakfast.
Rooms have the usual en suite bathroom - although its a glass bricked walled affair, so if you turn the bathroom light on in the night, then the light comes through. The door to the shower swings back and becomes the bathroom door. Shower fantastic, with free LUX shower gel and shampoo. Usual free toothbrushes, toothpaste and combs.

There is the option of having the hotel do your laundry or paying 15 RMB per machine to do your own in the laundry centre on the 3rd floor. That's 15 RMB per wash and 15 per dry. Worked really well. Washes take about 30 minutes, drying was about 40 minutes.

There's a small store in the lobby area that sells all manner of last minute items, water, snacks, cold beer, toiletries, SIM cards etc. There's also a small "super market" attached, but it's expensive. Far better options along the smaller shops a little further away, or use WUMART on the corner of Nanwei Road and the TaiPing road, open 0800-2200.

Breakfast includes chinese and western buffet - from boiled and scrambled and fried eggs, to weird sausages, a variety of bacon, noodles, vegetables, salads, bread, a toaster, croissants, congee, dumplings and breakfast cereal. There's a variety of hot drinks, coffee, water, milk. Fruit juices each day and Beijing yoghurt (delicious). Breakfast is from 0600-1030 weekdays and 0630-1030 at weekends. Load up and last the day!

Free decent speed wifi internet throughout the hotel. There's a "restaurant" on the second floor where breakfast is served open until 10pm if you don't find food anywhere else and they also have internet stations and chairs you can lounge in. Bank of China ATM in the lobby also.

Had a great stay, very comfortable, friendly staff.

Clean and comfortable rooms, very helpful staff. Breakfast was ok (asian style foods),although the choices were not many, but sufficient.
The hotel is located in Beijing downtown, near (40 min walking) of Temple of Heaven. Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Wangfujing are close if you're in a cab.

Stayed in HIE Temple of Heaven for 13 nights in Sept 2012, family of four in 3 rooms. A well placed no frills hotel that provides a buffet breakfast with plenty of choice, though the food was sometimes rather cold if you were a late starter. Reception area a bit basic, but luggage trollys are available and the staff on reception speak very good english. The rooms are cleaned and towels changed daily and beds changed on request. Air conditioning very effective and the room we were in had a safe and free Wifi. Subway and buses within walking distance and easy to find a taxi on the road in front of hotel. Public transport and taxi fares are cheap, buses and taxis are slow because of trafic congestion. Wu Mart Supermarket 2 mins walk and several restaurants within 5 mins walk.

Temple of Heaven Holiday in is a wonderful 3+ star hotel. It’s very clean and a convenient location. Plenty of public transportation available. Busses, taxi and uber. The hotel offers a complimentary buffet breakfast every morning which gives you a great start to each day, and one less meal out of pocket. This hotel covers both western and eastern needs with plenty of well thought amenities. The hotel staff are always available, friendly and helpful. The location is 10 mins from a major shopping area Hong Quaio Pearl Market. A taxi to/from the airport to hotel is approximately $30-40 usd.

I recommend taking 4-5 taxis from the train station. (Depending on the amount of luggage you’re carrying) It’s about 20 yuan ($3usd) per taxi. Otherwise it’s a 35 min walk with luggage. The walk is easy, however the sidewalks are irregular and it may be challenging for some. Just a tip, have everyone download google translate app on their phones, and download offline chinese. Then they can type in holiday inn express temple of heaven. Hope this helps.
