Basecamp Masai Mara earns high marks for its exceptional amenities, with guests enjoying well-appointed tents boasting river views and the chance to immerse themselves in local culture and wildlife. The hotel's location is lauded for its scenic vistas and proximity to nature. While the rooms are celebrated for their comfort and authenticity, there have been mentions of wildlife encounters and some unmet expectations. Cleanliness is a standout feature, with the camp's tidy environment and fresh food receiving compliments. However, opinions on value are mixed, as praises for the staff's warmth and helpfulness are offset by concerns over costs and service issues such as reservation inflexibility.

We stayed at the camp for 3 nights and it was the best experience. The camp was absolutely clean and beautiful. The most impressive thing was everything in the room was a step towards a green planet - the shampoo, soap dispensers were refillable and the glass bottles. Not just that, even when they packed the food for safari, they made sure it was near to zerowaste packaging like reusable crockery and glass bottles. In addition the staff were really hospitable and extra polite. Absolutely fabulous stay. Just as a cherry on the cake, while having breakfast on the last day, we saw a leopard right from the breakfast table on the other side of the river. What a great location - we also had the best sunset pictures captured from the hotel. Thanks for making the stay so memorable.

We stayed for two nights, could have stayed for longer. The camp is honest and eco luxury. The resort supports the local community. There is no pool but don't be put off, you won't need it or have time for it. It is situated right on the Talek River. Outdoor spaces for each tent look onto the river and over an open Plain. The staff are friendly, obliging, warm & welcoming. The food is delicious 😋 served in an open dining area, serving fresh ingredients such as Lake Victoria caught Tilapia and local fruit & veg. Each tent is well furnished, full off local Maasai influence in its decor. Comfy beds, outdoor experience shower, comfy seating outside. Turn down service even includes a hot water bottle!! (not that it was needed!) You are escorted to your room by traditionally dressed Maasai after dark due to wild animals roaming. We woke up to animals 40m across the river on the opposite bank.
Would definitely recommend and revisit. Thanks to all the staff for making our first stay in the Mara amazing

Upon arrival at Basecamp Masai Mara we were very excited, however this excitement was very short lived. Our initial welcome to the camp was unenthusiastic, as if the staff had far better things to do. During our welcome brief the receptionist looked over our shoulders the entire time. Unfortunately the rest of the staff we not much better. Our tent was overlooking the river and was comfortable inside, it was especially nice to go to bed at night to find hot water bottles had been left. However it would have been nice to have somewhere to sit outside like we saw the other tents had (not sure why we had no seating area as there was plenty of room) The best part of the room was the outdoor shower which had plenty of hot water and watching the monkeys play outside. The food was hit and miss. Overall our stay here was average, it did not detract from our fantastic experience of safari but we would not return nor recommend this camp to anyone we know. It’s a shame because they seem to have such good reviews from past customers so maybe we were unlucky.

Dear Guariz, Thank you very much for choosing Basecamp Masai Mara as your safari destination and we appreciate you taking the time to provide us with feedback. Through such interactions, we have continued to improve our service delivery, enabling us to grow from strength to strength. We are sorry to hear that you had a negative experience. Our staff members are always warm, friendly and welcoming and we have counseled them against making guests feel unwelcome. In regard to the outdoor seating amenities, we apologize that they were not made available to you during your stay with us. Indeed this outdoor seating area is meant for guests to enjoy the views of the savannah from the comfort of their tent viewing deck. We have also noted your concern with our menu and we will endevour to have our skilled in-house chefs prepare delicious meals every time. It is our priority to ensure all guests receive an outstanding experience, while in a safe and welcoming environment. Nonetheless, we are glad to hear you enjoyed our accommodations and amenities. We would be happy to host you once again to ensure we deliver at the service levels that Basecamp is renowned for. Basecamp Team.

I can say that Masai Mara basecamp is more than what we've expected. 100% recommended!! The place is very peaceful, very clean, you'll wake up in the morning with an amazing view of animals (giraffes, baboons, elephants, zebras and buffalos). There are masai's who guards all through the night to make sure all the guests are safe and will accompany you if you wanna go to the lobby or restaurant (since it's very dark at night). The food was surprisingly good too! Wasn't expecting a very decent food to be served especially i guess since the place is very remote - the chef personally comes to us and ask how we are, how's the food etc. Them having no wifi in the rooms and common areas makes the stay better as we felt very disconnected from the outside world and just cherish every minute of our stay and really just connect more with the nature and my partner (they have wifi in the lobby only) The best part of the stay are the rooms and the STAFF! All the staff are amazing, especially want to give recognition to Silanke. He's very genuine, accommodating, and made us feel home and comfortable. He went beyond his tasks and i can say that we made a really good friendship with him in the camp and remember him! Silanke, if you're reading this, we will be sending you a printed photo of us and the piggy game we were playing in the camp and please add us on facebook too!! :)

If we will have another chance to visit Masai Mara, this is where we're gonna stay again and definitely would recommend to our friends and family!

We had an amazing stay at Basecamp. We were able to visit the Mara during the wildebeest migration, when the park is usually packed with tourists, but it was much quieter than usual during this period (Aug 2020), so a great time to visit!

The staff at Basecamp were fantastic. They were very accommodating of our dietary requirements (vegan and vegetarian). It was my birthday during our stay, and they prepared an excellent birthday cake and performed a Maasai happy birthday song - it was so generous of them. Thank you @BCMM team for that!!

The camp was safe and clean during COVID restrictions, including having sanitizer widely available, floor markings, and the staff wearing masks. The food was excellent. It was such a great place to unplug and see the wildlife. Thank you Basecamp, we will be back soon!

Wow.. this basecamp took my breath away, the tents are spacious and so comfortable, we loved the outdoor shower , you are really in touch with nature here. Guides keep you safe at night, escorting you to the restaurant or reception area.
Compliments to the chef for serving us delicious vegetarian meals, we loved the veg tartlet , all staff were attentive, professional and caring.
Our guide Agnes was the best, she certainly went that extra mile, she ensured we had a great experience.
Hygiene standards were spot on, all staff worn face masks, adhered to social distancing and hand sanitiser was widely available.
A huge thank you to everyone for making our stay a memorable one. I would highly recommend a stay at this basecamp, please take pens etc for the children near by, it will be appreciated.

My partner and I visited the Basecamp property for 3days and 2 nights. We were driving in from Kampala through Nairobi and Ibrahim at the reservations office was of great help, sending us all the necessary information and links that led us to the gate. The drive was quite long and tiring, 4-6hrs but when we eventually made it the scenery made us happy and excited for the next days save for the lacking reception as the chef was unavailable and couldn’t order any meals between those included in the package.
After this everything else was perfect, we were checked into our beautiful canvas tent facing the river that was equipped with the basic amenities drinking water, towels, shampoo, conditioner, lotion and shower gel all packaged in nice recycled aluminum cans. The tent had two bathrooms one on the outside and another on the inside all with hot showers and a lovely hammock on the outside that we didn’t get to use much🙁. We then went on to have an amazing safari drive with a very skilled and cheerful lady driver called Nash and our guide named Jacob who were kind enough to drive us all the way to the Mara river and also lead us back to the nearest exit on our departure through the Eagle view camp another of their beautifully positioned camps where we we able to catch lions mating and the rest of the herd enjoying a feast after a successful hunt.
Overall our experience here was one we shall always remember, the chef did make up for the poor reception as al the meals during our stay were to die for and always plated in a lovely way.
We most definitely have to come back and would recommend this to anyone who is still confused on whether to make the payment or not. Thank you Basecamp and keep up the amazing work 🤩.

Based on our description of what we wanted from the trip; our tour provider recommended that we stay at Base Camp whilst in Maasai Mara It was amazing, and provided a huge tent sort of room, with hot showers, and was clean and safe - whilst providing an authentic safari experience. Maasai locals guided us around the camp at night, which was a nice touch and added an additional safety element from lions potentially roaming into the camp. The food was amazing and all of the staff were extremely polite and helpful.

We wanted as authentic a safari experience as we could get, and we certainly got that!

We were met at the airstrip by our guides Jay and Dixon, both Maasai tribesmen and who would be our personal guides for our whole stay. We struck up a rapport with them both immediately and by the end of our stay were very sorry to say goodbye to them. They were both knowledgeable and passionate about conservation and showing us their most amazing country. Jay and Dixon, thank you so much, you guys made an amazing experience all the better.

The camp is simply stunning. A challenging walk across a slightly wobbly bridge over the river brings you into the camp. The tents are wonderfully appointed. Comfortable beds, indoor and outdoor showers, and with verandas overlooking the river where we saw all sorts of wildlife coming and going from the comfort of our swing chair. Baboons, golden monkeys, mongoose, eagles to name but a few.

Meals area taken in the restaurant tent. Don’t expect a la carte. You’re in the middle of the bush! But the food is delicious. Breakfast is fruit salad to start, and then cooked breakfast which, after an early morning game drive we were more than ready to pounce on and devour like one of the lions we had just seen on a fresh kill!

Lunch and dinner were both soup to start, a choice of mains (usually meat or vegetation) with an occasional fish option, and the dessert. We enjoyed every single meal without exception. We also had our own waiter who served us every meal which made us feel that little bit more special too.

We also had visitors at meal times. The camp has a resident warthog that likes to graze along side the diners, and the monkeys and baboons are usually around, though they keep a good distance.

The game drives were just fantastic. Just when you thought you’d seen everything, a new animal appeared. The list of things we saw is simply too long to go into. But we got 4 of the big 5, only missing the Rhino which, hadn’t been seen by anyone for around a week. But seeing the Leopard up close more than made up for that. We also had the cheetahs so close that one of them actually marked our truck as his territory!

We also took up the invitation to visit the Maasai village. A small fee of $30 per person which goes to paying for the village kids’ school fees, got us an experience not to forget. We danced with the tribesmen and women, saw how they lived, learned how to make fire without the use of matches, and got to look at and purchase some of their traditional beadwork and jewellery. A visit we’ll worth the entry cost and a fantastic experience.

All in all, our safari experience at base camp was everything we could have wished for and more!

We WILL visit you again.

Thank you
