I have been visiting the hotel more so for meals.
The hotel has continued to comply with the covid 19 protocols which is very impressive.
The Bashasha coffee shop offers a wide range of both international and local cuisine.
There is a social distancing arrangement in all areas of the hotel.
Water tanks for washing your hands in all guest areas starting at entry, the reception and conference rooms.
Hand sanitizers are available too, with every staff you meet wearing a face mask.
I like the hotels swimming pool which is heated and has a nice ambience where one can order for refreshments and meals.
Maitai at reception is jovial and welcoming.
David and Wesley are very helpful and make you feel at home.
The Heron Portico is my hotel of choice.
I will surely keep on visiting the hotel.

The best consideration in my opinion on deciding whether I feel confident about which hotels are managing the virus threats is to observe (seriously) and with due consideration to my personal needs to only enter into an environment where the rules of social disturbance, necessary sanitising of all furniture and surfaces etc are diligently carried out and where I see for myself the staff constantly following the rules in a way that I find shows me they are appropriately trained and I feel confident they know how important the critical criteria is required by any guest, their colleagues and managers. I want to feel comfortable because I can realise that the hotel staff and management knows how vital it is to protect everyone. I have visited Heron Portico during the past months only because of the way the hotel has adapted to the need for following the rules that we have all come to know. Tables and chairs are sanitised with a high pressure machine before you sit. Masks are worn by all staff and washing stands and hand sanitisers are positioned at each entrance within the hotel. The only areas accessible are in the open air and tables are appropriately distanced compliant with the relevant rules. Customers are politely made aware of the need for safety and those who visit Heron are responsible and readily accept the situation as good citizens and visitors are expected to. The hotel remains friendly and homely with the same high quality service, food and drinks as it has always been renowned for in its uniquely positioned location within Nairobi. Safe, and closely managed by David the General Manager as well as his team who are still incredibly professional and welcoming despite the challenging circumstances that we are going through. I remain confident and feel safe when I am in Heron. It’s a good spot for anyone looking for a hotel that is strictly following the rules of Covid safety first and foremost.....!

I decided to visit this great hotel for lunch.
From the entrance of the main gate till time to leave, the experience was really memorable.
At the main gate, temperature was taken by a smiling security officer who welcomed me.
On arrival at the main entrance of the hotel, a water tank for washing hands is placed.
I was welcomed by the smiling Fridah at reception. On enquiry where I could have a meal, she gladly directed me to the Bashasha cafe. Eunice the Supervisor took my order of fillet steak, fries and flesh orange juice.
The food was really delicious, this is the best hotel for steaks.
Having visited other hotels in the city, I was amazed by the efficiency of the staff. The hotel cares for it's guests and obtains feedback.
A supervisor who introduced himself as David came to my table enquiring how my visit and meal was and could see him interacting with other guests.
To me, this is absolute customer service. Congratulations the Heron Portico team, I will be back soon.

I am a frequent visitor of The Heron Portico Hotel.
The services provided have continued to improve day by day and the value for money is highly realised.
Covid 19 protocols have continued to be adhered to, hand washing tanks and sanitizers placed at strategic positions in the hotel.
I had an hair cut at the saloon located within the hotel and it was done properly as my expectations.
The swimming pool is very clean and heated as usual.
The Bashasha coffee shop offers a wide range of both local and international cuisine.
I ordered chicken curry with rice, for sure the meal was yummy.
Thanks a million to their chef.
Staff are very helpful and would do whatever it takes to ensure guests are happy.
Wesley, Friday, Maitai, Fred are very professional in their duties.
Thank you David for always ensuring my visits and stays are enjoyable.
I will continue visiting this hotel and recommend it to any visitor coming to Nairobi.

It is always a pleasure to stay here. Everything you need is right at your fingertips. The staff are very welcoming and it really feels like home. I am currently sitting in the restaurant after eating the most amazing omelette in Kenya, thanks to the awesome chef Jared. The wait staff are just as amazing and you’ll be in safe hands if Lavender and Sarah are on duty.
I highly recommend the Heron Portico if you are looking for reasonably priced accommodation that spares no expense on hygiene and cleanliness.

This is my third Heron Portico visit. While I can't know this, my distinct impression is that the Indian ownership is starving the property for infrastructure investment. As a travel journalist. I HAVE TO HAVE dependable wifi and sleep. Wifi is now a joke. It's so weak, drops off constantly, I moved rooms and STILL it didn't work. I lost multiple days of work running up and down the stairs about the wifi, then hot water, then no water, a broken shower head which never got fixed, one thing after another. People at the front desk would promise things, then I had to run down stairs to ask for them over and over and over. Things as simple as an extra towel or a pillow, toilet paper. Someone would nod and say right away and then two hours later, nothing. The plumbing is eccentric. The building itself is lovely, but the guts are old and cranky, and nobody is upgrading either the plumbing or the wifi service. The staff works hard, is lovely, but these breakdowns in basics ruin the experience. Good food does NOT make up for lousy wifi, which is essential now to all travelers. We would trade that lovely breakfast for dependable wifi, and people who would deliver the small things when they said they would. No business traveler I know would tolerate wasting two days' worth of work time with bad wifi, unpredictable water for a nice breakfast. I went three days without a shower: first, water was so scalding I couldn't use it, and nothing I did with the controls brought the heat down. Then I was moved to a lovely room, there the water wasn't hot at all, only cold, and then it turned off altogether. I couldn't even bathe in the sink. I appreciate the kind staff but until the owners make some kind of investment in the building, the hotel will suffer, and so will guests who are seeking the basics: decent wifi, hot water for showers, and a good night's sleep. If I want to go without I will head to the bush to tent. I do plenty of that already. When I pay for a hotel in town I have the right to expect the basics. This lovely hotel is not living up to its first impressions, which are stunning. FIX the wifi. FIX the plumbing. When a guest needs an extra towel, take care of it, and stop waiting until the guest has to hoof it downstairs and ask two or three more times for the same things. Because by then they are mad.

I have to compliment Heron Portico for the way it’s management continues to provide high quality service to guests so consistently. The staff are attentive and always helpful and friendly. The adherence to Covid awareness is a good confidence factor when I consider the choice of hotels in Nairobi central. Staff are all being offered the opportunity to be vaccinated through a program organised by the Heron Portico management team and the Spa has been opened with appropriate anti virus procedures. This fitness service is welcome for work-out enthusiasts and anyone who is looking for a personalised trainer to work with them to build back after any medical conditions in a sanitised environment. The coffee shop does brisk trade and Eunice the head waitress is always on hand to provide excellent professional attention to help customers. My favourite hotel in this part of Nairobi for sure….

I regularly visit this hotel for my meetings. This is the perfect place in terms of location. It is near CBD and a very safe and secure environment. They have followed the government protocol as far as Covid 19 is concerned. Washing stations are placed at focal points of the premises which is a good show that they care about their clients. The security guard checks your temperature at the entrance without fail and records them. This really impressed me.Their food is super delicious and portioning is done properly. I ordered a platter of nyama and indeed this was to my expectation. The service from Wesley was very impressive fast and professional. Mr.David kept on checking on us and this was a good show that the hotel cares about their guests. I will keep on using this facility for my meeting and recommend it to anyone around Nairobi.
