I stayed in this resort for 2 nights. The first was in a 2nd floor ocean front room. There is no elevator, but staff helped with luggage. The bed was VERY firm and made a crackly sound. The waves broke against the sea wall and were very loud. I changed rooms to a villa. It was much nicer. Bed was better, waves more subtle. Unfortunately, the hot tub never heater - BOO! I tried to resolve a price cut as I was checking out, but the manager was away on "bank business"; did not answer her phone; front hotel staff had no authority to do anything. The villa was much nicer than the regular room - as it should for a lot more money. Very modern and clean. Breakfast was super - eggs Benedict with proscuito , nice fruits and pastries. Had free shuttle to craft shopping and back.

Hi Alice Thank you for taking the time to write a review on Coral Sea Resort, it is important for myself and my Management Team so as we can continually improve the Resort and our offerings. As we are located directly next to the Coral Sea, when tides are high, in particular throughout the wet season the waves do increase, get a little 'wild & woolly' and at times they do become louder. Thank you for passing on the information about the beds, I do apologize for this - we are currently having our Maintenance Team checking all beds. Once I was made aware of your concerns with your room from your first night of stay, I spoke with you directly and provided a room show for our Villas. Whilst in the process of this, I gave you a run down on our Villas features, also explaining to you that the Villas did come at a higher price - which you were more than happy with. Unfortunately, Yes there was an issue with the heating of the spa, on your request we filled the spa on the adjoining vacant Villa so you could use this at your leisure. On the day you checked out, I was attending Resort business and didn't have my phone, unfortunately at times it is necessary. I am delighted that you loved our breakfasts, this I will pass onto our Chefs. Also am extremely happy you enjoyed the free shuttle, which was our VIP car, provided for your leisure, Free of Charge, to compensate for some of the inconvenience you experienced. Again thank you for your feedback, I will action your points so as we can provide a Premium service for all our guests. If you are in Honiara again, please do not hesitate to contact me and I would love to welcome you back. Kind Regards Annemarie Day Resort Manager

Breakfast is ok, but other meals are sub-par. Better off eating samosas from a street vendor. The staff was very friendly and helpful as I was delayed due to a tropical cyclone and had to stay an extra two days. Oddly, though tipping is illegal in the Solomon Islands, meal checks always have a recommended gratuity . . .

Hi James Thank you for taking the time to write a review on Coral Sea Resort and Casino. Myself and my staff pride ourselves on not just meeting but exceeding our guests expectations, so I am disappointed to hear that you have found our Restaurant and food 'sub par'. On both of your stays at Coral Sea Resort and Casino both myself and my staff engaged in many conversations with you, however unfortunately we were not made aware of your disappointment - had this been the case then I would've addressed it immediately for you. In regards to gratuity/tipping, it is a company policy that there is to be no tipping in the Casino, however this is allowed, welcomed and appreciated by staff working in the Resort. Should you have the time, would you be able to contact me directly on annemarie.day@coral-sea-resort.com to elaborate on what we missed and can improve. I look forward to hearing from you. Kind Regards Annemarie Day Resort Manager

I get the feeling that for the Solomon Islands, this is a very good hotel. By international standards, however, it could be improved. The room was really nice - with a great view of the sea. The bathroom was large and the shower was great. The AC was quiet and kept the room cool when it was 35 degrees outside. There are two fairly good restaurants. And when it rained, they had umbrellas for us.

There were some minuses. The pool is small and is open to people outside of the hotel. There is a "boardwalk" but there are concrete pylons everywhere making it look more like a construction site. It is too bad that the area near the sea is not tended to in a meaningful way. Not that people would swim there, as it is too close to the harbor, but it would be nicer to sit and look at grass or trees, and not just concrete barricades.

Breakfast was a major disappointment. Although breakfast is "included" with the room - this is only a basic breakfast that includes cold tea, some fruit, and rather dodgy muffins. For two people to have eggs and a coffee was almost 50 USD - and took about 30 to 40 minutes to prepare. This was a disappointment, considering that the rooms are not inexpensive.

So, definitely the place to stay in Honiara. Some attention to the outdoor areas and breakfast would make it an even better hotel.

When we checked in, we paid cash in SBD (local currency) for our room, although our Booking.com invoice quoted USD and AUD. It was only when I got to the room that I realized they overcharged me. I had booked prior on Booking.com, had cancelled and later rebooked at a lower rate. They had charged me the prior booking amount and there was a difference of about $490 SBD.

I went to the front desk to get it sorted out and it took almost an hour to get it resolved, then when we had it worked out, they said they did not have access to the cash drawer any more, that I would need to come back the next day. I had them give me a receipt for the refund amount due.

The next morning I had to come to the front desk three different times and it all had to be figured out again, even though the amount of overpayment had already been resolved the night before.

A waste of almost two hours of my vacation due to their error.

The room itself was clean, although the bed was quite small, seemed even smaller than a standard full size mattress.

The restaurant was surprisingly expensive, close to what we would pay in Seattle for similar food items.

Located on the west side of town so you have to walk to get to anything located more in the center of Honiara (restaurants, museum, shopping, etc.).

Hi Brian Hi James Thank you for taking the time to write a review on Coral Sea Resort and Casino. Myself and my staff pride ourselves on not just meeting but exceeding our guests expectations, so I am disappointed to hear that your experience with our Front Desk was not up to satisfaction. I firstly would like to apologize with the mix up in the incorrect rate being charged for your stay, this I am currently looking into. In regards to the process of the refunding, as per our booking policy there is a required deposit to be left on check in, guests are able to do this via leaving a credit card or cash. If a guest is to pay by cash, then this is immediately 'dropped' in a safe and is then accessed by an authorized Manager either on that shift or the day following. I was made aware that you had left your deposit in cash, and that you were also informed at the Front Desk that you would be able to receive what was not used of your deposit on check out. As you informed my Reception Team that you would be checking out at 11am the next day, you were informed that a refund of all owing to you would be accessible from 9am on that day - this you were more than happy with. I was onsite from 8:45am on the day you left to facilitate this for you, however you had checked out early. In regards to our Restaurant - Haydn's Restaurant is The Signature Restaurant of the Resort, it provides guests with a diverse array of dishes with ingredients from Local and Offshore Suppliers. Our menus in both our Restaurants provide a wide selection of items that cater for everyone, ranging from snacks $6 US/$8 AUD (approximately) up to $70 US/$90 AUD-costings that are very similar to our competitors. Should you have the time, would you be able to contact me directly on annemarie.day@coral-sea-resort.com to elaborate and discuss this further. Again I apologize that you found somethings of your stay less than satisfactory, If you are in the Solomon Islands again, please do let me know and I like to welcome you back to Coral Sea Resort. I look forward to hearing from you. Annemarie Day Resort Manager

Welcoming and friendly staff. Very helpful as well. Comfortable bed. The restaurant serves beef imported from Australia.
The evening concerts can be a little disruptive if one is trying to get to sleep early, but on the other hand are very entertaining if not.
The rooms are well maintained. When I was there the pool was undergoing major maintenance and thus unavailable.

The property is generally well maintained and clean. It's particularly nice compared to the surrounding neighborhood (there isn't even a street outside right now). Rooms were spacious and everything seemed to work well. There were a lot of bugs inside, but rooms come with mosquito spray and Raid, so that must be their normal. Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Restaurant staff is a mixed bag though. We had good service the first night in the restaurant even though they appeared very busy. The second night was a struggle though. My friend ate her entire meal before mine even arrived, it was difficult to get drinks, 30-40 minutes to get a bill to pay. It appeared as if it took 5 employees to figure out how to get a glass of wine. There is often more employees than customers.

We stayed in the luxury waterfront villa, it was very nice but a few things were not as they described. First off we had the unit that was closest to the ocean but when you looked straight out of your room what you actually saw is the side of the restaurant, you could also see the ocean but the restaurant being the first thing you see wasn’t ideal. We also were expected a working jacuzzi but it was empty of water and smelled because the lid was closed and with it being hot and humid it smelled bad. I asked the front desk and they said you have to tell them ahead of time if you want to use the jacuzzi, there wasn’t anything on the reservation that told us we needed to notify them beforehand.
The villa was very nice and had plenty of room, comfortable bed, beautiful bathroom plus it was very nice to have a fridge. The food at both restaurants was good and there is a casino but we never went there. Staff was very nice and helpful.
It is a nice place that I would stay at again!

Hi ManD, thank you for your recent review on our property. Your feedback concerning the Luxury waterfront villas is duly noted and i apologize for the short comings on our part. We do not leave the villa jacuzzis full for sanitary reasons obviously ensuring the safety of our guests is of paramount importance and to avoid being wasteful with water they are not automatically filled up upon check in. Again, my apologies if this did not meet your expectations. The Jacuzzi itself takes around an hour to fill up, and another hour to reach optimal temperature. Not that long of a wait in my opinion however, we all are going to have different expectations when it comes to these things. I will address this concern with my staff and will remedy for future guests. I appreciate your positive feedback as well! This will be passed on directly to my department heads and staffing group. They will really appreciate your kind words. Until next time, i wish you safe travels and looking forward to your next visit. Regards, Mr. Trent Allan - Resort General Manager

I stayed at Coral Sea Resort & Casino for 7 nights while traveling for business in October 2023. This was my second time staying at Coral Sea. The first time I stayed in one of their villas. This time, I had a smaller yet nice room with a garden view. In my opinion, this is where you should stay in Honiara. The hotel was nice and clean, the room had everything I needed, and the staff was pleasant. There is a choice of 2 restaurants and both are great. I ate brekfast at Haydn’s every morning and also ate lunch and dinner there a few times. I also dined at the other restaurant right by the sea twice. I didn't go in the pool, but it was open. I didn't go in the casino, but they have one. There is no gym/fitness centre. 5 stars for Coral Sea. No issues to report. I recommend this hotel to both business travellers and families. I will return.

We stayed here for one night before and again after a dive trip. Very nice place- rooms comfortable and clean. Pool clean, good food in restaurant, great limeade(!) , incredible staff who went out of their way to be helpful by calling the local airport when my dive bag was stuck in LA. It arrived in time the next afternoon!
I would have given 5 stars but the view, while ocean, is not particularly attractive. I’m not sure if they’re renovating the ocean front area….

Hi Sue, thank you for your recent review on our property - I am somewhat disappointment with your comments however, or the fact that your review has not been adjusted. This morning, prior to check out you were contacted by the executive housekeeper (after we received your review overnight) whom explained exactly where to locate the the blanket and offered to change out your pillow for one of a desirable feel to which you declined. If any of your concerns were raised with staff or management prior to posting a tarnishing review all of your listed concerns could and would have been rectified. Please be sure to alert staff in any property you are occupying and allow them to assist you prior to publishing a review on any platform. I will look to ensure my staff are passing on this information on to all guests in the future. If you would like to stay with us again, please feel free to contact me directly at trent.allan@coral-sea-resort.com and i will personally look at your booking. Otherwise, i wish you all the best at one of the inferior hotels available in Honiara. Safe travels. Regards, Mr. Trent Allan - Resort General Manager

No the hotel is not close to the airport. I would not recommend staying there overnight the road from the airport is just potholes and whilst the distance is not far the time to get there is probably around an hour if you are lucky. The Japanese are rebuilding the road so the roadworks slow the traffic even more. I understand the road will be finished early 2019 so the trip will be shorter then. I just asked my daughter who works for DFAT in Honiara and she says it depends on your standards. Two that are closer are the Pacific Casino and the Honiara Hotel but they are very very basic, although the meals at the Honiara Hotel are definitely recommended. Her suggestion if you expect Western standards stay at the Coral Sea which is lovely, or the Heritage Park or the Medana and allow at least an hour to get to the airport.
