Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Judy and Jane were fantastic hosts - right there when we needed them (to borrow a big pot to cook uga from the market), but gave us heaps of privacy as well. Location is super handy to everything - Alofi for shopping and eating out, and Utoko reef for snorkelling are on the doorstep. If you want a fancy resort you should go to Matavai, if you want to have a relaxing, self-catering, close to everything, friendly place to stay go to Taloa Heights. Can't recommend enough!

A lot of people are told that the place to stay in Niue is the Scenic Matavai Resort. The thing about staying in the resort is that it is on its own about 20 minutes drive from Alofi and you end up just staying and eating there especially if you don't want to rent a car ro have a few drinks in the evening. If you do want to get a good feel of island life and to mix more with local people, it pays to stay near in or near the town centre where you can walk down to market, and go to the different eateries and bars or hang out in the square in the evening. Taloa Heights is 5 minutes walk from the town centre and are run by the lovely Judy and Jane who cannot do enough to make you feel welcome, while at the same time respecting your privacy. The units are of an extremely high standard, cosy and has all the facilities you need for a self catered holiday. There is a really nice swimming pool and seating area for you to enjoy. And its very reasonably priced and the views from the unit of the ocean are amazing. I cannot recommend Taloa Height and its lovely host enough. Thanks so much Judy and Jane for making our stay in Niue a very memorable one.

The location was convenient however the bright lights at night from the parliament building next door were a killer for the "dark sky" experience. Non- existant. There is no fan, no TV and the wifi does not work reliably. We hired a modem so I could do a zoom meeting. No extra blankets provided and one night was bloody chilly. We eventually were provided with a comforter (too warm!). No broom or cleaning supplies so the floors got dirty and the only ONE kitchen knife provided was HUGE and broken Iand dangerous. We bought one to use. AND no can opener in the kitchen. Overall, for the price, not great value.

We have just had 2 weeks in Niue Island staying at Taloa Heights. They are just getting going again following being shut down for so long due to covid. The pool has been renovated and is really nice and I was in and out of it all day from 8am. Some things were still not working like the TV(which we could do without) and the stove which we couldn't ,so they got us a 2 element bench top cooker to use, which was ok for our use. We stayed in the 2 bedroom villa which was very nice. It is ideally situated within walking distance of the wharf, the store and some cafe/bars

We went as a family group so booked 3 bungalows at Taloa Heights. This worked really well for us. The rooms were clean and tidy. The full size fridge/freezer was great. We found that the location was perfect. A short walk to great snorkeling spots, the wharf and eateries. A short drive to the supermarket.

Taloa Heights accommodation, was a perfect location for us, only a few minutes walk into Alofi town centre & cafes, small beach, sea tracks & wharf. Also only 10 minutes drive from the Airport and large supermarket. For a small Island/Atol, Niue packs a punch with amazing surprises down the many sea track walks, to small beaches, rock pools, caves and chasms. Fantastic snorkelling in the aquarium-like rock pools and chasms. For a great sea adventure in the water with dolphins & snorkelling (we missed the whales by a few days) I recommend Magical Niue Sea Adventures with Rami. We loved every minute of our time in Niue, except the mosquitos so remember to pack some repellent. I recommend booking a rental car before you arrive as they were in high demand upon arrival.

Picked up by Judy at the airport and felt welcome as soon as we arrived. We had two villas for family, one three bedrooms, the other a studio. We all ate in the larger one so didn't have to cook in ours. Perfectly located for touring around and close to the centre of Alofi. We were in a treetop bungalow and had perfect views of the ocean while sitting up in bed; even better from the balcony. Snorkelling gear, bikes available for use (which we used), laundry, pool, lovely well kept grounds, everything we needed for a relaxing Niuean experience.

Picked up from the airport by Judy who services the Taloa Heights Villa's and delivered to the beautiful self-contained Villa called The Pigsty a complete contrast to its cheeky name. Spacious, clean, open, fresh, comfortable, welcoming atmosphere with all the amenities required to provide the most awesome relaxing " this is my pad and i could quite easily live here permanently" feel about it. Relaxing on my own front veranda that ran along the front and to one side of my Villa enabled me to make the most of the amazing views of the ocean and the bay. The main village Alofi and its various cafe's, bars, restaurants and shops were all within walking distance as is the once a week market where one could purchase food and items of Niuean culture. There is easy access to hire a vehicle for exploring the rest of the island. The swimming pool situated within the centre area of the Villa's a positive delight to relax beside and in at the end of a days touring. Will definitely return to Taloa Heights and highly recommend these well maintained Villa's and appreciate the helpful and friendly service provided by the Nemaia family.

Taloa Heights is the place to go if you want to unwind/relax/chill out from the stress of modern life. Spent 10 days in Treetop studio one with excellent view of the ocean and walking to shops/wharf is a breeze, would recommend hire of rental car now that the main Supermarket has relocated out by the airport, grounds/pool always immaculate, nice to see evidence of new plantings to restore the growth/gardens. Clearly the owners take great pride in their complex, wouldn't be put off by a few cobwebs/dust/lack of room service etc, if you want hotel style room service go stay at Matvai, I believe in supporting the locals and I think Taloa goes over and above to make your stay as comfortable and less intrusive as possible. Be interesting to see how new Cafe by roadside turns out, have been watching it being built for close to two years now, when in Niue things happen in Niue time-just enjoy and chill like a local.

We returned to the beautiful shores of Niue after travelling there for the first time the previous year. We stayed at the Scenic Matavai in 2017 and thought we would try something different this time. We were in one of the treetop studios which, at first, came across as very small, so small in fact it would be difficult to swing a cat or a chicken! Once settled, we worked around the lack of space and enjoyed the location and the room. The room was not overly clean (the toilet was not flash) and the attitude towards us was a little stand offish...cordial but slightly cold. Despite the few setbacks, we would return and stay here again.
