We went there at the beginning and end of our 3 week trip to NC. We absolutely loved the place. Clean, well laid out, great friendly and helpful staff, very close to all resources. We can’t wait to go back. Oh and a special mention to Ludovic, awesome English speaker and funny, welcoming guy.

Our family of 4 stayed for 9 nights at Hotel Gondwana. We had connecting rooms, which was great for privacy as well as family times. Both rooms had a queen bed and single bed, as well as being well equipped with towels, options to make tea, coffee and hot chocolate. The hotel takes seriously the impact on the environment, only replacing towel when you leave wet ones on the floor. We had breakfast in their patio restaurant one morning and it was plentiful, but after we found our way around we went to the market, a 10min walk away, to buy fresh croissants and baguettes. The staff were really friendly and answered all our questions helpfully. They also took the time for our daughters to ask in French and not just switch to English. We hired a car for 2 nights and were able to park it underneath for an extra 1000XPF a night.
Our only negative was smelling the cigarette smoke through the windows from people smoking in the evenings in the outside areas - our rooms were right above.
Overall we would highly recommend this hotel for it's service and location.

Hotel Gondwana has updated rooms with everything an independent traveler might need and is in a great downtown location. My only complaint would be the room I got had windows looking onto the walkway over the courtyard, like a motel, but everything else was so good, I really can't complain. I took an Arc en Ciel airport shuttle to and from the hotel, walked to the market, the waterfront, the ferry area, and to the local museum. The bus station is a short walk away, and I was able to use the Taneo bus app to sort out my journeys to the cultural center, aquarium, Lemon Bay, and Ouen Toro lookout. Note the app is only in French, but at the Moselle bus station (gare routiere on the map), the bus times are updated live on digital signs. If you're looking for a resort, you will want to keep looking, but if you're looking for a central, comfortable, fairly priced hotel, this one has strong wifi, water refill stations, good climate control, and everything works. Downtown may not be as happening as the resort areas after dark, but there are two spots to eat essentially downstairs from the hotel, a Japanese spot and a French taco place as of this writing. There's a local fast food place across the street on the corner and it's surprisingly decent and open to 9 pm, which was a great benefit when I showed up after 8 pm from the airport. Next to that is La Guinguette, a fantastic cafe with great breakfast, lunch, and coffee. I did not try the hotel breakfast. The front desk staff was more than happy to speak English to me when they realized my French is limited. I would return to Hotel Gondwana if I were in Noumea again.

Very reasonably priced for the quality of the rooms (everything you need - comfy bed, nice shower, fridge microwave, easy access to filtered water, free wifi) - nothing too luxurious but a wonderful comfortable location to relax in when the sun gets a bit much!

The location is perfect for those who want to avoid the bustle of the tourist bays (although it's very easy to go there too) and explore another side of Noumea: some of the best restaurants in town, wonderful shops and bars.

Best of all was the service - incredibly friendly and helpful staff, multilingual and more than happy to pick up the phone and make enquiries or reservations if, like us, you don't have a SIM. No request was too small, and full of useful advice about the whole of Noumea. A big shout out to the breakfast staff who also made us smile every morning.

On top of that it's an eco friendly, arts friendly venue!

When we go back I think we'll definitely stay there again 😍😍😍

Located in the Latin quarter of Nouméa and very close to Port Moselle and the markets, the Gondwana is a fab little hotel focused on sustainability and waste reduction. Breakfast is served in the cutest outside patio where they grow native plants and Auguste the gardener can tell you all about it. Graziella welcomes you with the biggest smile. Breakfast is very generous. The staff makes you feel at home. Electric bikes are available to explore Nouméa.

Firstly the positives: It's centrally located, reasonably modern inside and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms have a contemporary design and for a little more you can get a balcony. We were able to store our luggage as we travelled to other islands. Unfortunately, cleanliness left a little to be desired. Rooms were on the face of it, quite clean. However, in terms of negatives, we did come upon some ants. In the first room we stayed, there were only a few in the bathroom - slightly off-putting but it is a tropical part of the world and it can happen. However, the second room we stayed in, which was the same room type, had a serious ant problem around the microwave and kettle - we're talking hundreds of them. Staff were quick enough to respond. They offered us a room change, but they only had a lower price room type available and weren't prepared to refund the difference, only offering free breakfast instead, despite the fact we were leaving so early the next morning we wouldn't be able to use it. Instead, we stayed in the same room and they cleaned the affected area. It was a disappointing blot on an otherwise pleasant stay. It's such a shame, as slightly more thorough housekeeping would have avoided the problem to begin with.

I recommend this very good 2 star hotel well located in the Latin Quarter of Noumea. It is away from the tourist hotels but near the Moselle markets and local cafes that are priced reasonably.
The hotel itself is tastefully decorated featuring local artists in rooms and a fine mural in the courtyard - see photo. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are no frills but very clean. In room products such as tea, coffee, soap etc were wonderfully waste free - see photo.
My only complaint is that I was woken one morning (out of four) before 5am by people talking loudly in the courtyard.

Great place to stay in the centre of Nouméa. Close to the markets, bakeries and fabulous chocolate shop! The rooms are simple, very clean and had everything we needed. Reception staff are friendly and helpful and cam speak English if needed. Breakfasts are yummy - order individual items to get the best value. The patio area is beautiful. Kids are specially catered for with small tables at breakfast, toys at reception and breakfast, and kid level handrails on stairs. Very welcoming place to stay.

Gondwana was terrific - from the warm welcome and patient assistance with my terrible French (which in practice meant putting anything remotely complicated into English so I could butcher their beautiful language with my replies) to the impeccable cleanliness and constant good cheer, they really go out of their way to give you a pleasant stay. The suite has a private balcony with a lovely little garden that looks over the neighbourhood and across the bay from the 6th floor. There’s a communal patio on the mezzanine level with a reasonably priced breakfast service and tables for chilling out or meeting other guests. The area is great, safe and quiet at night but with good dining options. It’s also close to the town centre and the port if you want a ramble. Gondwana is an economical option in a relatively expensive town that nevertheless hits all its marks. I’ll definitely stay here again.

I received a warm welcome before being given the key to my clean, contemporary room. The tropical breakfast, served with big smiles, certainly did not leave me hungry! Parking was secure with the same space allocated for the duration of stay. Easy walk to the waterfront. A couple of good restaurants within a block.
