Detailed Reviews
My wife and I had a great stay at Dreamers. It's in a beautiful location right by the water, with a deck where you can spend hours watching the movement of the clouds and the ebb and flow of the tide. Our room was clean and comfortable. The furnishings were quite old and there was no air conditioning, but the fan kept us cool enough for the most part. We appreciated the provision of WiFi via satellite (Starlink), with very fast download speeds. Richard was a friendly and very helpful host, giving us advice about where to go, providing free airport transfers, taking us to Vodafone to pick up SIM cards, and arranging a rental car for us at very short notice. The rest of the staff were wonderful too, and the food at both breakfast and dinner was excellent. We'd definitely stay here again!

I enjoyed 8 days at'Dreamers' in November 2019, on my Pacific adventure of a lifetime. Breakfasts and dinners on the veranda with its breathtaking view were wonderful. Richard and Beta are very accommodating hosts. Richard answered my many questions on Tarawa geography, history and culture, and invited me along on a food-shopping trip from one end of South Tarawa to the other, even indulging my request to stop and examine the geologically fascinating 'beachrock'! Unforgettable. Thank you Richard.

My experience at Dreamers Guest House was excellent once I arrived. Communication with Richard was consistent before the trip and he is very knowledgeable about the history of Kiribati. It was very interesting to hear his perspectives on the island.
The guesthouse is on a beautiful lot and is tucked away from the main street, yet it's still very central. The room came with a fan and kitchenette. The food was excellent and they were able to cater to dietary restrictions.
I did have a disappointing experience with Richard that is important to share. I had booked one night at the guesthouse and he confirmed the reservation. Weeks later, Richard reached out to tell me that other people requested the rooms for more than one night during the same timeframe and he was going to find me another place to stay. This was disconcerting considering the limited options for decent accommodation in South Tarawa and that he had fully confirmed my reservation weeks prior to receiving requests from others. Fortunately, I was traveling with some of the people who had requested the room for a longer period of time and I was able to stay in their room on the night that I had originally booked. The room was for two people but the person staying in the second room was alone and graciously offered her extra mattress.
Richard apologized when he saw me, but the situation could have been handled exponentially better. You'll probably be fine with a reservation here if nobody else requests the dates, but beware of the possibility that your reservation may be rescinded based on the travel schedule of others.

Dreamers' hosts are very welcoming and a great source for information on Kiribati (Richard's stories about the Tarawa of his youth are most interesting as is his information about Kiribati today). Located in the village of Ambo on South Tarawa, halfway between Bonriki and Betio means that everything between these places is less than a half-hour bus ride away. The small ocean-side lagoon, only metres from the guest rooms, is beautiful and well worth being next to for both sunrise and sunset. If you're planning your first trip to Kiribati, then this is the place to start.

+1
Superb guesthouse! Richard and his wife are delightful hosts who cater to all your needs. The spacious room includes a cooker, fridge, freezer, kettle, and sink.
The food is delicious; I had flavorful fish both nights for $15. Breakfast is included which consists of fruit, toast and coffee, tea or juice.
Car rental is available, so book in advance. Richard provides great tips for activities, and I highly recommend renting a car to visit Abatao for the day.
Though there's no air conditioning, the room has a ceiling fan, a standing fan, and a refreshing breeze through the windows, making it comfortable. There is no hot water, but it wasn’t missed in the hot weather.
The WiFi was excellent.
Thank you for my stay.

Dreamers was luxurious after staying in a traditional house for a week. It has electricity, running water (most of the time) and a glorious view from the terrace. Richard is a very interesting man. The only downside was that various groups had chosen the guest house as a location for their gatherings so on consecutive nights we had MSF, Department for Education and Unicef partying outside our rooms until fairly late.

I would highly recommend staying at Dreamers. Richard is an excellent host, offering free airport transfers and a wealth of insight and knowledge about Kiribati, it's recent and current history. He very kindly helped organise accommodation in North Tarawa for me, along with the transport there. I'd also recommend having dinner there, the two dinners I had were very tasty.

This is my spot when I wanted to get away from the crowd and noise. I usually come down to dreamers to rejuvenate. The cool breeze, pristine lagoon and silence of this beautiful place is magical. Not forgetting the lovely and kind owners Mr Richard and Mrs. Beta who ensure I have everything I need during my stay.

When I booked a stay with Richard and Beta I did not expect that I would end up staying in one of the best spots of the atoll with a great company. Staying at Dreamers was almost like staying at a house with old friends, with endless stories at night on the verandah and an unexpected christmas party. The place has one of the best views in Tarawa with ocean starting literally a metre away from the door and sound of waves in background for good sleep.
Richard and Beta are really committed to make it a special place. They also run an NGO aiming at promoting solar power and desalination systems in the country. If you are looking for an eco friendly place with a personal touch and a cause - this is the best place for you in the whole Kiribati.

Kiritbati isn't the most luxurious of destinations, but that means that the place and the people are all the more important. Coming from the city, Dreamers' location is like something out of a dream, not in the clicheed marketing sense, but because there is something almost dreamlike about the place - you look out across a lagoon to the crashing ocean beyond. Sitting on the veranda at night, looking at the stars, with singing from unknown voices drifting across the lagoon towards you, perhaps sharing some kava with some Fijian guests...is a unique and distinctive combination. Beta is an amazing host, and her cooking beats anything available in the restaurants hands down. The place has an intriguing mix of guests passing through. There's only one road on the island, so although Dreamers isn't in the big, dusty town, it's easy to get up and down the road by flagging a passing minibus. The room is basic, but perfectly fine. I strongly recommend staying at Dreamers - it's a calm, friendly and accommodating place on an island that certainly isn't hostile to visitors, but is rather busy getting on with life.
