I stayed here for 2 nights while we were on Tarawa. The staff was really nice and the restaurant on the main floor was pretty good. If you want a room with good AC this is the right place for you. They even had wall outlets that accommodated everything we needed to charge. It is also not from so interesting historical places that you should visit while you are on the island. If you are in need of transportation you can rent a car or a pair of scooters from the hotel. Have fun and enjoy the people they are very friendly.

I really enjoyed my time at the Boutique. I spent nearly a week there and found it overall quite good, and I’m sure among the top on Tarawa. What is the best hotel? A lot of personal taste comes into that. For me, the hotel staff was great and very helpful…Kari, Aronna, Soni, Etau and the rest. They really worked hard to accommodate requests, including lining up a driver on short notice for an all-day excursion. Internet was generally fine, but I think any shortcomings are a factor of the island and maybe not the hotel. It went in and out at times, but I was there for business and found the internet totally workable. The Boutique appears to be one of the newest hotels on the island. I think it opened in Sept 2014. The rooms, furniture, bathrooms, etc, considering what are likely different construction standards on Tarawa, look new and are quite nice. The AC, hot water, and TV are all fine, though the channels are limited if you care about such things. There is a small restaurant in the hotel and another right outside. The food is fine, though don’t expect big things on Tarawa. The setting of the hotel is a little stark. It’s in a building being developed into retail/mall, which is supposed to include at least one bar. On the other side is the sports field/stadium. Based on checking out other places (didn’t stay at them) the outdoor space and restaurant areas at Mary’s, or George’s over in Betio, are nicer, though the rooms especially at Mary’s are older and I hear street noise may be more of an issue at Mary’s. I also hear some rooms at Boutique can be a bit noisy at times but I didn’t see this or hear it from others who were there when I was.

Given the poor state of the main road now (late June 2015), location is a big factor for picking a hotel as it takes so much time for relatively short distances. The Boutique is in Bairiki, an hour or more from the airport and 20 min or so from Betio. I found this convenient as many of the people I was working with, government for example, are in Bairiki. Also, there are no taxis on the island, so rather than arranging a car each time, I liked walking around.

All considered for Tarawa, the Boutique is a great hotel.

I came to Tarawa to attend an event and had to stay 12 days due to infrequent flights from Majuro. It is my first visit to Kiribati, but I know many Gilbertese people in the Marshalls. The hotel is a little rough on the edges, with a noisy bar at night and rather nondescript but large rooms. My room, 118, is fine. I moved from 104 to 118 to avoid construction noise and the blazing afternoon sun. However, the best thing about the hotel is the very dedicated and helpful staff. They were there at the airport to greet me, and any questions or needs I had were quickly addressed. The restaurant is a bit gloomy in atmosphere, but the chefs are excellent. All my meals were very tasty. My room had no TV or phone, and I enjoyed the peacefulness. No hot water, either, but I am accustomed to Pacific Island life. They also have a laundry service. Also, the central location in Bairiki is good, near markets, bank, and Internet cafe (sometimes the hotel Internet did not work), and also close to the Catholic Church. Overall, the hotel is more than adequate, not sophisticated but very safe and welcoming, and reasonable nobly priced. Ted Stepp, Majuro, Marshall Islands

Apart from having to climb a number of stairs, the rooms are tiny but smart. For some reason there's an additional charge for the top floor, but no ocean view. The breakfast is non-existent: if you ask for toast then you'll receive a toasted piece of bread on a plate!

i arrived from Nadi in the afternoon and stayed at this hotel for one night. There are just a few hotels in Tarawa, and I selected Tarawa Boutique Hotel, because I supposed this hotel must be elegant from it's name and is located in Bairiki area where is the center of Tarawa. But I was so much disappointed. The hotel is not elegant. The room (No. 116) is simple and bath tub is not furnished, just a shower. In the toilet, there is no toilet paper holder, and yet no toilet paper itself. I went down to the front to take a toilet paper. I wonder if how they manage each room. The restaurant is also poor and I didn't take dinner at this restaurant. There is a super market next to the hotel, and I bought something to eat and took dinner in my room.
I took breakfast at this restaurant. In Bairiki area, there are the post office and some
government offices such as Ministry of Labour and Human Resources Development, Ministry of Internal Affairs and so on, but they are all small houses. The Causeway is just close from the hotel. I walked Causeway and came back from half way. Transfer between hotel and airport is free. Before I checked out, I already asked to go to Betio area, west end of Tarawa by hotel car through Causeway and then go to the airport with extra. There is a big map of Tarawa on the wall in front of the front desk, I wanted to buy the same one, but I couldn't. A front female staff has small area maps, I asked to copy them, but she can't make color copy, then I took them and asked to do so at the shop in front of the hotel.

stayed here for 12 days on a business trip - very convenient and the most ideal place to stay when on a business trip... rooms are spacious and very modern facilities. the best place at the end of a very long day with hot and cold shower facilities ... the balcony gives you opportunity to open the doors and let fresh air and the warm sunshine into the room... the staff are very helpful and they also provide rental cars as low as AUD$50 a day. A shopping Mall right next to you with the bank, telecommunications and market behind you..... better than any other place i have seen on Kiribati..

The Boutique Hotel is now closed for big works, and so the restaurant at ground floor. This hotel is situated in the centre of Bairiki, a quite noisy place until midnight, but also a place near of all the administrations and offices (and of one of the biggest markets).

I've stayed here for 4 nights and the staff really took care of me, offering lifts to the bar/ restaurants they recommended (and - from / to airport as well). The room was basic, but exactly what's really needed.

Now, where do I start?
Every experience of my stay was not good unfortunately.
Loud music nearby until 1.00am!
Mattresses very hard.
Pillows not comfortable.
Very noisy fridge. Had to switch it off during the night.
Didn't sleep much due to all of the above!
No hot water for the basin making shaving unpleasant.
Poor plumbing in the bathroom.
Toilet inside the shower!!! Why????
Room was unfinished building wise!
Sky tv not working.
Couldn't plug in my phone charger to the power points as they were very cheap and not suited to Australian 2 pin plugs.
Plenty of tea coffee and sugar but no hot water jug!!!
Glad to leave!!
Staff were friendly though.
Air conditioning worked ok except for a flashing light all night.
I would never stay there again!!!

Response from Tekeeua T, Owner at Tarawa Boutique Hotel
Responded 12 Dec 2015
Sir, Thank you very much for your critical comment about our hotel. We really appreciate and honor your comments despite your comments has greatly negative impact to our future guests. I tried to investigate from my management team weather you verbally reported the issues to our reception or not and I was told nothing was reported so far until you left and voiced all these issues via trip advisor. Much surprising was that before you checked in to our hotel, you were lodged in one local hotel and checked out to stay with us. At the end of the day you left positive comments to the said hotel but all but negative comments to our hotel. My point of view is why you never reported the issues to our reception on day one of your stay? The issues like noise from the bar, noise from the fridge, TV issue, light from the aircon, mattress, pillow, the absence of water kettle, power points issue ... etc can be fixed straight away or otherwise you can be taken to another room to satisfy you. These are simple issues which can be ADDRESSED on the day you report. It is very awkward you pretend ok but in fact you hide something and waited for your check out to voice these issues to the world. Our hotel was built by an Asian company and built to suit their style which toilet and shower fit in one room as water is needed during toilet time. However you might realize that the ceremic tile used there are very quick to dry which ensures the area is always and remain dry whilst hygienic is assured at all times This is indeed does not suit the western style but our many guests appreciate and fit them to it. On top of this, we have a plan to change some toilet plans to the western style but as these costs much to our struggling hotel (keep in mind tourism and occupancy rate in Kiribati is very poor) we will try our best to undertake these slowly. Sir, it is also surprising you did not comment on some positive points about our hotel. I wonder if you can compare our hotel with others in terms of the size of our room, the beauty and brand new of our furnitures, our location, the availability of our rain water for shower 24/7 and also the rates of our rooms. More surprisingly, you allowed yourself to check out from another hotel before you checked in with us for three night until the day of your flight. Why wouldn't you checked out on day two to other hotels after realizing our hotel did not suit you? Is this cause you could handle the claimed issues because they are just minor? Sir, note Kiribati hotels are not five stars hotels and our low rates worthed your money. We appreciate your comments and next time you need something in every particular hotel, please speak up to their reception for immediate attendance and action RATHER than waiting for your check out and reported something there after. Ko rabwa (Thank you) Management
