We stayed here for three nights and enjoyed it. Great location to the main square, San Francisco square, cafes and restaurants. The rooms were large with an upstairs sitting area, big bathrooms and comfortable beds. The staff were accommodating to our very early checkin that was unannounced and were happy to hold luggage whilst we went to Rurrenabaque. The breakfast is decent - selection of cereals, fresh fruit, bread and eggs.

We enjoyed our stay at Casa de Piedra. The location was great and the hotel quaint. But we would like to especially thank Jorge, one of the hotel staff, who provided us with exceptional advice and help. Jorge explained La Paz's cable car system to us and even loaned us his system pass card. He also made special arrangements for us to be picked up by our tour guide one day when a miner's protest closed the road in front of the hotel, even walking with us to make sure that we were safely in our guide's hands at the meeting place he arranged with the guide. Thanks Jorge for making our stay in LaPaz an exceptional experience!

Absolutely loved the hospitality here. We arrived after an overnight bus from Uyuni at about 6 am and there was someone there to check us in. WE then had the option of storing our bags or checking into our room early (check in had a fee). We opted to check in and shower and have the room so we could be comfortable for our day in La Paz. Guido checked us in an he was welcoming and friendly.

We spent the day out on a Death Road bike and came back to the room. We had nice hot water and good wifi connection.

Our next day we checked out (they have later check out times, which is nice) and then were able to store our bags and relax in the lounge area until our late evening flight out. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. Absolutely loved the place.

Our taxi pulled up alongside shuttered doors at 6am in the deserted street.
Suddenly the doors swung open, and without a word a man appeared, grabbed our two suitcases in each hand and proceeded upstairs to the reception. 5 minutes later we were getting comfortable in our room on the third floor. The wonderful service continued during out 4 day stay. When we complained about the altitude the same man offered us oxygen which he allowed us to take to our room. Our bus to Copacabana was leaving at 6.30am, so he offered us a packed breakfast for the road.
Our room was quite large with a big wardrobe, a fridge and 2 double beds. We were situated on the third floor. The hotel has no elevator and I found the stairs difficult, although the oxygen certainly helped.
The location is not in the main tourist area, but if you want to experience authentic Bolivia, it's all happening just around the corner, a few minutes walk. Alternatively, it's 10-15 minutes walk to Sagarnaga Street, which is the main tourist area where you will find lots of hotels, hostels, cafes, restos, handcraft shops and travel agents.

Our room was quaint if somewhat impractical, the staff were friendly and efficient, all in all, and the location was convenient, if not ideal. One can indeed get a feeling of claustrophobia in this type of hotel (as mentioned in other reviews) but I suppose this is inevitable in this kind of establishment and in this kind of city. Beware of La Paz - one of our guides later told us that all tourists end up getting sick one way or another when they spend time there...

My wife and I stayed here for several days on two occasions in June. Avelino was an excellent and most helpful host. The property is decorated in exquisite taste, immaculately clean, quiet and features an excellent restaurant as well. The location is convenient to everything. We look forward to returning.

The pictures on the hotel website make this place look cute and rustic, which is exactly what I wanted. And while it does live up to that image, to a certain extent, there are other factors that count against it. First, because of its wood and stone construction (its from the colonial period) every little creak and groan carries throughout the whole building. I could kind of deal with this, but they blare 80s soft rock in the restaurant nonstop from morning to night and that too carries to every room. So any charm the place might of had soon disappears in a barrage of unwanted big hair soundtrack. Its clean, I'll give it that, but the fittings are kind of hinky such that when you sit on the toilet the seat swivels beneath you most disconcertingly. The food is awful and overpriced. I wouldn't say don't stay here, but I would say if you like peace and quiet in your hotel then look elsewhere. It is conveniently located in the historical centre, but so are several other hotels.

We had the most amazing stay in the hotel, I don't usually bother leaving a review but this hotel was so great that I am takin the time to write one. The staff were so friendly and helpful and spoke fluent English. The rooms were spacious and modernly decorated with beautiful furniture and lots of character. The hotel is 3 min walk from San Francisco plaza. Wifi worked amazingly and cable flat screen tv with movie channels. The breakfast included was delicious, again with great service and the restaurant downstairs did amazing food and also room service as we were exhausted from travelling. I can't complain about a thing, all of the little things the staff did made a real difference (complimentary water on arrival, laundry service, help with booking flights and things to do in la paz). It was honestly a great stay and great value for what we paid, I recommend to stay here.... :)))))

This hotel is beautiful! Great location, old style decor. We stayed in one of the suites and it was lovely nice and big. The best thing though was the staff. We arrived very early 6am from the night bus from Uyuni very tired and in need of showers. At 7am we were able to have our room! Also we were leaving early the following morning and they gave us a breakfast box to take with us.

This is not a hotel in the usual way, this is a living museum. The owner have renovated and revitalised this old building with much love and care into a museum to live in. With old and antique furniture many bits and bobs they created a place resembling an age long gone by. So what does this mean for the potential guest?

The rooms are unique but as all parts consist of original (looking) materials windows and doors are not soundproof. If your room has a window you will have the noise of the busy street in front of the hotel or if your room does not have a window the noise from the atrium or the reception will affect your sleep. Many rooms in contrary to the booking.com reference “room with a view” do not have windows at all! The only new age amenities are small TVs, a fridge and of course bathrooms. The latter have been fitted into existing rooms thus they are microscopic in size.

If you like to spend your time in a really exceptional and original place, accepting the loss in comfort for a night or two then this will be the best choice. If you are more the guy asking for standardized hotel room layout you may not become happy here.

One word to the staff: They all are very, very helpful speak English, French and even German fluently (maybe some other languages as well) and are trying hard to let you feel at home.

Last but not least, the location is – for sightseeing purposes – the very best in town!
