We were scheduled to stay in the Sura Hagia Sophia hotel at the start of a three week tour of Turkey so we booked a few extra days here before the tour started and we are glad we did. We also stayed here at the end of the tour.

You can't beat the location which is on a side street literally minutes away from the main attractions of the Sultanhamet including Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Hippodrome, Topkapi Palace and the Istanbul Archaeological Museum. While the Sultanhamet is pretty crowded in places, it is also very safe for tourists.

The rooms we had were on the second floor which was convenient as we could avoid the tiny elevators. The rooms themselves are nice, but not overly luxurious. There is a fridge and the wifi is good.

The breakfast buffet which is included is one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of partaking in. My photos will show the great variety of items available. The Galeyan restaurant which has a nice sidewalk cafe has very good Turkish food and a great place to introduce yourself to Turkish cuisine.

The Harmony Spa on site is also a great spot to treat yourself to a Turkish bath.

Lastly, when we required a PCR Covid test before returning to Canada the hotel provided the service on site for a much lower price than what we paid in Canada and the United States.

Given the fact the Turkish lira has fallen drastically against the USD the cost of a room is really very little for a hotel of this calibre.

I have no hesitation in recommending this place, especially if it's your first time in Turkey.

This hotel is part of the Sura Hotels group. The hotel location is simply excellent, there is a tram station 30 seconds away, plenty of restaurants to choose from, late night entertainment within walking distance, including whirling dervish cafes and shows. Located within walking distances from some of the major landmarks and historical locations in Istanbul including Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Basillica Cistern, Hurrem Sultan Hammam, Sokullu Mehmet Pasha Mosque, Burial Place of Sultan Abdul Hamid II, Grand Bazaar and much more. There are very few 5* Hotels in Sultanahmet and so this hotel is quite busy as it has an outdoor pool, Spa, Gardens and excellent breakfast buffet.

The hotel is excellent for families with children and the staff will go out of their way to assist you in any way possible. We used the Hotel concierge to book our excursions and found some of the costs were much cheaper than using a tour company so I would recommend speaking to them about any sahaba tours or visits to the Asia side. They also helped book some evenings out for us at Nusr Et and other 5* restaurant visits.

The rooms are small and are not carpeted. You do not get branded toiletries in the bathrooms as you normally would in 5* hotels and the beds aren't the most comfortable I have slept on in terms of 5* hotels. The sister hotel across the road, Sura Design has better beds, carpeted rooms and balconies, the only difference is that the Design hotel is a 4* (presumably because they don't have a pool and spa) however, all of the facilities from Sura Hagia are open to the residents of the Design hotel. I would recommend this hotel for the location and facilities as opposed to a 5* living experience as the rooms are not 5* equivalent. The family rooms with extra living room are worth the extra money so if you are travelling with a family I would recommend to book this option. I would stay again!

Location was absolutely fabolous. Just minutes walk from Hagia Sofia blue mosque bazaar etc. Tram public transport just 20 meters or so. All restaurants and cafes and shops around.
This has made my 1st visit to Istanbul really nice.

Breakfast was nice, selection of coffee tea, cheese, olives, home made jam and preserve, fruit, breads, highlight is the desserts the sweets bee polen with clotted cream, baklava, cheese cakes, so many cakes, changes daily, fantastic. We also had the breakfast in garden outside really nice👍

Spa was really nice, sauna, steam room with nice aroma therapy, for extra the have hammam Turkish bath, massage etc

There is swimming pool and we can see Haga Sofia from the pool.

Receptions was helpfull, customer service also nice, attentive. Offered us complimentary dinner on our last night, we stayed 12 nights, have the option to move to other 5 stars hotel but chose to stay here because location is unbeatable.

Room is functional, some has view of Hagia Sofia. Bed & pillow comfortable, bathroom adequate, room wise I woild not give it 5 stars for standard room, perhaps 3, as during our stay in April spring which sometimes quite hot, there was no air conditioner available, only heating which was useful when it did get cold. We open the windows every night, that helps. But seriously we had never been to a 5 stars hotel withno aircondition, it is a brand new experience.

There is a travel agent dest on the lobby, we booked a few tours and it was worth it, also PCR test through them was convenient.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay very much in this beautiful city, really wonderful.

The hotel is located in a side-street with a bunch of restaurants and little cafe's present.

The hotel is classified as a “5 star” hotel but that’s far from the truth. I would rate it 3 stars MAX. It fails to have any luxury, service, cleanliness, perfectsness and all things else to be a real 5 star hotel.

We stayed in a 3-bedroom room. Roomsize is medium, bathroom is small! There is a shower (no bathtub). They do not have standard amenities like toothbrush, toothpaste or comb available in the bathroom so bring your own.
What they do have is shampoo, conditioner, lotion, sewing kit, shoe shiner and a little kit with cotton pads.

Bottled water, Tea and Coffee is complimentary in the room, they also have a little fridge in the room.

The wifi is EXTREMELY bad, you have no to very minimum connection that comes and goes every second.

Rooms are clean, they get cleaned everyday (in our case in the late afternoon around 3ish) but the sheets do not get changed every day! They get tidied up instead.

Rooms are NOT noise proof. You can hear your upstairs neighbours walking, showering, dropping things on the floor etc.

Last but not least we did not feel welcomed by the staff, when you come in and out there are lots of staff standing there but not one looked our way or greeted us or wished us a good day. I've only met 1 staff member that was kind and came up to me and asked me if she could help me with anything, I wish i remembered her name to thank her in this post.

I would ONLY recommend this hotel for the LOCATION as it’s very close to the Hagia Sophia & Sultan Ahmet Mosque BUT I think there are far more better options available in Istanbul so if you really want to stay in a 5 star hotel this one is absolutely not it.

The best and maybe only positive thing about this hotel is its location. Other than that, it has almost nothing of a 5-star hotel.
First, if you won't buy an extra service (Airport Taxi, Hammam, tours .. etc.), you'll be treated most coldly ever. But take into account that extras are ridiculously more expensive if bought at the hotel (60€ for an airport transfer, while with Booking.com you can get a taxi for 20€, the hammam is more expensive than real authentic and historic hammams in the same area.. etc.). But as said, unless you buy something, the personnel behaves mostly unprofessionally with you. The worst was a Guest Relations Officer. Very cold, unmannered, indifferent to people standing at the reception.
Rooms are fine but small. Unless you travel with your partner, avoid double rooms. You'll get 0 privacy while in the bathroom. Don't fall for the photos posted online as most rooms have a view on a garbage street.
I almost missed my PCR test appointment as I was told to wait at the reception but nobody came to inform me that the testing started in a very remote room.
Breakfast is a buffet of heavily processed products. Nothing tastes fresh. Skip eggs too as they are fried in advance and cold by the time you'll order them.

The room was without soundproof, heard all noises.
The housekeeping used to come at 9.30 in the morning.
We had to leave earlier and we didn’t receive any understanding from the hotel. In addition, they asked us to contact booking knowing that it was just on their side.
Honestly, we were expecting more from a 5 star hotel, as they claim to be because in reality the things are quite different.

We do value feedback from our customers as it is the only way we can truly improve our offering. We update our sound insulation works in our rooms periodically in the light of technological developments also due to the pandemic period the world is going through, the use of minibars in hotels has been restricted considering the health of individuals but we provide you to reach the room service menu with the QR code in the room. In consequence of your made non-refundable reservation we were not able to help you about your early check-out. Stayed for 7 nights with my pregnant wife and 10 month old - arrived at the hotel just before midnight and was welcomed warmly by hotel reception. Checked in and was given a room on the 4th floor which turned out to smell like sewage in a room which was very small and extremely hot. Air conditioning wasn't working in any of the hotel rooms and so was told to "leave the window open" which didn't really help the situation. We ended up moving to another room on the 3rd floor which wasn't a massive improvement. Also, this room was on a weird floor where the elevator (lift) didn't actually go to the lobby, it either stopped on the 1st floor or basement which then required me everytime I wanted to leave or get to my room to carry the buggy up or down these stairs. We spoke to guest relations who pretty much said that because we booked our stay at the hotel through a travel agent they can't change our room without us having to pay an additional fee as they give priority to guests who book through bookings.com (they even keep a list and circle the guests who have booked through here) as they are more worried about getting bad reviews. I am not entirely sure who rates the hotels in Turkey but I for sure would most definelty not rate this as a 5 star hotel and I would give it 3 star max. The rooms are all tiny, no air conditioning, poor bathroom facilitied amd a clear preference to guests who book through bookings.com

Breakfast did not have a huge variety and was pretty poor on most days. On one of the mornings it seemed like they had run-out of food and literally had anything to serve (see photos attached).

The 2 star rating I gave it is due to the hotels great location close to all the main attractions by walking distance (ignoring the fact it is on a road full of restaurants where the workers don't get tired asking you repeatedly to eat there everytime you walk past). I would also like to thank Cenan and Maksat who the most friendly and helpful workers at the hotel.

We travel a lot as a family and have stayed at a lot of hotels. We have also stayed a lot in Turkey. By far this place was amazing. The staff is as incredible. They were more than incredible. From the moment you got to the hotel they made you feel welcomed and it was clear that they really cared. It wasn’t a fake carrying. The staff was very helpful and always friendly and helpful. I was simply blown away at how nice everyone was. The house staff always said hello and were very nice. The breakfast was great, but the staff working the breakfast area was truly above the top. At one point I wanted something and it was clear that the person did not understand me, but rather than let it go that person got someone to find me and see what I wanted. My complements to the people that worked the breakfast area. A special thanks and complement to the concierge, Muhamed. As soon as we made the reservations he contacted me on WhatsApp and made sure I was taken care of. Immediately I felt like I a friend in Istanbul that was there to help and make everything work. At one point we went out for a boat ride on our own only to discover that it was closed due to Covid. I contacted him and he sent the van to pick us up and took us on a sighting seeing trip. Truly amazing staff. They were extra amazing in that we were there during covid and we felt a 100% secure that they were taking care of everything to protect us. In short truly amazing staff and beautiful hotel at the heart of it all. A must stay.

My wife and I stayed at the Sura Hagia Sophia for 4 nights. The hotel staff are very welcoming and extremely friendly. The check in experience was straight forward and our room was nice and clean as well as being spacious.
The breakfast is buffet style but everything was served by staff rather than helping yourself. This was due to Covid protocol. The breakfast selection is incredible and you will not be disappointed with the quality of the food. The hotel also served complimentary snacks in the afternoon. The cleaners worked tirelessly to ensure hygiene was maintained throughout the hotel.
The location of the hotel is fantastic. The magnificent Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque are a 2/3 minute walk away and the Topkapi Palace is about 6/7 minutes away. There is also the Sultanahmet tram stop a stone throw away from the hotel. This allows easy access to the Grand Bazaar (which is about a 15 minute walk away) and the ferry stations (Eminonu and Sirkeci) which allow access to the Asian side of Istanbul.
The hotel also has an outdoor swimming pool, although it was too cold to swim in at this time of the year. There is also a complimentary sauna and steam room available.
All in all I definitely recommend this hotel and will defintstay gereagain if ever getter chance to visit Istanbul again.
