The Pera Palace Hotel captivates guests with its historic elegance and prime Istanbul location, close to many attractions. While the hotel's cleanliness and luxurious amenities, including a spa and live music, are often highlighted, some visitors have pointed out shortcomings in Wi-Fi and afternoon tea.
The service at Pera Palace has received mixed reviews, with instances of exceptional concierge service overshadowed by complaints of inefficiency. Furthermore, the ambiance is appreciated for its charm, despite some noise disturbances, and opinions on value for money are divided.

Wanted to stay here given its historical significance in this city as a hotel and some of its storied guests, and it didn't disappoint. I had a room on the 4th floor with a balcony and a lovely view of the Golden Horn (thanks to the receptionist who 'upgraded' my room when I asked for such a room). The elegance of the hotel sets it apart, particularly things like the amazingly old elevator (not in routine use but you can ask to ride it) and the beautiful setting of the Orent bar and the Library. The lobby is oddly small and unimpressive (for such a grand hotel) and note that the rooms (given their age) are not quote modern 5 star hotel standard - though still very nice. Only gave 4 stars overall as I felt the service level was not up to scratch. In the Orient bar, you can take a while to attract attention (and once I had to go up to the bar itself to be served). Another example was one morning at breakfast where I did not interact with any member of staff at any point! (I seated myself and no one approached me at any point, whether to clear finished plates, ask if I wanted tea/coffee, ask if I wanted to order anything from the egg menu, etc). This service level needs to be improved if they want to be maintain luxury hotel status.

We came with my mother for a wedding at this Pension, and spent three nights there. We stayed in room 212, where we enjoyed our nights; the bed was comfortable, a large TV was at our disposal, sumptuous decoration and competent cleaning staff regularly spent in our room when we were away. The Pension gets dez restaurants and a pastry shop. We tested the restaurant for two dinners, and we are very excited about it; the food was very good, and the chef put his to cook our dishes. We thank Ogun Turkoglu for welcoming us both times with great friendliness and professionalism. As for the wedding, the Pension provided us with a good organization; there were enough staff for each position, each coordinated. We recommend this Pension.

We loved our stay here, the staff were very professional. The room was clean and we loved our little balcony. The bathroom shower/bathtub combination was a bit too cramped and I was nervous taking a shower, feeling that I might fall when getting out of the tub. We enjoyed the room amenities and the pool.
I had a Turkisth bath and staff kindly allowed my 11-year old nephew to be close by. Ramadan, the spa receptionist was quite helpful with treatment advice.
I found the high tea experience dissapointing. Very! There were lots of cakes and goodies but the tea itself was woefully lacking. Not served in teapots and no choice of tea type given. When I insisted that I wanted EarlGrey tea the waiter told me it was not possible. Of course it was possible but I had to really strongly demand it. The live piano playing was lovely but the hotel really should improve this service. It’s hugely popular so I guess they think it’s great, but it’s not as good as tea parties I give at my home, so don’t fret if you cannot get a booking for it.
The restuarant offerings were not great.
Breakfast however was oustanding! It should not be missed. Almost anything you would want for b/fast is available and lots of fresh local produce.
The hotel’s close proximity to the main shopping street wasvery handy.

Disappointing experience on every level. We booked the Pera Palace because we wanted to enjoy the historical aspects of Istanbul. When you walk in, the lobby and lounge are genuinely beautiful, but that's where it ends. Apart from the Concierge team (we spoke with several and they were excellent) the standard of service is appalling. At the bar we waited close to 30 minutes for anyone to take our order (in the end my husband had to go and ask the manager to take it). Breakfast is completely chaotic and unfriendly; one staff member twirling her hair over the food, significant wait for coffee, cutlery, salt and pepper etc. The host to the lounge for afternoon tea had her fingers in her mouth biting her nails continuously, completely unhygienic and totally put me off booking the tea experience. We specifically requested a quiet room at the time of booking but were put in room 620 (avoid this like the plague at the weekend) which was directly opposite a noisy bar where the music went on until the early hours. Our bathroom had a rickety drain in the middle of the shower which seemed unsafe. The decor was tired, bleak and depressing. Lights worked intermittently (no idea why sometimes they came on and other times they didn't.) Amenities were sparse - the shower cap was child sized, no shower gel in the shower. The worst was, when we checked out the gentleman at reception asked how our stay was. I started to give honest feedback in the hope that they'd make a note of how noisy the room was if anyone in future makes a request for a quiet room. When I started to say we were placed in a room next to the bar he interrupted to say 'actually, that's the type of room you booked'. I said 'what, a noisy one? My booking specifically asked for a quiet room, are you saying you don't have any quiet king sized rooms in the hotel?' He then said 'well you should've called and told me' - I said 'we didn't get in until after midnight, we'd already unpacked, and we'd heard you tell someone else the hotel was fully booked. What were you going to do at that time of night in a fully booked hotel?' He gave no apology or said 'we'll note that this room is loud', just acted as if I was outrageous for mentioning it. If you don't want to know how our stay was, don't ask! We paid over £700 for two nights stay, and I wish we'd booked Soho House a few doors down instead, which was much less expensive and significantly better. This hotel is trading on it's historic name, but the service and attitude seriously lets it down. You can put up with slightly tired interiors in an historic hotel, as long as you feel warmly welcomed and taken care of. We just felt taken advantage of here.

The incessant traffic noise was absolutely unbearable, whether it was morning, afternoon, or night. It was impossible to find any peace, and we found ourselves relying heavily on earplugs just to catch a few hours of restless sleep. Our balcony view was equally disheartening, as it overlooked a dusty construction site. The mattresses and sheets in our room were stained and smelled musty, adding to our discomfort and making it difficult to relax.
The shower room was another major issue. Every time we used it, water leaked profusely, creating a sizable pond on the bathroom floor. This made it hazardous to move around and added to the overall feeling of neglect and poor maintenance. Despite our persistent and numerous requests to change rooms, the staff assured us they would follow up, yet no one ever did. Each time we inquired at the front desk, we were met with empty promises and insincere apologies.
Our frustration grew with each passing day as we realized we were stuck in these dismal conditions for the entirety of our stay. The lack of response from the staff and the poor state of the room made the experience incredibly disappointing and stressful. It felt as though we were completely disregarded as guests, and the overall experience left us with a deep sense of dissatisfaction and regret for choosing this completely outdated accommodation.

The hotel is historic and is obviously majestic and beautiful... But it should be a 5 star hotel and not a museum... The reception is small and slow, the concierge is absolutely nowhere to be found, the service at their pastry shop or in their lounge it is exasperatingly slow (over 1 hour for a tea) and in any case served with missing parts of the service. The old historic lift is not working and now you have to use 2 very small and slow lifts, one of which is out of order... If you want to take the stairs, you find a barrier that prevents passage (reserved for guests) but is completely closed. Our room is physically pharaonic but, despite putting the air on maximum we were unable to heat it above 22 degrees and I assure you that it is cold in your pajamas. The bathroom does not have a bidet. The pompous but uncomfortable models. The bed with very uncomfortable mattress. When we returned from a party just before 2am, we found the doors locked. The doorman opened the door for us but there was no one at work and everything around was full of washing machines abandoned at that time... All obviously paid for very handsomely... So I don't recommend it at all other than paying us a visit from the external.

Everything was outstanding at the Pera Palace! First of all, this place is legendary, you can feel the history within its walls. They know the meaning of the word hospitality. I really appreciated the fact that seeing there was queue to take the modern lift from the lobby, the doorman showed us the other way to the old lift, the 2nd in Europe, the one Agatha Christie went on, and which is now usally unused. The room was neat and charming, everything was perfect inside and the only downside would be the view to the decrepituded building on the opposite side of the road. We did not dine at Agatha's Restaurant, but its breakfast buffet was excellent. And the Orient Bar is just like I imagined it.

It is a very beautiful hotel. The rooms we had were very comfortable with great bathroom. The staff at reception and at breakfast are first class. We needed an iron before going to a wedding. It was brought to our room within minutes. Now some details: 1. Breakfast rooms are fine, if needlessly drafty with aircon turned on when there is no need. Outside temperature under 20c. 2. Breakfast choices fine, however remember there is no pork hence no bacon, thank goodness. 3. The spectacular lounge and library are hard to enjoy. There is almost always an event taking place. For example every afternoon there is “afternoon tea” for which there is a charge. There is almost no seating in the common parts for guests. 4. The Orient Bar is equally attractive although service is a bit haphazard, yet the drinks are good quality and nicely served. 5. The Patisserie is most attractive with great cakes and good choice of teas. 6. Cleanliness first class. 7. We didn’t try the beautiful dining room for a meal because the choices on offer were disappointing. It has the same kitchen as in the downstairs Agatha Restaurant. A suggestion: it would be appreciated if they offered also the choice of a la carte breakfast with waiter service. This class of hotel deserves it.

Pera Palace is a classic grand historical hotel and if you bear in mind that the hotel was built in the 1800s you will therefore forgive it sometimes peeling on the edges. It cannot be compared to a new blank canvas modern luxury hotel which Istanbul has many to choose from. This hotel has tons of character and true history from famous guests that stayed before and unique architecture features and proportions for example beautiful high ceiling rooms, coving and endless velvet curtains that are simply unique. I stayed in a classic room which had beautiful views, a lovely balcony. Despite the room being a normal layout with a simple shower, which was old but well maintained, I have enjoyed the visit very much. The location is fantastic, especially at night time when you can step out to the street which has many restaurants and shops with a true carnival feel. The gym was decent and suitable for all my needs. It was only missing a roller and a mat. The breakfast was okay but in today's standards was not amazing. It felt a bit too communal dining room rather than a unique dining experience which you would expect judging the rest of the property and its ambiance. The lobby and its various seating corners are beautiful and a great sport for meeting and for coffee breaks in between shopping. The staff were always helpful and in general the stay provided an authentic Istanbul feedback.

On the tail end of our 15 day visit to Türkiye, we wanted to give ourselves a treat by staying at the iconic, Pera Palace Hotel.
From the moment we stepped through the door of this hotel, we were treated with the utmost respect and care.
After receiving our rooms key, their gracious Guest Services Manager asked if we wanted to go to our rooms via the original elevator or the regular one. It took me by surprise because she was so matter of fact about her question. I didn’t hesitate to say, “ the original elevator, please!”
The original wooden elevator was the first in Türkiye and the second in Europe. The ride was special because it is not available for use by just anyone.
Our corner room on the 3rd floor was one of the most beautiful and spacious we stayed in during our trip, with early 20th Century touches, a deep footed tub and relaxing marble shower, two balconies, wood floors, and an extremely comfortable king sized bed!
Their patio restaurant has an amazing view of the sunset, a great menu, and excellent service.
Their High Tea has a Michelin Star, an example of their commitment to the highest quality experience.
They arranged a large van for our trip to the airport in 25 minutes and our entire experience will bring us back in a couple of years for a longer stay. Don’t miss this historic treasure.
