Caravelle Saigon has gained renown for being at the heart of everything important in this great city since its opening on Christmas Eve 1959. Located in the very heart of the city center, the luxry hotel is a short walk to iconic landmarks and locations, such as the Opera House, Notre Dame Cathedral, historic Dong Khoi Street, Nguyen Hue walking street and the legendary Ben Thanh Market. Modern shopping is just around the corner at Vincom Center and at the nearby Saigon Center. While much of what lies at the heart of Caravelle Saigon is historic, its rooms are modern and luxurious, making it the ideal place to make your own history in one of the most enchanting cities in the world

Caravelle Saigon is celebrated for its prime location in District 1, bringing guests close to key attractions and shopping areas. The hotel's elegant atmosphere, complete with live music and cultural decor, is frequently lauded, although a few guests find the music intrusive. Accommodations are generally appreciated for their modern amenities and cleanliness, but noise and maintenance issues have been noted. The hotel's service receives mixed reviews, with most guests encountering professionalism and attentiveness, yet some report service lapses. Opinions on value differ, as praise for reasonable rates contrasts with concerns over hidden costs.

Located in district 1 next to the opera house really is a top location in which to be based
Rooms are tastefully appointed with fabulous smelling shampoos conditioners and body lotions . Huge showers ironing board and big mugs if you want to make your own drinks which I always do
I was on 16th floor with a view of the opera house (well roof of)
The swimming pool is on 7th floor and much bigger than I would of expected for a city centre
Very good choice at breakfast but it does get very busy at certain times
Several restaurants to choose from if you do want to eat at the hotel but we only every ate at the one on the ground floor
There is a roof top bar we popped in early one evening but that did seem to lack the ambiance of the rest of the hotel so we opted for other roof top bars during our stay

I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels, but none have ever felt as much like home as the Caravelle in Saigon. In fact, I moved in during Covid, and I love it so much that… I still haven’t moved out! That should tell you everything you need to know.

Location, Location, Location
You can’t beat this location. Right in the heart of District 1, it’s a super easy walk to all the major sights—the Opera House, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Ben Thanh Market, Nguyen Hue Walking Street, and more. Whether you’re here to explore, shop, eat, or just take in the city’s energy, Caravelle puts you right in the middle of it all.

The Best Hotel Gym in Saigon
I take fitness seriously, and let me tell you—Caravelle’s gym is the best you’ll find in any hotel in the city. It’s big, clean, and packed with high-end equipment, way beyond what most hotels offer. If working out is part of your routine, you’ll love it here.

And then there’s the pool, which is always spotless, thanks to Mr. Tung, who has been taking care of it for years. He not only keeps the pool in top shape but also makes sure guests are happy. A true gem of the hotel.

Service That’s Next Level
The staff here is fantastic—friendly, professional, and always ready to help. They know your name, they remember what you like, and they go out of their way to make sure you have the best experience. I wish I could list every person who makes my stay great, but honestly, it’s every single one of them. That’s rare.

Food Just Got Even Better
With a new chef in charge, the dining has gone up another notch. The food was always good, but now it’s next level. Whether you’re grabbing a quick meal or sitting down for something more refined, you’ll notice the difference.

The Signature Lounge – Totally Worth It
If you’re thinking about upgrading to the Signature Lounge package, do it. You’ll get:
✅ A healthy and delicious breakfast (with one of the best city views you’ll find)
✅ Afternoon tea with amazing pastries and snacks
✅ Free-flow cocktails in the evening with enough food to be a light dinner

Bonus tip: If you have breakfast in the Signature Lounge, you’ll notice something special—every morning, newlyweds come up here to take their bridal photos. It’s a cool little tradition and a fun thing to watch while you sip your coffee.

A Hotel With History
The Caravelle just celebrated its 65th anniversary, and this place has some serious history. If you’re into that kind of thing, take a walk up to the Saigon Saigon Rooftop Bar. This is where the famous "Fall of Saigon" photo was taken in 1975—a true piece of history. Even if you’re not a history buff, the views, the drinks, and the atmosphere up there are top-notch.

Final Thoughts – Just Book It!
One last thing… almost everyone who stays here comes back. And after all these years, I totally get why. If you want a hotel with history, luxury, great service, and the best location in Saigon, Caravelle is the place to be.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly, highly recommend!

What an excellent stay in Caravelle Saigon!

As a regular guests, my husband and I were greeted by name. The service was the most exceptional during entire stay! We had privacy and yet we were totally attended to. Dong & Trang were so welcoming when we checked in.

Dong, receptionist manager, was so exceptional to help us anytime we needed anything even when it was late night.
Trang & Phuong were so friendly to welcome us when we checked in.
Tung & Nhung from concierge were very helpful and entertaining. They had great recommendations for local eateries off the beaten path. They always greeted us with a friendly smile.

Cuong, the bartender at the pool, along with Tung and Anh, greeted us almost every day during my swim and workout in the fitness/pool section. They always made sure we enjoyed the services, making it feel like our therapy time in this area. I went to the sauna first thing in the morning to enjoy the relaxing music and meditation time.

Loan manager at Saigon bar was so joyful anytime we enjoyed at the bar.

The housekeeping team were exceptional. Every time I hit the button for the room to be made up, the room was always meticulously cleaned within 30-40 minutes. We never had our quiet time interrupted by housekeeping. It seemed they were always on standby and ready.

Will definitely stay here again next time we visit! We love the Caravelle and my husband (who has traveled all around the world, says the Caravelle is his favorite hotel in the world! Cảm ơn Caravelle! See you next time.

Great location, right in the centre of District so easy to walk to many sights within 10-15 minutes.

Head chef, Justin, was helpful in preparing some vegan dishes (they don’t provide many vegetarian or vegan options otherwise) and the food his team prepared was generally very good.

Vu, the breakfast supervisor, did a great job in managing our various requests and was very pleasant even with the breakfast room was overly crowded (the room is too small for the guests staying at the hotel and felt like eating in a cateen). He’s an asset to the hotel.

The Signature Lounge is very stylish with its decor and furniture - in contrast to the Rooftop bar which is rather drab. The views of the city are spectacular. There is little atmosphere in part because there is no background music. They enforce a strict dress code which for men means no shorts - given the heat of Saigon it means you have to change; some guests were allowed to break the rules, others were told to change.

The most disappointing part of the stay was our room. The first room - a Signature Studio - had a very bad damp smell coming from the thick carpets; it was obvious that the housekeeping team had sprayed air freshener on the carpet. The room didn’t come with a bath either - again a surprise as a room or this category in a five star hotel would provide this. It was not flagged to us before we came when we asked for a number of things to help our disabled wok (including a bath mat). The Front Officer Manager was not helpful at trying to find a solution. We wasted four hours trying to find a new room; he upgraded us to an executive suite with no view. In all rooms be aware that you will hear a lot of noise from the street or the rooftop bar.

Oh, and if you book with Expedia for 3 people you have to pay an extra bed charge per day, which is ridiculous. And they didn’t honour the Expedia Gold member commitment to have a late check out; we were told and reminded to leave at midday even though our flight was at midnight. They had availability - I checked the website - and were inflexible and not accommodating. The ground floor has very limited waiting area, unlike any other five star hotels we’ve stayed at.

We stayed in five hotels during our three week stay in Vietnam and this was our worse experience; it all felt rather inflexible and transactional.

Dear DCLancefield, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback regarding your recent stay with us. I sincerely apologize for the experience you encountered during your time at our hotel, as it is certainly not reflective of the high standards we aim to uphold. We are pleased to hear that you appreciated our central location and found it convenient for sightseeing. It's wonderful that our Executive Chef, Mr. Justin, was able to assist with preparing vegan dishes and that you enjoyed the quality of food his team provided. We will make sure to pass along your compliments to him. I would like to extend my gratitude for your recognition of Mr. Vu, our Supervisor. His ability to manage requests while maintaining a pleasant demeanor, especially in a busy breakfast, is commendable. However, I am truly sorry to hear about the issues you faced with your initial room, including the damp smell and the absence of a bath, which should have been clearly communicated in advance. We take your feedback seriously and will address these concerns with our team to enhance our service and communication moving forward. Regarding the concerns with the Rooftop bar's atmosphere and the dress code policies at Signature Lounge, I appreciate your input and will share it with our management team to explore ways we can improve guest experiences in these areas. I also apologize for the inconvenience regarding the extra bed charge and the late checkout policy for Expedia Gold members. Your comments will be reviewed to ensure our practices align better with guest expectations. We genuinely appreciate your feedback, as it helps us identify areas for improvement. While it is disappointing to hear that this was not the experience you were hoping for, we hope you might consider giving us another chance in the future. Thank you once again for your feedback. I hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide the exceptional experience you deserve. From the Heart of Saigon, Sincerely, Le Khanh Tam Marketing & Communications Manager

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and had a mixed experience.

Starting with the positives, the hotel is centrally located, making it convenient for exploring the city. The staff were pleasant and attentive. When we reported an issue, they fixed it right away. They even surprised my husband with a complimentary birthday cake, which was a lovely touch.

However, there were a few significant downsides. Our room faced the Opera House, and 2 nights, there were loud concerts on the central street that went on until midnight. The noise was so disruptive that we couldn’t sleep until the events ended. If you’re staying here, I highly recommend requesting a room with windows facing away from the Opera House.

The second and most unpleasant issue was the smell in our room. It was very strong and seemed to get worse when the air conditioning was on. The smell was so bad that we had to turn off the aircon entirely, but without it, the room became stuffy as the windows couldn’t be opened. It felt like the carpets may have been wet at some point and hadn’t dried properly.

While the service and location were excellent, the room’s odor was so bad that I cannot recommend this hotel

We were excited to stay in this historically important property. We expected 5 star heritage charm… we got 4 star transactional indifference. Generally we found the property tired and dated. The positives… we had an Opera Room, standard sized, well appointed room with an excellent bathroom/ dressing area layout. The mattress was covered in toppers and duvets to try and hide the aging mattress… but it was comfy for the most part. The breakfasts buffet is a bun fight with poor service, tired furniture and decor and very average food. Staff seem disinterested and getting their attention to place a coffee order takes some persistence. The lobby lounge is ok, and the drinks and food we had there were probably the best available in the hotel. The fine dining Reflections restaurant sets high expectations and is beautifully set at night… the food is average and the service confused. It’s stupidly expensive for what is on offer. Spa treatments were solid, but the reception process and being shown to a treatment room is an odd disjoined process, not relaxing or welcoming at all. We did not use the pool area… pretty dowdy and not at all appealing. We found the staff generally disinterested and not helpful. Our check in experiences was especially challenging and when we asked to speak with the general manager we were dismissed and ignored. The concierge team were a highlight, happy, engaging and gave good advice and support. We ended up having to complaint to the General Manager over our experiences… I won’t bore you with them here, suffice to say he provided a gracious apology, but the service upgrades offered we declined at they would have required us to move rooms at 8pm at night having already been unpacked for 4 nights. We did appreciate the offer of a packed breakfast as we had to check out at 5am for a flight… what we did not appreciate was the cup of hot tea that spilled all over us in the car as the lid had not been put on properly. We’ll never return and strongly suggests you stay elsewhere. We had dinner at the Park Hyatt across the road on our last night, what a difference, gracious, welcoming and charming, just what we had hoped to find at the Caravelle. Avoid!

We stayed at this hotel as part of a tour group but would stay again if we ever came back to Ho Chi Minh City. Staff were always very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and what was good was that the bathroom - separate shower and toilet - could be screened off. We had views down to the lovely looking pool. The buffet breakfast had a nice selection with something for everyone. Recommended.

As a whole, the hotel was very good -- not excellent though. The location is the best, very close proximity to cafes, restaurants, etc. The breakfast was disappointing. It was very small compared to some of the hotel breakfasts that I have had in Bangkok, many of the fruit items had no tongs so you were kind of afraid to pick the oranges by hand. The breakfast was varied but could have been better. Another deficiency is the lack of detail in the housekeeping department. One of the bottles of conditioner ran out of conditioner. When I finished my shower I even opened unscrewed the bottle to draw attention to the housekeeper (this bottle is empty please fill). When I returned to the room that after housekeeping had arrived, the bottle which I had opened REMAINED OPENED and EMPTY! Unbelievable. This is the first time in Asia I have seen this lack of detail. Finally, the pool looked small and old. For what the hotel charges on a per night basis, there are certainly other hotels (Le Meridien, etc.) which I can recommend but again the location for this hotel is its sole positive quality.

We have now stayed 4 times at this wonderful hotel, which is in a great location in Saigon.

The Signature rooms, irrespective of the type, have a great bathroom layout with plenty of room to store your toiletries, all within easy reach.
The beds are very comfortable and room decor so lovely.

Our stay each time was enhanced by access to the Signature Lounge.
All the staff here were very friendly and attentive.
Every morning and evening, they warmly greeted us.
Upon checkin, we were welcomed back like part of their family.

Sincere and heartfelt thanks to all the Signature Lounge staff.
Special mention to Uyen and Thu for their warm, friendly disposition and outstanding service.
They made our stay memorable.

The best days of this hotel are well and truly in the past. While the location is perfect for exploring the city on foot, there is an issue with mold in the building (which the team are trying to control by putting up air fresheners), but in some rooms the air has a very distinct moldy smell and even the bedsheets feel slightly damp.
We had booked an Executive Suite, but during our first night realized that there was an open-air, very noisy nightclub right across from the hotel, which made us feel like we were actually trying to sleep on the dancefloor. When notifying reception we were immediately moved to a suite facing the other direction and the problem was solved (thank you!!). In addition this room had much less of a moldy odour so it was a real improvement.
The breakfast restaurant was very crowded on the days we were there and the team could not manage to clear tables in time, keeping guests waiting to be seated. Very unusual for a five-star hotel is that we had to ask for literally everything instead of being automatically served - the service level in the restaurant was really bad. Staff walking past tables without clearing them, coffee orders only taken upon actively approaching a staff member and then taking 15 minutes to be delivered.
Overall, we would most certainly not return here.
